Here’s What Happened When I Saw a Game of Thrones Musical

As great as the most recent finale of Game of Thrones was, the rolling of those final credits was met with a tinge of pain. No Westeros for a YEAR?! It’s a hard reality to swallow. If you’re looking for a way to get your GOT fix and you’ve already watched all the episodes 10 times over, we come bearing great news: a Game of Thrones musical parody exists — and it’s actually a hoot.

1. Everyone HATES the one dude who won’t stop talking about how he read all the books. We all have that one friend who thinks he’s better than everyone else for reading the books, so this is obviously VERY relatable. There’s no major villain in the musical, but if I had to pick one, it’d be this guy.

2. The red wedding has been turned into a rap number. The song is called “Stabbings” and it’s probably the happiest you’ll ever be when thinking about the infamous scene.

3. Jon Snow and Ygritte have a romantic ballad. Well, it’s kind of romantic, if Jon singing about all the “stuff he knows” is the epitome of romance to you — which, hey, it could very well be.

4. Donald Trump makes surprise pop-up appearances throughout the show. During a number that takes place at The Wall, Donald starts chatting about how he’s going to “make the Wildlings pay for the wall,” and (spoiler alert!) during Ygritte and Jon’s number, he stabs her because: “No immigrants.” #makewesterosgreatagain

5. There’s a musical number dedicated to all your fan fiction endings. In it Jon Snow and Khaleesi obviously end up together and Harry Potter joins in on the battle against the White Walkers.

6. Hodor has a very dramatic solo. It’s a capella and yes, the lyrics consist of more than the word “Hodor.”

There are literally thousands of shows happening at the Fringe Festival, so what you see is always a bit of a gamble. I wasn’t totally sure what to expect from this production, but, TBH, I laughed the whole time, as did the rest of the audience. The show is produced by Baby Wants Candy, an improv troupe based out of Chicago (worth noting that this particular show is scripted). This is the second year Thrones! has been on the Fringe program.

While last year’s run and this year’s run are similar, the 2016 version has been updated with nods to season six (like the Hodor number). If you can’t make it to Edinburgh within the next few weeks (I mean, it’s kind of far… I get it), the show is also currently playing stateside in Chicago at the Apollo Theatre. Additionally, one of the show’s producers, Albert Samuels, told us there is also talk of a US and international tour happening for the parody play. You can bet we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for that.

SNL season 49 had some seriously memorable moments (the unhinged Scooby Doo sketch with Jake Gyllenhaal and Sabrina Carpenter lives rent free in my mind). And this year, we're coming up on a huge moment for the series: its 50th season. SNL season 50 is sure to be memorable, and if you ask me, there's one person that would make the perfect host and musical guest: Taylor Swift. And it's not too late!

Here's everything you need to know about the SNL season 50 hosts & musical guests for 2024 and 2025.

Who is hosting the SNL premiere?

Jake Giles Netter/Max

Check the full list of the hosts and musical guests for SNL season 50 below:

How can I get SNL season 50 tickets?

Chloe Williams/Brit + Co

Brit + Co entertainment editor Chloe Williams has seen SNL multiple times — and it all comes down to mastering the lottery. Reservations for each week's Saturday Night Live virtual standby lineopen at 10 am EST the Thursday before a show. We recommend getting on the page at least five minutes beforehand because as soon as the reservation opens up, you have to move quickly. Check out our SNL ticket guide for more info!

Who is Domingo from SNL?

Will Heath/NBC

Domingo became SNL season 50's hit sketch, and features fan favorite Marcello Hernández as a flirty, musical man who's ready to serenade you at any moment. He crashed a Bridesmaid's speech, a baby moon, and even Sabrina Carpenter's Short 'N Sweet tour! "Came all this way, had to explain, direct from Domingo!"

When is SNL season 50 premiering?

