Have you guys noticed that embroidery is totally having a moment right now? From embroidered jeans to embroidered jackets, there isn’t an article of clothing you can’t make better with a needle and thread. Now that swimsuit season is soon upon us, it’s time to bring the trend to your beachwear.
If this is your first embroidery project, fear not! Embroidering is really easy and fun. Depending on what you want to do, it can be a little time consuming, but that’s what audiobooks and podcasts are for! If you want more detailed instructions on how to embroider, take our Intro to Embroidery Class and pick up our Embroider a Wall Hanging Kit ($20) at Target Stores.
Materials and Tools:
- swimsuit in any style (ours is from Target)
- embroidery hoop
- embroidery thread
- needles
- scissors (PS: You can get all the embroidery materials from our Embroidery Kit at Target!)
Instructions:
1. Draw the design you want to embroider on your swimsuit with a pencil.
2. Place suit in embroidery hoop. Cut a piece of embroidery thread. Separate the strands and then group them together again before threading into the needle. Your stitches will look fuller and better this way.
3. Tie a knot at the end of your thread and start stitching!

To write three short cursive words, it took me about a week to finish. I would pick it up for a few hours here and there to work on it. I listened to the podcast S-Town (which is fantastic!!) while stitching. I highly recommend finding a good podcast or audiobook while doing this project. :)
Time for the beach!
You can’t hear, but I’m playing my favorite tape on this super snazzy boombox.
My two favorite things: pineapples and embroidered swimsuits.
Oh no, I see a shark!
Shark swam away :)
