21 Colorful DIY Rugs for Every Room in Your Home

Pick a room, any room that you’ve been itching to zhush up. You name it, we’ve got a DIYrug for it. Whether it’s your patio, entryway, study, living room, dining room, breakfast nook, playroom, bedroom or closet, you’ll be floored by all the options. And the best part about ’em? They’re so easy, you’ll be able to tackle one (or two or three) of these DIYs this weekend!

1. Aztec Dropcloth Rug: The intricate detail of this stunning painted dropcloth rug will knock the socks off of anyone who sets foot in your home. (via Nellie Bellie)

2. Pom Pom 3-in-one: We can’t wait to sink our toes (and fingers) into the delicious texture of these yarn pom poms. You’ll want to set aside the entire weekend for this one, but you’ll get a rug, wall hanging and coffee table runner when you’re done. (via Brit + Co)

3. On the Plus Side: We’re getting positive vibes just looking at this crocheted masterpiece. If you’re a whiz with a crochet hook, this project is your jam. Work on it solo or recruit friends and family to help patch up this popping carpet. (via Re Rag Rug)

4. Wooden Floor Mat: This porch-perfect doormat greets guests with a welcoming rainbow of colors and is bright enough to shake away any rainy day blues. We think this would make a perfect place to leave our Wellies. (via Lowe’s)

5. Warm Welcome: We’ve got projects to make our walls and pillows talk, and we can’t wait to bring a welcome mat to life. This project is easy on the eyes and your wallet. Grab a $2 rug, spray paint, adhesive letters, masking tape and a ruler to keep everything in line and personalize with a pattern and message that will make your guests feel right at home. (via Sincerely, Kinsey)

6. Mosaic Tile Doormat: Isn’t this tile number just smashing? Release some stress by breaking a few ceramic tiles (or dinner plates) to piece together a quirky welcome mat. (via Something Annie Made)

7. Watermelon Welcome: This summer, we were erb-sessed with wearing and decorating with fruit print, and we’re excited to spill the juicy details on how simple this doormat is to make. Start by cutting up a sponge in a wedge shape, then stamp to your heart’s content to deck out a basic straw mat. You could also make a lemon and lime version using the same pattern. (via Dream Green DIY)

8. Shocking Statement: This neon doormat pays a compliment that’s cheeky enough to make your neighbor or mailman blush. ;) (Do you dare?) (via Hey Wanderer)

9. Zelda Welcome Mat: Guests will have to sword their way through your shrubbery to arrive at the golden sight of the Triforce. This super-force magical golden triangle pattern is an easy way to level-up your typical doormat. (via Our Nerd Home)

10. Twisted Rope Rug: C’mon, baby. Let’s cut a rug and twist and shout! Coils of straw rope wrapped together with neon ribbon would be a perfect addition to a foyer or entryway. (via Brit + Co)

11. Latch Hook Rug: This plush, fall-festive rug will probably take a couple of weekends to complete, but if you start now you can have one ready by Halloween! We’re thinking Netflix + cozy fire will be the perfect setting to make this rug. (via A Beautiful Mess)

12. DIY Beni Ouarain Moroccan Rug: Can you believe that this designer DIY is a three step Sharpie hack? (We were delightfully surprised, too!) Take a basic Adum IKEA rug ($99), tape down a simple pattern with masking tape, trace with a felt tip marker and save those Benjamins for another splurge. (via 29 Rue House)

13. Painted Chevron Rug: Amp up a plain woven rug with painter’s tape and a can of paint. This sharp chevron elevates a basic stripe in this coastal chic room. (via Cape 27)

14. West Elm Knockoff: For $100, you can achieve the handcrafted look of this sisal rug hack with a little paint and elbow grease at an eighth of its retail cost. Yes, please! (via Vintage Revivals)