Will Heath/NBC

SNL Season 50 Release Date

SNL season 50 premiered on NBC Saturday September 28, 2024. This is the first time since 2020 that Saturday Night Live has premiered in September instead of October, and we're not mad about it! The final episode of 2024 is coming on December 21, 2024.

Who is playing Kamala Harris on SNL season 50?

NBC/Andrew Harnik/Getty Images

Maya Rudolph returned to SNL season 50 as Vice President Kamala Harris following the announcement that Harris is running for President. This role, which won Rudolph the 2020 Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, has already led to plenty of viral moments — especially when VP Harris showed up on the show.

Is Taylor Swift hosting Saturday Night Live season 50?

Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images

While we haven't gotten an official update on whether Taylor Swift will join this season's SNL hosts, I'm hoping she will! She's already appeared on the show a number of times in a number of roles. She's hosted, made guest appearances, and been musical guest. And if you ask me, after a record-breaking Eras Tour, a special season like SNL50 is the perfect time for Taylor to reappear.

Pairing up Sabrina Carpenter (an Eras Tour opener) and Jake Gyllenhaal (one of Taylor Swift's ex-boyfriends) for the SNL49 finale feels like the kind of Easter egg Taylor herself would orchestrate!

Will there be an SNL 50th anniversary?

Will Heath/NBC

Yes, in addition to SNL season 50, we're getting an anniversary special! The 3-hour special will premiere February 16, 2025.

Who has hosted SNL the most?

Will Heath/NBC

Actor Alec Baldwin has hosted Saturday Night Live a total of 17 times.

What year was season 45 of SNL?

Will Heath/NBC

SNL season 45 ran from 2019 to 2020. Host Woody Harrelson and musical guest Billie Eilish opened the season, while host Kristen Wiig and musical guest Boyz II Men were apart of the finale.

It’s pretty common for celebrities to go by a stage name or a different moniker entirely when they’re trying to break into showbiz. Take musicians for example. Before the world knew her as Rihanna, everyone in her life simply knew as Robyn Rihanna Fenty. And the same goes for actors as well. Did you know that The Office alum Mindy Kaling was born Vera Mindy Chokalingam?(Yeah, I was today years old when I learned that.) Even certain members of the British royal family have chosen not to go by their first name, given their high profile status. What if I told you Kate Middleton’s full name is Catherine Elizabeth Middleton? I know right, shocker!

Keep reading to learn more about the 22 celebrities who don’t actually go by their real name — and the reason why.

1. Emma Stone

Mike Coppola/Getty Images

Real Name: Emily Jean Stone

Back when Easy A alum Emma Stone was trying to break into the industry as an actress, she chose to go by a different name because there was already a person with the same moniker in the SAG.

So, in a 2017 interview with W Magazine, the Poor Things star shared that she wanted to go by Emily J. Stone, but decided against it. “So to ask a 16-year-old to pick a new name is really an interesting process, because I was like, ‘I’m going to be Riley’... And so my name was Riley Stone for about six months,” she told the publication at the time. “I changed it to Emma because you know it’s closer to Emily, but most people call me ‘M,’ that know me well.” Honestly, I think you could've pulled off the J, Emma.

2. Lady Gaga

Monica Schipper/Getty Images

Real Name: Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta

Turns out, the Bad Romance singer wasn’t gaga for her real name when she decided to break into Hollywood. Before entering the music industry, Germanotta chose her stage name “Lady Gaga” after she was apparently inspired by the 1984 Queen single “Radio Gaga.” Huh, who would’ve thought?

3. The Weeknd

Wagner Meier/Getty Images for Live Nation

Real Name: Abel Makkonen Tesfaye

Years before the world knew him as “The Weeknd,” Tesfaye chose his professional name when he left home at a young age. During a Reddit Ask Me Anything segment, the singer revealed, "I left home when I was about 17 dropped out of high school and convinced [my friend] Lamar to do the same.”

