5 Ways to Dress Down Your Fave Work Clothing for the Weekend

There’s a good chance that your nine-to-five wardrobe and off-duty style are from two totally different worlds. And since you spend a good chunk of time at the office, we’re guessing that your on-the-clock duds are dominating your closet, which makes those “I have nothing to wear” kind of moments turn into a total nightmare, especially when you’re off duty. Suiting separates and boardroom-ready frocks at brunch — no, thanks! But those work-week essentials (and even your more elevated pieces) are totally capable of packing more punch than just outside of business hours. From proper pencil skirts to block heel pumps that punch up your commute, those dressed up duds are about to get an everyday makeover — and it’s way is easier than you think. Here’s how to dress down your work essentials to make them work ’round the clock.

Pencil skirts say sophisticated and chic, but with just the right accessories they can be serious street-style bait. Balance out the figure-hugging silhouette with an oversized cape and a sporty color blocked topper for a more laid-back look. Sleek metallic sneakers pack an athleisure punch, while a bright beanie will keep you warm while adding edge to your amped-up off-duty getup.

How to Dress Down Trousers

Tailored trousers are easy to work in just about anywhere, but to really cut their on-duty edge, pair up with pieces that scream off-the-clock, like a bright scuba sweatshirt, plaid top and slide on sneakers. Add in a few eye-catching accessories for good measure, like a bright suede sac and minimalist rope cuff.

How to Dress Down a Slip Dress

Don’t let those special occasion dresses lay limp in your closet during off-peak party season. Layer them over long sleeve tops and clog-like kicks, or get wrapped up in a cozy sweater and wild waist belt. Bonus points for a fun, quirky clutch.

How to Dress Down Heels

Nothing says dressed up quite like a sassy pair of pumps, but these wardrobe warriors go well beyond the call of duty. When you want to keep it casual, toss them on with crazy comfy joggers, a next-level tee and an oversized wool coat.

How to Dress Down a Blazer

Blazers are like the basic that keeps on giving. They’ll help you nail that presentation and your Friday-night ensemble. Jeans are a favorite weekend partner to this tried-and-true topper, but to really take your style one step further, toss it over a denim jumpsuit and quicksilver shoes. Funky socks are a must, and an embroidered bag will add an extra layer of intrigue to this spot-on pairing.

Choosing a hairstyle for the day with very fine, thin hair can sometimes make you go a tad crazy. I know I've been there once or twice (or many) times, myself. Struggling to keep volume in your hair after you do said-hairstyle can be even harder. That's why I often opt for more voluminous hairstyles that allow your hair to look a bit fuller than it may actually be!

I asked hair expert Renee Valerie on her tips for styling thin hair, and how to keep it looking voluminous all day long, so keep reading to hear all of her amazing insight! And make sure to save this list so you can come back to it when you're having one of those "I can't get my hair to not be anything but flat" days. 😘

How do you keep volume in thin hair?

Kayla Walden

With thin hair, you have to be aware that curls or other heat-based styles won't hold as long in your hair because of the fine texture. In order to get styles to last, you have to use volumizing products like a styling mist or a holding gel. Expert hair stylist, Renee Valerie, says that you should never hesitate to layer products to achieve the fullness and lasting style that fine hair requires.

Using sprays or gels will help create a long-lasting voluminous style, while also protecting the color and health of your hair. So don't be scared to try new products — and even test them out together!

Layers

To start, a good layered haircut will make all the difference with fine hair. When you get a haircut with lots of layers, this helps to create dimension in the hair which gives the illusion of volume, especially when styled right. This added texture makes styling so easy because it gives your hair way more life and movement.

Half Up Half Down

There's many ways you can go about this — and I'll definitely get into more options — but you can't go wrong with a classic half-up half-down. This is a great style when you're on the end of your hair wash cycle, and need to hide some of the grease. Add a touch of dry shampoo and throw it up in this style, and you're good to go! Plus, it gets even cuter when you style it with a scrunchie or a bow to add a fun touch to the look!

