How to Make Sneakers Feel Fancy Just Like These It-Girls

Last month, It-girl Hailey Baldwin was spotted sporting a groundbreaking #OOTD at a pal’s wedding, and we haven’t been able to get her outfit out of our heads since. Sneakers, people — the girl rocked sneakers — breaking the mold and setting a whole new standard for “I do” occasions. The idea is genius — swanky events often involve a lot of standing (or let’s be real — dancing) and any opportunity to ditch the heels in favor of a pair of comfy shoes must be seized. The secret to pulling it off? Make sure the rest of your ensemble brings the polish in a big way (think: sculptural earrings, fancy finishes — bring on the sequins! — and sophisticated silhouettes).

And there’s one more thing: Leave the beat-up Converse at home. Just because you’re breaking with tradition doesn’t mean you can let your sartorial guard down. Opt for elevated styles a la Baldwin’s ballerina-inspired steppers, or look for kicks with unique details such as metallic finishes, glitzy embellishments, or pearl accents.

Do like your girl Hailey and put a pair of sleek sneakers at the center of your “I do” fashion. Equal parts feminine and urban-cool, they offer an easy way to stay true to your athleisure aesthetic while scoring serious style points. To put on a sophisticated twist on your sporty chic steppers, pair with a glam slip dress, statement earrings, and a metallic box clutch. Best dressed? You’ve got this in the bag.

Zara Lace-Up Sneakers ($50) + Mango Ruffle Long Dress ($120), CAM “Bad B” Choker ($45), BaubleBar Fatima Drops ($38), Menbur Glitter Box Clutch ($156), Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Nahz Fur Atoo ($20)

Swanky suits and sneakers are a recipe for success, as far as elevated occasions go. Opt for satin styles in dramatic jewel tones to firmly ground the getup in after-dark territory and metallic-trimmed kicks that bring the polish. Layer over a lace-trimmed silk cami for a touch of come-hither appeal, then round out the look with a bold bib necklace and bronze eyeliner FTW.

Topshop Tangle White Trainer ($40) + H&M Tuxedo Jacket & Satin Pants ($35), BaubleBar Morgause Warrior Bib ($68), Topshop Ocean Floral Crossbody Bag ($68), Kosås Stardust ($24), MAKE Cream Gel Liner in Bronze ($23)

Metallics allow these slip-ons to put on a fancy front, meaning you can totally rock sneakers without breaking dress code. For a dinner date with bae or an upcoming charity event, pop these puppies on with a runway-ready jumpsuit, statement belt, and chandelier earrings. Fashion-forward and fuss-free — just the way we like it.

ASOS Dialogue Loafer Sneakers ($31) + Mango Printed Wrap Jumpsuit ($80), BCBG Stone Waist Belt ($88), Ben-Amun Gold-Pleated Bead Earrings ($105), Clare V. Black Double Dutch Pouch ($235), Sonix Melrose ($98), Kevyn Aucoin The Neo Limelight ($58)

Channeling Chanel, these embellished tweed sneakers can do no wrong. For a look that toes the line between flirty and fierce, take a note out of TSwift’s style book and style them alongside a flared midi skirt and shimmery crop top jam-packed with glitz and glamour. Keep the accessories sleek to maintain a modern aesthetic, with a quicksilver clutch, sculptural cocktail ring, and an Instababe-approved choker. Now go ahead and assume your role as life of the party.

Zara Fabric Plimsolls ($70) + Iris & Ink Cressida Asymmetric Stretch Milano-Knit Skirt ($115), H&M Beaded Top ($99), Kenneth Jay Lane Silver-Tone Crystal Choker ($93), ASOS Metallic Box Clutch Bag ($43), Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in Red Smile ($35), Kendra Scott Rosemary Stone Ring ($70)

Since I just harped on all the dreary, outdated shoe trends for 2025, it's only fair I give you all the options you should wear in the new year! I also heard you when you said to let people wear what they want... Since I try to be a girl's girl, I want to give you as many exciting shoe trends that'll align with your personal style as well.

Instead of solely relying on my own wits this time, I reached out to Stitch Fix stylish Jessica Sockel; fashion expert and principal of The Curio, Maggie Gillette Sowislo; personal stylist Sarah Brandt of Shop the City; and Rusty Hall, CEO of Mephisto USA. Here's what stylists and fashion experts have to say about all the best shoe trends for 2025!

Scroll for all the 2025 shoe trends your feet — and outfits — will love!

Steve Madden

1. 'Mocha Mousse' Kitten Heel Boots

Don't fight it — this style is back and better than ever. "We have all seen that Pantone has named 'Mocha Mousse' [color of the year], cementing that brown has surpassed black as the go-to neutral," Brandt muses. As for why she believes kitten heels boots will be a popular style in 2025, she believes it's a "super wearable" choice "for the colder weather months."

