15 Can’t-Miss Events at Disney Parks This Year

If you’re toying with the idea of visiting Disneyland in Anaheim or Disney World in Orlando (or maybe you like to live large and are considering both), then you’ve got to know about some important, big-deal things happening at these most magical places on Earth. From wining and dining to the opening of a brand new land, we’ve got a breakdown of the most epic things happening in Disney Parks for 2017.

Disneyland

1. Main Street Electrical Parade: After years away from its birthplace, the nostalgic and heartwarming nighttime extravaganza is back at Disneyland. Returning from a stint at Walt Disney World, the 45-year-old Main Street Electrical Parade still shines just as bright as ever. There have been a few enhancements, changes and additions throughout the years, but the charm is still way intact in the “spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination.” Bonus: The “electro-synthe-magnetic musical sounds” are oh-so-catchy and wonderfully retro. (Photo via Sunny Chanel)

2. Disneyland Railroad Reopening: If you’re a fan of catching a ride on Disneyland’s iconic railway, you’ll be thrilled to hear that the train will be rolling again soon. As for how soon, we don’t know for sure, but when talking to one of the railway staff, they let it slip that they’re aiming before summer starts. While there have been changes to the railroad to make way for Star Wars land (coming in 2019), the ride will gain some feet rather than lose any. There’s also the addition of a bridge, which the train will cross, as well as a new grade that the conductors and engineers are excited about tackling. (Photo via Sunny Chanel)

3. California Food and Wine Festival: While Disneyland is dry, the California Adventure experience can be sprinkled with drinky-drinks. In celebration of vino and the yummy foods that go with it, chefs and foodies will gather from March 10 through April 16 at California Adventure for the delicious event. They’ll be plussing up the fest with extra events such as Sweet Sundays (dessert-making with celeb chefs like Duff Goldman), Winemaker Dinners (a four-course meal paired with wines; there’s even one that highlights Disney family wineries) and Brewmaster Beer Dinners (a prix fixe dinner paired with California beers).

4. Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout: The Hollywood Hotel (AKA the Tower of Terror) ceased taking guests at the start of the year to prepare for the transition from the world of the Twilight Zone to the first Marvel-centric ride to hit the Disneyland Resort. And this transition from spooky to superhero will be a quick one. Although there’s no specific date, the ride is set to open in the summer, which is great timing since the Guardians of the GalaxyVol. 2 opens in May. (Photo via Disney Parks)

5. Rivers of America Reopens: There hasn’t been much happening in the Rivers of America during the past year except for construction and the occasional duck basking in its murky waters. But soon (rumored to be this summer), the Rivers of America will be back in business with access to the now smaller Tom Sawyer Island, Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes and rides on the Sailing Ship Columbia and the Mark Twain Riverboat. The nighttime extravaganza Fantasmic! will also be returning (as will the crowds, so be prepared).

6. Grand Californian Hotel & Spa Facelift: The upscale lodge style hotel is undergoing a huge update. The popular hotel is having their rooms redone with new carpets, fixtures and furniture, and the pool is getting a makeover too. (Photo via Sunny Chanel)

7. Splitsville Opens: In late 2017, there will be a new option in Downtown Disney for fun and food. Splitsville Luxury Lanes, a mid-century themed bowling alley and eatery, is taking the place of what was the House of Blues with 625 restaurant seats, two bars and 20 lanes.

Disney World

8. Full Day Star Wars Tour: If the Force is totally your jam, then you’ll probably be tempted by the exclusive seven hour Star Wars tour at Walt Disney World. Yes, SEVEN HOURS. You’ll get the chance to experience all the Star Wars magic that Disney World has to offer, including perks like a dessert party. (Photo via Disney Parks)

9. Disney After Hours: For those of you who are night owls and/or want to do the Magic Kingdom when there are fewer people, then you’ll wanna look into the Disney After Hours (scheduled for February 9 and 16, and March 2 and 9). After the park closes, you’ll get the chance to play for three hours; that’s three whole hours of shorter lines and fewer crowds. SWEET.

10. More Openings at Disney Springs: Disney Springs is becoming quite the destination, independent of the theme parks. This year will see several big additions: The Planet Hollywood Observatory (with star gazing), Paddlefish (which is on a steamboat), The Polite Pig (the sister restaurant to The Ravenous Pig), The Edison (think = “Industrial Gothic”) and Wine Bar George (wine, food and more wine). (Photo via Disney Parks)

11. Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival: Floral beauty takes over Epcot during their absolutely gorgeous Flower & Garden Festival. The array of whimsical and wonderful works of horticulture will run from March 1 until May 29. Highlights this year include brand-new topiaries of Belle and Figment and two additional outdoor kitchens (bringing the total to 15) with yummy snacks.

