Materials + Tools:
- — sequins and beads, various sizes
- — thread, gray or white
- — sewing needle
- — pencil skirt
Instructions:
1. Wash and iron the skirt so it’s a smooth and clean surface to stitch on.
2. Thread the sewing needle, and knot the end of the thread.
3. Bring the needle up through the fabric, and drop a sequin onto the thread.
4. Bring the needle down through the fabric right beside the sequin, sewing one side of the sequin down. Then bring the needle up again very close to the edge to add another sequin. Keep repeating for sequins and beads to create a sequin cluster.
5. Once you have sewn all the sequins in place, knot the end of the thread on the back side of the fabric.

Instead, hold the thread in place and bring the needle to the thread. Knot the end of the thread. We’re using hand-sewing techniques, so if you know how to sew a button on a shirt, you can sew sequins. Bring the needle up through the fabric, and drop a sequin onto the thread. Bring the needle down through the fabric right beside the sequin, sewing one side of the sequin down. Then bring the needle up again very close to the edge to add another sequin. Keep repeating with sequins and beads to create a sequin cluster. You might choose to play around with the spacing between sequins while sewing, but it doesn’t have to be perfect — a random pattern of sequin clusters will have the same overall look. Once you’ve sewn all the sequins in place, knot the end of the thread on the back side of the fabric. That’s it!