2. Elevated loafers and flats on par with 'Quiet Luxury'

Did you really think we were done with quiet luxury? This is a trend that "focuses on classic design and high quality materials," according to Hall. After the success of, well, Succession, people aren't ready to let this trend go — and I don't blame them! Hall says, "We’re seeing a movement away from runway and status brands of the past several years, and instead, consumers have been drawn toward the echo of vintage style."

Hall also feels like people are looking to add comfort instead of "overabundance" to their wardrobes. He explained that after the pandemic, "comfort has prevailed as a predominant factor in shopping for footwear." You'll want to steer clear of gaudy designs with this shoe trend, instead reaching for "shoes with premium construction and materials" that don't have "noisy logos."

If you want a little bit of height, Sockel says "chunky loafers became a go-to for achieving the 'Prep School' aesthetic." She also saw that "ballet flats were a top request, with 38% of shoppers seeking ways to style them."

3. Low profile sneakers

This year saw the rise of the 'errand' or everyday sneaker. Hall says, "In contrast to the chunky sneaker silhouette, low-profile sneakers have been trending in 2024, and expect to see that trend continue in 2025."He adds that they're "defined by the upper confirming closely to the foot and lack of support around the ankle" making them "exceptionally versatile".

Both he and Brandt agree that the "iconic Adidas Sambas" are the driving force behind this with the latter adding, "But as they can be hard to come by, I’m seeing some alternate sneakers take the stage — particularly the Adidas SL72, and Onitsuka Tigers, especially the Mexico 66s."

If you need inspo for how to style them! Hall has a couple of tips because "the timeless low-profile look isn't going anywhere." He feels pairing them with "bell bottoms or flare-legged jeans" because they "create a long, clean line."

4. Colorful shoes

The world already feels like a mess sometimes — why not be bold and have fun with your outfits?! While you continue leaning into the red and burgundy shades that continued to trend this year, Hall feels that "turquoise, fuchsia, and yellow tones will brighten up this spring from the past couple of seasons of neutrals."

Another outfit tip he has is to "opt for white and soft ecru shades in the rest of the outfit" as this will "help these bold colors speak for themselves."

5. T-Strap Shoes

If you're still watching The Great Gatsby, you may be familiar with what Gillette Sowislo calls the "new shoe profile." In other words, she feels they're "an update on the Mary Jane trend we've been seeing for a few seasons."

We couldn't get enough of the revival of this that trend so it's going to be exciting to see you and other shoppers rock them with your 2025 outfits. Honestly, Sowislo is sure that "this versatile design can be found in flats, heels, and wedges."

6. Wooden Platform Shoes

Wooden platform shoes are having their comeback moment; more notably clogs. Sowislo says, "Since Chloe designer Chemena Kamali decked out the front row of her show in matching wood-bottomed platform sandals, the trend for boho-inspired shoes has risen. These can look like the playful platforms she debuted or be a more practical pair of everyday clogs."

Sockel added, "Looking ahead, we [Stitch Fix] predict a shift toward heeled shoes—think chic booties, clogs, and sandals—that pair seamlessly with oversized jeans and a simple tee for an effortlessly polished Easy Street look."

You'd think someone with acne-prone skin wouldn't buy viral beauty finds without doing thorough research, but I'm not above trying to recreate all the latest makeup trends at home. All this did was remind me that everything isn't for everyone — and that's okay! Well...it's not okay I fee like I wasted money, but at least I know what to stay away from. And now I'm here to help you figure out what to avoid as well!

Even though this products didn't work for me, that doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't use them. These are just my least faves of the year — take 'em or leave 'em!

Here are all the overrated beauty finds I wish I wouldn't have bought

Amazon

1. MILK Hydro Grip Primer

I should've known better than to buy this again, but I wanted to see if my skin would react better to it. The first time I tried to use this, I broke out along my jaws in tiny, red bumps. They were itchy and eventually turned into dark spots that took me over a year to get rid of.

Instead of letting that be the red flag that kept me away from this beauty find, I decided to use it in place of my trusted e.l.f. Cosmetics Power Grip Primer I've been relying on. Two things happened:

  1. It created a beautiful base for my makeup.
  2. I didn't break out, but my faced still felt itchy.

I even switched my makeup brushes and checked to make sure other makeup products weren't expired. The culprit continued to be this primer so it's made it to my overrated list.

Amazon

2. KORA Organics Kakadu Plum Vitamin C Serum

I was initially sent this to test, but I decided to buy it myself to see if I truly like it. While it was easy to add to my skincare routine lineup, I realized I actually didn't need to spend $70+ for an effective Vitamin C serum. The only difference between this serum and the one I truly love are their colors and textures.

