I'm Stuck: How to Break Out Of A Post-Grad Rut

motivation for graduates

Living with several recent college graduates, I've seen firsthand how scary being "in limbo" can really be. Whether you think you've got it all figured out or are more confused than ever, building your best life can be daunting. How do you know where to begin? We turned to TikTok and found candid, valuable advice from real people, reminding us you are never alone!

Tip #1: Define and refine your values

a. Don't explain your philosophy, enact it

[tiktok_embed https://www.tiktok.com/@wisdomworkshop/video/6949282848566217989?_d=secCgYIASAHKAESMgowfK9jtjNQ9vnI0oJItrgk4feSOtO3KQcDpIHQnVfYJa0iwQjohRq6suovcRmNni%2FDGgA%3D&checksum=cd6c1fea105d3fcfd5a82bacb1beb728c987b70dfec532b6dcda90dc1f5d15aa&clips_cover_ab=v1&enable_clips=1&language=en&preview_pb=0&sec_user_id=MS4wLjABAAAAJPr9FesY978sS0iJxZcDOUc29p-q_TcCgGzpo7SKHFwN--1X9ENxU27jKQj8k3dI&share_app_id=1233&share_item_id=6949282848566217989&share_link_id=FA847B23-07EF-4288-A388-93B1528B0739&source=h5_m×tamp=1627492899&tt_from=sms&u_code=d7lk789jk0gjje&user_id=6726725879480239110&utm_campaign=client_share&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=sms&_r=1&is_copy_url=1&is_from_webapp=v1 expand=1]

Defining your values is incredibly important because it lets you understand who you are. However, in order to make better decisions and therefore make forward progress in our lives, it's necessary that you enact your values. In other words, your values hold no meaning if your actions don't reflect them. We are what we repeatedly do, and by enacting your values, you make space for the truest version of yourself to show up.

b. You teach people how to treat you

[tiktok_embed https://www.tiktok.com/@ally_yost/video/6931105400871750917?_d=secCgYIASAHKAESMgowJPxMyfzRC9uEHuLKf%2BMd9x9tanarjCcBaE1ChLKr1g3bRu9kS99TK3n6M0N6%2F4HZGgA%3D&checksum=d909e44a0080b2c12080a5a612cd58920ff22e9daa4ad042565c20fb0fa1dee2&clips_cover_ab=v1&enable_clips=1&language=en&preview_pb=0&sec_user_id=MS4wLjABAAAAJPr9FesY978sS0iJxZcDOUc29p-q_TcCgGzpo7SKHFwN--1X9ENxU27jKQj8k3dI&share_app_id=1233&share_item_id=6931105400871750917&share_link_id=1463A1D3-13AC-447E-83DE-9C385384E29B&source=h5_m×tamp=1627492861&tt_from=sms&u_code=d7lk789jk0gjje&user_id=6726725879480239110&utm_campaign=client_share&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=sms&_r=1&is_copy_url=1&is_from_webapp=v1 expand=1]

Value yourself enough so that others do too, as this will become the standard to which others hold you. Set high boundaries and standards for yourself, because that will reflect itself in your relationships with yourself and others. Envision how you want to be treated and begin to act that way to yourself. This includes: being your own self-hype woman, taking that extra minute to watch the sunset, or changing into that pair of comfy clothes way earlier than what you consider "acceptable".

Tip #2: Remember that it's mind over matter

a. You are not your emotions

[tiktok_embed https://www.tiktok.com/@itsrebeccaslaughter/video/6921577549743000837?_d=secCgYIASAHKAESMgow4iHQOwofntms7Cd4Ps2FsSsCCP0B6ObQlRooSgV%2BDQcZi3NAoC%2FU%2BZSN%2FzV8vwc0GgA%3D&checksum=94487cba3ff0c6008ef47f265859639d189fcd656ac5d89829c9463eb77d1c62&clips_cover_ab=v1&enable_clips=1&language=en&preview_pb=0&sec_user_id=MS4wLjABAAAAJPr9FesY978sS0iJxZcDOUc29p-q_TcCgGzpo7SKHFwN--1X9ENxU27jKQj8k3dI&share_app_id=1233&share_item_id=6921577549743000837&share_link_id=E45FD101-1B27-4B0E-8863-2BD7570D8501&source=h5_m×tamp=1627493746&tt_from=sms&u_code=d7lk789jk0gjje&user_id=6726725879480239110&utm_campaign=client_share&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=sms&_r=1 expand=1]

As this TikTok influencer explains, your emotions will always be there. What matters, then, is not letting those emotions dictate how you live your life.

