You’ve got your partner in crime and the dreamiest wedding venue, and now it’s time to find the gown you’ve always imagined. Wedding dress shopping is one of the first (and most fun!) wedding planning tasks you’ll check off your to-do list, but sometimes finding *the one* can feel a bit stressful. From who to bring with you and what to look for, there’s a lot to think about. We chatted with Chaviano Couture wedding expert and gown designer Annette Thurmon, who offered up advice on all things wedding dress shopping for your trip down the aisle. Scroll on to discover everything you need to know to find the perfect dress for your spring wedding!
What is your single best tip for a bride about to start shopping for her wedding gown this spring?
“My number one advice for brides is to choose something that is comfortable and makes you feel special on your wedding day. This is your and your groom’s magical moment, so try to not choose a dress just because it is trendy or in fashion at the moment.”
What helps brides the most while trying on dresses?
“Bring a good heel so you are standing straight and you can really get a feel for the gown. Also, try on gowns you might never try on! By that I mean different silhouettes — even ones you might never think you’d like. You might be surprised and fall in love with something you’d never usually wear. But most of all, just enjoy the moment.”
Any advice on the number of guests or what to bring?
“Go with your hair and makeup done — it will instantly make you feel better and more confident in the gown. Also, only bring two of your closest friends or family members. When you get everyone’s opinions involved, it’s hard to end up choosing what you love because you are basing your decisions on others.”
What are your favorite spring 2016 trends in bridal fashion?
“It seems like feathers are coming back in style, which is awesome. I also love the continued trend of lace. There are also some fun trends going on with crop tops and even pant suits that I’ve noticed and totally loved.”
