Everyone loves to go out to eat, but on top of securing a table, you’ve got to shell out a lot of time and cash. What if you could enjoy that restaurant meal in the comfort of your very own home? And we’re not talking about takeout or delivery. We’re talking about getting carefully curated meal kits weekly from the best restos in the area to make yourself (in under 20 minutes, may we add). Foodies, rejoice!
The founders of Foodzie came up with a seriously awesome new service called Forage. It delivers ingredients to your home that allow you to whip up restaurant-quality meals in under 20 minutes, which is the amount of time that the average person has to cook on a weeknight. Along with the fresh ingredients, you’ll also receive special pre-prepped ingredients and get access to recipes from notable restaurants in the area.
The main goal behind Forage is to help the home cooks prepare something like a restaurant would. And as we all know, prepping is what takes the longest amount of time. There’s the washing and the chopping and the peeling — and that’s just the vegetables. That’s why Forage is focused on mise en place. For those not fluent in foodie, mise en place is French for “putting in place,” or setting something up… but don’t expect pre-chopped onions and peppers. Partnered with notable chefs in San Francisco, Forage will give you ingredients that would normally take a lot of time to make at home. For example, fresh ramen noodles from Hapa Ramen, Greek marinated meats from Souvla, fresh pierogi dough from Alta. Along with these specialty items, you’ll get the rest of the ingredients to make the dish and the recipe (so you can whip it up again and again, duh).
Each kit is aimed to teach you a new cooking technique from a restaurant chef, and trust us: It’s easier, quicker and cheaper than going to culinary school. Forage is for the home cook who loves food, but doesn’t have hours to spare, slaving in the kitchen. It’s for the amateur chef who is trying to improve his or her cooking skills. It’s for the foodies who know how to whip up a good meal but are looking to expand their horizons.
The subscription service costs $60 per week and includes four credits, where each credit is equivalent to one serving. Essentially, that’s $15 a person for a restaurant meal (and you don’t even have to tip your server!). So if you live alone, that’s four meals a week and if you share with a roomie or an S.O., you’re covered with five-star cuisine two nights a week.
Each week, you’ll get a new menu of six available dishes to choose from, featuring a specific cuisine or theme. The menu will offer four meat and seafood based dishes and two for vegetarians. Then, you choose what you want.
Forage will open to the public in the fall, but if you go to their website you can sign up for early access. But take note, the service will only deliver their meal kits in California… but they have big plans to expand nationally very soon (woohoo!).
