8 Epic Winter Wonderland Trips to Book ASAP

Some of us might still be in the process of pulling out our fave cashmere sweaters and basking in the joys of all the pumpkin spice recipes, but keep in mind, winter is here! We love, love, love winter. It’s the time when we get to layer soft & cuddly clothes, sip cups and cups of homemade hot cocoa and pull out our beloved down comforters. While it might be tempting to hibernate like a bear and enjoy some snow-day activities at home, this is the perfect opportunity for a frost-filled foray. Now’s the time to plan your winter-wonderland getaway, before everything gets booked up.

1. Go to Alaska to see the Northern Lights. Nature puts on quite a show during the winter, as the skies become surreally beautiful thanks to the Northern Lights. The best time to see the spectacular aurora borealis is the dead of winter and the best place is wayyyy up north in Fairbanks, Alaska. It’s geographically right smack-dab under the “aurora oval” that determines where the lights appear.

Stay here: Get cozy at the Chena Hot Springs Resort. This over-100-year-old resort is an ideal place to witness the stunning skies. They specialize in viewings with perks like providing a unique “aurora wake-up call” for guests staying in their Moose Lodge. For those who want to avoid the cold middle-of-the-night air (and it will be COLD), they have the Aurorium, a heated log cabin with large glass windows facing northeast that’s open 24 hours a day. (Photo via Chena Hot Springs Resort)

2. Sleep in the cold at the Icehotel in Sweden. If you want to take an international trip to see the aurora borealis and you’re in the mood for unforgettable lodgings, then you sooooo have to head to the world-famous Icehotel in the Swedish village of Jukkasjärvi (located north of the Arctic Circle). Along with lounging in rooms carved entirely from ice, you’ve gotta get a drink at the Icebar, where the cocktails are served in ice glasses and you can dance on a floor made of snow.

Sleep here: There are several types of rooms to choose from, and since you went ALL the way to Sweden, you might as well splurge for the craziest room you can, such as one of their Art Suites. Each of the deluxe rooms is individually designed and sculpted in eclectic themes by a variety of artists. (Photo via Icehotel)

3. Get your Elsa on in Norway. The best place to bust out “Let It Go” is, without a doubt, Norway. The fjords, the picturesque wooden churches and the snow — lots and lots of snow — await.

Stay here: While Sweden has the Icehotel, neighboring Norway has the Kirkenes Snow Hotel. From late December to mid May, this temporary hotel has rooms featuring detailed snow art with themes from fairy tales to seafaring. They also have king-crab fishing trips, dog sledding and northern-lights tours. (Photo via Kirkenes Snow Hotel)

4. Take a winter river cruise down the Danube or the Rhine. Imagine slowly drifting down a famous river in ye olde Europe at a leisurely pace, seeing all sorts of small European towns and villages and basking in the glow of snow-capped mountains and landmarks. Sounds mighty fine, right? Adventures by Disney (Disney’s travel arm) puts together epic holiday cruises that hit a variety of historical sights, events and treats like seeing the Vienna Boys’ Choir IN Vienna. (Note: I’m going on the Danube Holiday cruise this December and OMG, I can’t wait!)

Do this: Hit, like, every Christmas market and buy ALL THE THINGS. There are handcrafted gifts, ornaments and ornate doodads that make for fabulous holiday gifts. If you’re interested in one of these cruises but don’t want to travel with a whole bunch of kids, they do offer adult-only river cruises with a focus on food and wine. (Photo via Adventures by Disney)

5. Go on a reindeer safari in Lapland, Finland. Some might prefer to safari in the wilds of Africa, but if you’re craving cold weather along with your critters, then a reindeer safari in Lapland, Finland is just the thing. During your journey in snowy Lapland, you’ll travel in a very old-school way: a reindeer-pulled sleigh. You can also take a husky, snow-mobile, snow-tank, or ice-fishing safari.

Stay here: Head to the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Lapland, where you can choose to stay in a glass igloo, a log chalet or a snow igloo: totally EPIC accommodations. (Photo via Kakslauttanen)

6. Get lit up at Montréal en Lumière in Montreal, Canada. Head north to one of the largest winter festivals in the world. Montréal en Lumière celebrates winter and lights with oodles to do — performances, cuisine, free outdoor family activities — from February 23 to March 11. If you’d like to pull an all-nighter, head to Nuit blanche à Montréal, a 24-hour party including 200 (mostly free) activities, all linked by free shuttle service. (2017 Nuit blanche schedule to be announced on February 7.)