This one has a slightly yellowish-orange tint to it while being a little thicker compared to the Timeless Skin Care Vitamin C serum I use. The latter is thinner and 100% transparent, plus the odor is slightly stronger. However, both of them aid in smoother skin, smaller pores, and a healthy glow.

I honestly wouldn't buy this one again just because I can get the same benefits for a lesser price.

Amazon

3.NYX Cosmetics Fat Oil Lip Drip

This is a controversial take, but I honestly didn't love the NYX Fat Oil Lip Drip. Although I love the color payoff, it was too sticky for my liking. I saw reviews that mentioned this, but I've purchased lip glosses other people didn't love that worked for me in the past. However, the reviews are telling the truth: the stickiness takes away from what could've been a great formula.

I'll just stick to my Tower 28 Lip Softie Hydrating Lip Treatment in Ube Vanilla!

Amazon

4. L'Oréal Voluminous Panorama Washable Mascara

I know people love this beauty find because it is great. I just didn't think the hype was enough to convince me to buy it again because my essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara gets the job done for $5. I will say I love the washable feature of L'Oréal's version, but it's still not enough to make me willingly spend over $10 for it.

As great of a product as this is, it's overrated to me because of the price tag.

Sephora

5. Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech Medium Coverage Foundation

Sigh...it's so hard for me to admit this, but this Haus Labs foundation has become my most overrated beauty find of 2024. It's not that it doesn't work for a few hours, but my skin prefers tinted moisturizers more than anything. I talked about it briefly on TikTok, but skin tints feel like you're not wearing anything on your face.

I'm always really oily after wearing this foundation for a few hours, but I can get extended wear out of the Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Tint I've been wearing. I like to think it's because it has vegan collagen, ceramides, and cactus extract in it whereas this foundation has ingredients like fermented arnica in it.

Both do a great job of calming inflammation, but something about this foundation makes my skin think it's incredibly dry.

Why choose between comfort and practicality when you can have both with cozy house shoes that work just as well outside as they do inside? These 11 house shoes are perfect for lounging around at home, stepping out to grab the mail, or picking up a quick coffee – they’ll all definitely keep your feet warm and supported, no matter where the day takes you!

Get ready to upgrade your at-home footwear game with these comfy and chic house shoes. You’ll never want to take them off!

SeaVees

SeaVees Tiburon Trekkers

I have these slip-ons, and I truly wear them everywhere. From the climbing gym to coffee shops and grocery stores, they're so comfy, and they've only gotten comfier as I've worn them more.

Though I wear 'em out pretty frequently, I tend to reach for them the most as house shoes to protect my feet (and also keep them warm!) for walking my dog, household chores, and work-from-home days.

The suede upper material makes them the perfect elevated-yet-casual shoe for staying in or going out, plus they boast a durable Vibram sole that easily stands up to outside terrain.

Anthropologie

UGG Tazz Platform Slippers

One thing UGG truly nails in the way of house shoes is warmth. Their signature lining (in this case, made of upcycled wool) is perfectly dense and soft, so you never have to worry about your toesies getting too cold.

What seals the deal on this pair in particular for me is their trend-factor – all the cool girls are wearing UGGs at the moment. The platform soles give you a nice boost, too, so you're not stuck leaving the house for errands in a scuffed-up, worn-flat slipper.

Nordstrom

Dearfoams Fireside Sydney Genuine Shearling Scuff Slippers

You'll also get so much warmth from these house shoes' 100% Australian sheepskin lining. It's designed to regulate temperatures, so your feet won't feel overly hot or cold – just right! I simply adore this cozy baby pink color, plus how easy the style is to slip on and off.

Amazon

Knuaka Happy Face House Shoes

These house shoes earn major style points in my book. The happy face just makes me happy! The faux fur material they're made of reminds me of boucle, which is oh-so bougie.

These are also fitted with a memory foam insole, so you can step and stand in them for hours on end without pesky foot pain. The outsoles are dense and durable so you can easily walk on pavement when it's time to leave the house.

Chacos

Chacos Ramble Rugged Canvas Clogs

Chacos describes these clogs as a "hoodie for your feet," and suddenly, I need them. The soft fleece lining undoubtedly make these feel like proper house shoes, though the water-resistant canvas upper and textured outsole come prepared for any terrain.

I would absolutely invest in these to wear outdoor rock climbing or camping, but let's be real – I would never take them off when I'm at home. I'm particularly obsessed with the adjustable strap that always ensures a snug, cozy fit.

Free People

Laidback London Jude Slippers

These moccasin-esque slippers are sturdy enough for indoor and outdoor wear, thanks to the high-quality rubber soles. The shearling lining looks insanely warm and cozy, whether you wear 'em with or without socks.

