I Made My Dog Instagram Famous, Here’s How You Can Too

Instagram has become a powerhouse for a lot of things. One of the biggest? Making everyday people pseudo-celebrities. From style bloggers to fitness fanatics, if you’ve got a specific niche with a consistently well-branded aesthetic, you can own a certain space on the Internet. Outside of people though, animals are creating a name for themselves thanks to tech-savvy dog and cat parents. Essentially the next iteration of an Instagram husband. Me? Yeah, I’m totally one of those parents, TBH ;)

Back in 2013 my boyfriend and I were searching for a puppy to call our own. We both grew up with dogs in the house and felt weird living together without the presence of a four-legged greeter running up to us excitedly when we got home from work everyday. Seriously, if you’ve never experienced this, what are you even doing with your life!? So we did a lot of Google searching to decide what breed we could both agree on. We landed on a Boston terrier as they are the perfect mix of what we were both independently looking for — I wanted a dog that would play; my boyfriend wanted one that would cuddle.

Once the breed decision was made, we found a breeder, picked out a puppy and put down a deposit for our pick of the litter when she was just four weeks old.

As we waited another month until we could pick her up and take her home, we mulled over the perfect name for her. Yeah, we made a list and edited it nearly daily. Isn’t that what you did for your own pet? Then we landed on the chosen one — half because I thought of a perfect alliteration Instagram handle and partly because it was not a typical dog name, while playing into our love of food and French culture.

And that’s how Brie, also known on the Internet as @bonjourbrie, was created.

I’m sure you’re thinking, “You chose your dog’s name based off of creating a social media account? Really?” Yes, we did… partially. The reason for that was strategic, and because we’re millennials. For one, I’m in marketing, so I wanted to have a side social media project to test out and creatively expand my skillset. We also didn’t want to be those annoying people on social media flooding their friends’ feeds with dog photos. If they wanted to see endless shots of Brie, they could follow her account. If not, we wouldn’t be harassing them with ’em.

Ever since we got Brie home, we’ve had a lot of fun putting her in adorable, funny and clever situations that has gained traction on her Instagram account far outside of our friend and family social media circle.

Since those early days, she’s been featured in People and Instagram’s calendars (among other things), has become a Barkbox-sponsored influencer and has collaborated with various brands. Oh, and she gets put to work when she comes into the Brit + Co office with regular photo shoot sessions.

So, while Brie is by no means as Internet famous as other Instagram dogs and cats, the 10 tips I’m sharing below are how I’ve been able to grow her following from zero to 7,000 plus. We’ll call that, C-list status in the scheme of things ;) Check ’em out, and become as obsessed with photographing your pet as I am. At the end of the day, it’s not all that bad to be a stage mom, I swear ;)

1. Build a Base: The first step to making your pet famous? Establishing a fan base, obviously. After all, what’s an Instagram famous pup without their loyal followers? Nothing, that’s what ;) To kickstart your search for Internet glory (for your in-house cuddle buddy, that is) you’ve got to follow other animal influencers. Pro-tip: Also follow similar-styled human influencers, too. Reasons for this are: You’ll create a curated feed to pull inspo from for your animal’s future photoshoots, you’ll learn secrets of the social media trade along the way (i.e. brand opportunities) and you’ll (fingers crossed) pop up on those influencers’ radar for a future collab.

2. Endless Creativity Is Key: No matter how out of control adorable your four-legged BFF is, no one wants to see the same photo every single day. Unless you want them to get bored and press the unfollow button. Let your own creativity shine by hopping on timely and trending events (holidays are an easy start) to insert your pet into social media conversations and allow you to break away from the stale (but, of course, cute) puppy-eye snaps. Switch up the location and take them out into different elements, play with camera perspectives by shooting them at different angles, play with product placement to show you can be of use to brands down the road. All of these different and creative visual elements will make your overall feed pop more and get interest from new social media users. Also (major key moment), don’t rely solely on creative images. To complete the total standout package, have some wordplay fun in the captions. Sometimes those stick out just as much, if not more, than the accompanying shot ;)