Stay here:Le Petit Hôtel is housed in two buildings, one of which was once a 19th-century leather factory. Although it has classic touches, such as rustic brick walls and wood detailing, the hotel is still very modern. (Think free WiFi and plasma TVs.) (Photo via Tourisme Montréal)

7. Take a train ride into the Canadian Rockies. There is something so charming about the idea of a leisurely train trip across a countryside that looks like the pristine inside of a snowglobe. You’ll be able to watch the snow-blanketed landscape go by as you sit in your cozy cabin or lounge in the observation car on one of the extended train journeys through the totally gorg Canadian Rockies.

Do this: Enjoy a few of the highlights offered on the various trips, such as going on a Maligne Canyon Icewalk, taking a private sleigh ride by Lake Louise or visiting a spa in Whistler. (Photo via Fresh Tracks Travel)

8. Explore the city of Takayama in Japan. Venture to the Far East this winter for an unforgettable visit to Takayama, a town in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture. Walk the narrow streets of the Sanmachi Suji historic district, which is lined with wooden merchants’ houses dating to the Edo Period (1603-1868).

Stay here: Don’t stay in one of the big hotels. Instead, book a room at one of the many traditional guest houses (ryokan) in the area. Some of them are in century-old farmhouses, and others feature amenities like outdoor hot-spring baths and culinary delights. (Photo via Getty)

Any Hunger Games fan will agree that one of the best parts about Catching Fire is that it offers a whole new look at Haymitch Abernathy's character. The mentor (played by Woody Harrelson in the film franchise) won the 2nd Quarter Quell, and the brief mention of his Games totally captured fans' attention, leading to fan art, fanfiction, and even some viral short films. Well, we're finally getting the full story thanks to a brand new Haymitch Hunger Games book, just in time for spring 2025!

Here's everything we know about Sunrise On The Reaping, coming March 2025.

Who's narrating the audiobook?

Cam McLeod/Paramount

It was confirmed on February 3 that Yellowstone actor Jefferson White will narrate the Sunrise on the Reaping audiobook.

“It's an honor to be a small part of a world I’ve loved for so long — Suzanne Collins is a genius and it's equal parts exhilarating and terrifying to be back in Panem," he told People.

See The Official 'Sunrise On The Reaping' Cover

Amazon

The Sunrise on the Reaping cover was unveiled the morning of October 16 and it's just as beautiful as we hoped! It continues the tradition from the other books of a bold background color with gold and white accents, and I'll admit I was surprised when I first saw the snake and the mockingjay. The snake is obviously a nod to President Snow, and we know that both Lucy Gray Baird and Katniss Everdeen are two songbirds the President was never able to shake. Will Haymitch Abernathy become one as well?

In the original books, Haymitch starts out as an angry man with no friends or family who always has a drink in his hand, but by the end of Mockingjay, he's a wise, caring father figure for Katniss — and I'm betting Sunrise on the Reaping will show us plenty of those character traits as he has to make his way through the Hunger Games.

One detail on the cover that concerns me is the fact the snake and the songbird are connected, and that a sun sits between them. David Levithan, Scholastic's vice president, publisher, and editorial director told TODAY that just like the other covers, this one features "one of the central themes of the series: how conflicting forces can be connected by their common nature, the songbird and the snake springing from the same source."

When is Sunrise on the Reaping coming out?

Lionsgate

Sunrise on the Reaping will hit stores on March 18, 2025.

What is the Sunrise on the Reaping going to be about?

Scholastic/Instagram

The new Hunger Games book is called Sunrise on the Reaping. According to the official announcement, the story will take place 24 years before The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the 50th Games' reaping. While fans had hoped the story would chronicle Haymitch's victory, it wasn't confirmed until October 16. Read the full synopsis below:

"As the day dawns on the 50th annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes. Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves. When Haymitch’s name is called, he can feel all his dreams break. He’s torn from his family and his love, shuttled to the Capitol with the three other District 12 tributes: a young friend who’s nearly a sister to him, a compulsive oddsmaker, and the most stuck-up girl in town. As the Games begin, Haymitch understands he’s been set up to fail. But there’s something in him that wants to fight ... and have that fight reverberate far beyond the deadly arena."

