This Couple Created the Harry Potter Wedding of Your Dreams

Wedding season has yet to begin, but Lewis and Cassie Byrom (AKA the biggest J.K. Rowling fans EVER) pretty much already had the wedding of the year when they turned their big day into every Harry Potter enthusiast’s biggest fantasy-come-true (apart from the yet-to-be-released eighth book release, that is!)

The couple (who got engaged at — where else? — the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios) spared no detail, from the venue (Manchester’s sprawling Midland Hotel) to the announcements (Harry-style wanted posters) and the bouquet (which was — get this — made of pages from Harry Potter books, and by the bride herself, no  less!) Now that’s a DIY!

Carrying a real replica of Hermione’s handbag from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows (all the better to offset her Slytherin and Gryffindor heels — squee!), the bride also rocked a Blake Lively-style Harry Potter mani and a Harry-themed garter belt.

We SO wish we could have been on that guest list — we would’ve had the perfect gift! Alas, for now, we’re content to revel in the beautiful photos (shot by photographer Kelly Clarke) while we daydream about what that epic cake (topped with Lego Harry figures!) tasted like.

Pretty and demure or technicolor bright, drip cakesare definitely having a moment. There’s such drama in a colorful drip streaking down the side of a tall layer cake — it’s no surprise they’ve become so popular at weddings and showers. And it’s surprisingly simple to create your own. You just need to bake your favorite sponge cake, get creative with the decorations… and then decide on the all-important color of your drip! We used white chocolate ganache to create the drip in this recipe, and then tinted it using Americolor gel food coloring. We chose a medley of fresh fruit and herbs for the topper, but you can choose the decorations to suit your theme and occasion.

Ingredients:

For the cake layers

  • 10 1/2 ounces all-purpose flour
  • 11 1/2 ounces caster sugar
  • 2 ounces ground almonds
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 Tablespoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 7 ounces unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3 large eggs
  • 6 1/2 fluid ounces whole milk + 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • extra butter and flour for the cake tins
  • four 6×3-inch cake tins
  • greaseproof paper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease four 6-inch cake tins. Line the bottoms with greaseproof paper, grease again, and dust with flour. Shake out any excess.
  2. Put the flour, sugar, ground almonds, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, and salt in a food processor fitted with a metal blade or in the bowl of a stand mixer. Pulse or mix briefly to combine.
  3. Add the cubed butter, and pulse or mix again until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  4. Add the eggs and mix until incorporated. You might need to scrape down the sides of the bowl to make sure everything is evenly mixed.
  5. Add the milk and vanilla extract and mix for 2-3 minutes until the batter is smooth. Again, scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake tins. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean and the cakes are springy to the touch.
  7. Leave the cakes to cool in the tins for 10 minutes, then carefully turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Cut any “domes” off the cakes using a serrated knife to ensure all layers are even and level.

Ingredients:

For the filling, frosting, and decorations

  • 14 ounces full-fat mascarpone
  • 8 1/2 fluid ounces heavy cream
  • 10 1/2 ounces icing sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 10 ounces store-bought lemon or passionfruit curd
  • 3 ounces fresh blueberries
  • a selection of fresh fruit such as figs, cherries, pomegranate, and blackberries to decorate
  • sprigs of fresh rosemary to decorate

For the drip

  • 3 1/2 ounces good quality white chocolate, finely chopped
  • 3 fluid ounces heavy cream
  • Americolor soft gel paste food colors

Instructions:

