How to Find the Most Flattering Jeans Without Leaving Your Home

Finding the perfect jeans is one of life’s greatest mysteries and intense undertakings. Luckily, the ladies over at NYDJ are here to make the journey to the best-fitting pair a little easier. The denim brand, known for pioneering slimming technology, is turning the process of finding flattering jeans into a bona fide party. This summer, they introduced NYDJ Fit Parties, a program that brings a specialist straight to your home so you and your nearest and dearest can be outfitted in style.

We chatted with Kate Foster, the CMO and EVP of NYDJ (that’s a lot of letters people!) about why denim is actually perfect for the warm-weather season, what moves to make when testing a pair of jeans, and the benefits of trying on styles with friends. (Photo via NYDJ)

Watch the video below to find out all her secrets and tips.

As if you needed more reasons to love this label, NYDJ also recently launched a charity initiative called Clothes4souls. Through Clothes4souls, NYDJ will donate one item of clothing to benefit women in need for every pair of jeans that are tried on in 2017. And now you don’t even have to leave your home to meet your denim soulmate.

Swoon.

Ask anyone who knows me and they'll tell you I'm consumed with fashion, but you know what makes me want to burn things down to the ground? It's trying to find pants or jeans that flatter my petite height. For reasons beyond my control, I'm in the 5'2" club which makes finding short girl-friendly clothes harder than it needs to be, ugh!

From boot-cut to skinny jeans, I'm picky about what I buy because I've been known to look like a tiny, angry chipmunk who's been forced to wear something against her will. Chipmunks are cute, but I'm sure they wouldn't want to wear anything ill-fitting and I'm sure you feel the same!

Keep scrolling to find the best petite jeans that anyone 5'3" and under can confidently wear!

Madewell

Madewell Petite Superwide-Leg Jeans

As a former wearer of skinny jeans, I've been on the wide-leg train for a while. They're roomier IMO and give me reassurance that I won't unnecessarily rip a seam when bending down. Particularly, I live in this pair by Madewell. They're the perfect wash and elongate my frame!

Style tip: I usually wear ankle strap pump heels with them for an elevated look!

J.Crew Factory

J.Crew Factory Wide-Leg Crop Jean

I don't wear cropped jeans often, but J. Crew encouraged me to take a risk with this pair. The waist area reminds me of Madewell's Superwide-Leg design, but distressed hem makes them look less stuffy. I've purchased ankle jeans before and the fit was terrible so I was pleasantly surprised at how great these look on me!

Express

Express High Waisted Light Wash Jeans

These light wash jeans are also cropped, but the hem is more straight-forward than J. Crew's version. I usually wear this pair when my household has doctor's or dentist's appointments because they have an air of comfortability about them. When you're on the go, it's important to be able to move around when you need to!

Banana Republic Factory

Banana Republic Factory Mid-Rise Straighter Carpenter Jeans (Petite)

The first thing that drew me to these jeans are their Ecru color. The second is how well they fit when I tried them on in-store. Lengthwise, they stop slightly below my ankles which is good when I actually want to show off my shoes. Sometimes I don't want to go for the oversized wide-leg look so these are always a good alternative for me.

Pistola

Pistola Petite Lana High Rise Wide Leg Jeans

It's true — I'm preoccupied with this style of jeans. Aside from Madewell, Pistola has the best feeling denim I've had the pleasure of wearing. This pair specifically doesn't feel stiff, but they don't get wrinkled either! Also, the hem doesn't drag the ground which is a nice change from the pairs I own that do this.

Good American

Good American Petite Skate Jeans

Here's the thing — skate jeans were popular when I was in middle school. A few of my former friends used to wear them with Vans so I'll always have a soft spot for them. The only thing I don't recommend doing is wearing them on rainy days because that wet feeling on your ankles feels weird.

Ann Taylor

Ann Taylor Petite Cuffed Palazzo Jean

I never knew the words "cuffed" and "palazzo" could fit in the same sentence, but Ann Taylor's made me a believer. These jeans take business casual to the next level because of their darker wash and overall fit. They're not too "skinny" or "wide," giving you the perfect invitation to wear a slightly oversized blazer with them. At least that's what I do.

Talbots

Talbots Everyday Relaxed Jeans (Plus-Sized Petite)

I'm not necessarily plus-sized but I added these relaxed jeans because one of my friends can't stop raving about them! She doesn't necessarily love the wide-leg look so having something that fits her frame and is easy to style works with however she feels like dressing on any given day.

Citizens of Humanity

Citizens of Humanity Petite Micro Relaxed Jeans

Are they relaxed or barrel jeans? It truly depends on how you want to classify them. According to Citizens of Humanity, they're the petite jeans everyone needs in their closet. Okay, I'm imagining that was the general consensus when they were designed.