Can you preorder Sunrise on the Reaping?

Murray Close/Lionsgate

Yes, you can pre-order the book now!

What happened in Haymitch's Hunger Games?

Lionsgate

As a Quarter Quell, the 50th Hunger Games had a twist. Just like the 75th Hunger Games pulled the tributes from the existing victors, the 50th required double the tributes, meaning Haymitch (who was 16 years old at the time) was one of 48 tributes, not 24.

The arena was a breathtaking landscape with a forest, snow-capped mountains, and beautiful flowers. But Haymitch quickly realized the beauty was a trap, and that everything in the arena was poisonous. He was able to outsmart the rest of the competitors, but after he used the forcefield against the other remaining tribute to secure his victory (a move that offended the Capitol), President Snow retaliated by killing his family and his girlfriend.

Is Sunrise on the Reaping about Haymitch?

Murray Close/Lionsgate

Yes, Sunrise on the Reaping is about Haymitch Abernathy and his win during the 50th Hunger Games.

After rumors started circulating that Taylor Swift had distanced herself from Blake Lively following the It Ends With Us drama (and those Game of Thrones texts), we can confirm that Blake Lively was not at the Super Bowl with Taylor on February 9. Well, regardless of if Taylor really didn't invite Blake or Blake wanted to stay home with Ryan Reynolds and their four kids (James, Betty, Inez, and Olin), we do know who was there.

Here are the celebrities who were in Taylor Swift's Super Bowl suite.

Taylor Swift's Super Bowl suite was full of celebrities!

Taylor Swift was joined in her Super Bowl suite with Ice Spice and the Haim sisters (Alana Haim, Este Haim, Danielle Haim), both of whom Taylor's collaborated with in the past. The "Cruel Summer" singer was also joined by longtime friend Ashley Avignone, whom she met through their mutual friend Emma Stone. And Machine Gun Kelly was reportedly in the suite too!

And of course, the group was joined by Donna Kelce, Jason and Kylie Kelce, and Tay's family Scott Swift, Andrea Swift, and Austin Swift.

According to a Daily Mail source, "Taylor is not shading Blake or is she trying to teach her a lesson. It isn't like that. Even if Taylor did invite Blake, Blake would not come."

"She would never want to make Taylor's big night – where she is going to see the love of her life play in another Super Bowl – about her," the insider continues. "Blake would not want to overshadow Taylor ever."

Conversations around Blake Lively's presence (or lack thereof) were quickly replaced discussing the fact Taylor Swift was booed by the crowd when the NFL showed her onscreen. The popstar has already talked about how she doesn't "know how they know what suite I'm in."

“There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once," she said in a TIME Magazine interview in 2023. "I’m just there to support Travis.”

One Swiftie makes the excellent point that "the cheers for taylor after champagne problems lasted a lot longer than any of these dads brads and chads ever have."

And Serena Williams agrees! "I love you @taylorswift13 dont listen to those booo!!" she tweeted.

Babe wake up, Knives Out 3 is officially on its way! It's been almost two years since we saw Benoit Blanc solve his second case in Netflix's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. The film (which stars Janelle Monae, Madelyn Cline, and Kathryn Hahn) followed a case of secret identities, intrigue, and also received an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, NBD. On May 24, 2024 Netflix confirmed that Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is coming, and on June 10, they confirmed filming began outside London!

Here's everything you need to know about Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, including a first look at the characters.

Your first official look at Josh O'Connor in 'Knives Out 3'

John Wilson/Netflix

All I've been able to think about since the first set pictures leaked (see below) is "move over Fleabag Hot Priest!" Our first official look at Josh O'Connor (whose character name we still don't know) and Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc features the duo inside a cathedral with a seriously gloomy atmosphere. I'm willing to bet this is the middle of Benoit's investigation — and I'm hoping Josh is there every step of the way. Who knows; maybe that black jacket will be the new Chris Evans white sweater.

Our first look at Josh O'Connor on the set of Knives Out 3 totally confirmed my personal hope and theory the movie would be set around a graveyard, and it's also the second time Josh has played a priest. He starred in 2020's Emma as Mr. Elton!

