My daughter goes back to school in a few weeks and I’m bracing myself for the usual morning routine hustle. The juggle is real! At the end of her third grade year in May, though, we were getting to school on time consistently without the mad rush out of the house – with teeth actually brushed and homework in a backpack!

As someone who hasn’t ever had a cavity (for real!), oral health is important to me and I want it to be important to her too. I get it though, it’s boring!

But we’ve recently tried Boka n-Ha Toothpaste, a fluoride-free, non-toxic toothpaste for adults and kids that actually tastes delicious. She literally is excited to brush her teeth now. She loves their new flavor Boka Strawberry Mango. There’s also Orange Cream and Watermelon Mint – yum! Now when I ask if she’s brushed her teeth, I’m becoming less surprised when the answer is a resounding yes.

(The n-Ha stands for nano hydroxyapatite, a natural mineral that’s great for gum health like removing plaque and avoiding tartar build up as well as enamel repair.) Use code BOKABRIT15 on both Amazon and Boka.com for 15 percent off!

Here are more ways I’ve given my kiddo Matilda a little more incentive to brush her teeth, her hair, and get to school bright eyed and ready for the day.

Create A Chalkboard Checklist

I found this removable chalkboard paper online and she enjoys checking the things off her list before we head out the door – it’s a good reminder for what needs to be done in the short time we have. It’s a great tool for kids learning to read too. Sometimes we’ll leave each other love or funny notes – a perfect way to start the day!

Use Timers

Shouting “we’re late!” doesn’t always inspire a good mood, and kids don’t always pay attention to clocks – like ever. We’ve started using timers to help Matilda give herself enough time to mentally prepare for the end of something, such as brushing her teeth (2 minutes experts recommend) or the end of the screen time. Small sand timers are timers kids can actually use themselves when brushing their teeth.

Keep It Positive

I’m not a fan of alarm clocks. I wake up pretty early on my own to start making breakfast and lunch. Our pup and I will go in for some cuddle time when it’s time to wake M up. It’s a way we love to bond before the day, and she wakes up happy vs. grumpy, 99% of the time. Occasionally, I'll bring out the “morning spider” and tickle her back as motivation to wake up.

Give Age-Appropriate Tasks

At 9, Matilda will make her own toast now and grab some frozen blueberries from the freezer. She’ll dress herself too, often setting out her clothes the night before, and brush her teeth without me actually asking – a small parenting win but I’ll take it!

I still brush her hair because she hates to do it; it’s my last frontier in our morning ritual. One thing that helped her get on board with brushing her hair was reading a book called The Girl Who Wouldn’t Brush Her Hair by Kate Bernheimer. It’s a hoot!

Have a Backup Plan

Sometimes we wake up late or cuddle time goes on too long, and she’ll forget something like brushing her teeth. I use a pencil pouch as a toothbrushing kit so she can brush her teeth at school or in the car (nothing a little water bottle wouldn’t swish away). She can also eat breakfast in the car if totally necessary – we recently put a small trash bin in there to keep my “mom” car less of a food disaster!

Set Up A Go-Time Entryway

We put shoes, jackets, and backpacks in one place near the door. This is where everything goes after school so everyone’s ready to grab their things in the morning. It keeps clutter at bay in the rest of the house and chaos at bay when we’re trying to find our shoes in the morning.

Keep a Consistent Bedtime

Finally, we keep bedtime consistent even on weekends, so that she isn’t exhausted the next morning or always trying to catch up on sleep. This helps us stick to a consistent routine and make that 8:15 start time at school every time.

Morning rituals are important, but also it’s ok to slide once in a while. Extra cuddles are always worth a tardy sometimes. Good luck mamas with a new school year! Check out Boka for yourself too – the whole family will love it! Use code BOKABRIT15 on both Amazon and Boka.com for 15 percent off!

Anyone who has a dry scalp knows the struggles of finding the best shampoo that doesn't completely strip your tresses of moisture. It's like a weird dance of dodging sulfates and parabens, all the while trying to embrace hydration as much as possible.

If you struggle with having a dry scalp, you likely know it craves moisture, so I've been testing a brand I think will solve different hair problems — Sienna Naturals. Co-founders Hannah Diop and Issa Rae explained the unique formula that makes the brand one of the cleanest on the market, but I still wanted to test their award-winning products on my thick, natural hair.

The results of using this product shocked me so much that I couldn't wait to tell someone: I finally found the best shampoo for dry scalp, and it's the H.A.P.I Shampoo. Here's a full breakdown of what it does, my impression of it, and how other customers feel about it.

