Your Little Dreamer Is Going to Love This DIY Unicorn Rug

Has anyone else gotten annoyed over how expensive rugs are?! With home decor trends always changing, it’s hard to justify spending big bucks on a piece that could totally clash with next season’s look. This week, we created a unicorn rug inspired by cowhide rugs for our little one’s bedroom or play den. (Let’s be real: An animal skin lying on the floor of a kid’s room is kinda hard to explain. The unicorn version is a bit more whimsical.) But if unicorn skin rugs aren’t your style, use this hack to create a classic shag alternative. It will take time, but save you big bucks :)

Materials and Tools:

Instructions:

  1. Fold your white fuzzy fabric in half and draw half of your unicorn shape. Include half of a horn; curve for a head, an arm, and a leg; and half of a tail.
  2. Cut out your unicorn and trace onto the rug mat. Use fabric scissors to cut out the unicorn from the rug mat.
  3. Remove the center strip from the white fabric to expose the unicorn horn and unicorn tail.
  4. Cut thin strips from the furry fabric that measure about 1/2 x 3 inches.
  5. Weave four strips through the squares of the mat and then bunch together and tie off with a hair elastic. Continue until the mane and tail of the unicorn are covered.
  6. Cut similar strips of gold fabric and tie onto the mat for the unicorn’s horn.
  7. Glue down the two pieces of white fabric onto the rug mat. Add black felt eyes to complete the unicorn.

Fold your fabric in half and sketch out half of your unicorn. Practice on paper first so you know the proportions are right.

Trace your unicorn cutout onto your rug mat. Cut out using fabric scissors.

Cut out the center strip of the white fabric to reveal the unicorn’s horn and tail. Mark this section onto the rug mat.

Cut 1/2 x 3-inch strips of your fur fabric — this is messy, so get your vacuum ready to collect all the extra shedding fur.

Weave four strips into the rug mat and then tie off with a hair elastic. Continue until the whole mane and tail is covered.

This will take a good chunk of time, but it is worth it.

Repeat the same steps with the gold fabric for the unicorn’s horn.

Hot glue your white fabric to the rug mat.

Finish off your unicorn rug with black felt eyes to complete the look.

This rug is the perfect whimsical addition for any kid’s bedroom or play room.

We brought in five-year-old Frankie to show us how to correctly use this rug — rolling around, playing with toys, and dancing were definitely the important take aways.

My heart was melting as I watched Frankie play with her unicorn dolls on her new unicorn rug.

Planning a bathroom renovation? You're in luck because you haven’t committed to any trends that are headed for a 2025 exit. Home design trends typically have a shelf life of about a decade, which aligns perfectly with the timeline for refreshing your space — especially if you're planning to upgrade for resale value. In 2025, staples like white subway tile, black-and-white farmhouse vibes, and ultra-modern frameless mirrors are making their grand exit, and good riddance. Taking their place are organic, earthy shapes and tones, bringing a warm, natural touch to modern bathroom design.

Scroll to see 12 outdated bathroom trends to ditch in 2025!

Terry Magallanes

1. Black & White Farmhouse

What to do instead: Over the past decade, this stark look dominated bathrooms, but it’s time to bring in some warmth and personality. The latest bathroom trends focus on natural materials like wood, stone, and linen, paired with earthy tones such as rich browns, deep greens, and soft rosy hues to create a cozy, inviting space. If you’re still drawn to the modern farmhouse aesthetic, give it a fresh update by incorporating vintage art and unfinished brass accents — subtle nods to the past with a modern, elevated twist.

Quark Studio

2. Frameless Mirrors

What to do instead: Framed mirrors add character and tie into your bathroom's aesthetic. Organic oval shapes, art deco-inspired curves, and frames made from materials like wood and brass, even blending the frame color into the wall's paint color, are becoming popular choices.

Vecislavas Popa

3. Carrara White Marble

What to do instead: This overdone material can look overly sterile, especially when it takes over a bathroom like this one. Instead, add earthy elements like artisanal zellige-style tiles from places like Zia Tile and Fireclay Tile, as well as unique marbles in jewel tones like red jasper.