3. Invest in the Commitment: In time and money. If you really want to make your pet’s feed a success, you’ve got to commit to it. First, financially. Yeah, all of our smartphones have high quality cameras these days, but mirrorless and DSLR cameras still take the best snaps. So go a step above the other accounts, and pick out the real deal. And if you’re feeling extra fancy, amp up your arsenal with any additional bonus equipment you see fit. Oh, and have no fear if you aren’t a pro with the camera — we’ve got an online class for you ;) Same goes for editing those beautifully shot images. Skip the traditional — and kiiiiiinda minimal — Instagram (or VSCO + more) filters, and play with the pros by using Photoshop to perfect your adorable snapshots. Outside of being a financial commitment, making your pooch Instagram famous is also a time commitment. You need to stay consistent with churning out creative content so your growing follower base stays interested, active and engaged. The more active you are, the more engaged your followers will be, leading to expanding interest from new Instagram users.

4. Network: Just like your professional and personal life, it’s vital to your pet’s budding Internet fame to get out their and hawk the hell out of them — digitally and IRL. Head to dog park meetups, attend social media conferences and talk up their Instagram handle whenever you can — like when someone stops you on the street to pet (or just straight up oogle) your dog ;) Also, have some fun with commenters, and reply to people online. The more you interact, the more invested others will be in your animal’s shenanigans as a brand and will (hopefully) become a brand ambassador, unbeknownst to you, in the long run.

5. Become a PR Person: Similar to networking, if you want your fuzzy friend to be a star, you’ve got to present them to the people who can help them get there. Seek out PR contacts, whether that’s in the form of email addresses or social media handles of editors at various media publications. Introduce yourself and your pet’s handle, and make the hard sell that you’d be a great partner for campaigns, or would love to get featured in a roundup or an Instagram shoutout. Even work your way into a social good charity campaign. Whatever angle you can play, do it. However you want to do it, and for whatever outcome you want to do it for, pitch your pet and you’re sure to eventually get some interest.

6. Train: In order to make this fame-seeking task easier and more efficient, you’ve got to teach your pet to actually enjoy posing for the camera. Use treats, toys, squeaking a ball, calling their name and making weird noises. Whatever works to get them to do what you want in front of the camera, that’s the secret training trick for your little guy or gal. If you share parenting, or at least Instagram responsibilities, utilize that assistant to get your dog’s attention while you snap away for even simpler attention-grabbing photo sessions. Oh, and if your pup is not in the mood for a shoot when you are, don’t force ’em to pose. Play with them a little, cuddle them, do whatever they’re currently wanting to do, then circle back later. The photos will turn out better for it — trust and believe.

7. Play the Hashtag Game: Same as with creativity, use hashtags to grab attention during trending topics or to make a name for your pup’s self within a specific breed term (i.e. #bostonterriersofinstagram). But, please (please, please, please), don’t go overboard with that pound sign. Use ’em wisely and sparingly to attract a little extra attention and follower boost. No one wants to see desperation (or feel it exuding from all those # # #).

8. Test Out Different Platforms: Yes, Instagram is the hub of too-cute animal-related content, but why not switch it up and play with other social media platforms to grow your fanbase, or to capitalize on a void in the ‘gram pet space. Think you could turn your pup into a hilarious copywriter that attracts thousands of followers on Twitter? Go ahead and tweet like your dog. Do you personally love to make videos and think your canine would translate better in moving moments versus still images? Give Vine or YouTube a shot. Or go for real time moments with Periscope and Snapchat. Making a social media account is free and easy, so why not test ’em all out to see which one you can capitalize on the most, and go for that one full-force?