What does the H.A.P.I. shampoo claim to do?

Sienna Naturals

The H.A.P.I. shampoo claims to be a plant-based product that helps hydrate hair while removing product buildup from the scalp. It also aims to make the detangling process easier for straight, wavy, curly, and coily hair.

It's meant to address the following hair issues:

  • Dry hair
  • Flaky scalp
  • Frizziness

Keeping this in mind, the H.A.P.I. Shampoo says it can not only soothe an irritated scalp, but it can also revitalize your hair's natural texture. This is made possible by ingredients such as aloe vera juice, coconut derivatives, and baobab oil. As such, this is what makes the product plant-based, vegan, and cruelty-free.

Did I mention it's dermatologist-tested and approved? Okay, I can definitely get behind all this.

What awards has it won?

The H.A.P.I. Shampoo has won several awards in the past few years.

Overall, Sienna Naturals has been featured in WWD, Essence, Allure, Popsugar, Teen Vogue, and Fashionista!

My Impression Of The H.A.P.I. Shampoo

Jasmine Williams

I was hesitant to start using this brand because I'm wearing boho knotless braids. But, I know the importance of still caring my hair and scalp even if I have a protective style. I made sure to solely focus on my scalp because most of my product buildup is around the perimeter of my head and at the base of each braid.

The first thing I noticed is that I didn't have to exert a ton of energy to squeeze the product into my hand. It's a well-rounded bottle with an applicator that doesn't trap the product which I love.

When I applied the shampoo to my hair, it didn't take long for it to lather up. I enjoyed how soothing it felt on my scalp so I gave myself a mini massage as I worked it in. Since first use, I've used it once a week, and I love how it helps me maintain my hair while in a protective style. My scalp isn't as itchy or dry, which is really what sold me on this product.

If the scent of your hair products matters to you, do note that this shampoo doesn't have a sweet smell at all — it leans way more floral. The scents of lavender and geranium will fill your shower, but that's about it. That doesn't really bother me because I care more about my hair being clean more than anything, but I know some people may feel strongly about that.

What are other customers saying about it?

Customers are leaving rave reviews for the best shampoo for dry scalp . Here's some of the standout comments found on Sephora:

  • "I have been a happy HAPI Shampoo user for over 2 years. My the main reasons why I enjoy the shampoo so much is that makes my hair strong, soft, and very manageable."
  • "It lathers up easily and cleanses my hair really well. It feels gentle and not irritating on my scalp during the wash."
  • "This is THEE shampoo to get! It's highly moisturizing, to the point where I could detangle my hair while using it!"

Why You Should Buy The H.A.P.I. Shampoo

Sienna Naturals

Ultimately, I've found that this really is the best shampoo for dry scalps because there's no false advertisement associated with it. I know it's easy for brands to claim their products are clean and have a ton of benefits we're looking for, but they can also fall short of our expectations. In my experience, this shampoo did exactly what it said it would — and well!

You deserve more than some of the beauty gimmicks you've come across so I'm here to let you know I genuinely recommend Sienna Naturals' H.A.P.I. Shampoo. It has an amazing slip, and a little goes a long way.

Within the small amount of product you lather in your hands is a healthy dose of hydrating and cleansing properties that

In our Take 5 series, sponsored by Verizon, we ask women in business about unexpected challenges, their inspirations, recent wins, and how the free Verizon Small Business Digital Ready Program has helped propel their business forward. Here, we meet Shalia Moore-Hayes, who runs a laundry business, Team J&S, with her husband in St. Petersburg and Tampa, FL.

1. How is it running a business as a wife-and-husband team, with five children no less!

We capitalize on each other's strengths, and we help each other grow in our respective areas. I try to get comfortable with the things that he's good at and he tries to get comfortable with the paperwork – and the things that I'm a little bit more good at, and being aware of those responsibilities. So as long as we do that, things work out well.

2. What’s a recent small win for you and your business?

My husband recently learned how to repair a lot of different things. He paid attention to what the repairmen we hired to do the work were doing. Our top loaders, our most popular washing machine, takes a lot of wear and tear. They're not the easiest to maintain. My husband has learned how to fix them. That's a small win.

The second one, because I said I capitalize on his strengths and my strengths, is I've been much better about working with accounting software. I used Verizon Small Business resources to learn how to make our books easier.