15. Woven Finger Hula Hoop Rug: You’ll want to get your little rug rats to help you with this DIY. Grab a hula hoop (or two) and an old t-shirt to create spokes as the base for this rug. With a ball of finger-kitting, loop around each spoke to create a radial pattern. We think it’d be a perfect touch to your kid’s bedroom or playroom. (via Flax and Twine)

16. Chindi-licous Rug: When faced with the design challenge of finding a rug that would complement her 3D tumbling wall (but can we pause to admire its amazingness for a second?), Mandi was left with no choice but to stitch together six World Market rugs ($20), hamburger style for one giant area rug. And we are LOVING the end result. (via Vintage Revivals)

17. Distressed Stamp Rug: Use an iron plant stand dipped in paint and stamp your way to a chic, distressed Moroccan-style rug. This transformation only costs $15! (via My Hands Made It)

18. Dip-dyed Rug: Inspired by a trip to Morocco, Erica of P.S. I Made This wanted to recreate the colorful, ornate rugs that she didn’t have enough space for in her luggage. Take your space to a whole new world by using jewel-toned dye on a beige persian rug. (via Domaine Home)

19. Polka Dot Rug: When we spottedthis closet, we knew we had to add this project to our to-DIY list! Use a dinner plate as a template for your dots and spray paint to fill them in. Or use red, blue, yellow and green paint to make a perma-Twister area rug for game night! (via A Beautiful Mess)

20. Paperclip Rug: What’s more genius than using office supplies to spruce up your workspace? (No shame in admitting you’ve stapled a loose pant hem to make it through the day.) Use a paperclip to weave two smaller rugs together for double the impact. (via Vintage Revivals)

21. Anthro-Inspired Stitch Rug: Before you drop megabucks on that bathmat you’ve been coveting, take a plain rug and stitch your own desert-inspired design to add some Southwestern flair to your bathroom. (via Sincerely, Kinsey)

A Fresh paint color can be the dramatic upgrade you need to fall in love with your kitchen again. Four years ago, I painted my kitchen cabinets with Benjamin Moore's Adriatic Sea, and while I still like the color I'm ready to go more earthy in my aesthetic. "The biggest trend we’re seeing for kitchens and kitchen cabinets is homeowners looking to add more color and turn away from all-white kitchens and gray kitchens/kitchen cabinets," says Sue Wadden, Sherwin-Williams Director of Color Marketing.

Thinking beyond white these days, many designers are finding unique ways to pair color with stone and natural woods. "Lately, I’ve been captivated by the power of contrasting materials and colors to transform this essential room," says Amr Samaha, founder of LA-based Samaha Studio. "In our latest project, we’ve paired the timeless elegance of French white oak cabinets with a striking maroon paint." Here's a peek at Amr's design and several other designer picks for the best kitchen cabinet colors this year.

Samaha Studio

Amr's bold choice of a maroon hue adds warmth and depth, creating a kitchen that is both sophisticated and inviting. Try Farrow & Ball Preference Red No.297, Benjamin Moore Classic Burgundy, or Clare Paint Vintage to get the look. Always test a sample to make sure the color suits your specific lighting situation.

"The maroon hue does more than complement the natural wood — it elevates the entire space, turning it into a focal point that’s as visually stunning as it is functional. By embracing contrast, we’ve crafted a kitchen that not only looks beautiful but also feels like home," he says.

Sherwin Williams

"I love Sherwin Williams Dark Knight," Lauren Reyes says, principal designer + owner LA-based LVR Studios. "We’ve used this for my own kitchen’s cabinetry – it’s not a typical navy blue like we’re used to seeing as it has rich hues of dark blues and greens."

Farrow & Ball

Another favorite is Farrow & Ball’s Joa White, a light and clean taupe. "It's a nice way to achieve a “white” kitchen, but a lot warmer and very sophisticated feeling," Lauren says.

Sherwin Williams

Sue recommends Sherwin Williams'Thunderous SW 6201 for an earthy nature-inspired look. I think this is my pick too! "Dark yet calming, it is ideal for this space since it complements natural elements like wood and metal very well," she says.