Cottonbro Studio

4. Ornate Fixtures

What to do instead: An antique piece or two can add character and charm to a bathroom. This space feels overwhelmed by too many vintage elements and lacks sophistication. Instead, opt for clean-lined fixtures in matte black or brushed brass, pair them with natural stone countertops, and select a mirror and lighting with a more refined, architectural design.

Curtis Adams

5. Jacuzzi Tubs (And This Glass Block Window)

What to do instead: Freestanding tubs or spacious showers with a steam feature offer a more elegant and modern alternative to bulky jacuzzi tubs, which not only hog space but are also notoriously difficult to clean. The glass block window dates the bathroom's design even more. For a fresher, more open feel, enjoy the view and bring in natural light with a clear glass window if privacy isn’t a concern.

William LeMond

6. Tile Explosion

What to do instead: Give your bathroom a breather with some bare walls for a modern look. Combine tiles you love with painted walls, wood paneling, or textured finishes, and use them strategically, like in the shower or as a backsplash.

Sanibell BV

7. Vessel Sinks

What to do instead: Vessel sinks are leaving the trend sphere in 2025. (I'm also not a fan of pedestal sinks). Instead, opt for integrated sinks in stone or concrete for a seamless look, or choose under-mount sinks with a quartz or earth-toned marble countertop.

Phil Hearing

8. Generic Overhead Lighting

What to do instead: The classic "boob lights" and generic ceiling mounts often seen in rentals are overstaying their welcome. Instead, elevate your space with softer, layered lighting or modern sconces that provide a warm, flattering glow.

99.films

9. Traditional Bath Mats

What to do instead: Washable rugs made from natural wool or cotton are emerging as decor statement in bathrooms, offering unique colors and eye-catching prints. If you're partial to a traditional bathmat, consider keeping it tucked away until you need it, rather than displaying it, to keep your bath from feeling outdated.

Jon Stebbe

10. White Subway Tile

What to do instead: White subway tile in traditional brick or herringbone patterns are on their way out. They're overdone and a bit sterile. Shades like sage green, dusty pink, warm clay, or earthy tones can make the space feel more welcoming.

Point3D Commercial Imaging Ltd.

11. Faux Wood Tile

What to do instead: Anything pretending to be what it's not is out for 2025. Faux wood tile or vinyl can make your home look cheap and outdated. Instead, choose natural stones, porcelain, and cement tiles, or go for an actual wood flooring that is protected for moisture.

Jean van der Meulen

12. Overly Themed

What to do instead: Avoid being too gimmicky in your bathroom decor with a theme like beach, western, or industrial. Draw inspiration from nature, use organic materials like natural stone, and incorporate greenery with potted plants. Here's inspiration for a coastal home if you're into the beach vibes!

Justin Baldoni didn't only send Blake Lively a 7-minute voice note apologizing for his behavior during pre-production, he also exchanged some pretty shocking text messages with the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actress. At least, before they filed their lawsuits against each other at the end of 2024. Well, one of their text message conversations while filming It Ends With Us last spring just leaked, and trust me, you'll have to read this to believe it.

Keep reading to see Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively's text messages while filming It Ends With Us.

Justin Baldoni calls 'It Ends With Us' costar Blake Lively an "a—hole" in newly leaked texts.

pagesix.com

Honestly, Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively's text messages sound exactly the kind of back-and-forth their characters Lily Bloom and Ryle Kincade would have. And according to Justin's team, they were “share[ing] stories and pictures from their lives, commiserat[ing] over family illnesses and exchange[ing] jokes and memes."

Their quick friendship and working relationship definitely extended to their text conversations.

"It's such a good feeling to get work done that we're proud of," Blake said in a 2AM text message on May 11, 2023 (via Page Six). "And to do it together. It just clicks when we find it. And that's just as rewarding as filming it. Or editing it. Or marketing it. Or releasing it. This is all story telling. This is why we do it. Thank you for your collaboration. I'm really proud of what we're doing."

