Ellen Pompeo’s Farewells to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Costars Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw Are Too Much

It’s the end of an era. As Grey’s Anatomy stars Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw wrap up their roles on the long-running Shonda Rhimes fave, their costar Ellen Pompeo is sending them off with the sweetest farewell notes.

Pompeo took to Instagram to give each woman a shout-out, starting with Jessica Capshaw, who first appeared as Dr. Arizona Robbins in season 5, and whose character had the distinction of being one of the first portrayals of a lesbian in a series regular role on network TV.

“Boom. Thank you @jessicacapshaw for bringing it the way you have brought it for 10 amazing years,” Pompeo posted about her costar, whom she referred to as a GOAT (greatest of all time). “What a blessing you are and what a contribution you made to television history. Lit that screen up with your glow on the LGBT community, making a difference and making it all look so easy.”

Pompeo then gave Drew, who started as Dr. April Kepner in season 6, her own tribute, starting with a simple thank you. “You served up the sugar and spice for nine years and it’s been a blast,” Pompeo wrote. “Your passion and talent for storytelling has touched so many people, provoked thought, and Grey’s is a better show because of it and you.”

The news of the cast shakeup came as a shock to many fans of the show. While there was some speculation that the departures were due to Pompeo’s salary increase, both the show’s lead and Grey‘s showrunner Krista Vernoff have adamantly refuted the outdated and sexist idea, stating that the decision was an entirely creative one.

Meanwhile, Capshaw and Drew have been sharing their emotional final days on the set of Grey’s on social media. “It’s like the last days of senior year in high school where you appreciate every moment and take pictures of everything you do,” Capshaw captioned a recent Instagram post.

So far, no dates have been given for the actresses’ final episodes.

Valentine’s Day is all about love, but let’s be real: some gifts just don’t say “I adore you” the way they used to! While romancenever goes out of style, it’s easy for certain Valentine’s Day gifts to feel more like a last-minute grabthan a compassionate, heartfelt expression of love.

If you want to impress your special someone this Valentine's Day, it’s time to retire these 7 “outdated” and overdone gifts that scream predictable.

Scroll on for the 7 “outdated” Valentine’s Day gifts you should definitely skip this year – and what to give instead!

1. Heart-shaped jewelry

Now don’t get me wrong – heart-shaped jewelry can be super cute, but oftentimes, it can feel a little cheesy and predictable for Valentine’s Day.

Instead, consider your Valentine’s personal interests and search for some jewelry that way. Whether it’s sports, animals, or astrology, you’ll surely be able to find something that suits them more closely.

2. Huge teddy bears

Those big teddies – or even just the cheap stuffed animals from the drugstore – are not practical whatsoever and tend to collect dust. Unless you know of a very specific plush that your Valentine's been wanting, it’s okay to skip the stuffed animals.

Picjumbo / PEXELS

3. A dozen roses

While red roses can be a romantic gesture, there are so many other flowers to consider. Roses are simply generic AF and very expected – instead, get to the bottom of what your Valentine’s favorite flower is and run with that! From lilies to mums, you could even create your own bouquet with just a little extra effort.

4. Fake plants

The same idea goes for fake plants. Why invest in a fake plant when a real one can be so much more meaningful? This way, every time your Valentine goes to water the plant you gave them, they’ll be thinking of you. ❤️

5. Matching gifts

Matching t-shirts, mugs, socks, and the like are honestly pretty cringeworthy, unless you’re really into them. Your Valentine will definitely appreciate a unique gift a lot more this year.

Amazon

6. Cheap chocolates

Cheap chocolates are good for a last-minute gift, but if you want your gift to feel special to your Valentine, please take the extra time (and money!) to opt for a fancier box. They’ll look better and taste better.

Jill Wellington / PEXELS

7. Anything impersonal

All of this goes to say that anything impersonal makes a cliche and outdated Valentine’s Day gift. You don’t even have to go insanely above and beyond for your date this year – just a little extra consideration will definitely make them feel loved.

Gluten-free eaters, listen up: Trader Joe’s just dropped a GF version of one of their most popular desserts, the sheet cake! Known to be quick, easy, and cheap desserts to bring to parties or just take home to treat yourself, the chain’s vanilla and dark chocolate sheet cakes have stolen the hearts of many TJ’s shoppers – myself included!