9. Be Genuine + Authentic: To really resonate with followers, you’ve got to showcase as real of moments of your dog as possible. Yeah, occasional staged shots are fine, but make every photo feel as natural as possible. Followers should feel like they’re getting a peek inside your dog’s fab life. The less staged and the more real, the better. The more personality you showcase, through both visuals and copy, the more people will connect with your pet. Capture hiking adventures, playtime at the park, cuddle sessions, restaurant visits and more. Whatever your dog’s day to day life is, try and snap a photo of the most engaging moment of it on a daily basis.

10. Become Your Dog: Last but not least, in order to make your pet Instagram famous, you’ve actually got to start acting like them. Yeah, you. They aren’t the ones that are going to be running the account, obviously. So, get a schtick or a gimmick that you can run with, whether that’s a signature pose or something else that makes your pet unique, or a style that’s consistent (i.e. high fashion pup) and run with it. That will make it more entertaining for you as your dog’s social media manager in the long run. Also, people need something special to make them remember your pet, and you’ve got to be able to really get into the character and have fun with it without it becoming burdensome for you and your followers to stay consistently invested. I mean… haven’t you always wanted to be a dog in another life, or is that just me?

BONUS: Always reward your budding Instagram star for their hard work with treats, toys, clothes, walks, playtime, etc. (even if they don’t cooperate in a shoot) aka… let them be the dog they are ;) Now go put these tips to use, and make your pet a social media star.

Audiences loved the way Greta Gerwig's Little Women brought all four March sisters to life, and Netflix's Anne with an E became so popular that when the show was canceled after season 3, 1.7 million fans signed a petition to revive the series. It all just proves that classic adaptations can make the original story even more powerful.

And the newest movie based on a book is going to be one we think about forever — and not just because of its cast. Emerald Fennell (who you'll recognize from The Crown and her work as writer & director on Satburn) is adapting Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights and Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are leading the cast!

The book, published in 1847, continues to grip readers, and it's become the blueprint for moody complexity — just like Emerald Fennell's Promising Young Woman, which won the Oscar for Best Screenplay thanks to its scathing look at sexual assault. Well, the Em's are coming together for this new adaptation.

Here's everything we know about Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights — and your first look at the movie.

The First Set Leaks From 'Wuthering Heights' Have Everyone In A Tizzy

"I am the biggest fan of Wuthering Heights that there is I just really hope I don’t get disappointed," one Instagram user commented.

Everyone lost their minds when leaks of Margot Robbie dressed in a white wedding gown made their way onto the internet. While some Margot fans say the look is "ethereal" and "majestic," others are criticizing the choice to use a white wedding dress since the trend wasn't started until Queen Victoria married in TK.

"begging people in historical movies and shows to realize white wedding dresses where made the norm in the VICTORIAN ERA," @neybitxh said on X. "wuthering heights is set in the Georgian Era no one was wearing white dresses for a wedding."

Here's Your First Look At 'Wuthering Heights'

The first look at Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights is getting some seriously mixed reactions. The photo features a close-up image of someone (maybe Margot Robbie's) with their fingers and a few blades of grass in their mouth.

"CAN NOT WAIT," one Instagram user said, along with a couple fire emojis. But the intimate (and somewhat shocking) image also has some users asking, "what in the saltburn?"

Who's in the new Wuthering Heights movie?

Frazer Harrison/Monica Schipper/Getty Images

The Wuthering Heights cast will be led by Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie as Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, respectively. Here's the cast list:

  • Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw: a young girl torn between her feelings for Heathcliff.
  • Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff: a boy fostered by the Earnshaws who's forced to be a servant.
  • Hong Chau as Nelly Dean: a servant in the Earnshaw household.
  • Alison Oliver as Isabella Linton: One of the Earnshaw's neighbor, whom Heathcliff and Catherine spy on.
  • Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton: Isabella's brother.

In addition to starring, Margot will also produce with her production company LuckyChap, which worked behind the scenes on Emerald Fennell's Saltburn and Promising Young Woman.