Anthropologie

Pilcro Kenna Mid-Rise Barrel Jeans

These are definitely barrel jeans and I love them! I tried a pair from a different brand last year and couldn't stand the way they looked on me, but Pilcro gets it right! The wash also has a very earthy tone to it, making it a good complement to brown, taupe, and cream tones!

Reiss

Reiss Petite Skinny Jeans

Did you think I'd really leave skinny jeans off this list? I'm appalled! Jokes aside, I'm not against wearing them and found that I have specific requirements for the leg huggers. They have to look streamlined and can't make me feel like I have to peel them off my skin so I can breathe. It just so happens this pair understands the assignment.

L'AGENCE

L'AGENCE Leighton Cropped Stovepipe Jeans

What has cute red seams with a cuffed and cropped hem? L'AGENCE's pair of stovepipe jeans. They make me feel like I'm reliving the pair Olivia Newton-John wore in the original Grease so I try to slip into them when I'm feeling a little edgy.

P.S. Do you see the the slightly curved waistline??

Some outfit combos are effortlessly chic, and others, well, look like your closet had a full-blown identity crisis. Now don’t get me wrong – I am all for playing with “unconventional” outfit pairings. Ignoring fashion faux pas and experimenting with varying textures, patterns, colors, and silhouettes can be very fun, but only as long as it works. These 6 “weird” outfit combos, however, do not.

Avoid throwing off your whole look by taking note of these 6 “weird” outfit combos that just look wrong.

1. Flare Jeans + Sneakers

Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie & Fitch High Rise Vintage Flare Jeans

This is one outfit combo I wholeheartedly believe should be worn separately: flare jeans + sneakers.

New Balance

New Balance 530 Sneakers

Pairing flare jeans with sneakers (especially more technical or athletic styles) truly ruins the whole ‘fit. While flare jeans are definitely more retro, sneakers have a modern feel that easily clashes. Plus, you don’t want to add more bulkiness at your ankles and make your look, well, look sloppy.

Free People

We The Free Good Luck Mid-Rise Barrel Jeans

Instead, save your flare jeans to wear with heels or tall boots, and rock your fave walking sneaks with trendier jean styles like mom jeans or barrel jeans.

2. Socks + Sandals

Doublesoul

Doublesoul Bekah High Socks

If you know, you know. Socks and sandals can be super cool, but only really when you’re kickin’ it at the campsite. Otherwise, it can make your outfit look conflicting, because while sandals are meant to be breathable, socks add an unnecessary layer of bulk that fully defeats their purpose.

3. Denim + Denim

Anthropologie

Mother The Loop De Loop Denim Jacket

Hear me out: denim on denim can definitely be done in a very stylish way. I love rocking a Canadian tux every once in a while, but only when I know for sure that the washes of denim I’m wearing are matching!

Urban Outfitters

BDG Shelly Boxy Denim Chore Jacket

If the shades of denim you’re wearing don’t match or complement each other, your ‘fit can really lack balance, and people won't be able to tell whether you’re wearing it confidently or ironically.

4. Turtlenecks + Shorts

Quince

Quince Mongolian Cashmere Fisherman Turtleneck Sweater

This “weird” outfit combo is weather confusion at its finest. While turtlenecks give off a cozy, cold-weather vibe, shorts scream summertime. This extreme contrast can make your look very bare-bones and generally odd.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie & Fitch Sloane Tailored Shorts

If you really want to wear these pieces together, opt for a lightweight turtleneck top to wear with tailored shorts for warmer weather – the less-bulky layers will make more sense together. Plus, you’ll be more polished.

5. Tights + Jorts

Target

A New Day Viney Floral Tights

This throwback look has not aged well – though we used to see a ton of people wearing tights or leggings underneath their jean shorts in the early 2010s, it just looks tacky nowadays.

Free People

We The Free Tippi Denim Shorts

The combo can often look outdated and overly layered, as if you couldn't commit to wearing just shorts or just tights. It’s just confusing – opt to wear one or the other!

6. Flip Flops + Cargo Pants

Target

Shade & Shore Palmer Square Toe Flip Flops

It’s giving Justice and Limited Too vibes… but those stores are in our past for a reason! Flip flops and cargo pants also boast a sense of confusion because while flip flops are inherently laidback and beachy, cargo pants are bulky and often made to be more functional (something flip flops are totally not).

Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie & Fitch Baggy Cargo Pull-On Pants

Since cargo pants take up more room on your silhouette, they can also highlight an obvious imbalance if you’re wearing low-profile flip flops.

One Tree Hill fans were heartbroken (and a little bit confused) when season 6 ended and Peyton (Hilarie Burton) and Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) left without a trace. It had been a season of danger, life-threatening situations, and literal murder, and for two of the show's leads to just fall off the face of the earth felt inconsistent with how tight-knit the friend group had always been. And viewers weren't the only ones to think so.