He continued, “We grabbed our mattresses from our parents threw it in our friends sh—ty van and left one weekend and never came back home. It was gonna be the title of HOB [House of Balloons]. I hated my name at the time though so I tried it as a stage name. It sounded cool. I took out the “e” because there was already a Canadian band named the weekend (copyright issues).”

4. Gigi Hadid

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue

Real Name: Jelena Hadid

In case you didn’t know, the proud mom went by “Gigi” early on in her childhood. (FYI: Gigi was also her mom’s childhood nickname too.) But in a 2015 interview with Vogue, Hadid shared that everyone started calling her “Gigi” once she started grad school.

“In first or second grade, there was a girl named Helena and it got confusing with the teacher who had to call out our names, and so the teacher asked my mom, ‘If I needed to call Jelena a nickname, what would it be?’ And my mom was like, ‘I call her Gigi sometimes,’ and the name stuck,” the supermodel explained at the time.

5. Meghan Markle

Tommaso Boddi/Getty Images

Real Name: Rachel Meghan Markle

Before she became the Duchess of Sussex, Markle simply went by her first name: Rachel. But now, she goes by her middle name professionally. Markle is rarely addressed by her first name in public. However, an exception was made in 2018 when The Sun reported that the late Queen Elizabeth II blessed Markle’s marriage with now husband Prince Harry and addressed the duchess by her full name.

6. Brad Pitt

Julien M. Hekimian/Getty Images

Real Name: William Bradley Pitt

Apparently, Brad Pitt is another celebrity who likes going by his middle name. But, according to Page Six, the longtime actor actually prefers introducing himself by his first name when he’s flirting with women.

7. Marilyn Monroe

Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images

Real Name: Norma Jeane Mortenson

We're throwing it back with this celebrity name! Fun fact: Mortenson took the name Dougherty after her first marriage. But how did she come up with the name we're all so familiar with? Per Time, the beloved actress chose to say goodbye to her last name after a 20th Century Fox studio executive thought that there would be too many mispronunciations with her last name. So, she decided to drop her last name in exchange for her mom’s maiden name: Monroe. In addition, the exec gave her the name “Marilyn” because she reminded him of a 1920s Broadway star named Marilyn Miller.

8. Reese Witherspoon

Theo Wargo/Getty Images

Real Name: Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon

Speaking of Jeane's, did you know Reese Witherspoon's name is actually Laura Jeanne? Yup, according to Vogue, the Legally Blonde star took on her mom’s maiden name early on in her career and the moniker Reese Witherspoon was born. It's also why she only calls Big Little Lies costar Laura Dern "Dern."

9. Natalie Portman

Arturo Holmes/Getty Images

Real Name: Neta-Lee Hershlag

Originally, Portman was given a traditional Hebrew name before immigrating to the United States in 1984, where her family changed their surname to Portman. Then, the actress’s first name, Neta-Lee (which was her maternal grandmother’s maiden name) later became Natalie.

10. Cardi B

Catherine Powell/Getty Images for MTV

Real Name: Belcalis Almanzar

Though everyone knows her as Cardi B, her diehard fans can attest to the fact she was given a different name at birth. Born Belcalis Almanzar, her stage name is actually short for Bacardi (you know, like the rum). While appearing on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the rapper shared the origin of her pseudonym.

“My sister's name is Hennessy,” the rapper told Fallon. “So everyone used to call me Bacardi, and I started calling myself Bacardi, which eventually was shortened to Cardi B.”

11. Chloe Bennet

Rodin Eckenroth/Getty Images

Real Name: Chloe Wong

While promoting her new show Interior Chinatown, Chloe Bennet sat down with Brit + Co and shared why she felt the need to go by a different name than what she was given at birth, which is Chloe Wong. “Early on in my career, my mixed race seemed to be so much more of a thing than I ever understood it as growing up,” the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D alum explained. “I come from a very diverse household and my dad is Chinese. I think I felt more Chinese than what the world perceived me as and that was a weird concept for me.”