b. Your thoughts don't change your fact

[tiktok_embed https://www.tiktok.com/@betterhelp/video/6948052224610143494?_d=secCgYIASAHKAESMgowYL8sA4sx9jt13V6C3DWxpC9XbJVBKaGbNgG9uP84TAFTj9eHwm4TQ73og5xnMjK5GgA%3D&checksum=9cefa7c035fbe5f27513fcec9c3bb7da1023790ad50498ad8075a50276adc2a5&clips_cover_ab=v1&enable_clips=1&language=en&preview_pb=0&sec_user_id=MS4wLjABAAAAJPr9FesY978sS0iJxZcDOUc29p-q_TcCgGzpo7SKHFwN--1X9ENxU27jKQj8k3dI&share_app_id=1233&share_item_id=6948052224610143494&share_link_id=3A20818C-2C5B-4C23-BAF7-D9223ECC8887&source=h5_m×tamp=1627493366&tt_from=sms&u_code=d7lk789jk0gjje&user_id=6726725879480239110&utm_campaign=client_share&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=sms&_r=1 expand=1]

Mindset has a great impact on our outlook and how we act on that perception. When thoughts bring feelings such as anxiety, depression, fear or worry, it can be easy to listen to the negative thoughts and ignore the positive. However, what you think does not change what is. Therefore, if your mind says you're stuck, don't listen!

Tip #3: Form and maintain healthy habits

a. Get good at what interests you

[tiktok_embed https://www.tiktok.com/@matthiasjbarker/video/6982370603504389381?_d=secCgYIASAHKAESMgowTuPnDozJ7cYkqh93Z%2Brm0Hi%2FhO8IoNXKKizdHRsFa2ZdA6154QK5qj5FTPw0QWcOGgA%3D&checksum=6cc9c6280814e93a6520116ca3b75fad032a935a714a0885bf34496cd915ca6d&clips_cover_ab=v1&enable_clips=1&language=en&preview_pb=0&sec_user_id=MS4wLjABAAAAJPr9FesY978sS0iJxZcDOUc29p-q_TcCgGzpo7SKHFwN--1X9ENxU27jKQj8k3dI&share_app_id=1233&share_item_id=6982370603504389381&share_link_id=C1E13249-3310-43A9-B14F-BF2090FEBC56&source=h5_m×tamp=1627493479&tt_from=sms&u_code=d7lk789jk0gjje&user_id=6726725879480239110&utm_campaign=client_share&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=sms&_r=1 expand=1]

Find things that grab your attention and get you asking questions, but do so without putting pressure on yourself to make it great. Commit to following your interests as they come and go, and remind yourself that spending a day pursuing a hobby is not a lifetime commitment. Rather, cherish even the smallest interests as little glimmers of opportunities through which you can grow and foster a sense of self-appreciation.

b. 10/10/10 Worksheet

[tiktok_embed https://www.tiktok.com/@janelleinthedesert/video/6929961962059123973?_d=secCgYIASAHKAESMgowoSV3xIBXuGDqSYwErnXBdad%2BmpAmVlP8X1sE%2FQ7qni1sDdCXFVCZOqkS14eTdph4GgA%3D&checksum=c5df9fbc1c299750a48a4e00f193b952eae73fb10c9439b93f91d8ee2e9baab3&clips_cover_ab=v1&enable_clips=1&language=en&preview_pb=0&sec_user_id=MS4wLjABAAAAJPr9FesY978sS0iJxZcDOUc29p-q_TcCgGzpo7SKHFwN--1X9ENxU27jKQj8k3dI&share_app_id=1233&share_item_id=6929961962059123973&share_link_id=009350C6-50CE-4AEB-97DB-578F00AC3D63&source=h5_m×tamp=1626203522&tt_from=sms&u_code=d7lk789jk0gjje&user_id=6726725879480239110&utm_campaign=client_share&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=sms&_r=1 expand=1]

Create a worksheet with 3 columns, 10 bullet points each. Label the columns "desires", "gratitude", and "what I love to do" and fill out as desired. This will help ground you.