"This is the problem: They didn't give us enough to make where our friends went make sense," Drama Queens host Sophia Bush said of the "unfortunate" decision to write Hilarie and Chad out of the show. (Hilarie has said in a previous episode of the rewatch podcast that both her and Chad were "treated badly, and he defended me...Chad was my teammate.")

Keep reading for what Sophia Bush, Bethany Joy Lenz, and Robert Buckley's thoughts on Peyton and Lucas leaving One Tree Hill.

Sophia Bush thought Peyton and Lucas leaving 'One Tree Hill' was "really weird."

Warner Bros. TV

One Tree Hill season 6 ended after Peyton almost died giving birth to her and Lucas' daughter, and after introducing baby Sawyer to the rest of the crew, they just...drive off into the sunset.

"I don't even remember where they moved. Where did they go?" Bethany Joy Lenz says, to which Robert Buckley replies, "They left in a convertible, so I'm gonna guess maybe the West Coast where it's a bit warmer and less rainy."

But no matter where Peyton and Lucas moved, the One Tree Hill cast can't quite wrap their heads around the fact that, in the story, Brooke literally never hears from Peyton again. "I used to ask, 'Why can't Brooke [Davis] be getting text messages from Peyton? Why can't you see them texting? Like, why am I not getting photo updates of this baby? It feels really weird.'"

And while Lucas returns for an episode in season 9, he was also radio silent for his three-season absence, as was his mom Karen. "Everybody, they just faded off into the distance," Bethany says. "I do wish they had kept that up in some more clear way. I don't think it would have been hard."

While Bethany Joy Lenz think is was because of "personal beef" behind the scenes.

But Bethany theorizes the onscreen confusion boils down to behind-the-scenes drama with creator Mark Schwann, whom the cast accused of sexual harassment in 2017. The women of the show wrote an open letter explaining how “many of us were, to varying degrees, manipulated psychologically and emotionally," and how "more than one of us is still in treatment for post-traumatic stress."

"I think it was some sort of personal beef behind the scenes," Bethany adds in the Drama Queens episode. "He was hoping the audience would just forget about them."

"Which seems so stupid because it's a choice rooted in ego," Sophia adds. "It's like, 'Dude, you wrote those characters, so you knew they were great. So why are we suddenly pretending they're not?'"

Fred Norris/Warner Bros. TV

Hopefully we'll see all our favorite Tree Hill Ravens return for a One Tree Hill sequel series. While the show hasn't been officially greenlit at Netflix yet, Hilarie Burton exclusively told Brit + Co that everyone involved in the show is "really proud of the work that we did back then too. And so to see the public support this little show we made 20 years later, that's so special and it's so rare."

Colleen Hoover (and her books) aren't afraid to make a statement. BookTok is still reeling from Verity, while the rest of the internet can't stop talking about all the It Ends With Us behind-the-scenes drama. and Hoover's newest adaptation, Regretting You, is just as gripping and emotional as all her other stories. The movie is based on the 2019 novel of the same name, and while It Ends With Us centers around romantic relationships, Regretting You is all about mother-daughter relationships.

What's 'Regretting You' about?

Amazon

Regretting You follows Morgan Grant (played by Allison Williams), who put her dreams on hold years ago when she got pregnant with her daughter Clara (McKenna Grace). Their age gap mirrors the one we see we see between Lorelai and Rory in Gilmore Girls, but instead of the Gilmores' close bond, Morgan and Clara's relationship becomes more strained the older Clara gets — especially when Morgan's husband Chris passes away in a tragic accident, revealing a secret that could change Clara's life forever.

While It Ends With Us is a larger production from Sony, Regretting You will be an indie production. Stay tuned for official production details!

Who's in the 'Regretting You' cast?

Monica Schipper/Arturo Holmes/Getty Images

Allison Williams (Get Out) and McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) lead the Regretting You cast. These two are joined by Dave Franco (Now You See Me), Mason Thames (The Black Phone), Willa Fitzgerald (The Fall of the House of Usher), and Scott Eastwood (Wind River: Rising).

The movie will be directed by The Fault in Our Stars' Josh Boone and written by Susan McMartin.

When does 'Regretting You' come out?

JESHOOTS.com/Pexels

Regretting You comes out on October 24, and it's easily one of our most-anticipated movies for 2025!

Is 'Regretting You' a spicy book?

Pixabay/Pexels

Regretting You definitely has less spice than Colleen Hoover's other books. In fact, this TikToker ranks it as her least-spicy book! Since the story focuses on Morgan and Clara, instead of a romantic relationship, this is a good pick for any readers who prefer less spicy books.

What's the message of 'Regretting You'?

Alexander Grey/Pexels

Regretting You is all about life, which I know sounds like a huge message! But the story introduces us to an established family rather than two people who want to begin a family. Chris, Morgan, and Clara already have relationships with each other, and as time passes in the story, Regretting You shows us how circumstances can change, how overwhelming our emotions can feel, and how strong our family bonds can become.
