What's A Refill Store...And How Can I Shop At One?

Santa MonicaYou’ve probably seen a refill shop or two come across TikTok, and we’re here tell you that they’re *actually* worth shopping at.

Refilleries (AKA refill shops) grew in popularity throughout COVID as people became more conscious of their environmental footprint. Even major beauty brands, such as amika, Charlotte Tilbury, Glow Recipe, and more adopted refills into their product lines, allowing customers to purchase their creams and shampoos without the bottles (and at a reduced price). We’re huge fans of anything sustainable, so we're certainly on board!

As the refill industry continues to boom, more and more virtual and brick and mortar stores pop up across the nation, which is pretty cool if you ask us. Clearly, refilleries are here to stay, so here’s everything you need to know about shopping sans-plastic.

Why should I buy refills instead of brand new products?

Beyond the environmental and ethical benefits of shopping sustainably, purchasing refills is actually cheaper than their packaged counterparts.

Take Glow Recipe, for instance. You’re looking to restock your Plum Plump Refillable Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer. You can either pay $39 for the original, packaged version, or you can pay $33 for the refill, which has the exact same amount of product. If you already have the jar from your last moisturizer, or happen to hoard pretty jars like we do, just pop in the new, refillable cream and BOOM! $6 saved.

It’s really that easy, and that accessible.

Where can I find a refillery near me?

Google is gonna be your best friend for this. Just search “refill shop” with your town or city’s name, and you’re bound to find one nearby.

Here are some shops that may be around the corner from you:

How do I buy refills at a refillery?

There are a couple of ways to easily buy your products at a refillery. We recommend bringing your own jars to use, but most refilleries typically have their own containers you can use as well.

When you get to the store, you’ll weigh your containers on one of the provided scales. You’ll then receive a ticket with the weight of your jar, and from there you can go around the store and fill up your containers with whatever products you need. Since most refilleries charge you based on the amount of product, it’s important to account for the extra weight from the jar.

Buying refills is better for ourselves, our planet and our future, so let’s all try to shop sustainably for a better home and a better bank account.

Jenna Bush Hager chose Holly Gramazio's The Husbands as her book club's April pick in 2024 and it became an instant bestseller. Evidently, Apple TV took notice and decided it would be an excellent idea to adapt it into a new drama series! We're fond of adaptations here, so we're elated to this fresh storyline come to life. But, guess what else we're intrigued about?

What is 'The Husbands' about?

Amazon

The Husbands chronicles one woman's journey as she explores an ever-changing life with different men she's never met before. But this isn't a tale of reckless one-night stands. On the contrary, Lauren will be as confused as readers and viewers because she's not sure what's happening.

It all begins with her return to her home and the realization that a man who's strangely familiar with her is calling himself her husband. Unbeknownst to her, she's been married to Michael for a while despite not knowing who he is. What's even more ironic is that her friends think something's wrong with her because they know who her husband is.

In the midst of trying to decipher this phenomenon, Lauren's shocked when Michael disappears into the attic and a new man returns in his place. As she watches her surroundings change to accommodate life with him, Lauren slowly realizes her attic has created a portal that allows her to live out different fantasies with a revolving door of men. But, she'll have to ask herself what she really wants and if she's willing to hang on to one reality instead of wishing for more.

This color, though! Aside from the stunning buttons and modest coverage, I love the bold shade of this dress for spring. Again, it really speaks for itself, so you shouldn't have to dress it up too much to pull a 'fit.

While all dog owners tend to think their furry friends are the best boys or girls in the world, the numbers don't lie. New statistics released by the American Kennel Club, the world's largest registry of purebred dogs, revealed the most popular dog breeds in the United States for 2024, and spoiler alert: French Bulldogs stole the top spot again. Here were all the most popular dog breeds, according to the AKC.

Scroll to see the AKC's top 20 dog breeds for 2024!

What were the most popular dog breed for 2024?

Anna Shvets

This may come as a shock, but after reigning supreme for a whopping 31 years, the Labrador Retriever was ousted by the Frenchie in 2022. Since then, this breed has remained the most popular dog in the U.S. for three years running. Their smaller stature, playful temperament, and adaptable nature are likely to thank for their rising numbers across the nation.

Garfield Besa

Labrador Retrievers are still hot on Frenchies' tails, though, ranking as the second most popular dog breed. Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, and Poodles followed in third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively. Overall, the rankings for the top five remained the same from 2023 to 2024.

Kim Dubois

However, the remaining spots within the top 10 did see some shifts. Beagles rose one spot from eighth place to seventh place, and Rottweilers also climbed up to eighth place; meanwhile, Bulldogs dropped to ninth place, and German Shorthaired Pointers stayed in tenth place.

Now, of the 201 breeds included in the list, several saw significant rises in popularity over the past year. Leading the charge is the Kerry Blue Terrier, a working dog that jumped an impressive 25 spots to number 135. The Bracco Italiano, which was only officially recognized by the AKC in 2022, followed suit, catapulting 20 spots ahead to number 132.

Ron Lach

Then, both the German Pinscher and the American Staffordshire Terrier also advanced 18 slots each. Other notable climbs include the Bedlington Terrier and the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. The former rose 15 places to number 134, and the latter jumped 14 places to number 69.

Interestingly, the Saluki dropped considerably in popularity during 2024, moving 21 spots down to number 141. The Black and Tan Coonhound and the Wirehaired Vizsla witnessed significant decreases, too, at 20 spots and 17 spots, respectively.

Cup of Couple

At the same time, some breeds held their ground and maintained their 2023 popularity positions. Shih Tzus stayed at number 20, and Pomeranians and Boston Terriers continued to clock in at numbers 22 and 23.

Finally, the list's bottom 20 is comprised of rarer breeds, which have the lowest registration numbers in the U.S. The least popular dog in 2024 was the English Foxhound, falling from number 199 to number 201 from 2023 to 2024.

The first and second runners-up to last place go to the Bergamasco Sheepdog and the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen. The former is an Italian herding dog, and the latter is a French scent hound.