12. Pandora Opens: It doesn’t matter that Avatar has nothing to do with the Walt Disney Company; the Imagineers have taken to the tale with their usual gusto and attention to detail. On May 27, Pandora: The World of Avatar, the world created in James Cameron’s 2009 blockbuster, opens at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. There will be the AVATAR Flight of Passage, Na’vi River Journey, Satu’li Canteen restaurant, Pongu Pongu drink location and Windtraders merchandise shop. (Photo via Disney Parks)

13. Epcot International Food & Wine Festival: Disney World’s Food and Wine Festival is serious business, and this year, it’s returning for a record 75 days. From August 31 to November 13, visitors will be able to wine and dine all around the world by visiting 30 unique food stalls — imagine going to cheese seminars, getting schooled on wine, beer and booze and watching chefs demo culinary delights.

Both Disneyland and Disney World

14. Halloweentime: If you haven’t done the Halloween season at Disneyland or Disney World, you’ve gotta change that. Not only do they introduce all sorts of special, yummy foods and tempting merch, but they hold an epic Halloween party on various dates leading up to the big day. Be warned: The parties sell out quickly, so buy your tickets early.

15. Holiday Season: The holidays are filled with SO MUCH magic at Disneyland and Disney World. If you need help getting into the spirit of the season, visiting one of the parks during the extra magical time will do the trick. There’s so much to see and do, and we’ve got 10 things that aren’t to be missed right here.

Despite his (very) questionable communication tactics, the world was immediately enraptured with Jeremy Allen White's Carmy when The Bear premiered on FX in 2022. And thanks to the show, and its various Emmy Awards, Carmy and his blue apron are instantly recognizable, as is Jeremy Allen White's next role: Bruce Springsteen.

The biopic joins a lineup of other highly anticipated movies like Timothée Chalamet's A Complete Unknown, about Bob Dylan, Selena Gomez's upcoming Linda Ronstadt biopic, and Paul Mescal's rumored role in the Beatles movies. And in addition to White's excitement for Deliver Me From Nowhere, the movie also has The Boss' stamp of approval! Here's everything we know about the upcoming movie.

What has Bruce Springsteen said about the movie?

It could be a very strange experience to have your life turned into a movie, but Bruce Springsteen seems to be having a great time. “It’s a lovely cast and I am involved a little,” he said on the Graham Norton Show (via People).

He also doesn't shy away from the fact that Jeremy Allen White's performance won't be exactly the same because "you can’t do an imitation, you have to do a personal interpretation."

“It’s difficult but he is a great actor and sings pretty good," he continues.

Will there be a Bruce Springsteen biopic?

Columbia/Sony Music Publishing

Deliver Me From Nowhere Plot

Yes, a Bruce Springsteen movie is on its way! Deliver Me From Nowhere will follow Warren Zanes' book of the same name, which chronicles the process of creating Bruce's 1982 album Nebraska. The movie comes from 20th Century Studios, who's behind other smash hits like Avatar: The Way of Water, The French Dispatch, and Alien: Romulus.

“Bruce Springsteen, and Nebraska, in particular, have had a profound impact on me and my work. Through themes of despair, disillusionment, and the struggles of everyday Americans, Bruce has formed an unparalleled legacy, painting an unflinching portrait of the human condition,” director Scott Cooper said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). “Yet, amidst the darkness, a sense of resilience and a sense of hope shines through, reflecting an indomitable spirit. That’s the Bruce I’ve come to know and love and will honor with this film.”

When does the Bruce Springsteen movie come out?

Deliver Me From Nowhere Release Date

We don't have an official release date for the move yet, but they start shooting in November!

Who will play Bruce Springsteen in the movie?

Deliver Me From Nowhere Cast

Jeremy Allen White stars as rock icon Bruce Springsteen. “I’ve got a really beautiful team of people helping me and Bruce has been really lovely and supportive and available, which has made this whole process an extra joy," Jeremy Allen White told Deadline in September 2024. "His support and Jon Landau, his management's, support, who has a large role in the film as well. So I feel really lucky.”

He also told Variety in June that he's “gonna try [his] best" to do his own singing in the movie.

Jeremy is joined by Odessa Young, who's playing one of Bruce Springsteen's love interests. Since she nabbed a spot in the film, she's been “weeping multiple times a day, but tells Variety she hasn't met the rockstar yet. “I really think that it will send me down a path for which there is no return,” she says. “Like I cannot come back from that experience as the same person.”

I live in the intersection of loving Halloween and fashion, so this month is my time to shine. Bu with so many fashion icons to dress up as, it's always a bit of a struggle to pick out a costume! Between my undying love for Sex and the City, all the stunning Bridgertonseason 3 looks, and the endless appeal of The Devil Wears Prada, I'm at a serious fashion crossroads. In order to help me narrow down my dilemna, I thought I'd share my top 20 costume contenders with you.