When Justin says that he likes "sentimental Blake," she responds that she's "never met her." But when Justin flips and jokes that he "also like[s] a—hole Blake...don't worry," Blake quips back with, "I've met her. So have my suppositories."

But he also praises their collaboration on such a "healing" story.

In his voice memo, Justin Baldoni also praised their collaboration on It Ends With Us, telling Blake that "I'm excited to go through the whole movie with you. I'm just excited to spend time with you, I'm excited to be in your sphere and your presence."

"There's nothing more exciting to me then I get to work with Blake Lively and have all of her," he continues. "I want this movie to be healing, I want this movie to be commercial, just like you, and affect people...And I just know this can be really, really special."

It Ends With Us went on to partner with No More, which provides domestic violence survivors with access to help, and earned over $350 million at the global box office during its time in theaters. Now the actors are headed to court to settle their dispute on March 9, 2026.

Bedrooms are our comfort zones — a place to rest and relax — and should reflect our personalities. Of course, trends are fun to follow and incorporate to keep our spaces fresh and modern. But we shouldn't follow fleeting trends too rigidly. Some once wildly popular bedroom trends are now making spaces feel dated rather than beautiful and stylish. If you're looking to refresh your sanctuary in 2025, here are some trends to leave behind and what you can do instead to create a warm, inviting space.

Out: The Accent Wall

What To Do Instead: Accent walls are out — full-room color drenching is in. Covering all four walls (and even the ceiling) in a single hue or pattern creates a space that feels both cohesive and elegant. Want to add color to your walls? Here are paint colors that will be huge in 2025.

Trend

Out: All White, Black or Both

What To Do Instead: Stark contrasts of black, white, and everything in between (like grey) are fading away. Warmer, more natural, and earthy hues are taking their place, creating inviting and cozy spaces.

Out: Low Platform Beds

What To Do Instead: Instead of a low platform bed, which can cause bumps and bruises in the middle of the night, opt for a cozier look by incorporating upholstered headboards, elegant bedskirts, and a design with a smaller horizontal footprint to create a softer, more inviting feel.

Max Vakhtbovycn

Out: Minimalism

What To Do Instead: I will always be a minimalist at heart as I love it's clutter-free sensibility. But there's a trend toward a more "lived-in" minimalism to bring more personality and richness into a space, including adding more personal touches like unique artwork, vintage decor, and layers of soft textiles.

Wayfair

Out: Matching Furniture Sets

What To Do Instead: Identical nightstands, dressers, and bed frames can make a space feel overly staged and impersonal. Embrace an eclectic mix by combining different materials, finishes, and styles that reflect your personality. Think vintage nightstands paired with a modern upholstered bed for a curated look.

La Miko

Out: Chevron Anything

What To Do Instead: Seek out organic shapes, soft geometrics, and vintage-inspired motifs. Think botanical prints, checkerboard designs, and subtle textures that add a little depth to your space. Earthy tones and hand-drawn aesthetics bring warmth, while classic stripes and timeless plaids are great patterns that never go out of style.

shche_ team

Out: Boho Aesthetic

What To Do Instead: Avoid the kitschy style of boho with macrame, pampas grass, and rattan everything. Instead, go for a refined, curated aesthetic with a focus on natural materials, earthy tones, and authentic global treasures. Think layered textures, organic shapes, and vintage-inspired pieces that feel intentional rather than eclectic. It’s a softer, more sophisticated take that still feels cozy and global.

Collov Home Design

Out: Hotel Chic

What To Do Instead: Even hotel rooms are becoming less like hotel rooms by embracing a more personalized and lived-in aesthetic. This room feels too sterile and symmetrical. You don't get a sense of who lives here. Instead, layer soft, textured materials like boucle and linen, incorporate curated vintage or artisan pieces, and prioritize functional furniture with character. Add warmth through earthy tones, meaningful decor, and greenery to create a cozy, approachable space that feels uniquely yours.

Walmart

Out: Industrial

What To Do Instead: Swap your metal frames, Edison bulb lighting, and reclaimed wood pieces with softer, more refined touches. Incorporate warm neutrals, plush textiles, and organic materials to balance the starkness of this rustic decor style.