While some fans were initially excited about the casting, others were concerned about the fact that in the book, Heathcliff is described as "dark skinned." He also tells Nelly that, "I wish I had light hair and a fair skin, and was dressed, and behaved as well, and had a chance of being as rich as he will be!" Um, it looks like Jacob Elordi definitely has fair skin to me.

"Heathcliff is described as a dark-skinned brown man in the book and a major plot point is that he was subjected to racist abuse by his adopted family. But yeah sure Jacob Elordi is perfect," one tweet (which has over 8 million views) says, while another says, "Film studios will say 'We are committed to diverse casting' and then cast Jacob Elordi to play Heathcliff, one of the more famous people of color in literature, whose race is crucial to both his character and the story."

And when the casting for Edgar and Isabella Linton was announced, one X user said, "Now I’m even more pissed off. They look way more like Heathcliff and Cathy cmon now!!!"

Is Wuthering Heights going to be in theaters?

Focus Features

It appears director Emerald Fennell and producer Margot Robbie are pushing for a theatrical release, which is why they've reportedly turned down a Netflix offer of $150 million.

Despite the fact Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said theatrical releases are "just not our business," and the company has stuck to at-home streaming instead, they did break that pattern for Knives Out: Glass Onion in 2022. The movie appeared in around 600 theaters the day before Thanksgiving, but left a week later ahead of its December 23 debut on the streamer.

Co-CEO Reed Hastings told The Hollywood Reporter that keeping the movie in theaters could have made Netflix more money, but later said they just wanted to "break through the noise" and get movie lovers excited for the film to come to Netflix.

All that to be said, Margot Robbie (whose Barbie made over $1 billion worldwide) and Emerald Fennell (whose Promising Young Woman nabbed her an Oscar win and two other nominations) know how to capture the imaginations of movie lovers everywhere. And it could definitely be in their favor to stick to a theatrical release. Stay tuned for official news on where you can watch Wuthering Heights!

When is Wuthering Heights coming out?

Warner Bros. Pictures

Wuthering Heights will premiere on February 14, 2026. Happy Valentine's Day!

Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights follows the Earnshaws and the Lintons, who are living in the Yorkshire Moors in the 1880s. Their lives change forever when the Earnshaws take in Heathcliff. Like any good dramatic novel, passion lies beneath proper connections, marriages, and societal expectations — and despite Catherine and Heathcliffe's feelings for each other, they have to choose between security and love.

Where is Wuthering Heights filming?

Wuthering Heights is filming right now in the UK. According to Tatler, filming is happening at Sky Studios Elstree in Hertfordshire, and we might see some scenes on location in Yorkshire too.

Reminders of Him isn't the only Colleen Hoover movie we're getting next year — we finally have the Verity release date! After confirmation that Dakota Johnson was starring as Lowen in Colleen Hoover's Verity, I totally wasn't expecting to open my phone and see a video of Dakota in the middle of New York City...covered in blood. It was even more shocking than seeing that crazy The Summer I Turned Pretty leak that's not in the books! If this Verity movie leak proves anything, it's that this movie is going to be just as insane as the book — if not more.

Here's your first look at Dakota Johnson on the set of Verity, coming to theaters May 15, 2026.

When is Verity coming out?

Verity is coming to theaters May 15, 2026 thanks to Amazon MGM Studios. We already know Reminders of Him is coming February 13, which means we're getting two Colleen Hoover movies in the same year! And I'll be seated for both.

Who does Dakota Johnson play in Verity?

Dakota Johnson plays Lowen, a writer hired by Verity's husband Jeremy to finish the author's work. Here's the rest of the Verity cast:

  • Anne Hathaway as Verity Crawford: a renowned author who's hiding a secret.
  • Josh Hartnett as Jeremy Crawford: Verity's husband.
  • Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh: a struggling writer given the chance of a lifetime to finish Verity Crawford's work.

Ismael Cruz Cordóva, Brady Wagner, Irina Dvorovenko, K.K. Moggie, and Michael Abbott Jr. will also star in unconfirmed roles.