Sherwin Williams

Sue is also a fan of the wine-colored trend. She recommends Carnelian SW 7580. "To add some drama and mystery into a kitchen, this deep saturated violet with warm red undertones is a beautiful choice. Although it might seem like a bolder choice, it’s easy to pair with clean neutrals, thanks to its muted tone."

Farrow & Ball

Amanda Leigh at House of Rolison seconds the redder tones for a warm and stimulating color. Her favorite? Benjamin Moore Nicholson Red. "We love coordinating a cabinet color to the vein of the slab we choose. It helps marry the materials we use without being too coordinated," she says.

Amanda's other favorite is also in the greige family, Farrow and Ball's Drop Cloth.

Whearley & Co

If you want to lean more green in your greige, Whearley & Co.'s Cooking Apple Green is a lovely neutral with a bit more tint.

Sherwin Williams

Sue adds to her fave list Sherwin Williams Color of the Year for 2024: Upward SW 6239. "This light and breezy blue that creates a beautiful coastal chic vibe to an all-white kitchen. Homeowners can take this aesthetic one step further by adding wooden accents to the space."

Theresa Butler Interiors, Marc Mauldin

Theresa Butler, principal and founder of Theresa Butler Interiors in Atlanta recently refreshed a 15-year-old kitchen with its original cabinets using Benjamin Moore Advance Paint in Marine Blue (on island) and London Fog (in cabinets).

Theresa Butler Interiors, Marc Mauldin

Theresa also used Benjamin Moore White Dove to refresh this traditional kitchen.

Benjamin Moore

Theresa also recommends Benjamin Moore Stratton Blue (a muted blue-green shown above), a soothing Ocean Air, and Peale Green, an earthy forest green, for kitchen cabinets. Love the idea of forest green too!

Lowe's

Something in the Ocean Air family is the Tranquil Waters Tintable Cabinet Paint from Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines.

As much as I've written about Reese Witherspoon's book club, you'd think I was on a first name basis with her (wishful thinking)! But, the truth is that it's the reason I rediscovered reading for fun. As informational as books can be, there's also joy, anguish, fear — and even spicy romance — to lose ourselves in. I'm become a firm believer in holding on to things that bring us joy so if your book stash is overflowing, you're going to love Reese's January pick for 2025.

You see, 'Cate Kay' and her bestie Amanda made plans to live lavish lives in California. They were so sure everything would work out until something awful happens that forces 'Cate Kay' to leave her real identity behind.

It's not until something forces her to make peace with where she comes from that 'Cate Kay' decides it's time to stop running from who she is.

Here's What Reese Witherspoon Had To Say About The Three Lives of Cate Kay

Reese Witherspoon never shies away from telling her adoring fans why she chose a book and this month is no different. Prior to becoming a mom, I never drank coffee on a daily basis. I didn't get the hype surrounding it because eating a hearty breakfast used to give me all the energy I needed to tackle my day. If you listen closely, you can hear my mom-coded chuckle.

Though I used my Keurig here and there...I fell into the daily Starbucks habit that I haven't quit been able to shake yet. The tasty drinks felt much easier to grab and go, instead of dropping in a pod and adding creamer, hoping for that barista-made flavor. However, I finally found something that makes me feel like I'm my own at-home barista: the Ninja Espresso Machine!

What is the Ninja Espresso Machine?

Amazon

This Ninja coffee maker is a 3-in-1 machine that allows you to make espresso, classic drip coffee, and cold brews! It goes the extra mile by letting you make the following of each:

  • Espresso — double shot or quad shot
  • Drip Coffee — classic, rich, or over ice
  • Cold Brew — cold pressed expresso or cold brew coffee

Depending on your mood, you can brew anywhere from 6 to 18 oz. drinks. It's like the grandmother of coffee makers IMO — she really can do it all, and then some!

What kind of features does it have?