Wayfair

Out: Hollywood Regency

What To Do Instead: Instead of Hollywood Regency decor, which can be a bit "extra," opt for understated elegance. Look for natural materials like marble, wood, and linen and incorporate subtle metallic accents in warm tones (like unfinished brass or bronze). Art Deco influences are becoming more prominent if you prefer this opulent design. Look for scalloped shapes, curvy edged sofas, and statement chandeliers with an architectural silhouette.

Jess Loiterton

Out: Theme Rooms

What To Do Instead: A theme room can feel overly staged or quickly outdated. Instead aim for a cohesive style that reflects your personality. Focus on layering textures, mixing complementary colors, and incorporating meaningful pieces like art, heirlooms, or travel finds. For example, instead of a "beach" theme, introduce natural materials like jute, soft blues and earth tones, and coastal-inspired art in a subtle way.

Avi Richards

Out: Barn Doors

What To Do Instead: Go for a sleeker, more modern solution that blends with your decor here. Consider a pocket door for a clean, space-saving look or a pivot door for a more architectural vibe. French doors are always an elegant choice. These alternatives provide a polished, timeless feel that isn't overly rustic or trendy.

Seriously, compared to last year’s Valentine’s Day, this one will be so much better — intentional, heartfelt, and filled with excitement all at the same time. The best part? This holiday falls on Friday, the day ruled by the love planet, Venus. Read on and see what’s in store for your zodiac sign this Valentine’s Day!

What’s Happening in the Skies This Valentine’s Day 2025?

Emma Hansn/Dupe

  • Moon sextile Mars
  • Mercury enters Pisces
  • Moon opposite Saturn
  • Moon trine Uranus

There Will Be Solid Plans & Synchronicities — But Avoid Reconnecting with Exes

Bekah Beckman/Dupe

To begin with, the Moon rules the mood of the love holiday and influences how we make decisions based on our feelings. Venus, the love planet, is in the sign of Aries and gives off a fiery energy that begs for excitement and adventure. These two celestial energies can be a bit paradoxical, but you may be able to use them to your benefit as you stay aware of how you want love to unfold on this day.

The day starts with a slow build as the Moon moves into the earth sign Virgo. Expect the mood to be pragmatic, selective, and intentional. However, the day will turn out to be more exciting than you might initially anticipate. Have a strategy, but be open to trying something new. You’ll be surprised by how epic your love holiday will turn out. Expect solid results if you have big plans, like a weekend getaway with your love or a Galentine’s Day outing. The only challenge might be expressing your feelings, as this Moon phase can lead to socially awkward encounters or make you feel shy and unsettled when revealing your inner self.

Expect signs and synchronicities on this day, as Mercury moves into dreamy Pisces. This sign has to do with spirit and subtle messages. Our ability to communicate will be poetic and more introspective. If you plan to go out this year, expect the day to feel more romantic than in past years. Speaking from the heart and through feeling will yield better results than relying on pride or logic. Be playful and stay in the moment. Cherish your love.

Liza Dulmelinck/Dupe

The Moon-Mars sextile can lead to sexy encounters as Mars in emotive Cancer attracts passionate yet dramatic exchanges. You may score a date with someone you least expected. Check your DMs or ask them out based on your feelings—not out of anxiety. Be mindful of situationships, and make sure your connection is solid. The Moon-Saturn opposition can bring feelings of boredom or isolation. So, if you feel lonely or unsettled because of your relationship status, avoid calling the ex or getting lost in memory lane — reliving the glory days will only lead to a dead end. If you're single, focus on self-love and celebrate you! Avoid making a move simply because you don’t want to be alone on this holiday.

By the end of the day, things will get exciting with the Moon-Uranus trine. Expect to feel confident and extra sultry in the bedroom. It will be about how you feel in your connection with your special someone — not about seeking revenge. Anything driven by hurt or volatile intentions will lead to unwanted results. Remember that the Moon in Virgo radiates stability and trust. You'll attract better outcomes in your love story as you stay positive and understanding with these energies. Whether single or in a relationship, stay invested in your heart and honor its needs.