Ashley Diego

Blowout

A classic blowout is one of my favorite styles for my thin hair! I typically do this when my hair's freshly wet out of the shower. I'll soak it in a styling gel or voluminous mousse to help give it volume and allow the curls to hold. Then I'll either blow it dry or use my Dyson Airwrap for the curls. The trick is to add strengthening hairspray after for an even longer hold.

Kayla Walden

Claw Clip

I love using claw clip because I can tease the underside of my hair for some added volume and use the claw clip to push up my hair even more. This is another great way to add volume to otherwise flat hair — and it's super easy to do! You just need a teasing comb, a claw clip, and voila! You're out the door, and looking fab!

Beachy Waves

Beachy, textured waves are sure to bring life to your thin hair! I love doing this fun hairstyle when I want a more textured look. I'll either braid my hair the night before to get the waves, or individually curl my hair tightly to get these tighter peachy waves like above. Then, all you need to do is add a texture spray and scrunch your hair. These usually last 2-3 days for me!

Cara Ellis

Messy Bun

Ah, the messy bun. Quite easily the best and quickest way to deal with your thin hair, giving it the illusion of texture or volume. I also happen to love how my hair looks when I take it out of the messy bun — I get all these kinky waves that give life to your hair. Just throw it up in a bun without trying too hard, and pull out some face-framing pieces. You'll look like you have voluminous hair in no time!

Jessie Allen

Half-Up Half-Down Braid

This is a super fun hairstyle if you're looking for something intermediate or a little more complicated than our other styles! The easiest way I like to achieve this style is by taking two pieces from either side of your hair and braiding them individually. Then wrap them around your head, tucking them into each other to create and invisible braid like above. Take it a step further by adding in beads, accessories, or flowers into the braid. A very whimsical, bridal style — or every something flirty for everyday — if I say so myself!

Kayla Walden

Using Hot Rollers

For this style, I actually used hot rollers to achieve a bouncy looking blowout. Whenever I use hot rollers, my blowout lasts much, much longer — this is because when you clip them to your head, they cool off in the curled shape for better hold. This is perfect for thin, fine hair that normally doesn't hold curls too well. It's my go-to style when I need the curls to really last all day long.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner may have split back in 2015, but they're spending an awfully lot of time together as of late. Ben's latest divorce from Jennifer Lopez was the split heard 'round the world over the summer of 2024, after giving us the ever-enigmatic 'Bennifer 2.0' and its whirlwind marriage. However, we would be lying if we didn't say we were so sad when he and our favorite 13 Going On 30star ended things almost a decade ago.

Jen and Ben share three children together, and have found a way to successfully co-parent together. But could they be back on their way to finding something more? These two seem to be out and about together quite a lot lately, and it's got us thinking: could Ben reunite with yet another Jennifer from his past? Here's what's going on!

Everything you need to know about Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner's latest outings together!

Kevin Winter/Getty Images

On March 2, 2025, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner shared a family outing with their kids at a paintball park, according to Page Six. The two seemed really relaxed with one another in the photos, smiling and laughing throughout their time together.

Since then, sources shared with PEOPLEthat the former couple is "on great terms" with each other. They said, "Jen's very happy with Ben. He spends a lot of time with the kids." Another source told people, "They get along great. She makes him laugh like no one else can. She seems happy that Ben's happy."

It's definitely clear that these two still have a unique bond!

This isn't the only time the exes have been out together recently. Page Sixreported that Jennifer and Ben were driving out in LA together in early December, ultimately grabbing bagels and heading back to Ben's place. This outing comes after a source shared with PEOPLE that Jen and Ben planned to spend the holidays together in 2024.

"Jen truly just wants her kids to be happy. She will continue to make sure that they spend time together as a family and include Ben," the source said. "They have Christmas plans with the kids too. The kids enjoy when they all spend time together."