And the first leak tells us just how crazy the 'Verity' movie is going to be.

@mickmicknyc Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett filming a graphic accident scene for 'Verity' in NYC 🎬🙈 #dakotajohnson#joshhartnett#verity#bts#behindthescenes#entertainmentnews#nyc♬ original sound - New York Mickey

We got our first look at Dakota Johnson as Lowen when she walked around New York City in burnt orange trousers, a beige top, and a gray coat. But there's one accessory that low-key makes my stomach turn: a splatter of blood on her face.

In this extended leak from @mickmicknyc on TikTok, Lowen's taking a stroll through Manhattan when a car accident with a biker covers her (and a few very-expressive extras) in blood. The movie nerd in me immediately clocked that the camera does a 360 around Dakota as she looks at the accident, and I LOVE a 360 so I'm excited to see this in the final movie! Especially if the composer gives us some incredible music!

We also see Josh Hartnett's Jeremy approach her and make sure she's okay before the leave the scene.

"This is exactly how I pictured it," says one TikTok user in the comments, while another adds, "I actually forgot this is how the book started with how crazy the rest of the book was."

"The way I just screamed ahhhh I’m so excitedddddddddd," a third user says. I cannot wait!

Stay tuned for even more Verity movie updates on Brit + Co and our TikTok!

Where can I watch the Verity movie?

The White Lotus season 3 premiered February 16, 2025. This season takes place in Thailand (after season 1 took us to Hawaii and season 2 took us to Italy), but amidst the stress-management meditation and incredible food, our cast is dealing with plenty of secrets, testing their limits throughout their week-long vacation.

"What happens in Thailand stays in Thailand," is the perfect way to open the trailer for this debaucherous new season. There's a lot to unpack throughout this almost 3-minute video. Here's what we noticed:

  • The Thailand White Lotus property is stunning! Every season makes me want to book a vacation ASAP.
  • Belinda looks gorgeous — so happy to see our girl thriving!
  • Our classic White Lotus family features kids who clearly have nothing in common or want anything to do with their family.
  • Responding to "I hope you enjoy Thailand," with "We usually go to the Caribbean" is that perfect White Lotus humor I live for. It's not in your face, but it gets the point across so well.
  • Belinda's there to learn and "bring the magic back to Maui." (Could this mean we get a return to the Hawaii resort in a future season?!)
  • Aimee Lou Wood and Walter Goggins playing a multi-generational couple is perfect — especially with little details like Aimee saying Walter should get a facial because someone thought he was her dad. Incredible.
  • "It means we're not dead yet," is such good foreshadowing given the morbid nature of this show.
  • "I think the cosmos brought us together," is more amazing White Lotus writing — these characters are always kooky, eccentric, and so addictive.
  • "We're poor now and daddy's going to prison" is a classic White Lotus character problem. You can't help but love to laugh at the incredulous Rich People Problems on this show!
  • It looks like all the crime described on the island sets up the potential for lots of different whodunnit murder scenarios we could end up with. I have a feeling we'll all be shocked at how this story turns up from who ends up in the body bag to who puts them there.
  • "Someone once said, 'The secret to life is knowing when to stop.'"
  • Oh and we get a new version of the theme song! I'm sure it'll be stuck in our collective brain for many months to come!

We already got hints at 'The White Lotus' season 3 last year.

The teaser trailer gave us a glimpse at this exciting season back in December 2024.

"Everyone runs from pain towards pleasure," the teaser trailer voiceover said. "But they get there only to find more pain." The montage of late-night parties and unsettling shots like Parker Posey staring down the camera (and someone grilling a live crab until it catches on fire??) had me convinced from the beginning that The White Lotus season 3 was going to serve us an insane helping of both pain and pleasure.

We also got shots of Patrick Schwarzenegger lounging by the pool, Jason Isaacs taking a paranoid stroll through the jungle, and a coupled-up Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins celebrating the fact their vacation didn't kill them.

