When it comes to spending money, we go all in on shoes. Feeling good on your feet is essential for comfort and style, and the right kicks can elevate your look on every level. Which is why we’re constantly following fabulous footwear. This week, we caught up with our very own B+C designer and fellow shoe junkie, Rebecca Fong. We love her because she’s an adorable badass — both in life and in style — and she expertly pairs new trends with old closet staples. The girl pretty much always looks absolutely en fuego, so we had to find out which wardrobe staple of hers gets the most attention.
We kicked it (!) around colorful SF and learned more about Fong’s personal aesthetic and style advice, and of course what wardrobe item she — and everyone else — is crazy about.
Brit + Co: What’s the one item that people are always asking about?
Rebecca Fong: My & Other Stories Patent Leather Ankle Boots ($195)!
B+C: How did you discover them?
RF: I studied abroad in Milan and I came across these beauties in & Other Stories toward the end of my stay. I had been searching for something special to bring back with me from my trip and these boots were calling my name. They actually didn’t have my size in the store, but I was so in love that I had my friends that were still living in Italy ship them back home to me!
B+C: What do you love about them specifically?
RF: I love the patent leather material and the heel height. I love that they are fun but also go with pretty much everything. They are so, so comfortable, and very easy to walk around town in.
B+C: How often do you wear them?
RF: I wear them pretty regularly, but I do like to save them for fun occasions like a friend’s party, or going out for a nice dinner.
B+C: What are some other go-to items and staples in your closet?
RF: I have a long, gray wool coat from Zara — it’s so cozy and can easily dress up a more casual outfit. It’s definitely my go-to on a cold day. I’m also very into my Blundstone boots. They’re a great all-weather boot that you can rock with yoga pants or wear with jeans.
B+C: What advice do you have for other gals who are trying to refine their personal style and find the perfect staple closet items?
RF: I think having a few signature staple items that you’re in love with is key. I try not to buy anything that I’m not 100 percent obsessed with — if I can live without it, I don’t buy it. For me, taking a more minimalist approach to my wardrobe has allowed me to invest more in pieces that I really dig.