Jasmine Williams

What features doesn't this Ninja coffee maker have is the better question. My favorite feature so far is the weight-based dosing that helps the machine determine what you'll need for the perfect cup of coffee. What does that mean? It has a built-in scale that does the heavy lifting for you, showing you the recommended setting you need by detecting the weight of the beans before grinding.

It also has a hands-free frothing option that rivals the skills of Starbucks' baristas with its Barista Assist Technology. The four frothing features are:

  • Steamed milk
  • Thin froth
  • Thick froth
  • Cold foam

I've tried the steamed milk and cold foam options so far, and they're AMAZING. I think that's the best part of making coffee now!

Is it hard to put the Nina Espresso Maker together?

Jasmine Williams

This is probably the heaviest coffee maker I've ever had, but it doesn't bother me. I bought my fiancé a Nutri Ninja Personal & Countertop Blender last year, so I'm familiar how sturdy their products are.

However, I want to mention how heavy it is so you're not surprised when you're taking it out of the box! It took two people to slide it out in my experience, so make sure you have someone to help you. If you don't care about keeping the box the Ninja Espresso Maker comes in, you can just cut it open to make it easier for you.

Putting this machine together is simpler than it looks, though. It comes with additional pieces like the assisted tamper, a funnel (to ensure you have the right amount of ground coffee), two baskets (to determine what type of coffee you want to make: quad shot espresso, classic, cold brew, or cold-pressed), and the portafilter (AKA the longer piece which serves as the main handle when you're grinding the beans and ready to brew your coffee). Thankfully, comes with the double basket installed already.

How much counter space does it take up?

Jasmine Williams

The Ninja Espresso Machine doesn't take up as much space as I thought it would — and that's great because I live in an apartment, so that real estate is very limited in my kitchen. I was able to place it on the smaller counter by stove and still have room to place my coffee essentials next to it. But if you want to create a coffee corner, I definitely suggest placing it on a longer surface.

Do I need to use pre-ground coffee or whole beans?

Jasmine Williams

This is a great question! I usually skip the instructions when putting something together (that rushed mom life, you know?), but decided to because I didn't want to mess anything up.

It's easy to reach for pre-ground coffee, but this machine specifically requires whole beans because of the grinder feature. If you're worried about added time from the grind, don't — it really doesn't take long for the beans to be ground!

Do I have to use whole milk for the frother, or can I use something plant-based?

Jasmine Williams

You can actually use both! The cool thing about the Nina Espresso Maker is you can change the settings to whole or plant-based milk when you want to use the frothing feature! I just prefer to stick with unsweetened almond milk because it doesn't irritate my digestive system and has 0 grams of sugar in it!

Final Thoughts:

Jasmine Williams

The Ninja Espresso Maker has converted me into a coffee drinker who doesn't have to leave her house for the latest Starbucks fall drinks — or at least not all the time. 😉 The included QR code on top of the machine helped me see step-by-step installation and brewing guides, so that's a welcomed bonus that continues to make regular use so much easier.

I will say that you have to test the hardness of your water and run a pre-cycle before using the machine. A water test strip is included in the box, and this process takes a couple of minutes to do. Once you're ready to run the pre-cycle, fill the water reservoir on the side is place a 10 or 12 oz. cup under the portafilter and press brew. When the cup is full after a few minutes, dump the water in the sink and you'll be ready to brew your first cup of espresso, classic brew, latte, or ice coffee!

Ultimately, while I don't care for drinking espresso, that feature works for my Domincan fiancé — it's perfect for getting him that shot of flavor and energy some he craves in the morning. Otherwise, for all other coffee-making endeavors, I give the Ninja Expresso Maker a 5 out of 5 rating! It really has something for all coffee lovers, and it takes than less than five minutes to have a cup of cold or warm deliciousness! BRB while I brew something for my Gilmore Girls rewatch...