Christmas isn't the only holiday this former family of five shared in 2024 either. They all spent Thanksgiving together as well, and a source told Page Sixthat Ben Affleck "felt blessed" for that time together. Apparently, Ben feels like he "can just be himself" when he's with her. “Even though Ben and Jen have been split for a while now, he feels a certain level of comfort with her," the source said. “Ben has a strong relationship with Jen that will never dissipate because they have a lot of history together and she’s the mother of his kids.”

Meanwhile, another source shared with PEOPLEthat Jen, Ben, and their kids all worked together at The Midnight Mission's Thanksgiving Street Fair as well. The source said, “They truly enjoy giving back to their community and cherishing quality time together as a family."

Right now, Jen's technically still dating John Miller, according to PEOPLE. However, we'd be remiss not to notice how close the former couple is at the moment. Could there be rekindled feelings? Is this the REAL second chance love story we deserve? Is it really just about the mutual respect these two have for each other — and their family? Definitely keeping an eye on this space to see what happens next!

Regardless of their romantic relationship status, it's honestly so nice to see Ben spending time with his family at the holidays and beyond. Thankfully his highly dramatized relationship with Jennifer Lopez didn't seem to harm any goodwill Ben has with his kids and ex-wife, and there's something really lovely about that! So, here's hoping this modern family continues to find happiness together!

The ultimate micro-trend of this spring and summer seems to be… wearing men’s boxers as shorts. I know it sounds a little risqué – sporting undergarments out in the open and all – but the boxer shorts trend is delightfully approachable, easy, and super adorable. Like most other fashion trends I encounter, it first popped off with some TikTok outfit check videos. I was hooked from the first scroll.

In a summer full of record-breaking heat, light, breezy boxers are a godsend. They give you the opportunity to simply wear something that *won’t* suffocate you while you’re already feeling self-conscious about sweating. Aside from being a practical pick, the boxer shorts trend gives you that stylish, effortless, and oh-so desired ‘model off-duty’ look. It’s giving “I just rolled out of bed,” but with a more tailored twist.

How to Style Boxer Shorts

John Galt White & Blue Striped Boxer Shorts

The key to styling the boxer shorts trend is ensuring your ensemble has a healthy mix of different styles. If you opt for a casual, oversized tee atop the shorts, it’s going to look like you’re wearing pajamas – which, technically, is what they are, but the idea is to wear them like they’re not.

You want to dress your boxer shorts up a bit! All the girlies are matching their cowboy boots, mini purses, bikinis, button-downs, ballet flats, sneakers (Adidas Sambas, I see you), and blazers with boxer shorts, helping balance out their informal flair. Here are 10 pairs to abide by the boxers shorts trend with creative ways to style them!

Old Navy Soft-Washed Boxer Shorts 5-Pack

This multipack of basic boxer shorts hosts 5 different colors. Pair them with a baby tee and Birkenstocks slides (inspired by this adorable casual get-up) for a loungewear-like feel!

Comme Si La Boxer Classica

These boxer shorts from Comme Si have all the dainty details that elevate their look, like the front label and buttons! The light blue shade could be worn with a denim short sleeve shirt and cowgirl boots for a Western, coastal cowgirl-esque vibe! From there, layer on the gold jewelry and retro sunnies.

Urban Renewal Remnants Made In LA Button Front Boxer Short

It's safe to say I'm obsessed with these colors! If your boxer shorts 'fit is craving more color, opt for this pair from Urban Outfitters. They feature the classic three-button detail at the front, and a stretchy waistband that moves with you. I could see myself styling these with an oversized graphic tee and clogs!

John Galt White & Blue Striped Lace Trim Boxer Shorts

The lacy trim that lines the hem of these boxer shorts is just adorable. It adds an air of femininity to your look, no matter what shirts or shoes you wear these shorts with. Beware that this pair is a bit more low-waisted than your usual boxer shorts – any longline top will work well with them.

Goodfellow & Co Woven Boxers

This is a boxer shorts deal *too* good to pass up – you get 5 for $17! Your summer wardrobe will be full of effortless outfits, thanks to this pack. Wear them with a dainty pointelle tank top and ballet flats for a feminine flair that approaches balletcore.

