Whether you opted (or are going to opt) for a colorful engagement ring or an unconventional engagement ring, you’re going to want to keep the token of love sparkling. But, as it’s the symbol of your everlasting commitment, you’ll also want to wash it with great care. Here are some tips from the experts on how to do just that.
Ryan Elbaz of Majesty Diamonds told Glamourthat cleaning is essential to keeping your bling in tip-top shape.
Owner of Metalicious, Stephanie Maslow-Blackman actually suggests starting with an inspection. Check out each stone and each prong to make sure nothing is loose. If anything looks amiss, take it into the jewelers to fix it up.
When you’re sure it’s ready for a cleaning, you should definitely stay away from the harsh stuff like bleach, chlorine, acetone and even silver and gold cleaners, as they can harm the stones. Your best bet is good ol’ soap and water. Pop a bit of dish-soap into warm water and drop in your ring. Leave it for about 15 minutes, which will help loosen any dirt, lotion or soap that may have dried on.
After 15 minutes are up, FIRST PLUG YOUR SINK so that your ring can’t disappear down the drain. Then use a steady stream of warm water to rinse your ring off, turning it over and over to get at each side and in every crevice. If any pesky dirt is persistent, take a soft toothbrush and gently scrub.
To dry, Maslow-Blackman says to “dry your ring with a soft cotton cloth — no paper towels, because they will scratch your metal — and let it air dry for about 15-30 minutes before putting it back on.” Once it’s dry, voila! A beautifully clean ring.
When it comes to how often you should clean your ring, the experts agree that it depends on your daily habits. The more you wear your them and the nastier your tasks, the more you’ll want to give your rings a cleaning.
If you’re ready to show off your engagement ring like it’s the first time you wowed your besties with it, then use these super easy tips and get cleaning.