After spending decades in the entertainment industry, some celebs like Pamela Anderson have opted for a makeup-free look. No one can forget when she stunned photographers right before Paris Fashion Week's Vivienne Westwood show last year by rocking a bare face. She told Vogue France, she wasn't thinking about not "wearing any makeup." However, she didn't want to "compete with the clothes" she was wearing. She felt "freedom" from not trying to "be the prettiest girl in the room" which speaks volumes to us!

Now, Pamela continues to embrace the no-makeup life — and not only does she look gorgeous, but she seems SO happy! The star shared recently how this lifestyle change impacts her day-to-day, and it's honestly incredibly relatable. Here's what she had to say!

Here's what Pamela Anderson just said about adopting a no-makeup life!

www.instagram.com

1. It saves her a lot of time.

Pamela Anderson stopped by the Live with Kelly and Markshow to talk about filming The Last Showgirl, her childhood, and how not wearing makeup has been beneficial for her. While her makeup-free clip from the episode isn't available on YouTube, PEOPLE reports hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos asking her how her decision has changed her life.

Ripa started with, "You don't travel with a glam squad. How liberating is that for you," while Consuelos followed with, "And how much time have you gotten back?"

The former Baywatch star said she's "saved a lot of time" and admitted that her sons "used to say that I spent half my life in a makeup chair."

2. She feels more focused in general.

Pamela Anderson also admitted things feel easier for her in general. "I feel like I could focus better when I did the film, too." And her life outside of that? She said she's "gotten out of wearing makeup and it's been fun."

It's interesting because Kelly Ripa shared she's been inspired by Pamela Anderson's makeup-free choice. She remembers not wearing makeup for a short while and said to herself, "'Pamela Anderson is a genius." Kelly even thought for a moment, "This is the way to live." We're so here for it!

www.instagram.com

3. She lives for a glam moment, but appreciates simplicity now.

Pamela's all for being makeup-free now, but she's not bashing glam moments. She actually "loved it" because "it's fun when you're new in the business and you get all this attention." She's just at a point where she's "done that" and wants to "simplify and keep it low key."

She really does "love being elegant, sophisticated" but has found what "works best" for her.

Do you hear wedding bells? Because after Tom Holland and Zendaya's engagement, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's engagement, and those Suki Waterhouse and Robert Pattinson marriage rumors, it appears Hollywood does. And after all those Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift engagement rumors, Travis just spilled on his ideal wedding timeline — that's right, it appears our favorite IRL rom-com couple could be thinking about tying the knot!

Here's what Travis Kelce had to say about his least favorite time of year to get married.

Travis Kelce wants to avoid THIS wedding season for one reason.

@britandco#greenscreen do you think any of these will come true?! #taylorswift#traviskelce#tayvis#travistaylor#thealchemy#prpredictions♬ the alchemy ts sped up - Swiftie_Jean-Alex 😁✨

On a new episode of the New Heights podcast he hosts with brother Jason, Travis Kelce revealed he would like to avoid an autumn wedding day. And the reason is literally so on brand it makes me laugh.

After a listener revealed over the phone that his girlfriend wants to schedule their wedding during football season, Travis admits that "I actually don't know people who've gotten married in the fall."

"My friends always do it in the summer," he says. "I've seen weddings everywhere but the fall. So, I'm not sure if the fall is a good wedding season."

The weather of an autumn wedding (not to mention the incredible aesthetic of the wedding photos!!) have always made it seem so dreamy. Plus, I've attended more than one summer wedding (some on the beach!) and it can get toasty under the summer sun. Spring then, Travis?

Travis' comments come after he responded to rumors that he'd pop the question to girlfriend Taylor Swift. During the June 1 Big Slick Celebrity Weekend's onstage comedy sketch, Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis asked Travis about a potential engagement. "Hey Travis, real talk, OK, just the guys here," Jason says. "When are you going to make an honest woman out of her?"

"Guys," Travis says, "you're really pushing it." It's a pretty kind way to say back off!! I'm excited for whenever Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce tell us they're engaged — should they choose to share at all.

Check out the latest news on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's relationship!