They're definitely stylish enough that you could easily style them with cuffed jeans and a vintage cable knit sweater for when you need to beat a case of cabin fever. Obsessed!

Birkenstock

Birkenstock Zermatt Shearling Slippers

Though your regular ol' Birkenstock Bostons could suffice as house shoes, these slippers are specifically designed to wear around your place. While the outer portion of these shoes is made from a low-pile wool, the insides are lined with genuine shearling for maximum warmth. Plus, how cute is this pop of red?!

L.L. Bean

L.L. Bean Daybreak Scuffs

L.L. Bean makes the cutest house shoes around – specifically these slides that come in multiple colorways with a variety of motifs. Shoppers have said that these make "a great slipper with a little whimsy," which already has me sold! Your cold feet will certainly fall in love with the super-soft fleece lining on these babies.

Anthropologie

UGG Tasman Crafted Regenerate Slippers

UGG strikes again! These almost remind me of boat shoes, so you could surely take them outside to run errands or attend a book club meeting. They're lined with 60% upcycled wool and 40% TENCEL Lyocell to keep your steps extremely warm and comfortable. I love the stitching and paneling on the outer part for added visual interest!

Teva

Teva ReEmber Terrain Slip-Ons

If you're not super into heavily-lined house shoes, these Teva slip-ons are perfect for you. They're beloved by outdoorsy people because they're an easy, comfy shoe to slip into after long backpacking trips or painstaking climbing sends.

The foam footbed is unbelievably cushy, so every step will feel like pure heaven. The outsole is quite the opposite – it's super durable and fitted with enough traction to grip outdoor terrain. If you are craving a bit more warmth at home, just layer 'em up with some cute socks!

Amazon

EverFoams Fuzzy Open-Toe Slippers

These slippers balance warmth breathability perfectly, thanks to their open-toe design. I like that the double straps look a bit more polished than if they were to have just one. The faux fur material on the upper and memory foam insoles work together to deliver all-day comfort to your feet, while the non-slip rubber soles can truly handle any surface – inside or out.

Studio McGee has spent the last decade inspiring us with a blend of accessible and elevated designs, creating beautiful and totally livable spaces. In her 2025 Home Decor Trends report, Shea McGee emphasizes that home decor trends evolve gradually over time, and I couldn’t agree more. Unlike the fast-paced world of fashion, where trends shift every season, these design moves develop organically over time, and that's good for your wallet and taking your time to create a space you love. Get inspired to refresh your home in 2025 with a few new accents, from embellishments like fringe to maybe a little western or seaside art.

Here are Studio McGee's 2025 Home Decor Trend Predictions, with a few surprises!

Photo: Shade Degges | Design: Studio Mountain

Romantic Silhouettes

Take Romantic Silhouettes, for example. This is a trend we've seen steadily gain traction over the past few years. Think curvy furniture, delicate floral prints, and soft blush hues — when curated thoughtfully, these elements can become timeless staples in your home.

Western Cowboy

This is a design trend that totally surprised me, but I'm so happy to see it in the mix. Elements like leather furniture, rustic accessories, equestrian art, even wood walls, shown in this office designed by A1000XBetter, are making an impact in 2025 and beyond. But Shea notes that you can take this trend literally or just be inspired by the look. You can also mix it with other styles to personalize it for you. Add romantic pillows or ruffled tablecloths like McGee & Co. x Loeffler Randall Gardenia Ruffle Border Tablecloth – things you love that make it yours vs. based solely on one trend.

Gavin Carter| Design: House of Rolison

Saturated Colors

Shea predicts that rich hues like deep browns, oxblood red, and earthy greens will continue to dominate home decor colors going into 2025. House of Rolison's bathroom brown is an excellent example of this beautiful trend.

Pattern Drenching

Embracing a single pattern and drenching an entire room in it — from walls to pillows, headboards, and curtains — is a surprise trend for 2025. This maximalist approach, which has been quietly gaining traction, draws inspiration from Arts and Crafts designers like William Morris and has been in and out of vogue since the Victorian era.

McGee & Co.

Embellishments

This is a trend you can easily DIY to add an extra layer of charm to your decor. Think playful details like fringe accents —beautifully shown in McGee & Co.'s Philippa Settee — along with tassels, pleats, ruffles, and rope. It’s all about embracing texture and whimsy, so have fun with it!

McGee & Co.

Seaside Inspiration

Coastal decor has long been an influence in design and you can be inspired by it in many forms, from shell accents to beach-inspired artwork like McGee & Co.'s Distant Coastline art to textured seagrass baskets and jute rugs. Even the soothing hues of the sea — think soft blues, sandy neutrals, and gentle greens — can inspire your 2025 spaces.
