It’s 2016, which (among other things) means women have been getting pregnant and giving birth for roughly a couple hundred millennia, give or take. Despite full universal awareness of that thing that is the baby bump, and its eventual translation into an Earth-side human being, whenever we see a baby bump reveal in action we can’t help but be obsessed AF. From the sexy semi-nude baby bump to the “is she or isn’t she?” Blake Lively-style bumperoo, there’s something hardwired in us to react with delight and semi-surprise when we witness this thing, the bump, which is beautiful and precious but also, TBH, one of the least surprising facts of being a mammal. But, hardwired we are… which is why everyone is freaking the F out about Laura Perlongo’s VMAs baby bump.

Are you freaking the F out yet? Maybe the matching his-and-hers army green tops and the open front and the boob chain will help get you there. Laura Perlongo is the fiancée of Nev Shulman, star of MTV’s Catfish. The pair announced their pregnancy in mid-May of this year, after seven months of long-distance dating, and declared their engagement shortly after. The pregnancy, by Perlongo’s own admission, happened “accidentally-on-purpose,” and she’s documented the whole ordeal in a blog post for Attn, which you should definitely read because it’s insanely charming and honest.

In that post, she explains: “I’m writing this because I believe baby-making times are strange for the growing population of girls like me (and most modern couples for that matter) and we shouldn’t feel dumb talking about the stuff that makes us wonder if we should stop procreating altogether.”

Sweet, right?

According to LinkedIn, via the devoted muckrakers over at Heavy, Perlongo graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University in 2007 and is a freelance copywriter and photographer.

Oh, and she’s having a girl.

6 Salon Habits That Are Secretly Annoying Your Hairdresser

Beauty appointments are at the top of my self-care list, but you there's one question that's always sat in the back of my mind. Do I have bad habits that are annoying to my hairdresser or am I a "good" client? This could stem from being listening to retail horror storiesand fighting the urge to gasp in horror at customers' behavior.

No matter what it is, it's apparent hairdressers aren't a fan of everything you and I may do before, during, and after our appointments. Out of curiosity, I asked the following hairstylists about their biggest pet peeves:

Learn which bad habits you should stop doing if you want to stay in your hairdresser's good graces!

1. Coming To Your Appointment After Being At The Gym

I'm thoroughly surprised that people do this because I know how sweaty I get after a workout. But Jorge's had clients who've done this and it's not a good look, according to her. "Yes your service begins with a wash, but seriously," she asks. I don't think you need a reminder, but you might want to take a shower after your gym or pilates session out of courtesy for your hairdresser!

2. Arriving Late To Your Appointment 

Most hairdressers have have a grace period for clients because they understand things happen, but that's not your cue to take advantage of their kindness. For Durante, "being late is the primary issue." Want to know why? He says it's because this "backs up all the appointments and creates a domino effect of issues that can often be hard to catch up on."

3. Acting Like An Armchair Stylist

Hair appointments should be collaborative, yes, but not to the point where your hairdresser feels like you're trying to do their job for them. Jorge says, "The most nerve-wrecking thing a client can do while they are in the chair is constantly second guess what the stylist is doing or changing their minds about their service. Clients need to trust their stylist and not back seat drive every snip."

If you're guilty of doing this, try to be mindful of how this makes your hairdresser feels. They're providing a service, but they're still human.

Jorge also says, "Sometimes, I just want to give the client the scissors and let them cut their own hair. J/K.."

It's something Durante doesn't care for either. "We always encourage our clients to give as many details as possible with how they want their hair to be cut, colored, and/or styles, but directing the service and telling the hairstylist exactly how to do their hair in step-by-step format is unnecessary when seeing a professional," he states.

Should you be afraid to talk to your hairdresser? Not at all, but it's unhelpful if you think you're more equipped to do your hair while sitting in their chair. "We appreciate a client's direction as it is their look, but critiquing and instructing us on how to reach the end goal is beyond frustrating. Quite frankly, we have spent years handling requests and know exactly how to achieve your desired look based on the tools we've gathered throughout the years," Durante adds.

5. Waiting To Share Your Dissatisfaction

Another annoying behavior stems from something we've all done at least once. Durante says, "When completing a cut or color based on an inspiration photo, the client says they "wanted to go a different direction" - but only tells us once the service is completed."

