12 'Gilmore Girls Fall' Activities As Perfect As Luke's Coffee

gilmore girls fall guide

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life might feature all four seasons, but that doesn't change the fact that Gilmore Girls simply is fall. As soon as we hear those first "La-Las," we're transported right into the chilliest, most beautiful October day. Some pop culture fans prefer the cosmopolitan '90s aesthetic of Meg Ryan Fall, while others lean more into the Tim Burton of it all ahead of Halloween. But us? We're die-hard Gilmore Girls Fall fans. Here are all the ways you can live like Rory and Lorelai this autumn.

Watch The Best 'Gilmore Girls' Fall Episodes

Warner Bros. Television

First and foremost, the best way to have a Gilmore Girls fall is to rewatch all your favorite autumn episodes from the series. As Lorelai and Rory themselves say about The Donna Reed Show: "It's a lifestyle. It's a religion."

There are plenty to pick from (22 at least), but my favorite will always be the episode where Rory and Lorelai go to four separate Thanksgiving dinners, and manage to eat a ton of food at every single one. But considering the cozy spirit of the show is perfectly captured in the pilot, that episode is always a good idea, too.

Grab Some Cozy Fall Decor

Target

If you're looking to outfit your home with some brand new fall decor, look no further than these pieces from Target. They're quirky, they're cozy, and they're exactly the kind of things Rory and Lorelai would obsess over. I mean, tell me a 2024 version of Rory wouldn't put this fall floral cloche in her office!

Grab A Dragonfly Inn-cense Burner

Ajouter Store/Warner Bros. Television

Speaking of decor, I simply cannot get over this Dragonfly Inn incense burner. When I said you could add some Gilmore Girls magic into your life, I meant it. You can also choose a burner that looks like a mug of Luke's coffee, and I can't decide which one I love more.

Plan An Epic 'Gilmore Girls' (Stars) Hallow-een Group Costume

Brit + Co

Halloween is coming up fast, and if you're still in need of a costume, choose one of these super easy (and recognizable) TV characters. You probably have a lot of these pieces in your closet already, and if not, a quick trip to a thrift store or Target will help you out.

Channel Your Inner Rory Gilmore With A White Cable Knit Sweater

Warner Bros. Television

If you already have your Halloween costume planned out (anyone else going as Glinda from the new Wicked movie?), then add Rory's iconic white sweater into your fall wardrobe. It goes with literally everything: trousers, denim skirt, jeans, leather skirt. The sky's the limit!

Watch One Of These Cozy Comfort Movies For 'Gilmore Girls' Fans

Searchlight Pictures/Hulu

During Gilmore Girls Fall, movie night needs to be all about those warm and fuzzy feelings. Any rom-com or fall movie that leaves you feeling happier at the end than when you pressed play is the way to go here. Rye Lane and Elizabethtown are some of my favorite picks.

...Or Pick A Heartwarming TV Show

The CW

One thing that always helps keep me unwind is watching an episode of a favorite TV show. Whether it's during my lunch break or before bed, tuning into a story for 30 to 45 minutes is the perfect way to give my brain a break, especially when I've had a long day.

Pick Up Some Fall Books

Amazon

But if you're more of a book lover, you might opt for any of these novels. Keeping a book with you at all times is so Rory-coded (remember the book she brought to her dance in season 1?), and these are all great additions to your personal library. The central themes? Family, romance, and small town living. (Hm, that sounds familiar).

Whip Up Some Delicious 'Gilmore Girls' Recipes

Warner Bros. Television

Rory and Lorelai manage to eat their way through giant pizzas and sugary cereal (plus a burger, donut, popcorn and Red Vines) without any problem. Every episode of Gilmore Girls makes us hungrier than the last, and these recipes will satisfy all your cravings. Rory and Lorelai would never cook them, but they'd definitely eat them.

Put Together A DIY Coffee Bar

Brit + Co

Delicious coffee is already a must-have all autumn long, but the only thing that's better than sipping a fall coffee drink is putting together a fall coffee bar. It looks super cute and keeps all your coffee essentials in one place. And the next time you host a Gilmore Girls watch party, your guests will feel like they're at Luke's!

Travel To See The Best Fall Foliage

Shutterstock

The move from pastel flowers in the spring and greenery in the summer to fall's crisp and vibrant leaves really gets us in the mood for every pumpkin spice latte we can get our hands on. Living in Connecticut, Rory and Lorelai are surrounded by the most beautiful fall scenes, so Gilmore Girls Fall definitely warrants a roadtrip. Stowe, Vermont, Newport, Rhode Island, and Washington, Connecticut are all great places to explore!