Your first look at Benoit Blanc in 'Knives Out 3'

Netflix

Benoit Blanc is debuting a brand new look in the new Knives Out movie. The black and white filter goes perfectly with the Wake Up Dead Man title, and is also reminding me a bit of Frankenstein.

What is the movie Wake Up Dead Man about?

Lionsgate

Daniel Craig narrates the official Instagram announcement, saying, "In the beginning, the knives came out. Then, behold, the glass was shattered. But my most dangerous case yet is about to be revealed." The title Wake Up Dead Man definitely sounds scary, so I wouldn't be surprised if the story took place around a graveyard.

I'm expecting it to be extra spooky after actor Josh Brolin (who you'll recognize from Dune and as the voice of Thanos) told New York City Comic Con that the story "scared" him.

"I read it and I was just like, 'God, this is so well written. We just don't read things like this anymore,'" he said during the panel (via People). "It turned out that it was a cast, a lot of people who I had worked with, a lot of people who I loved and hadn't met yet, like Andrew Scott and Josh O'Connor, and people like that...Then doing it turned out, I mean, still one of my favorite jobs that I've ever had."

"I can't say what I played," he continued. "It scared me, which I wanted to be scared."

Is there going to be a Knives Out 3?

Image via Netflix

Yes, we're getting a Knives Out 3! Netflix bought the rights to at least two more Knives Out movies following the success of the first film in the fall of 2019. And on May 24, the official Instagram account confirmed the third movie, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, will be hitting our screens soon. The movie will feature Benoit Blanc's "most dangerous case yet."

When is Knives Out 3 coming out?

Netflix

Knives Out 3 is coming in 2025. While we don't have a specific release date yet, the title and graphics for Wake Up Dead Man is definitely giving spooky Halloween vibes. Hopefully we can add it to our list of our Favorite Halloween Movies!

Will Wake Up Dead Man be on Netflix?

Yes, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will be available to stream on Netflix.

Who's in the cast of Knives Out 3?

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue

Our first Knives Out 3 cast members are here! In addition to Daniel Craig, we'll see Challengers' Josh O’Connor and Priscilla's Cailee Spaeny. Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church are also in the cast of Wake Up Dead Man.

Considering the franchise has Madelyn Cline, Chris Evans, Janelle Monae, and Ana de Armas, I knew Netflix wouldn't disappoint!

Is Knives Out 1 connected to Knives Out 2?

Lionsgate

Knives Out 2 is a standalone sequel to the first Knives Out movie. So Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc helps with each case, even if the rest of the characters don't know each other. I'm expecting Knives Out 3 to follow that same format.

You've seen Adam Brody in The O.C. You've seen Adam Brody in Nobody Wants This. But you've never seen him like this. In his new Super Bowl commercial with Pringles, the actor and all-around heartthrob recruits the most unlikely of suspects to help replenish his Big Game snacks: mustaches. Yep, you read that right so I'll let it hang in the air for a moment longer. We talked to the actor about his favorite Super Bowl snacks and the one thing he's excited for in Nobody Wants This season 2.

Here's what Adam Brody had to say about Pringles and Nobody Wants This (two of the most important things in my life, TBH).

Of course, the most pressing question I have after watching this ad is whether we'll see Adam grow a mustache? "Yes," he tells Brit + Co over email. "When time permits, a mustache will be grown." Victory!

Now while the Pringles logo is incredibly recognizable, nothing's as tasty as their variety of flavors (while I'm a sour cream and onion gal, Adam prefers the original flavor), nor as fun as putting two chips in your mouth to make a duck beak. And considering Adam also adds his favorite Super Bowl snack is "fistfuls of guacamole," now I'm also craving a Pringles and guac combo. What can I say? I'm feeling adventurous.

Pringles

While Adam Brody's Pringles ad has instantly become an iconic Super Bowl commercial, fans everywhere are excited to see him onscreen again as Noah in Nobody Wants This season 2. And even though he "can’t say" what he's excited about in the upcoming episodes "because I literally don’t know," the actor does admit he's most excited for "the high jinks that I am sure will ensue."

Until then, I'll just be rewatching season 1 and continuing my first-watch of The O.C. — and maybe just maybe daydreaming about what Noah and Seth Cohen might do if they ever met? Unfortunately, this is a reunion Adam's not too sure about: "That’s too much Adam Brody for my taste."