If you're looking for a show-stopping, Anna Wintour-approved Halloween costume, then look no further!!

Carrie Bradshaw

HBO

I have to start with my #1 icon of all time: Carrie Bradshaw. This costume is unbelievably easy, because you just have to take risks, which is what Carrie always does. She's not afraid to show off her body, mix some patterns, or wear loud, bold colors. Just make sure to wear some heels and run leisurely across the street — New York style.

How To Dress Like

13 Going On Thirty

Columbia Pictures

The early 2000's are back and better than ever, so obviously we have to address the 13 Going On 30 of it all. There's no one that does early 2000s like Jenna. Simply grab your best Y2K outfit, and especially make sure to do this costume if you hit the big 3-0 this year! I can't think of a more opportunity to dress up and dance the night away!

How To Dress Like Jenna:

Blair Waldorf

Warner Bros. Entertainment

One of my favorite TV show fashion icons of all time has to be none other than Blair Waldorf. She's an icon, she's everything, and she's the perfect person to dress up as this Halloween. I honestly don't know how someone makes a uniform look that chic, but I'm sure gonna try!

How To Dress Like Blair Waldorf:

Margot Tenenbaum

Touchstone Pictures

This is probably the easiest and hardest costume all at once, which is partly why I love it. The costume is relatively simple: fur coat and Hermes bag. But that's also a $20,000 outfit so it's not as easy to recreate as you may think. I'm thinking of opting for a fur coat from the thrift store, and just a brown, oversized or slouchy bag to achieve the same look. Because Margot is such an icon, and this look is simply too good.

How To Dress Like Margot Tenenbaum:

Bridgerton

Netflix

This show was all anyone could talk about this year, so I have a feeling many people will dress up as Bridgertoncharacters this year — and I don't blame them! The outfits are ideal for any fashion girlies who are just dying to show up and show out. Grab a cottagecore gown, and get ready to dance the waltz all night. I know I'll be on the lookout for some matching gloves to rally complete the look. Now, if only I could get my husband to dress up as Colin...

How To Dress Like Bridgerton:

Grace Kelly

Paramount PIctures

My #1 style icon? Well, thank you for asking! I truly have style icons for just about every decade, but my #1 overall will always be Grace Kelly. She was beauty, she was grace (probably why she was named that), she was a literal princes... Plus, her style was classy and unbeatable! You could wear just about any classy, 50s-inspired look with a blonde wig, and people would know exactly who you are. But for me, I'm trying to find a dress similar to this her undeniably chic look in To Catch A Thief!

How To Dress Like Grace Kelly:

Emily In Paris

Netflix

This costume is a top contender for me, because (hot take alert) I actually love Emily's style in the show! It's loud, unique, and giving Carrie Bradshaw a run for her money. For this costume, it's very similar to Carrie Bradshaw's. Go for loud, statement pieces and make sure to accessorize, accessorize, accessorize. Better yet: make your bestie dress up as Ashley Park and go together! And make sure to keep your phone on hand — just like Emily Cooper would.

How To Dress Like Emily:

Vivian in Pretty Woman

Touchstone Pictures

I see people dress like Vivian from Pretty Woman every year, but it's always the outfit she has on at the beginning of the movie! People totally miss out on the fact that Vivian is a complete style icon in this film, though. From her casual daytime looks and her gorgeous wild curls to this breathtaking red gown with gloves, Vivian pulls out look after look.

How To Dress Like Vivian:

Miranda Priestly in Devil Wears Prada

20th Century Fox Pictures

Anne Hathaway this, Emily Blunt that. No — I want to see more people going as our queen, Meryl Streep, playing the ever-iconic Miranda Priestly. She's better dressed, her lines are everything, and it gives you an excuse to judge everyone around you. (Only kidding!)

How To Dress Like Miranda:

Eve in Life Size

Disney

This movie is so good, and I honestly don't see people dress up as this often! It's no question that Eve was (and is) an icon with all the best Y2K looks. Keke Palmer actually recreated this exact look for Halloween 2023, and it was everything! I definitely think this is a fabulous costume to pull out for this year — you'll be an absolute doll!

Norman Mailer, I'm pregnant! This might be a memorable line from an equally memorable Gilmore Girls episode, but it's now also a reality for one of the show's stars because Milo Ventimiglia is expecting his first child! The actor married model and entrepreneur Jarah Mariano in the fall of 2023 at a tiny, private ceremony (a move that was very Jess Mariano of him), and on September 29, Jarah announced she's pregnant!

Milo Ventimiglia and Jarah Mariano just showed up at Brian Bowen Smith's ‘Joyride’ exhibit at Studio CT in California, and one source tells People Milo was “sweet and attentive to his wife throughout the whole event.” Duh!!

He “seemed very proud to be with her" while Jarah looked "radiant and glowing," as she always does. “Milo was kissing her and whispering into her ear," the source continues. "They were just genuinely lovely together.”