Stock Up On Some 'Gilmore Girls' Gifts

Transport yourself right to Stars Hollow with these awesome Gilmore Girls gifts. They're the perfect addition to your closet, your mug cabinet, or your decor and cover all kinds of aesthetics. That means there's something for everyone. I'm eyeing that Fall Festival art print!

As a Bridgerton fangirl, I definitely squealed when I learned Jonathan Bailey (who plays Anthony on the Netflix series) had joined the Wicked movie as the dancing-through-life, suave Fiyero. Have you HEARD him sing "If I Didn't Believe In You" from The Last Five Years?! Well, Jonathan himself revealed that he actually isn't the only Bridgerton star making an appearance in Wicked — and since I totally missed this cameo, there's a chance you did too.

Keep reading for the surprising Bridgerton cameo you'll see in Wicked.

  • The world fell in love with Jonathan Bailey when he played Anthony Bridgerton on Bridgerton.
  • Bridgerton fans were also super excited to see him as Fiyero in Wicked.
  • But Jonathan isn't the only Bridgerton cast member to make an appearance in the movie.

You're probably running through the whole Bridgerton cast in your mind — Luke Thompson, Luke Newton, Nicola Coughlan, Claudia Jessie, — but Jonathan Bailey is actually joined by his horse Jack! Considering how surprised I was when I learned this, you probably didn't see it coming either, did you?

“I went around to see [Wicked director] Jon Chubefore we started filming, and I said to him, I said, ‘I think I know who the horse is.’ And he was like, ‘What do you mean?’" Jonathan Bailey said in an official Wicked video. “It's Jack, the horse that I'd ridden in Bridgerton, who I had an amazing relationship with.”

In the clip, you can see Jonathan leading Jack onto the Shiz University set, and riding through the forest. “People say don't work with kids and animals," he continues. "But if it's Jack, I'd say, ‘Take the job. He's a legend.’”

Well, Jonathan and Jack weren't the only Wicked cast members who got along swimmingly. Ethan Slater told Brit + Co that Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo immediately made the cast feel like a family.

"[They] would hug everyone who came in," Ethan says. "The first day I think every actor had a minimum two-hour meeting with Jon just to walk through all of the designs and all the things and talk about character. And so from from the very beginning, it just felt like it's really safe...This huge movie is something that we've been waiting for for 20 years on a big scale with the biggest stars in the world, it could have felt really intimidating and it felt really familial immediately."

And TBH, it totally translates onscreen!

Anthropologie

Bardot Adoni Off-The-Shoulder Fitted Stretch Lace Midi Dress

I know, I know — it's controversial to wear red to a wedding. But truly, I've never in my life heard that rule until recently, so it can't matter that much, right? I'll let you decide that for yourself, but while you're thinking about it...look at how gorgeous this off-the-shoulder number is!

Azazie

Azazie Atelier Bellini Grape Jacquard Satin Maxi Dress

I adore this deep, rich eggplant color SO much. It goes so well with this high neckline and jacquard fabric, absolutely emanating elegance. This looks fantastic with strappy gold sandals (like above), but I could also see this looking amazing with some pointed toe velvet pumps.

You'll definitely wanna dance the night away in this look!

Free People

Elliatt Calypso Dress

Looking for a shorter winter wedding guest dress? This Elliatt option is stunning! The body of the dress itself is really quite simple, letting the statement bow on the back do all the heavy (and very stylish) lifting for your look. I'd pair this with an Audrey Hepburn-esque updo and some pointed black pumps!

Azazie

Azazie Atelier Sara Marigold Maxi Dress

Let this marigold dress light up the room at the next wedding you're invited to! Like I said before, winter doesn't me you can't wear color! This shade is just bright enough to make a statement, but just earthy enough to be perfect for the season. The pleats and the buttoned, ballooned sleeves are just gorgeous here too!

Anthropologie

By Anthropologie The Maya Ruched Cowl-Neck Dress: Stretch Velvet Edition

I seriously just love a high neckline! There's something about it that screams class (but a distinguished, polite scream of course 😉), which is totally what you're going for with your winter wedding guest dress. I also love how the stretch velvet will give you the space to sit, eat, and dance comfortably all night long — exactly what you need for a festive wedding eventing!

This sleek design would look gorgeous on anyone, and the A line silhouette gives you plenty of room to hit the dance floor all you want!

Tuckernuck

Tuckernuck Black Clea Dress

She's giving Audrey Hepburn! She's giving Grace Kelly! She's giving EVERYTHING! Seriously, this neckline is incredible, this length is lovely, and the dress itself is the perfect canvas to make your own. Add some fun jewelry, grab a fun shoe, and let your hair down for an evening — in the most elevated way possible.

