Whether you’re a novice DIYer or an artisan maker, the holidays are the perfect time to let your creative talents shine. Because let’s get real: Gifts mean so much more when you’ve crafted them with your own two hands! We’ve partnered with NBC’s Making It, a new feel-good reality competition series where makers take on the challenge of a variety of handmade projects, to bring you a super easy DIY gift: pom-pom earrings! Of all the fun things you can make with yarn, pom-pom earrings may take the cake in cuteness. In a few simple steps you’ll transform yarn and beads into some major holiday flair. Warning, they are so adorable you may want to keep them for yourself.
To make these earrings IRL check out Santa’s Workshop, sponsored by NBC’s Making It, at the annual B+C Holiday House, a winter wonderland full of DIY, photo-worthy scenes, and rotating maker gift shops!
Materials and Tools
- earring hooks
- chains
- yarn
- pom-pom makers
- pliers
- assorted beads
- scissors
- glue gun
Instructions:
1. Make pom-poms.
2. Attach to chain and earring hooks.
3. Decorate with beads.
Wrap one side of the pom-pom maker. The fuller you wrap it, the more voluminous your poms will be!
Wrap the other side of pom-pom maker.
Close all arms of the maker.
Cut down center of both sides of maker.
Cut a new piece of yarn and tie a knot through the center of the maker.
Remove the pom-pom from the maker by opening all the arms. Trim your pom-pom into the perfect little fuzz ball. Keep your two long center strings to attach the pom-pom to the chain.
Using the pliers, cut two separate pieces of chain to about 2 inches.
Attach the chain to the long center pom-pom strings by tying a knot.
Using the pliers again, open the top piece of chain and attach the earring hooks.
Add beads to turn the poms into snowmen, or whatever your creative heart desires!
They look great with or without the extra beaded decor!
Go ahead and give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done, and don’t forget to make a pair for yourself!
