Fulfill Your Magical Dreams With This DIY Unicorn Costume

In addition to our repertoire of our classic looks, like a pretty spooky ghost and our classic witch, we’re adding the dreamiest of costumes — a unicorn! This particular costume is one that we all secretly want to be every day! Let me tell you, Caitlin (our Customer Experience Associate) was literally beside herself to become one for the afternoon. This look really comes down to the makeup and putting the right pieces together to tap into a pretty, sexy, sporty, playful, ethereal unicorn!

How to Build Your Unicorn Costume

Start off by doing a flawless face for your base makeup. Apply a heavier bright pink blush like

($30) to the apples of your cheeks, up toward your temples. Next, layer liquid highlighter like Japonesque Radiance Primer ($32), followed by a powder highlighter like Sephora Collection Microsmooth Baked Luminizer ($14) for that extra radiant skin. Hit your upper cheekbones, bridge of your nose, your temples, center of your lower forehead, above your cupid’s bow and on your brow bones.

How to Do Unicorn Makeup

Step 1: Unicorn Eyes: Use the same blush you used on your cheeks to sweep onto the inside corners of your eyes and into your crease. Line your eyes with a teal liner, shadow or cream, and use that same medium to fill in your eyelids. Caitlin is wearing the Ben Nye Color Cream in Cosmic Blue ($7).

Eyebrows: Next, use a white eyeliner to fill over your eyebrows and then go over them with the same teal medium you used for your eyes.

Step 2: Around Your Eyes: Apply water-like placed pigments in purple, pink and teal as if they were bleeding out your eyes and down onto your cheeks. We used Ben Nye Color Cream in Vivid Violet, Bright Pink + Cosmic Blue ($7). You can add lighter versions of these pigments in powder form over the creams to set them and give a little more dimension, if you’re feeling like advancing the look a little like we did. Lastly, sprinkle glitter to really tie it all together.

Finishing Touches: False Fluttering Lashes: When you go this big on your eye makeup, it’s a good idea to add those falsies! I’m obsessed with Kiss Premium Eyelashes ($9) — seriously FIVE sets for NINE DOLLARS!

Now get your glitter goggles on and just play! This costume is SO comfortable you can literally dance your heart out wearing it.

Caitlin loved this so much she decided it was best to continue her day as Unicorn.

Even my dreams came true today!

Remember to always goof around and play!

If you’ve ever turned on a TV around Halloween time, I’m sure you’ve seen the best witch movie of all time — Hocus Pocus. These quirky witches were brought back on earth for one night and spent the rest of the movie trying to win back their lives in the mortal world. Not only are they a hilarious bunch, but they also have some of the most colorful, iconic, and creative costumes ever. So naturally, we had to make them for ourselves!

In honor of Hocus Pocus 2 (which you can now stream on Disney+), help these sisters out by giving them the life they always wanted — grab your main betches witches and turn the Sanderson sisters into the most epic girl group costume.

Walt Disney Pictures/Buena Vista Pictures/Brit + Co

I teamed up with our former HMU stylist Misty Spinney to create these looks. A special thanks to Farah, Brenda, and Katie for bringing their A game to this shoot. They blew all of us away with their commitment to their characters — they may or may not have kept these outfits on all day to scare our other co-workers. FYI, if you and your besties aren’t a brunette, red head, and blonde, don’t worry. Head over to Amazon to pick up wigs for these looks.

“Oh look, another glorious morning. Makes me SICK!” — Winifred Sanderson

Brit + Co

(True fact: This film takes place in Salem, Massachusetts, and there is nothing more beautiful than a dewy fall morning in New England.)