Anthropologie

Mac Duggal Sleeveless Rhinestone Flower Crepe A-Line Mini Dress

In case you're looking for another shorter option, I love this Mac Duggal dress! The flower on the hip is so unique, yet it's giving a timeless charm that would look amazing on anyone! I could totally see this with some stunning red tights, an updo, and some statement earrings.

There are some casting decisions that feel like they're written in the stars. Margot Robbie as Barbie, Lola Tung as The Summer I Turned Pretty's Belly, and Pedro Pascal as Joel in The Last of Us definitely make the list. What I never expected, however, was for Pedro Pascal to be in talks to join two of my other fave actors in a rom-com! (The other two actors are Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans, in case you're wondering). If you're as excited for this new movie as I am but don't know much about it, don't worry — I've done all the research so that you don't have to.

Here's everything we know about director Celine Song's new movie Materialists!

Here's Your First Official Look At Chris Evans & Dakota Johnson In 'Materialists'

Vanity Fair just dropped a first look at a ton of new films coming next year, but the one I was most excited to see is, of course, Materialists. In the first look we can see Celine Song and Chris Evans standing outside a New York apartment while Dakota Johnson sits in a sundress and running shoes. I love that they're having a laugh on set, and that Dakota is totally zoned into whatever Chris is saying. Although, if he was standing in front of me, that's the look I'd have on my face too.

Who's in the Materialists cast?

Image via Emiliano Bar/Unsplash

Materialists stars Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans. We're still waiting to hear about the supporting cast members! I'd also love to know whether Celine Song will pull a Greta Gerwig (who frequently recasts her beloved actors) and include Past Lives' Greta Lee in the cast.

Dakota Johnson told us at the Tribeca premiere of Daddio how much she enjoyed working with Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans: "They're both big idiots and I love them."

Is the Materialists movie filming?

Images via @mickmicknyc

Yes, Materialists was filming in New York City as of April 2024, and it looks like they wrapped the first week of June! The first leaked videos from set (thanks to @mickmicknyc) look like they center on a wedding (which would make sense if Dakota's character is a matchmaker). Based on their costumes, my guess is Chris Evans plays the actor-waiter, while Pedro Pascal plays the new man in our leading lady's life. The Vampire Diaries, The Summer I Turned Pretty, Friday Night Lights — will the love triangles never cease?!

One thing I'm really excited about is the outfits because they're SO summery and SO New York. Floral blouses with peep toe heels! White button downs with jeans! Sundresses and sneakers! This might just influence my wardrobe for the foreseeable future.

When is Materialists coming out?

Image via Myke Simon/Unsplash

Materialists started filming in New York City during spring 2024, so we could see the movie in the summer or fall of 2025.

What is Materialists about?

Image via JC Olivera/Getty Images

While we don't have an official synopsis for Celine Song's follow up to Past Lives, it looks like Materialists follows a professional NYC matchmaker (likely played by Dakota Johnson), via Deadline. The matchmaker gets involved with a wealthy man, but realizes she can't shake her feelings for an actor-waiter from her past. Juicy! It's giving a little bit of It Ends With Us, it's giving a little bit of Playing With Matches. I'm totally here for it.

According to Merriam Webster, a materialist is someone who has a "preoccupation with or stress upon material rather than intellectual or spiritual things." This feels like an indication we'll see these characters have to figure out what's important to them, and whether they prioritize material things or relationships.

Did A24 produce Past Lives?

Image via A24

Yes, A24 helped produce Celine Song's directorial debut Past Lives (which she also wrote). Past Lives follows childhood friends Nora and Hae Sung, reconnect two decades after Nora's family leaves South Korea. The week they spend together in New York will bring up questions they've both been holding onto — about love, life, and destiny.

The film was met with rave reviews from both critics and the Brit + Co team, and remains one of the most beautiful contemporary films in recent years.

What else has Pedro Pascal been in?

Image via Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

While The Last of Us catapulted Pedro Pascal even MORE into mainstream media, he's starred in a variety of shows and movies over the last 20 years. He was in a 1999 episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and played the recurring role of Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones. Pedro Pascal joined the Star Wars universe with The Mandalorian in 2019, and was also in my personal favorite movie of 2022, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

In addition to Materialists, we'll see him in the MCU's Fantastic Four and Gladiator 2. I'd like to get his agent to schedule my entire life because those are some insanely impressive time management skills.

What has Chris Evans been in?