But this brand-new sheet cake isn’t just any sheet cake. It packs a punch with a totally nostalgic flavor combo I’m positive gluten-free and non-gluten-free eaters alike will love.

Enter the Yellow Mini Sheet Cake, a buttermilk-based cake with “plenty” of vanilla in its batter that’s made with GF-friendly rice flour, potato starch, cornstarch, and tapioca starch. The cake itself boasts a distinct yellow color that really reminds me of a Betty Crocker classic.

Of course, Trader Joe’s worked hard with their baker to make sure the texture of this gluten-free cake is perfect – sometimes a big feat for a GF treat. According to the grocer, it is “moist and flavorful with a tender crumb.” Yum!

The yum doesn’t stop there. The yellow cake base is, of course, topped with a super thick layer of chocolate buttercream icing that really gets the tastebuds going and the nostalgia kicking.

Trader Joe’s fan account @trader_joes_treasure_hunt shared the new item with their Instagram followers, and tons of people sounded off with excitement.

“Omg yes!!” one person wrote. “Yellow cake and chocolate frosting is my favorite combo 😍”

“Finally a cake for us gluten free peeps!❤️” another said.

“Running there to get it!” one more person announced.

Reddit

This Reddit thread detailing the Yellow Mini Sheet Cake‘s release also gained a lot of online traction because of how good it is.

“Omg finally a gluten free sheet cake,” one Redditor wrote. “I’ve always been sad that I could never try the much talked about Trader Joe’s sheet cakes, can’t wait to try this.”

“I am not gf but I have purchased many of tj’s gf desserts and most of them are so good that I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference if I didn’t read the packaging,” another person noted.

“I'm not going to buy that, because I'll eat it all in a single day,” someone else said. “Sometimes the only way to win is to not play.”

“I bought this the other day because it’s my favorite cake combo and it’s delicious!!” one more Redditor confirmed.

Every single week, people across the nation flock to their local grocery stores to restock their fridges and cabinets with their preferred produce. And everyone, regardless of their gender, age, or background, tends to have a favorite chain to shop at.

Some believe that Trader Joe's is the best due to its affordable products and overall friendly atmosphere; meanwhile, others love supermarkets like Aldi, Kroger, or Publix.

Well, a new study conducted by YouGov, a global public opinion and data company, has revealed the 20 most popular grocery stores in America, and the top slot may shock you.

Scroll to find out what the most popular grocery store in the U.S. is — including where Trader Joe's falls!

Whillien Ghae

For the research effort, 1,220 people who reside in the United States were interviewed during October, November, and December 2024. To gauge public opinion on grocery stores, the study honed in on two different aspects: brand recognition and positive views of said brand. The former is designated as "fame," and the latter is "popularity."

7-Eleven

Spoiler alert: 7-Eleven actually stole first place as the most popular grocery store in the country. The chain emerged with a 97% fame rating and a 65% popularity rating. Only 8% of study participants reported disliking 7-Eleven, and 24% were "neutral" toward the company.

The fact that 7-Eleven won may have you scratching your head, considering it's generally viewed as a convenience store. Nonetheless, the chain, which has over 9,000 locations, does sell drinks, snacks, and carry-out food options, ranging from nachos to pizza and wines. Plus, there are certain locations known as Evolution stores, which offer additional products like craft beer and wine.

Taylor Musser

Despite the somewhat surprising victory, other well-known grocery stores weren't far behind. Trader Joe's came in second place with a 94% fame ranking and a 64% popularity rate. Fewer people also reported disliking Trader Joe's (5%) compared to 7-Eleven.

This is a notable achievement, considering Trader Joe's only has 608 locations throughout the United States.

Cora Pursley

Next, the third place spot for the most popular grocery store was taken by Whole Foods Market. Study participants gave this grocery store a fame ranking of 95% and a popularity rate of 61%.

The rest of the top 10 in order included Aldi, Kroger, Circle K, Publix, Fresh Market, Safeway, and Sprouts Farmers Market.

Stephanie Backer

Interestingly, among specifically Millennials, 7-Eleven still reigned supreme as the most popular grocery store. Generation X and male participants, on the other hand, favored Trader Joe's. Moreover, Baby Boomers and women actually sent Kroger to the winning slot among their respective demographics.

But while there seem to be some generational and gender differences, the overall public opinion is clear. 7-Eleven, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods Market were all close contenders at the tail end of 2024. What chain will emerge victorious in 2025 remains to be seen.