  1. Put all the mascarpone, heavy cream, icing sugar, and vanilla extract in the bowl of your stand mixer. Whisk on low speed to combine. Increase the speed to maximum and whisk for a minute. Stop the mixer and scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl. Whisk again until you have firm peaks — about a minute more.
  2. Transfer the frosting to a large piping bag fitted with a plain round tip. Put the lemon curd in another piping bag.
  3. Add a little frosting on your cake stand or platter to secure the bottom cake layer. Pipe a ring of frosting around the perimeter of the cake. Pipe a ring of lemon curd on the inside, then another ring of frosting, and finally a dot of curd. Dot the curd with fresh blueberries.
  4. Repeat this until you’ve used all the layers. Add a large dollop of frosting on the top of the cake and use an offset spatula or pastry scraper to spread it on top of the cake in an even layer and then down the sides of the cake.
  5. Add more frosting to the sides of the cake as needed and use a pastry scraper to smooth it so that the layers are showing through for a naked cake effect. This is best done using a cake turntable. Chill the cake for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Put the white chocolate and heavy cream in a bowl and microwave in 10-second bursts until it starts to melt. Stir until completely smooth and glossy. Add a small amount of gel food coloring (or combinations of colors) until you achieve the desired shade. I used Americolor in electric pink, purple, and blue.
  7. Leave the ganache to cool — put in the fridge for 20 minutes if you’re in a hurry.
  8. Use a spoon or a squeeze bottle to add a little ganache near the edge of the top so that it drips down the sides. Test a small amount first to see how it drips down the cake so you can control the effect. Once you’re happy with it, add drips down the side of the entire cake.
  9. Fill the top of the cake with the ganache, starting at the center and moving outward. Chill the cake until the ganache is almost set before adding your decorations. It’s best to add any fresh fruit etc. at the last minute before you’re ready to present the cake.
  10. Artfully arrange fresh fruit — figs, blackberries, pomegranate seeds, and cherries — over the top of the cake. Add a few sprigs of rosemary for a rustic touch and prepare to wow your guests!

Despite the fact that paparazzi love to see (and often follow) celebrity couples, Freddie just revealed how he and Sarah have been able to keep things low-key. When Oldish's podcast co-host Randy Spelling asked how they stay out of the public — and how intentional they have to be to keep a low profile — Freddie said it's "by choice," and that "you can control it to a certain degree."

"I don't know how deliberate [others] are in trying to avoid that BS," he said on the podcast. "I know how easy it's been for us because I don't go anywhere. I don't go to parties. People don't see Sarah and I out and about at the popular places. We have our restaurants that we like, and they're not super trendy in places where paparazzi hang out. So we're good at avoiding it."

Her new show Étoile, which is coming to Prime Video, promises to be a beautiful and sophisticated look at the world of dance, and if the fact that it's from Amy wasn't enough reason to watch it, it's also Prime's first new show to get a two-season order! Following our beloved Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Dan and Amy Sherman-Palladino's next series is Étoile, which is set at two world-famous ballet companies in New York City and Paris. When both companies run into some trouble, the decide to swap their most talented stars in a last-ditch effort to save themselves.

And based on the first set leaks from New York City, it looks like Étoile will definitely be packing on the drama. This short clip shows Luke Kirby standing outside Lincoln Center in a serious conversation (probably about the fate of his ballet company, TBH).

"Well, guess that plan for early retirement will have to wait," Dan and Amy said in a joint statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). "Instead, we’ve decided to embark on an international journey with an unbelievable group of players and the most talented ballet dancers in the world. We will sleep when we’re dead."

But this isn't the first time ASP has forayed into the world of ballet! Her ABC Family series Bunheads (which premiered on June 11, 2012) follows Michelle (Sutton Foster) who moves to her hometown of Paradise and starts working at her mother-in-law's dance studio The Paradise Dance Academy. The best part is that the role of Michelle's mother-in-law is played by Emily Gilmore herself, Kelly Bishop!

When does Étoile premiere?

We don't have an official release date yet, but considering THR recently revealed the show will finish filming soon, we're hoping to see Étoile in 2025. Just like Gilmore Girls is the ultimate fall rewatch, maybe Étoile will be the ultimate winter rewatch!

Yanic Truesdale, who played our favorite Gilmore Girls concierge Michel, has also joined the series as a recurring character! I'm so excited to see Yanic working with Amy Sherman-Palladino again — it's like a Gilmore Girls reunion!

What does Étoile mean?

Étoile translates to "star," and there are so many different connections here! We have the ballet stars themselves, but you also wish upon a star and reach for the stars when you're working towards a dream. If you ask me, Étoile is the perfect name for this series.

How many episodes does Étoile have?

We're especially sad to see the Toasted White Chocolate Mocha not included, though the official menu lineup has yet to be released!

When is Starbucks Red Cup Day 2024?

Though there's no official word out about Red Cup Day for 2024, our best guess – based on the Red Cup Days of years past – is it'll return mid-November. In 2023, Red Cup Day fell on November 16. In 2022, the coffee chain held the event on November 17. Both dates landed on the third Thursday of November, so we predict it to hit on November 21 for 2024. Red Cup Day is when Starbucks customers can get a free reusable red cup when they order a seasonal drink off the holiday menu.