Image via Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images

You probably recognize Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America in Marvel Studios' superhero flicks, but he's also done a number of other movies, too (including the 2005 Fantastic Four, which is funny considering Pedro Pascal is in the new installment). Chris Evans has some great range, and is in everything from the wacky Scott Pilgrim vs. the World to the action-packed Snowpiercer to the mysterious Knives Out with Ana de Armas.

If you're a fan of romantic dramas and haven't seen Before We Go (which is also Chris' directorial debut), I totally recommend it. I've seen Chris in so many action movies that I loved how much space there is for the characters to get to know each other. Fingers crossed that we see the same in Materialists.

Where can I watch Dakota Johnson?

Image via Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

You can see Dakota Johnson in 2024's Madame Web, but you can also catch her in The Social Network, the Fifty Shades of Gray series, and two beloved YouTube videos: Dakota Johnson’s Favorite Comedian Isn’t Ellen and Inside Dakota Johnson's Serene Hollywood Home.

I also wholeheartedly recommend The Peanut Butter Falcon, which was written and directed by Outer Banks native Tyler Nilson alongside Michael Schwartz. The film follows a young man with Down syndrome who escapes an assisted living facility and becomes fast friends with a fisherman on the run as a social worker (played by Dakota) tries to track them.

I love a good edge-of-your-seat drama series featuring characters the world loves to hate — I'm looking at you, Succession. But there are some shows whose boundaries are pushed to a...weird limit. Although HBO's The Idol was slated to be Euphoria 2.0, it's drawn criticism from those who have watched it.

To be fair, The Idol's goal may be about getting people to talk, good or bad. It dives into the professional and personal life of pop star Jocelyn, played by Lily-Rose Depp. But even that's being met with side eyes due to the role's eerie similarities to an actual celebrity — and The Weeknd's ex-girlfriend — Selena Gomez.

Here's all the evidence that makes thing awkward, plus learn how Lily-Rose Depp feels about the backlash over the series!

How is Selena connected to 'The Idol' co-creator The Weeknd?

In 2017, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd briefly dated after his relationship with model Bella Hadid ended. Although the relationship didn't make it to the one-year mark, they seemingly remained on friendly terms.

Why do fans feel Jocelyn From 'The Idol' is similar to Selena Gomez?

Photograph by Eddy Chen/HBO

Fans were quick to point out the similarities between Selena and The Idol's Jocelyn, with one going as far to tweet, "ever since finding out the idol is probably just the weeknd’s selena gomez fanfic i haven’t been able to sleep."

According to BuzzFeed, fans noticed both Jocelyn and Selena began their careers as kids. Before Selena starred in Wizards of Waverly Place, she got her start on Barney & Friends in 2002. From there, she's had a successful career starring in various TV shows and movies.

Another glaring similarity fans mentioned was the way Jocelyn was filmed posing for a cover story in "lingerie and a hospital bracelet" — very similar to Selena's video for her song "Bad Liar," where she was also seen wearing a hospital bracelet. Another fan tweeted, "the weeknd is a nasty person. the comparison between jocelyn and selena is scary and disrespectful. the idol lacks originality," showing a side-by-side comparison of the two scenes.

We also can't help but notice that Jocelyn's best friend Leia is not only her best friend, but she's also her personal assistant...not too dissimilar from the personal and working relationship Selena has with her best friend Theresa.

Is Selena Gomez the only pop star 'The Idol' seems to mirror?

It seems as much. GQ noted that The Idol makes a nod to or mentions icons such as Prince, Donna Summer, and Madonna in the first episode, proving that pop culture can always be referenced to make a connection to something. Meanwhile, the details of Jocelyn's life eerily match up with Selena Gomez's life IRL — more than just a reference.

What has Lily-Rose Depp said about 'The Idol?'

Theo Wargo/Getty Images

It's been over a year since fans noticed weird similarities between The Idol and Selena Gomez, but Lily-Rose Depp recently opened up about her feelings surrounding the show.

She said, "I love it. Honestly, I love it," (via Vanity Fair) before acknowledging she knew everyone involved was taking a risk making the controversial series. "You make something and you hope that people like it, and you hope that it resonates with people," she added. Still, the actress said everyone "knew some people were not going to like it and that it was going to be too much for some people."

The backlash from some viewers didn't really bother her for a few reasons. Firstly, she has no qualms doing "things that maybe not everybody's down to do." Secondly, she's "not an Internet rat like that" and isn't "on Twitter" so she's "not reading stuff."

For Lily, she had a great time immersing herself in The Idol's world, calling it a "huge turning point" for her." "I learned so much about myself, and I got to progress so much in my own work. I learned how to dance, and sing, and do all these things that I had never done before."

Her final verdict? She doesn't regret The Idol. "So I look back on it and I can only think fondly, and I’m really proud of what it is.”