Is Jarah Mariano pregnant?

Jarah Mariano/Instagram

Yes, Jarah Mariano announced her pregnancy with an Instagram post featuring a surf session with Milo Ventimiglia. In the photos, Jarah is sitting on a surfboard wearing a brown bikini top, polka dot bikini bottoms, and a pink lei. "Baby on board!" she says in the caption.

After his time on Gilmore Girls, Milo played patriarch Jack Pearson on NBC's This Is Us, and told US Weekly in 2017 that "I think I’m built to want a strong family unit. “It will happen when it happens. I’m not out seeking it. It’s just kind of, I’m present in the space in my life that when it presents itself and it’s right, I’m sure it will work out.”

And it looks like it worked out at the exact right time.

Does Milo Ventimiglia have a wife?

Yes, Milo Ventimiglia & wife Jarah Mariano got married in the fall of 2023, and Jarah recently posted some new photos from the special day. "Last year I married my best friend," she says. "There aren’t enough words that exist to describe all the special qualities that make him who he is. AlI can say is that I am grateful for the life that we have together and the happiness that we have created🤍 Aloha wau iā 'oe my husband Milo."

"Things are good," Milo told Extra in February 2024. "We've had relationships that have come and have gone and then you get to a point where you kind of meet your match and meet someone that inspires you in a way different than anybody else...I'm grateful for her and I’m happy to have arrived in this moment, so married life is nice."

We're always ready to go back to Hogwarts, whether we're making a Harry Potter cocktail for our September 1st celebration or hosting a movie night in our coziest PJs. And thanks to HBO, we'll be able to visit for the first time all over again. On April 12, 2023 Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed that an original Harry Potter series was coming to their Max streaming service.

The series will be released over the course of ten years (!!) and WBD promises that it'll feature a book authenticity and attention to detail that even the most knowledgable Potterhead will appreciate. Grab your Harry Potter house scarf and your pumpkin juice, and keep reading for everything you need to know about the new Harry Potter TV show!

Will there be a Harry Potter TV show?

Warner Bros.

Yes, we're getting a new Harry Potter TV show! The official video announcement features the Hogwarts candles we see in the first film coming together to create that classic golden, lit-from-within logo. It's totally magical and nostalgic, but has a new contemporary edge I can't wait to see in its full form.

Will the Harry Potter TV show follow the books?

Amazon

Yes, book fans will be happy to know the new series will definitely follow the plot of the books. And Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, finally gave us a tease during MIPCOM‘s C-Suite Conversations. "It’s an unbelievable dream, honestly, and as somebody who is a huge fan of books, the opportunity to get to explore them in maybe a little bit more in-depth than you can in just a two-hour film," she said (via THR). "That’s the whole reason we’re on this journey.”

Has HBO begun casting for the new Harry Potter series?

Warner Bros.

Dungey also revealed they've started looking for a new golden trio. “There’s not a lot to talk about at this moment," she says. "We’ve got our fantastic writing staff in place and they are doing what they need to do. And casting calls have opened up in the U.K. and Ireland, so the process is moving along. It’s going quite well.”

What else do I need to know?

Warner Bros./IMDb

“We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” Casey Bloys, HBO & Max Content's Chairman and CEO, said in the press release. “Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World.”

The series comes from Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, with J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts serving as executive producers. Over the last few years, Rowling has made headlines for her conservative views and commentary on transgender identities, but at the time, Bloys didn't comment when asked whether her involvement could affect their ability to move forward.

On June 26, 2024 it was announced that Francesca Gardiner would write and serve as showrunner and Mark Mylod would executive produce and direct several episodes. Both worked on Succession.

"I'm truly thrilled to announce our director and writer, both of whom I interviewed as part of the production team," J.K. Rowling tweeted. "Both have a genuine passion for #HarryPotter, and having read Francesca's pilot script and heard Mark's vision, I'm certain the TV show will more than live up to expectations."

When is the HBO Harry Potter TV show release date?

Max/HBO/Warner Bros.

The new Harry Potter series is expected to hit Max in 2026, according to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav (via Deadline). That means we could start seeing cast lists and getting more specific plot details in 2025!

Who plays Harry Potter in the new series?

Warner Bros.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Daniel Radcliffe makes it clear that even though he's very excited about the new show, he probably won't be included in the new cast of Harry Potter.

“I’m sure whoever is making [the series] will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere,” he says. “So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”

There's no word on whether any of the original cast will actually be returning, but after we cried while watching the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, we can only hope that Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Bonnie Wright, and Tom Felton will at least make cameo appearances. I'd love to see Daniel Radcliffe in the Ministry of Magic, or see Tom Felton walking around Diagon Alley. (However, I'm really hoping they're cast as some of the professors. Just imagine Emma as Professor McGonagall!)