The 32-year-old actress went on to share how she changed her surname to Bennet (aka her father’s name) on her resume and she started booking more roles. “I am still not Chloe Bennet. I am Chloe Wong,” she says in the interview.

12. Kit Harington

Amy Sussman/Getty Images for AFI

Real Name: Christopher Catesby Harington

Many of us are taught how to pronounce our given name from a very young age. But for Kit Harington, the Game of Thrones star wasn’t told his first name until he was 11 years old. In a 2014 interview with Glamour, the British actor explained how his parents refrained from telling his real name because “they could see that I wanted to be Kit, but Christopher was a bit of a tradition.”

He continued, "My brother’s name is Jack, but his real name is John. Kit is traditionally an offshoot of Christopher, it’s just not used that often. My middle name is Catesby.”

13. Jamie Foxx

Joe Maher/Getty Images

Real Name: Eric Marlon Bishop

Did you know Eric Marlon Bishop chose his stage name “Jamie Foxx” when he first started doing stand up? Back in 2015, Foxx sat down with David Letterman and explained how he tried aiming for a “unisex name” when it came time for him to choose a professional alias.

“I noticed that like 1,000 guys showed up and only three girls, but the three girls would always get a spot,” the singer and actor revealed when recounting the time he signed up for a slot in the standup lineup. “So I went to the list and wrote down a unisex name…Jamie Foxx.” And it looks like the name just stuck.

14. Lana Del Ray

Rebecca Sapp/Getty Images for The Recording Academy

Real Name: Elizabeth Woolridge Grant

Until the age of 25, Lizzy (aka Elizabeth) Grant reinvented herself and took on a new name when she tried breaking into the music biz—and that’s how Lana Del Rey came to be. According to The Guardian, she not only changed her name, but her entire persona and image. #Iconic

15. Bruno Mars

Bryan Steffy/Getty Images for Keep Memory Alive

Real Name: Peter Gene Hernandez

Before he caught a grenade for us, the Finesse singer was called Bruno by his family because, when he was a baby, he resembled the professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino. But when it came to his last name, the Hawaiian-born musician thought it would be best to drop it and adopt the Mars surname. “Your last name’s Hernandez, maybe you should do this Latin music, this Spanish music...Enrique's so hot right now,” he jokes in a 2013 interview with GQ.

16. Lucy Hale

Mike Coppola/Getty Images for Tribeca Festival

Real Name: Karen Lucille Hale

Lucy Hale has a secret…her full name is Karen Lucille Hale. As it turns out, the Pretty Little Liarsalum decided to ditch her first name and go by the nickname of her middle name: Lucy.

17. Demi Moore

Tim P. Whitby/Getty Images for Paramount+

Real Name: Demetria Guynes

Long before she starred in The Substance, the longtime actress (born Demetria Guynes) tied the knot with rock star Freddy Moore at the age of 17 and took his last name. Though the marriage ended after four-and-a-half years, she’s been known as Demi Moore ever since.

18. John Legend

Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images for The Recording Academy

Real Name: John Roger Stephens

Tonight’s the night that…you’re going to learn how John Legend got his stage name! In a 2008 interview with MTV News (via People), the EGOT winner shared the story behind how he came up with his professional name. “John Legend is a nickname that some friends started calling me, and it kind of grew into my stage name,” he said at the time. “‘Legend’ is something that I never would have chosen for myself originally. It grew to the point where more people in my circle would know me by that name than by my real name.”

19. Miley Cyrus

Neilson Barnard/Getty Images for The Recording Academy

Real Name: Destiny Hope Cyrus

Don’t worry, Destiny Hope Cyrus can buy herself flowers! As it turns out, the Grammy-award winner’s stage name dates back to her childhood, when her family would call her “Smiley,” which ultimately turned into “Miley.” And the rest is history.