c. Emotions are like movies: watch them but don't absorb them

[tiktok_embed https://www.tiktok.com/@loriwheeler/video/6963252695884991749?_d=secCgYIASAHKAESMgowCzoqyi%2BCkatTmdxd%2Ff8QWlKa6x3MTwZZ7e0HJDHjo%2BMp7GD4o4yOZwZwC%2BK25THhGgA%3D&checksum=ab5d2b99ec2be7987de1391bff5c40bb81f6f5151ab2e602f919d4fded34fad3&clips_cover_ab=v1&enable_clips=1&language=en&preview_pb=0&sec_user_id=MS4wLjABAAAAJPr9FesY978sS0iJxZcDOUc29p-q_TcCgGzpo7SKHFwN--1X9ENxU27jKQj8k3dI&share_app_id=1233&share_item_id=6963252695884991749&share_link_id=DD1C195E-2BF1-4C2B-B19A-DD69F4FDE798&source=h5_m×tamp=1626203767&tt_from=sms&u_code=d7lk789jk0gjje&user_id=6726725879480239110&utm_campaign=client_share&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=sms&_r=1 expand=1]

As many times as I've wished to be transported into one movie world or the next, it's nice to end the film back in my own home. Similarly, as you spend time with yourself and others, observe others' (and your own) emotions without absorbing that energy. Being a passive observer instead of a passive absorber will help ultimately strengthen your relationships and overall self-love.

d. 6 self-care hacks that are truly important

You've heard these before but there's a reason they're constantly repeated: it's the truth! Schedule "you" time, get enough sleep, journal, nourish yourself with foods you like, and get moving!

Last, listen to Tik-Tok's hype woman to remind you who's boss.

In less than 6 months, I experienced two devastating events that forced me to gauge my relationship with self care. Tough conversations with my inner circle made me aware that I needed to embrace my "soft girl era", but I didn't know where to start. On certain parts of TikTok, it looked like I needed to surround myself with new home decor or beauty buys, while other people implied it's about living a life that's free of stress.

To cut out the noise, I took a break from social media so I could ask myself what I need to thrive. This resulted in me making a temporary decision about my fertility journey, slowly axing out foods that disrupt my hormones, and choosing things that make me feel at peace in my mind, body, and soul.

Uncover 11 ways having a "soft girl era" can help transform your self-care!

1. It Can Help You Examine Your Relationship With Social Media & The News

Ketut Subiyanto/Pexels

Do you have a healthy relationship with social media and the news, or have you been doom scrolling? I'll be the first to say I've had to set strict limits for myself because it's been too easy to stay glued to gossip sites and what's happening in the world. While it's always great to be informed, there is a such thing as information overload that can affect us mentally and emotionally.

Make an effort to find activities to occupy your time sans scrolling endlessly on Instagram, TikTok, or other news platforms.

2. It Allows You To Be Honest With Yourself If You're An Overthinker

Andrea Piacquadio/Pexels

Have you been allowing overthinking to make you feel stressed? If so, you should try writing down or repeating a few phrases to help you calm down. They're such a big help if you have anxiety because they remind you that you can be present in the moment instead of existing solely in your head.

3. It Opens You Up To Asking For Help

Ron Lach/Pexels

This should be in all caps, but I don't want you to think I'm yelling at you. It's just, I know what it's like to be hyper-independent while embodying the traits of a "strong woman." But, there's some things you can't #GirlBoss or #LuckyGirlSyndrome your way out, and it can be devastating if you don't like asking for help maneuvering a tough event.

I'm still processing an emergency situation I was in after what was supposed to be a routine doctor's visit, so I've been out of my element whenever I lean on my family and friends for emotional support. I usually like to deal with sad or scary situations by myself, but not all things are meant to be shouldered by ourselves.

What I can tell you is that asking for help and receiving it makes life a little more peaceful because there's no extra burden of hurting while trying to portray a role society claims it loves.

4. You'll Become Comfortable Journaling Your Thoughts

Tonette Whitted/Dupe

I sound like a broken record, but I feel strongly about journaling your thoughts. It's a way of processing things that have happened and how you feel about them. Also, it can be a place where you create lists of goals, books you want to read, hobbies you want to try, and more!

5. You'll Give Yourself Permission To Rest

Cora Pursley/Dupe

If you can, push the pause button on being available to everyone for a couple of days. Even if you're an extrovert, it never hurts to occasionally stay in bed and do nothing. Take it from someone who has a hard time resting: you're not "lazy" if you're not always going somewhere or talking to someone.

It's completely fine to reset your mind, body, and soul.

6. You'll Begin To Do Nice Things For Yourself

Abigal Westlin/Dupe

Buying myself flowers is one of my favorite things to do in my soft girl era. Instead of waiting for a man to surprise me with a bouquet outside of Valentine's Day, I regularly adorn my home with tulips or sunflowers. They bring a touch of beauty and greenery to my space which helps on WFH days that feel challenging.