As a sister of three, I can relate to these witches. Each of us is different but we all have the same goal — to stay alive by sucking the lives out of the children of Salem. I mean, JK — that is just the goal of the Sanderson sisters, not the Bryden girl gang. ;)

Winifred "Hocus Pocus" Costume

Brit + Co

The main difference between these three characters is the color scheme of the outfits. Bette Midler’s character wears deep shades of green and purple and a lot of intricate textures. Head to your local thrift store and find about 3-5 skirts to cut at different lengths and layer around your waist. Or follow Blake Lively's advice and grab some trim, lace, and overlay to add detail and texture!

Top the costume off with a lace-up corset and a structured green jacket.

Brit + Co

To get her wild hair, you can curl your hair randomly and then back-comb throughout. Separate into pigtail-esque high messy buns and secure with elastics and bobby pins. For her makeup, do a highly exaggerated smokey eye and brush pink blush on the apples of your cheeks. To recreate this tooth-pucker, start off by using concealer to cancel out your lips. Then create the heart shaped lip pucker with red lipstick. To make her teeth, use a white cream makeup and a fine paint brush to paint on the teeth and set with a translucent powder.

Sarah "Hocus Pocus" Costume

Brit + Co

Sarah Jessica Parker’s character is a bit salacious, but we love her anyways. Her costume is mainly pinks and a bit more girly. Let’s just say, to really get into this character, you will want to pull your corset extra tight and really lift up those ta-tas.

Brit + Co

Go with a heavily lined smokey eye, rusty red lips and lots of pale foundation to channel SJP’s character!

Mary "Hocus Pocus" Costume

Brit + Co

Kathy Najimy’s character Mary is the sister that is always forgotten. So forgotten that she didn’t even get a broom and was stuck with a vacuum. For this costume, stick to deeper fall colors and a billowy orange top. Top this costume off with the most forgotten-about witch cape you can find. ;)

Brit + Co

This hair style looks more challenging than it actually is. Start off by prepping the hair by backcombing every strand for a nest-like mess. Then take your hair and pull it into a high “loose” ponytail. Next add small elastics every couple inches or so to the remaining hair in the ponytail so you can make it stick up. Pull out a few strands and re-pin them into the mix to hide the ponytail elastics.

Brit + Co

“I put a spell on you, and now you’re mine.”

Swimwear trends come and go, but there are some from the past that truly live in our minds rent-free. There are several styles that we’re honestly glad to see gone from the beach, whether it’s due to unflattering fits or impractical fabrics. We’re definitely guilty of wearing a few of these 7 “old fashioned" swimwear trends back in the day, but nothing compares to the designs we can shop today.

These are 7 bygone swimwear trends that have faded into fashion history – take a look at the styles you rarely see anymore!

1. Crochet Bikinis

Free People

It's Now Cool The Crochet Bikini Bottoms

Crochet bikinis were an undeniable hit in the 1970s and had a brief revival in the 2010s, but they’ve largely flopped in modern times because they’re not super practical.

Amazon

Seamoly Crochet Swimsuit

The crochet material tends to absorb more water than your typical swim-ready fabric, so it becomes heavy and saggy – not flattering. Plus, crochet swimmies can take a long time to dry and lose their shape quickly.

2. Belted Swimsuits

Anthropologie

Beach Riot Sydney Belted One-Piece Swimsuit

Once a super stylish choice in the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s, belted swimsuits (especially one-piece swimsuits) were highly favored for their hourglass-enhancing look.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A Luxe Link Belted One Piece

These days, they’ve become less common because the extra material can feel restrictive and impractical for swimming. The belt can easily dig into the skin, plus, modern designs can achieve similar figure-flattering effects with shaping silhouettes.

3. Swim Skirts

Old Navy

Old Navy High-Waisted Matte Swim Skirt

Swim skirts were beloved for their added modesty to any swim getup. Now, swimwear trends have moved toward sleeker, more streamlined suits!

J.Crew

J.Crew Swim Skirt

While some people still prefer swim skirts for extra coverage, many find them impractical because they add extra bulk. Showing more skin seems to be in!