20. Halsey

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images

Real Name: Ashley Frangipane

Turns out, Halsey’s stage name is not anagram of her first name, Ashley. Back in 2015, the singer sat down with VEVO and revealed that she was inspired by Halsey Street in Brooklyn, where she would spend weekends making music with her friend.

21. Meg Ryan

Kevin Winter/Getty Images

Real Name: Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra

Apparently "Meg Ryan Fall" isn't a totally accurate moniker because Meg's real name is Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra! Meg is a common nickname for Margaret, but she got Ryan from her maternal grandmother's maiden name.

22. Nina Dobrev

Francois Durand/Getty Images

Real Name: Nikolina Kamenova Dobreva

Originally born Nikolina in Bulgaria, our favorite Vampire Diaries star (and recent fiancée!) adopted "Nina" for her stage name because she reportedly figured it would be easier for fans to remember.

Following in the footsteps of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid, there's a new live Disney movie in the works: a live-action Snow White! The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actress Rachel Zegler stars as Snow White in the new iteration, and this weekend, we got the first official look at the film!

Snow White has faced plenty of controversy this year, from the actors' comments to the costumes to the rest of the cast, but I'm actually excited for it. I'll see any story that places women at the forefront!!

Here's everything you need to know about the new live action Snow White, coming in 2025.

Is there a Snow White trailer?

Well, yes, the Snow White trailer is here! And I can't stop watching. Rachel Zegler's vocals, Gal Gadot's mystery, and the handsome Jonathan. Because, FYI, Rachel clarified that the movie WILL feature romance, telling Variety that "I would never want to box someone in and say, ‘If you want love, then you can’t work.’ Or ‘If you want to work, then you can’t have a family.’ It’s not true. It’s never been true."

"The love story is very integral," she continues. "A lot of people wrote that we weren’t doing [the romance] anymore — we were always doing that; it just wasn’t what we were talking about on that day."

I have had "Waiting on a Wish" (the new song by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul Rachel sings in the trailer) stuck in my head since I first heard it, and I CANNOT get enough. The vibrato on "meant" just scratches an itch in my brain!

What else has Rachel said about the movie?

Rodin Eckenroth/Getty Images for Disney

Like the live-action Disney movies before it, the new Snow White teaser trailer shows off a variety of shots you know and love from the original 1937 movie. But there's also a hint of modern edge that I'm excited to see in the final film. While the cartoon Snow White is pure sweetness, Rachel Zegler adds a touch of sass, spunk, and determination. I have no doubt she'll be able to bring the iconic princess into the modern age without sacrificing the goodness we love in the original character!

But as much as I love seeing Rachel Zegler in this starring role, I was not expecting the entire movie to look so CGI. The live-action Cinderella was successful aesthetically because it used so many practical elements, but so far, the Snow White visuals — from the animals to the dwarves to the cottage — seem a little hazy.

However some people are taking their critiques wayyyy too far and sending Zegler literal death threats. "fun fact i will be dying eight times a week on broadway this fall!!!!!" she says in response to a now-deleted tweet. "get your tickets, lee! also @fbi." You can see Zegler star in Romeo + Juliet opposite Kit Connor.

When is the live-action Snow White coming out?

Disney

Snow White Release Date

Snow White hits theaters on March 21, 2025! Check out the rest of the Most-Anticipated 2025 Movies you can watch next year. The lineup is already amazing.

What is the new Snow White movie about?

Disney

Snow White Plot

Based on the 1937 animated Disney movie, the 2025 Snow White will follow a similar plot, but it looks like it'll focus more on the princess becoming a leader than the OG movie. Rachel Zegler went viral for her comments on how the film would change the original story. "We absolutely wrote a Snow White [that's] not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love," Rachel says in a clip from D23 in 2022. "She’s going to be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true.”

Many internet users didn't like how Rachel phrased her problem with the original story, claiming that telling women they have to choose between falling in love and leadership is inherently anti-feminist. "No but she could fall in love AND be a leader at the same time," one TikTok user commented.