At this stage in life, I realize the importance of communicating with my hairdresser throughout my appointment. People can't read minds so it's something to think about if you typically wait until your service is over to complain.

6. Covering Your Hair Once It's Been Styled

According to Jorge, it's annoying when "after receiving a hair cut and styling, the client wears a hat or covers their hair." I'm always excited after a hair appointment because it's a chance to enjoy and show off my new refreshed look, but I guess some people feel the need to "hide" their style.

Her other pet peeves? "Washing their hair with a cheap, sulfate shampoo that ruins their color. Going for a swim after a keratin treatment only to dry their hair afterwards and realize a giant frizz bomb where perfectly straight hair once was."

8 "Outdated" Early 2000s Fashion Trends That Aged Horribly

While some Y2K looks have made a huge comeback, like denim skirts, butterfly clips, halter tops, and cargo pants, there's a seemingly endless amount of strange fashion trends from this era that are just cringeworthy today.

From massive, clunky belts to chunky highlights and ultra mini skirts that could've fallen off at any moment, these style choices might be nostalgic, but they wouldn't hold up on retail racks in 2025. So, in my humble opinion, here are the worst early 2000s fashion trends that have aged terribly.

1. Dresses Over Jeans

Wearing a dress is already enough of an ordeal, particularly when you have to use the restroom. Yet, for some reason, this process was made even more complicated with the infamous dresses-over-jeans look.

The 2000s loved layering, whether it made sense or not, so dresses were just thrown on over jeans, even for the red carpet. The result was a strange combination that wasn't functional or fashion-forward. And if you wanna try it for yourself in 2025, this Urban Outfitters dress seems to work for the trend...

2. Skinny Scarves

These ridiculously thin pieces of fabric served no real purpose other than to add another layer to an outfit. Nonetheless, the skinny scarf was used to spice up all kinds of ensembles, from dresses to basic T-shirts with jeans.

Let's save scarves for, well, when our necks need to be kept warm in the fall or winter. Otherwise, the tiny piece of fabric isn't doing anything for us except adding noise.

3. Big Belts

Do you remember the giant belts that Y2K celebs wore high on their waist or super low on their hips? They typically had flashy buckles or heavy metal details and wouldn't even fit through jean belt loops!

Again, Y2K fashion followed the "go big or go home" mentality and big belts were no exception. They just weren't practical, flattering, or necessary most of the time.

4. Wedge Heels 24/7

We all know that certain trends have the power to last for more than one decade. Wedge heels were one of them, infiltrating the early 2000s and remaining the go-to footwear for literally all occasions.

Nowadays, wedge heels are generally reserved for more casual or even beachy outings. But during this era, they had us in a chokehold and were worn for nights out and even by celebs on the red carpet.

5. Striped Highlights

Given how balayages are all the rage today, it's unimaginable why anyone wanted chunky stripes of highlights in their hair during the early 2000s.

To be clear, there's nothing inherently wrong with experimenting with your hair, but this bold style was both hard to maintain and super patchy, making it just painful to look at. I don't envision this trend making a resurgence anytime soon.

6. Pirate Pants

Thanks to M.C. Hammer, teens and young adults ate up wide, voluminous pants. Then, this garment got its own spin in the 2000s with the rise of Pirate Pants — or baggy joggers.

They tapered around the ankles, puffed around the thighs, and made everyone look pretty pear-shaped. We commend the fashion risk-taking, but the result didn't really complement any silhouettes.

7. Neckties

Arguably, one of the most random accessories to pop up in this decade was the necktie, particularly in punk-inspired fashion.

Avril Lavigne was this trend's trailblazer and added ties to tons of her outfits, even if she was just wearing jeans and a tank top. This look never made sense and, in hindsight, feels a lot more misplaced than edgy.

8. Ultra Mini Skirts

Finally, the ultra mini is perhaps one of Y2K's worst offenders. These barely-there skirts were so tiny that I don't even know how they stayed in place.

The idea was that you'd get to show off your legs, but with one wrong move, you'd end up accidentally revealing much more. Again, kudos to 2000s celebs for trying out something bold, but the constant stress isn't worth it. Thankfully, our more recent ultra minis are skorts, now!