7. It's A Great Way To Rediscover Your Love Of Reading

Daniela Lara/Dupe

Can you think of the one book that makes you laugh, smile, and cry tears of joy? If so, that's the book you'll want to keep near your nightstand. It'll help you break up with your dependence on screen time while also giving you a chance to let your imagination fly. The added bonus is that you'll fall back in love with reading!

8. You'll Genuinely Find Ways To Nourish Your Body.

Payton Butler/Dupe

Being a soft girl isn't just about looking good or reaching for fun things, it's also about nourishing your body with healthy meals. Sometimes we eat and drink things that our digestive system doesn't like, so I'm recommending that you make small changes to your meals.

You can create your own Mediterranean bowl à la Cava or aim to eat more fruits and veggies during the week. Whatever you choose, just remember to start small!

9. You May Even Adopt A Sober Lifestyle

Sivan Weitz/Dupe

Whether you know it or not, there's great joy in grabbing a non-alcoholic beverage with your bestie in the city. You can catch up about life, share your dreams or whatever's troubling you, and sip the greenest beverage that beats the idea of eating green eggs and ham. That's right — I'm talking about matcha.

Is it the pretty green hue we can't stop staring at or does it really taste that good? Let's compromise and say it's both!

10. Solo Activities Won't Feel Daunting

Thyra Morton/Dupe

You don't have to be the next Frida Kahlo to enjoy a paint class! I personally like to engage in coloring or painting because it helps me find something else to focus on. Though it seems simple, the art of having a fun hobby you're not trying to perfect or gain profit from sparks your inner kid's joy.

11. The Beach Will Actually Feel Relaxing For Once

Sash Gabriel/Dupe

You deserve a mini vacation that includes putting beach towel down on hot sand near the ocean so you can read your newest TBR pick. It's soothing feeling the sun on your skin while a gentle breeze blows which is why I recommend everyone try to experience it a few times per month.

When I moved into my home in the spring, the windows hadn’t been replaced in over 40 years! With a hot summer and rainy winter approaching, I was worried I’d be dealing with more than just a draft — so I swapped them out for double-pane, energy-efficient ones. Living in sunny California, solar panels were also a no-brainer. But making your home more energy efficient doesn’t have to mean major investments. Here are a few simple, budget-friendly ways to cut down on energy use without spending a fortune. Bonus: You'll save money on your energy bill too!

Here are low-cost ways to make your home more energy efficient.

1. Seal Drafty Doors and Windows

Use weatherstripping, caulk, or even a good old-fashioned draft stopper to prevent warm or cool air from escaping. It’s one of the quickest, cheapest ways to improve energy efficiency

2. Hang Thermal Curtains

Affordable and easy to install, thermal or blackout curtains help keep heat in during winter and block out the sun in summer, easing the load on your HVAC and reducing your heating and cooling costs. Plus, they add cozy style to a room!

3. Swap in LED Bulbs

LEDs use a fraction of the energy of traditional bulbs and last way longer. They’re a small investment that pays off quickly— especially if you swap them out room by room.

4. Use Smart Power Strips

Even when turned off, devices like TVs and computers draw power. Smart power strips cut that “phantom energy” without you needing to remember to unplug anything.

5. Install Low-Flow Showerheads and Faucet Aerators

Low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators are inexpensive, easy to install, and reduce water and energy use (since you’re heating less water).

6. Clean (or Replace) Air Filters Regularly

Dirty filters make your heating and cooling systems work harder, using more energy. Replace filters every 3-6 months for peak efficiency.

7. Wash Clothes in Cold Water

Most detergents are designed to work just as well in cold water, and heating water accounts for a big chunk of your washer’s energy use. Bonus: it’s gentler on your clothes, too so they'll look like new longer!

The White Lotus season 3 wrapped up April 6 (leaving us all in tears with that ending), but don't worry Mike White fans. The White Lotus season 4 is officially coming our way! HBO confirmed the news on January 22, announcing that production on the new season would hopefully begin in 2026. So we can rest easy as we rewatch season 3; we don't have to worry about a cancellation & (too many) unresolved cliffhangers! And after you finish season 3, you can check out the The 6 Best TV Shows To Watch On Max This Month.

Here's everything we know about The White Lotus season 4, coming to HBO and Max soon.

Is there a season 4 of The White Lotus?

Max

Yes, we're officially getting a The White Lotus season 4! It was confirmed near the end of January 2025, ahead of the season 3 release, and I couldn't be happier. Varietyconfirmed that HBO is hoping to start filming in 2026.

"Good news travels fast," the official social media announcement reads. "#TheWhiteLotus is excited to welcome you to a new destination."