However, the extreme backlash to Rachel's comments was put in a new light after Priscilla star Jacob Elordi (who plays Elvis Presley) joked he didn't know much about Elvis except what he learned on Lilo & Stitch.

"Okay but when Rachel Zegler says she wasn’t a fan of the original Snow White (a cartoon btw), and only revisited it for her role as Snow White, she’s 'entitled' and a brat," one user wrote on X. "This just confirms Rachel Zegler hate is literally just misogyny." Say it louder for the people in the back!

Who else is in the cast of Snow White?

Disney

Snow White Cast

Gal Gadot will star as the Evil Queen opposite Rachel Zegler's Snow White. We'll also see Andrew Burnap as Jonathan (in place of the original film's Prince) and Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman.

I love that Rachel is starring as Snow White because she has always captured goodness and integrity without becoming harsh, which is a true feat. And director Marc Webb feels the same way. "[She] has an inherent grace, poise and goodness that reminds me so much of what is essential to Snow White," he told Variety.

Will Snow White be a musical?

Disney

Yes, Snow White is going to be a musical, just like the original film! In addition to original songs like "Whistle While You Work," La La Land and The Greatest Showman writers Pasek and Paul (who also added a couple of new songs to the 2019 Aladdin) wrote some new tunes for the film.

How many dwarves does Snow White have?

Disney

In the original film, Snow White meets seven dwarves: Doc, Bashful, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey, Happy, and Sleepy. After actor Peter Dinklage expressed his anger over the new story ("You're still making that f—king backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f—k are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soap box? I guess I'm not loud enough," he said in an episode of Marc Maron's WTF podcast), Disney released a statement to Good Morning America saying they were changing the original story.

"To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community," a Disney spokesperson said. "We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period."

However, the movie's first look clearly shows Rachel Zegler's Snow White surrounded by seven dwarfs, and honestly, we're even more confused than we were before about how Disney has updated the story, if at all.

What is the original dark story of Snow White?

Disney

In the original Grimm's Fairytales Snow White, the princess avoids even more brushes with death than she does in the Disney version. In addition to the poison apple, the queen also tries to suffocate her with too-tight bodice laces, as well as a poison comb through her hair.

I've been trying all year to get SNL tickets, and I finally got to sit in on an episode of SNL season 49 for the first time the weekend of February 3! I was super excited for this episode of Saturday Night Live because Ayo Edebiri was the host and I'm a huge fan of The Bear. So I knew if I wanted my shot at getting an SNL standby ticket, I had to really work for it! Because of the demand, Saturday Night Live tickets in 2024 can be hard to get, which is exactly why I've laid out how I got my standby tickets and how you can get yours!

Here's exactly how you can get SNL season 50 tickets to see your favorite celebs for yourself.

How do you get tickets for Saturday Night Live?

Chloe Williams/Brit + Co

The process for getting SNL tickets isn't as complicated as you might think. Unfortunately the SNL ticket lottery closes at the end of August, but once it opens back up, all you have to do is email SNLTICKETS@NBCUNI.COM with your full name, email address, and why you want to be in the audience. Every household gets one ticket request.

If you don't receive a ticket, or you want to go multiple times, opt for the standby line! When it comes to these SNL tickets, you can use the standby portal to try and get a spot in a taping. Reservations for the Saturday Night Live virtual standby line open at 10 am EST the Thursday before a show, and it's super important to be on the page at least five minutes beforehand. As soon as the clock strikes 10 and the reservation opens up, you have to move quickly to claim a spot.

If you're successful, you'll get an email confirmation (and later your SNL standby number for the in-person line). If it sells out before you can get a ticket, you'll have to try again next week. The February 3 show was my third or fourth attempt, so don't lose hope!

How long is the wait for SNL tickets?