3. Who is a woman in business that you look up to and why?

My husband and I both agree that the women who contract with us for our wash/dry/fold – who we were able to springboard with support from the Verizon grant program – have inspired us because they were homeless coming out of the pandemic. They were able to come into our establishment and start their own small business, and that's something that we are super proud of these women for, for taking the steps that they did to start their own small business.

4. What's a book, podcast, or resource that has made an impact on you as an entrepreneur?

Before 2018, my husband bought this DVD set by Danny D'Angelo, the KING of Laundry, and we were able to learn about the business just from sitting down and listening to him. A few years later, my husband was on his podcast! He was really, really inspirational to us.

5. How has the Verizon Small Business program helped propel your business forward?

The free resources are always a benefit because you're not obligated to do anything other than taking the time to seek out information. We're just real people and I feel like Verizon is a partnership with us in small business, supporting us, and believing in us. We've been able to expand our business because Verizon gave us a shot to do that. And that's amazing.

Right now we're about to approach that weird in-between period when the weather starts to feel like summer some days and like fall other days. It's very confusing for us and our closets, so before we can commit to completing the seasonal switch, you have to pull out some solid multifunctional pieces that work for both. May I introduce the best happy medium...knit wear. You can sport a knit dress in the summer without overheating, but the thickness of the material can still keep you cozy when the temperature starts to drop...especially as the sun goes down.

Here are nine Amazon knit dresses that will take you from summer to fall!

Amazon

I obviously had to include one of Amazon's best selling knit dresses! This one comes in so many different colors — 16 to be exact — and the quality is unbeatable! It's a perfect Labor Day Weekend dress for a barbecue or a beach day with friends. Plus, I can totally see this working well into fall with some boots and a sweater over it.

Amazon

This dress definitely leans more towards the summery side, but I just can't pass up on the twisted strapless top of this dress! Grab a denim jacket and some sneakers, and this can totally make the transition to the beginning of fall!

Amazon

Viottiset Women's Turtleneck Oversized Sweater Dress

I'm obsessed with the way that this turtleneck dress is styled with these boots — it's just so chic! I would love to wear this exact look to a concert or fair this fall. If cowboy boots aren't your thing, you can totally opt for riding bootsor sneakers! Regardless of how you accessorize, this lightweight dress is so perfect for those warm-to-cool September evenings.

Amazon

Chang Yun Women's Sleeveless Turtleneck Sweater Dress

This is another great in-between-season dress option! It stays light and flowy to accommodate for the late summer heat, but it will still keep you warm when the sun goes down when accessorized correctly. I'd grab a pair of tights and tall boots to pair with this in the cooler months!

Amazon

But seriously, it can't get much cozier than a long sleeve sweater dress. The beautiful aesthetic and '60s fashion aren't the only reasons I loved Palm Royale. The Apple TV+ series, starring Laura Dern, Carol Burnett, and Kaia Gerber, was campy enough to catch my eye but also kept me on the edge of my seat during that insane finale. (Although I'll admit getting me in the mood for summer wasn't too bad either). And good news for fans of the new TV showPalm Royale season 2 was just announced! Here's everything we know about the upcoming installment.

Is there a season 2 of Palm Royale?

Image via Apple TV+

Yes, we're getting a Palm Royale season 2! The second season was confirmed on June 6, 2024. "We are so thrilled to hear about season two," Laura Dern says in a statement (via THR). "Jayme [Lemons] and I with Jaywalker Pictures have been dreaming up this project for so long in hopes that audiences would have delicious fun with the radical ride that is the world of Palm Royale. We all can’t wait to get started.”

We know you're still thinking about THAT cliffhanger, and creator Abe Sylvia told THR that the team "wanted to create a situation where the audience gasped at the end, and we have to know what happens next."

"I think the audience should expect the unexpected," he continues. "I think they should expect us to double down on all the things that we did in season one, and go bigger."

When is Palm Royale season 2 coming out?

Image via Apple TV+

Hopefully we'll see new episodes of Palm Royale in 2025 — maybe just in time for next summer!

Who's in the cast of Palm Royale season 2?

Image via Apple TV+

Palm Royale features names like Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy, Kaia Gerber, Bruce Dern, and Carol Burnett. We're sure to see Laura and Kristen again, but stay tuned for more official casting announcements!

How many episodes will there be of Palm Royale?

Image via Apple TV+

Palm Royale season 1 features 10 episodes, so it's safe to assume season 2 will have the same amount.

Are you excited for Palm Royale season 2? Let us know in the comments!