Where is the next White Lotus set season 4?

Fabio Lovino/HBO

There's no word on where The White Lotus season 4 will take place, but creator Mike White already has some ideas. "For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the 'crashing waves of rocks' vernacular but there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels," Mike said in an "Inside Episode 8" feature.

HBO programming exec Francesca Oris told Deadline in February that "I can’t really say where we’re going to land but chances are somewhere in Europe."

One X user tweeted that, "We need a winter themed season," and I can't agree more. The only thing messier than summer vacation drama? Drama in Aspen. (Or Norway, considering Mike White reportedly reached out to the Norwegian Film Institute for a filming grant). But producer David Bernad told THR that Mike "hates" the cold, so who knows!

Okay so who's in the White Lotus season 4 cast?

Max

If you're a White Lotus fan, you know we get a new characters every season, and fans are already dreaming up the next cast list. Names like Pedro Pascal, Regina Hall, Pamela Anderson, and Nicola Coughlan have been thrown around, to which I say HECK YES. I'm still holding out for Madelyn Cline too!

When is The White Lotus season 4 coming out?

HBO

We don't have an official release date yet, but considering The White Lotus season 2 was filmed and released in 2022, there's a very good chance that if they begin production on The White Lotus season 4 in early 2026, we'll see episodes that same year!

How does The White Lotus season 3 end?

Fabio Lovino/HBO

We finally figured out who the White Lotus killer is — and who didn't make it out of season 3 alive. When Rick ends up enacting revenge on Jim for the horrible things he said, he ends up shooting Jim in the chest (then learning he was Rick's father).

When Rick and Jim's bodyguards end up in a shootout, Chelsea gets hit by a stray bullet and dies. Rick tries to carry her body away but gets shot by Gaitok, resulting in his death too. Laurie, Jaclyn, and Kate comfort each other after the shooting, Belinda and Zion leave the White Lotus on a private boat while the Ratliffs return to North Carolina, with Timothy promising they'll get through their future trouble as a family.

Is White Lotus supposed to be the Four Seasons?

Jean Paul Montanaro/Pexels

The White Lotus filmed at different Four Seasons locations, and is comparable to a resort like the Four Seasons. I wonder if the Four Seasons baby could be a guest star next year?!

Some of us know that feeling of a post-lunch stomachache all too well, but many of us are still in the dark about how what we’re eating impacts our digestive systems! Some of the most common foods in your daily routine could be the reason behind your bloating, cramps, or general tummy discomfort. These 6 foods might be messing with your gut – here’s how they can trigger pains, aches, indigestion, and more.

P.S. If you're experiencing frequent stomach pain, it might be helpful to keep a food diary and note when any symptoms occur to help you identify specific triggers. If your symptoms persist or worsen, consulting a healthcare professional is a good idea.

Scroll on for 6 foods that commonly cause stomach discomfort.

1. Hot peppers

Hot peppers like jalapeños, serranos, habaneros, and more contain capsaicin, which lends them their spicy heat. Though capsaicin can totally enhance the flavors of certain dishes, it can also irritate the lining of the stomach and intestines, causing pains, cramps, upset bowel movements, acid reflux, or heartburn.

2. Curry spices

Many common curry spices like turmeric, cumin, coriander, and chili powder tend to stimulate stomach acid production. While they can aid digestion when eaten in small amounts, they can be harmful if you're simply sensitive to them or eat ‘em in large doses. If you have a sensitive stomach, you could experience indigestion, bloating, or a burning sensation from certain spices.

3. Milk

Ah, yes – the ol’ lactose intolerance! Milk obviously contains lactose, which is commonly hard to digest. If you’re lactose intolerant or have a sensitive stomach, consuming milk can lead to gas, bloating, cramps, and diarrhea as undigested lactose ferments in the gut.

4. Cheese

Just like milk, cheese contains lactose – though typically in smaller amounts. Nonetheless, it can trigger plenty of tummy problems. Aged cheese in particular can also be high in fat, slowing digestion.

5. Coffee

Coffee is not only naturally acidic on its own, but it also encourages the stomach to produce more acid. This can irritate the stomach lining and contribute to acid reflux, heartburn, or gastritis (AKA inflammation of the stomach lining). On the contrary, it can also speed up digestion, leading to cramping or less-than-ideal bowel movements.

6. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are another naturally acidic food and can trigger acid reflux or heartburn easily. These symptoms are especially prevalent in people with sensitive stomachs or GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). The acidity can also irritate the esophagus and cause a burning sensation or indigestion after eating.