And creator Mike White says 'The White Lotus' season 3 is going to be bigger than ever.

We know that The White Lotus season 3 is going to be the biggest season yet, thanks to interviews with the creator and crew. “It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus,” creator Mike White said in an interview with EW. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing…I’m super excited about the content of the season.”

And he's not the only one. Natasha Rothwell told PEOPLE that "White Lotus is going to give you a run for your money.”

"It's an excellent season and people are going to be very pleased," she continues. There's always something special about a third season thanks to the combination of familiarity and brand-new adventures, and the seductive intrigue The White Lotus season 3 is already proving my point.

Who's in the White Lotus season 3 cast?

Fabio Lovino/HBO

The White Lotus season 3 cast has a crazy star-studded cast! The list includes:

  • Jason Isaacs as Timothy Ratliff: a financier vacationing in Thailand with his wife and kids.
  • Parker Posey as Victoria Ratliff: Timothy's wife vacationing with her family.
  • Patrick Schwarzengger as Saxon Ratliff: Timothy and Victoria's eldest son who works for his dad.
  • Sarah Catherine Hook as Piper Ratliff: Timothy and Victoria's daughter who's a college senior studying religion.
  • Sam Nivola as Lochlan Ratliff: Timothy and Victoria's youngest, who's a senior in high school.
  • Michelle Monaghan as Jaclyn Lemon: a TV actress joining her friends for a girls' trip.
  • Leslie Bibb as Kate Bohr: one of three BFF's on a girls' trip in Thailand.
  • Carrie Coon as Laurie Duffy: a lawyer escaping the real world with her friends on their girls' trip.
  • Walton Goggins as Rick Hatchett: a mysterious guest at The White Lotus with his younger girlfriend Chelsea.
  • Aimee Lou Wood as Chelsea: a young woman from Manchester traveling with her much-older boyfriend.
  • Lalisa Manobal as Thidapon "Mook" Sornsin: the White Lotus' health mentor.
  • Lek Patravadi as Sritala Hollinger: an owner of the White Lotus.
  • Natasha Rothwell as Belinda Lindsey: spa manager visiting from the White Lotus Hawaii vacation.

Season 3 is always my favorite season of a show — especially considering Gilmore Girls Season 3 Is Simply The Best, And No TV Show Has Matched It Since. Check out our weekend email send for more TV news and the latest news on The White Lotus season 4!

Millennials are defined as being born between 1981 and 1996, but if you were born at the tail end of that time frame and endured your teenage years during the 2000s or early 2010s, you most definitely suffered through some arguably rough fashion trends.

Wearing Abercrombie or Aeropostale brand name t-shirts, sporting chevron dresses, and going to parties with "concealer lips" was (regrettably) the vibe at the time! Today, most teens wouldn't dare wear the outfits and accessories us millennials wholeheartedly loved.

We're here to revisit fashion's past and call out the top 8 millennial style fails that are just super cringeworthy today.

1. Flower Crowns

Etsy

Rainbow Flower Crown

When millennials wanted to look 'boho chic,' they immediately busted out the flower crowns. This accessory infiltrated practically every occasion, from high school dances and music festivals like Coachella – or even (sigh) regular trips to the mall.

While the trend might've felt fun and carefree at the time, flower crowns are super cliché today and just remind me of Tumblr's heyday (IYKYK).

2. "Geek" Glasses

Amazon

Black Nerd Glasses

It's funny to think about how popular wearing fake "geek" glasses was, particularly since so many teen movies of the time, like Mean Girls, sensationalized being "cool" and "popular."

Nonetheless, plenty of millennials set out to appear quirky by topping off their outfits with thick, oversized hipster frames, even if they didn't actually need glasses. Some people even used their leftover 3D glasses from movie theaters and simply popped the lenses out – guilty!