Chloe Williams/Brit + Co

Your wait for SNL tickets totally depends on your standby number. (I will point out that I got SNL tickets to the dress rehearsal, so my experience will be tailored towards that performance!). After confirmation emails are sent out Thursday, everyone has to be in line and checked in Friday night by 6:30 pm. This is where the waiting comes into play because they don't hand out the physical standby cards until 12:01 am on Saturday morning!

Honestly, the wait wasn't as bad as it could have been because before the online portal, you had to wait in line (without a pre-approved number) all night long! It was cold, but I was with a friend and NBC gave out tomato soup and hot chocolate, so honestly, I had a great time. I made some friends in line, and we were allowed to go into NBC studios periodically to walk around or go to the bathroom.

The last two hours were definitely the hardest, but once they started handing out SNL standby cards, it flew by! I was originally number 16, but since some people didn't show up, I got bumped up to 12. I'm super lucky that I was so close to the front; I was in a cab by 12:30 am and in bed by 1:30 am.

How many SNL standby tickets are there?

Chloe Williams/Brit + Co

In the standby line, I was surrounded by people who'd gotten SNL tickets multiple times, and it seems to be the general consensus that around the first 40 people always get in. The line for standby cards was definitely over 100 people, but I'm not sure more than 60 made it all the way through to the show. How many people get into SNL standby really depends on how many regular audience members don't show up, so the number will change.

I wore jeans, a hoodie, and sneakers to wait in line so I'd be comfortable, but for the actual dress rehearsal, I wore a sweater, purple trousers, and black Chelsea boots. I also had some fun with my makeup and added some purple eyeshadow to my bottom lash line! I ended up being a little too warm in my coat (I definitely didn't need it in the studio), so if I could change one thing, I'd have worn a lighter coat that was easier to carry.

When is the Saturday Night Live dress rehearsal?

Will Heath/NBC

For the Saturday Night Live dress rehearsal on Saturday, we had to be checked into the NBC Studios store by 6:30 pm. Once we were all lined up in numerical order, it got a little tricky because they moved us in groups of ten through security, into a room, and up the stairs. This whole process took about an hour and a half because of how many people there were. But once we got upstairs and into the elevators, it was a quick shot up into the studio and into our seats!

Another important thing I'll point out: through no fault of anyone, we ended up getting jumbled in the elevator, which meant I got pushed back to number 18 instead of number 12, and got a worse seat. It was still a good view, but it was admittedly not as good as it could have been.

What happens during the SNL dress rehearsal?

Will Heath/NBC

Once we were seated, the party began! This was definitely the coolest part of the whole experience, but not in the way I expected. I loved seeing Ayo Edebiri (especially since we could see her before she came on camera) and Jennifer Lopez, but my favorite part was how the whole crew worked together. As soon as the show had a commercial break, everyone was rearranging the sets and moving cameras.

I spent the better part of a decade doing theater, and have so much respect for all the crew members who put this show on every single week! It felt like there was a role for everything: someone held a flashlight the whole night, the hair and makeup artists made sure the cast looked perfect, and there was even a designated employee who grabbed Ayo's hand and ran her offstage for her quick change every. Single. Time.

The biggest different between SNL dress rehearsal and the live show is that we got to see about 45 minutes of extra content! The dress rehearsal is the actors' and writers' chance to see what an audience resonates with. Our version of the Weekend Update featured a lot of banter about which bits landed and which ones should have gotten more laughs, and overall, the energy in the room felt just a bit more relaxed.

The most memorable skits were the Dune 2 popcorn bucket pre-tape, where Ayo Edebiri and Marcello Hernandez sang about wanting to lose their virginity to the unfortunately-designed merch (which went viral last week), and the School Hypnotist sketch, which was the absolute best use of Ayo's stage presence. Overall, I really enjoyed getting to see the SNL dress rehearsal, and I'm definitely going to put in for more SNL tickets throughout the rest of the season!