4. Metallic Fabrics

Andie

Andie The Lipari One Piece

Shiny and eye-catching metallic swimsuits were especially popular in the 80s and early 2000s, but they’ve faded out of popularity due to some… wearability issues.

Nordstrom

La Blanca Earth Lace-Up Underwire One-Piece Swimsuit

The metallic fabrics these suits are made of tend to be less stretchy, degrade faster with sun and chlorine exposure, and can look less flattering when wet. Not great!

Macy's

Becca Liquid Metal Triangle Bikini Top

Today, swimwear leans toward matte and textured fabrics that are way more durable and comfortable.

5. Tankinis

Target

Shade & Shore Bandeau Tankini Top

We honestly wish tankinis were still around with the cult following they had in the late ‘90s and early 2000s.

Boden

Boden Porto Tankini Top

Offering more coverage than a bikini but still being more versatile than a one-piece, tankinis have sadly been replaced by more modern designs like high-waisted bikinis and sleek one-pieces. Plus, tankinis can sometimes bunch up awkwardly or feel less secure when you’re swimming.

6. Zebra Print

Target

Wild Fable Textured Medium Coverage Triangle Bikini Top

Animal prints were everywhere on swimwear in the early 2000s. While leopard print has made quite the comeback, zebra print isn’t as hot since it tends to look overly bold and outdated.

Urban Outfitters

Sunkissed Le Triangle String Bikini Top

Most modern swimwear patterns now favor softer, abstract prints or straight-up solid colors for a more sophisticated look.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie & Fitch Halter String Triangle Bikini Top

That isn’t to say you can’t wear zebra print swimsuits these days – if bold is your vibe, go for it!

7. Velvet Swimsuits

Triangl

Triangl Maia Vyne Swimsuit

Velvet swimsuits had a brief moment in the limelight during the ‘90s and 2000s, but they were never truly practical. The fabric, while luxurious on land, is quite terrible to wear when wet – it absorbs water, takes forever to dry, and can feel heavy and clingy.

Amazon

Cupshe One Shoulder Velvet Jacquard One Piece Swimsuit

Most people now prefer performance-ready swim fabrics that dry quickly and offer great stretch and comfort.

Dating or marrying someone you can't be yourself with feels awful, but Gisele Bündchen is done with that. She's moved on from life with Tom Brady and has been happily enjoying her relationship with jiu-jitsu trainer Joaquim Valente. She even announced she was pregnant with their first child together last year! But that doesn't means she's forgotten how she felt during her former marriage, nor is she shying away from embracing all the new feelings!

Keep scrolling to learn how Gisele Bündchen feels post her divorce from Tom Brady!

Jason Koerner/Getty Images IWC Schaffhausen

Gisele Bündchen is basking in the afterglow that comes from ending a draining relationship. According to Page Six, a source told them she's experiencing a "freer" feeling with her current boyfriend Joaquim Valente. This comes as a surprise because she and Tom Brady always looked happy in pictures together, but we see how they don't always show what happens behind closed doors.

But she's not slighting Tom! If anything, the source noted the former model is "grateful for what she had" with him and "is blessed for their children."

The observation Gisele's made is noticing that she "felt like she lived in Tom [Brady’s] shadow for a long time," according to the source. Sometimes we shrink ourselves so we don't eclipse the grandiose personality of our partners which can make us feel invisible over time. That's not to say Gisele wanted to overshadow Tom, but feeling heard and seen in a relationship should apply to both partners.

Knowing that the source says she's "absolutely loving this new chapter," it's incredibly valid for Gisele to embrace what feels like a breath of fresh air!

In a previous Page Six reporting, a different insider dished about how Tom felt upon learning Gisele was having a baby with Joaquim. "It just wasn’t something that was on his radar. So when Gisele broke the news to him he was stunned, to say the least." However, the former pro-football player accepted this new development in his ex-wife's life.

"At the end of the day, Tom’s sole focus is on his children and his career. What Gisele decides to do with her own life is really none of his business."