3. Hair Feathers

Etsy

Feather Hair Extension Clip

Similar to flower crowns, hair feathers emerged as a bohemian-inspired way to add a pop of color and texture to your locks. Some people opted for thinner solid or multicolored strands; meanwhile, others went full-throttle with larger feather shapes or even bead attachments.

This is another "hipster" trend that, while maybe still appropriate for some music festivals, should stay in the past when it comes to everyday wear.

4. Jeggings

Halara

Halara Flex High Waisted Stretchy Leggings

Jeggings were supposed to be the perfect blend of comfort and style... or so we thought. The idea seemed genius at the time, but in retrospect, they were just a fashion mistake.

This pant style attempted to blend two completely different types of garments and created a result that's now considered a fashion faux pas. Jeggings are just too tight to ever be flattering and don't deliver that same classic denim look.

5. Converse Sneakers With Anything

Converse

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Canvas Sneakers

Skinny jeans, skirts, maxi dresses, and mini dresses. Today, you'd probably pick different shoe choices for all of these outfits, but millennials undoubtedly had a go-to: Converse.

These sneakers were the perfect footwear for practically any look, but the trend quickly became overused. Even celebrities were showing up in low-cut Converse to walk the red carpet, a statement that would leave younger generations scratching their heads today.

6. Belts Over Shirts

Amazon

Grommet Leather Belt

Along with the excessive layering of tank tops and t-shirts came the addition of belts on top. While this might've been an attempt to add some structure or flair, many belts in the 2000s were more clunky than chic.

This trend is making a comeback, particularly with oversized outerwear. But, again, younger generations today are making more pattern- and color-conscious decisions (and not just cinching their waists while wearing Hollister v-necks, LOL).

7. Ombré Hair

Polina Semernina / PEXELS

Ombré hair is often associated with balayage, a hair-painting technique that remains insanely popular in 2025. However, many millennials didn't hit the salon to achieve their ombré – and took matters into their own hands at home.

Regardless of whether they tried to darken or lighten, it typically resulted in a not-very-well-blended horizontal line of color across their hair.

8. Fedoras

Julia Volk / PEXELS

Finally, I believe that you should be entitled to compensation if you've been personally victimized by a fedora. Everyone from Justin Timberlake to Paris Hilton wore these hats, making millennials think they were cool. In hindsight, perhaps everyone (including the A-listers) blundered with this fad.

I’ve done everything in my power to try to alleviate my back painstretching, self-massaging, hot baths, self-cracking my bones (don’t come for me), yoga — but nothing has truly given me the relief I've been looking for more than the Theragun.

And it’s not just my back pain that irks me. It's symptoms of tech neck from working long days at my desk (or, more often than not, my couch), muscle soreness from indoor bouldering 3-4 times a week, and honestly, the movement everyday life requires, like walking my dog and taking care of household chores that mandate multiple trips up and down three flights of stairs in my old sans-elevator apartment building.

What Does The Theragun Do?

The Theragun (more specifically, the Prime model) claims to provide a multitude of benefits. According to Therabody, the Theragun Prime can:

  • Relieve pain and soreness
  • Reduce tightness and tension

All great stuff, right? After seeing and reading lots of rave reviews about this beloved percussive therapy tool, I just had to put it to the test.

Can The Theragun Help With Back Pain?

Meredith Holser

More than anything, I was concerned with two major problems – back pain and muscle soreness – I hoped the Theragun would help with. I attribute a majority of my back pain to a slight bout of scoliosis along with an unfortunate compression fracture I experienced a couple of years ago. These two reasons are likely to have exacerbated my tech neck aches, too. I’m talkin’ stiffness around my entire neck and some chronically achy traps.

Piling on my passion for indoor bouldering only adds to the discomfort: sore forearms, lats, and calves and sharp knots along my shoulder blades. The sport requires that I put my body in all sorts of odd positions, use my muscles to sustain those unnatural stances, and brace for 6-foot falls (albeit safely, on well-padded floors). Needless to say, it all takes a physical toll.