Oddli Boxers

Made sustainably from deadstock fabrics, this Oddli design is any girl's boxer shorts dream. Any of the colors they come in (um, like 17!) could be dressed up with a sporty jacket over a solid tube top, and trendy sneakers or sturdy boots on the feet.

Aerie Seersucker Boxer

The material on these boxer shorts keeps everything feeling light and cool. The multicolor colorway makes them feel a little less pajama-y, and make them the ultimate candidate to pair with a gauzy white linen button-up!

J. Crew End-on-End Cotton Boxer Short

Flaunting a sportier fit, these boxer shorts from J. Crew are more than easy to wear. I can see the darker colorway of this pair going *so* well with a white tank and light pink cardigan – and if the sweater gets too warm, you could always tie the sleeves over your shoulders for a preppy take on the boxer shorts trend.

Gap Organic Cotton Striped Poplin Shorts

These higher-waisted boxer shorts are made of 100% organic cotton, keeping things light and breezy down there. The lush green color is spring and summer's perfect match, and the vertical striped pattern on these bottoms only adds to their trendiness. You could snag the matching shirt from Gap, or go crazy and pair these with a baby tee and boots!

Amid Blake Lively & Justin Baldoni's legal battle, their It Ends With Us costars have stayed relatively quiet, but on February 17, Brandon Sklenar (who played Atlas opposite Blake's Lily and Justin's Ryle) was straight-up asked if he's Team Blake or Team Justin. The question shocked me a little, TBH, given the internet's discussion around whether the PR for the movie trivialized its themes of domestic violence, but Brandon handled the q like a champ.

Here's what Brandon Sklenar said about Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni amid the It Ends With Us legal battle.

Brandon Sklenar wants audiences to remember "why we made" 'It Ends With Us.'

Sony Pictures Releasing

At the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, Brandon Sklenar opened up about why the whole legal battle is "tough."

"I mean, I just... It's a tough situation," the 1923 actor tells The Hollywood Reporter. "I just hope everyone remembers what the movie is about and why we made it in the first place. It's about love. It's about supporting women in general and helping people through tough times."

"I just want people to remember what it's about, why we made it, and to kinda keep it on that," he continues. "That kind of, like, core ethos, you know what I mean?"

In a conversation ahead of 1923 season 2, which drops on Paramount+ February 23, Brandon revealed that he just wants "people to remember why we made the movie in the first place and what it stands for, and just keeping the focus on that."

The film follows Lily Bloom, who finds herself in the middle of a very complex and dangerous relationship. "That movie meant so much to me, and I have someone very, very close to me in my life who's gone through what Lily's going through for a long time and I've been on the front lines helping her navigate that space," Brandon continues. "Me doing that film gave her the strength to change her life...It's unfortunate that things get taken away from what the ethos of [the movie] is and gets convoluted, and I just want to remind people of why that thing exists in the first place."

But is he Team Blake or Team Justin? "I'm Team It Ends With Us," Brandon tells CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King.

And it's not the first time Brandon Sklenar has spoken up.

This isn't the first time Brandon Sklenar has spoken on the feud between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. After Blake's legal team published a story in the New York Times in December 2024, alleging that Justin has sexually harassed her and orchestrated a smear campaign against her, the 1923 actor shared the link on his Instagram story on December 23, telling his followers, "For the love of god read this," alongside a red heart and Blake Lively's Instagram handle.

Brandon also took to his Instagram stories after the movie premiered in August 2024, saying "What may or may not have happened behind the scenes does not and hopefully should not detract from what our intentions were in making this film."

"There isn't a single person involved in the making of this film that was not aware of the responsibility we had in making this," he continues, adding that "villifying" the women involved in bringing the story to life "detracts what this film is about."

"Colleen and the women of this cast stand for hope, perseverance, and for women choosing a better life for themselves," he says.

Check out what Brandon Sklenar had to say about an It Starts With Us movie, and read the latest news on his new rowing biopic, The Olympian.
