This week, the sound of a million hearts breaking echoed around the world as it was revealed that Prince Harry maybe-probably has a girlfriend. An American girlfriend, to boot.
We know that Meghan Markle plays the hardworking Rachel Zane on the legal drama Suits, and that the two reportedly met in Toronto, where the show films, when Harry was there in May. Meghan was given Harry’s ~private~ social media info, and the two have been following each other since. She’s also visited London TWICE since they met, according to her Instagram, and Harry conspicuously cancelled a flight to Toronto just hours before the dating news broke. We see you, guys!

In the interest of making sure our favorite Royal got a good one, we’ve done some extra Googling and Instacreeping and dug up some extra info on the latest object of our Hollywood envy.
Here’s what we know so far.
Meghan’s a humanitarian. Meghan wants to return to university to get a Master’s degree in International Diplomacy someday, but she’s already putting in the work in foreign relations. In 2016 she became the Global Ambassador for World Vision Canada, and she’s also put in time with United Nations Women, presenting at the HeforShe Gender Equality Campaign back in 2014, among other charitable work.
She’s also just released a clothing line. Meghan wanted to make an “accessible” capsule wardrobe for Canadian clothing store Reitmans, and is set to release the faux leather skirt pictured here, as well as a bodysuit, a cashmere poncho, faux leather trousers and a silk blouse.
She also runs her own lifestyle website, The Tig. Covering food, travel, fashion and beauty, Meghan’s site is just another way she seems super cool and accomplished.
She got into acting accidentally. Meghan played a role in a friend’s college film, and when a manager saw it, he pursued her as an acting client.
She says her mixed heritage has played a big part in her life and career. Meghan has told Elle that while she wishes she could answer questions about where she’s from with “Pennsylvania and Ohio,” she instead knows what it is people are really asking. “My dad is Caucasian and my mom is African American. I’m half black and half white,” she will instead say. When it came time to start auditioning for roles, Meghan says she “wasn’t black enough for the black roles and I wasn’t white enough for the white ones, leaving me somewhere in the middle as the ethnic chameleon who couldn’t book a job.” She credits the Suits producers for booking her exactly for this reason. “In making a choice like that, the Suits producers helped shift the way pop culture defines beauty.”

Meghan has been married before. Never mind that she’s American — some tongues are also wagging at Meghan’s status as a divorcee. She dated film producer Trevor Engelson from 2004 ’til 2011 when they married, but were divorced in 2013. Some say the Royal Family would never approve, but we’d like to see Harry let it stop him.
She was still dating a famous Toronto chef when she and Harry met. As already mentioned, Meghan works largely out of Toronto, and the National Post reports that when her and Harry met, she was two years into a relationship with local chef Cory Vitiello, but that they broke up in May… when Meghan and Harry reportedly met.
She and Harry have matching bracelets, tho. Eagle-eyed fans pointed out that the blue beaded bracelet seen in the above photo is a liiiiiittle too similar to one that Harry is often seen wearing. Okay, the devastation is setting in.
The M word is already out there. Yep — marriage. This escalated quickly! We just found out about this romance yesterday, and already a source tells People that Meghan has already met Harry’s dad, Prince Charles, and that an engagement is “certainly a possibility.” Everyone just take a sec, catch your breath and remember: Neither has confirmed that they are even dating, so there’s no need to plan your elaborate wedding ceremony scenes just yet.