After just a week of use and 5- to 10-minute-long sessions a day, the Theragun Prime has significantly lessened that burden and provided my back and upper body muscles with some super satisfying relief.

Here’s my full review, including what I loved and everything I didn’t.

Day 1

Meredith Holser

My trial began with lots of sharp pain between my shoulder blades, which I was worried about not being able to reach with the Theragun on my own without someone else to help me. My worries instantly melted away after giving it a go, though – the patented triangular handle design (which claims to help you reach “80% of your body with multiple hand positions”) helped me quickly locate the most painful points in between my shoulder blades. Not only was I able to accurately pinpoint my discomfort, even the lowest of the 5 available speed settings delivered immediate relaxation. I was shocked at just how powerful this tool was!

I felt like a crazy woman in my apartment, groaning alone out of relief, but it felt so good. I also noticed that my back felt warmed after use, which I observed as the improved circulation the Theragun claims to encourage.

Days 2-4

Meredith Holser

My shoulder blade pain carried on into day 2, along with some insane forearm soreness from bouldering. I took the Theragun to my arms at the lowest speed and found the same instant relief I did with my shoulder blades.

I repeated a routine of running the tool along my shoulder blades, entire back, and arms for days 3 and 4, too. By day 4, I could tell that the most painful points weren’t as sore as they were before I started my Theragun trial.

Day 5

Meredith Holser

Day 5 was quite the opposite, though. I had attended a concert the night prior, and I think standing hours on hard floors reawakened every stiffness, soreness, and sharp pain I had been experiencing before. I woke up feeling geriatric as ever (I’m freakin’ 25, for crying out loud!) and knew I’d have to try out the Theragun on my screaming lower back and sore calves.

My neck felt extremely tweaked, too, likely from sleeping on it in a less-than-ideal position (tummy sleepers, unite). I went at all of these areas with the Theragun’s wide-set dampener attachment as I had the 4 days before, but turned the tool up to a higher speed. Oh, it felt like heaven! Again, I was surprised by how powerful of a punch the tool provided. It felt like a luxe massage technique, all possible by my hands.

Targeting my body more globally felt really nice at the faster setting, up until I was hitting my neck. The tool had a very heavy vibration that viciously rattled my teeth, ears, and eyes, which honestly distracted me from the relief I was looking for in the neck and traps area.

Days. 6-7

Meredith Holser

I was met with sore legs from a long bike ride and even more bouldering-induced stiffness on days 6 and 7. I found similar relief to what I experienced the week prior and was able to relax really well after a long, activity-filled weekend. I also tested out the multiple attachments the Theragun Prime came with on my neck and traps, like the thumb and cone toppers, which are sharper-shaped to hit more specific trigger points. I found these more-targeted attachments way more effective than the rounder dampener and ball, which didn't do as great a job at getting into the deep-set knots I deal with.

Theragun Review: The Results!

Meredith Holser

While I can’t claim my back pain and sore muscles are entirely gone with the help of the Theragun Prime, I can say that they’re noticeably lessened after 7 days of consistent use. I think it’s a very effective way to relieve any pains and aches you may be dealing with, especially if you have tried all other avenues of pain reduction.

It was easy and intuitive to use myself, and I really enjoyed the range of relief I got from the tool, thanks to the customizable attachments and varying speed settings. The only quirk I didn’t quite like was the intensely distracting vibration that occurred in my head when I brought it up to my upper neck and traps.

Therabody

Theragun Prime

At an original price point of $299 (it’s also HSA and FSA-friendly!), I certainly understand it can be a steep investment for some, but given that the average cost of a massage or chiropractic visit hits around $100 (sometimes more), I believe the Theragun offers comparable relief to those methods.

Plus, you can use it anytime you like, as opposed to having to wait weeks for an appointment. It definitely is not a dependable replacement for more serious structural or muscular issues (which experts can better address), but it’s certainly appropriate for tackling everyday tightness, soreness, knots, and more.
