The It Girl’s Guide to Pulling Off Ankle Boots in Summer

When it comes to warm weather footwear, strappy sandals, sleek slides, and candy-colored mules rule supreme. Whether you’re headed to the beach or hitting up a farmers’ market, the footloose feel of these kicks makes them a no-brainer for all of your summer shenanigans. But a new trend is taking shape on Insta, one that just might inspire you to leave your go-to pair of sandals behind. Celebs and blogger babes everywhere have been trading out gladiators and French-girl espadrilles in favor of last season’s ankle boots. The reason? The sleek steppers can instantly dial up the drama of even the most panache-packed pieces. Intrigued? Let the 14 Instababes below show you how it’s done.

1. Back to Basics: Leave it to It girl Olivia Culpo to make a tried-and-true denim shorts and t-shirt combo feel like a total revelation. White ankle boots usher the fuss-free look straight into trendsetter territory.

2. Classy Commando: Blogger Rebecca Laurey is a pro at piecing together ensembles that strike the ultimate balance of feminine elegance and downtown edge. The proof: this don’t-mess getup that sees a playful maxi dress pair seamlessly with tough-girl combat boots FTW.

3. All Trenched Up: Lookin’ good, Grasie. The actress and blogger pulled off a mod, summery look styling a snazzy trench sundress with white-hot ankle boots and sleek, oversized shades.

4. Metallic Muse: Take it from Instababe Amy Bell: Teaming a pair of after-hours-approved ankle boots with a frill-flecked dress is a surefire way to sass up your #OOTD in two seconds flat.

5. Festival Feels: Strappy sandals may rule supreme when the warm weather rolls around, but pointed-toe ankle boots give new life to this festival-ready matching set for Thrift and Threads blogger Brittany Xavier. The kickass steppers ground the look and establish a sense of balance that sandals and sneakers simply couldn’t provide.

6. Cali Cool: For a look that screams West Coast cool, take style cues from Julie Sariñana. Simple suede boots bring a touch of desert chic panache to a playful double denim getup, while a classic saddle bag and throwback glasses add a punch of polish.

7. Lovely Laces: Sun’s out, shoulders out. You can count on this dreamboat combo a la Jill Wallace of little black boots to take you from front stage to rooftop soirees sans problem.

8. Matchy Matchy: While sweater sets can feel like a bit much, we’re diggin’ this idea from stylist Chloe Hill. Grab a bold and bright summer dress and proceed to pair with equally as eye-catching boots for an impactful look that will do your #OOTD following proud.

9. All White Everything: So fresh. There’s nothing quite like an all-white ensemble once the warm weather hits, and Nina Schwichtenberg totally gets it. The blogger’s Balenciaga boots are straight-up fire, giving the outfit the oomph it needs to stand out. (Photo via @fashiioncarpet)

10. Skirt the Issue: A feminine midi skirt and an off-the-shoulder top are all you need for a dreamy date night by the sea. Balance out those undeniable Grace Kelly vibes like Pamela Allier with your trendiest pair of booties for a punch of RN flava.

11. Easy Breezy: Beach babe takes on the big city courtesy of Bay Area blogger Missminussized. Grab a fabulously flowy maxi, a sleek belt, and comfy pair of ankle boots for an effortless look that will keep you cool as you pound the pavement. Up the sartorial ante by tossing on some oversized shades and draping a structured jacket over your shoulders.

12. Retro Chic: Forget the ’70s — channel old world charm with a retro button-front frock and a prim-and-proper pair of lace-up booties with a little inspo from Sophia Rosemary Barrese. Throw a top-handle satchel and a berry lip into the mix to dial up the drama.

13. Work in Progress: Staying cool at the office is no easy feat (just ask influencer Linda Tol), but ankle boots can help give summertime essentials a more polished, business-ready feel. Pop on a sleek set with an A-line skirt, silk tank, and smart jacket to send those boss-lady vibes into overdrive (and win a few extra style points with HR).

14. Bohemian Dream: Get outside of your comfort zone this summer by rounding out a fancy lady getup like this stunner from Natalie Off Duty’s Natalie Lim Suarez with leather ankle boots and an arsenal of architectural accessories. Don’t be surprised if your buds dedicate a toast to your impeccable sense of style.

I still remember my first pair of UGG boots. They were the classic mid-calf silhouette in a cute-at-the-time gray color, and I truly wore them out. Thankfully, the fashion zeitgeist has moved way past pairing them with basic black leggings and the ever-adored Victoria’s Secret Pink oversized long sleeve shirt (maybe just me?), but UGG boots still have that certain timeless charm about them – totally staple-worthy and definitely as comfy as can be. Every style symbol from Bella Hadid and Zendaya to Jennifer Lopez has donned the warmth-lined boots at one point or another, awarding them complete icon status.

That’s what I love about UGG boots: no matter who you are (or your level of fame), they look good on everyone. Not to mention, they’re ever-so practical for the winter months. The dense lining that’s become a signature for UGG boots was originally designed for Australian surfers’ feet to keep ‘em warm against the chilling winter waters, but now, they stand up nicely against freezing temperatures in the city and beyond.

To reignite (or simply solidify) your love for the 2010s status symbol-turned 2020s fashion statement boots, here are 8 UGG boots that range from classic to earth-shattering, all begging to become a part of your winter wardrobe.

Nordstrom

UGG Ultra Mini Classic Boot

A shortened version of the OG UGG boots, this style hits around your ankles like some booties would. They're shoppable in 10 different colors at Nordstrom, from subtle neutrals to saturated greens, blues, and pinks. Of course, you'll reap the warming benefits of the wool-rich lining made to feel like genuine shearling.

Nordstrom

UGG Classic Ultra Mini Platform Boot

What this boot takes from the ankle height, it adds to the chunky platform soles. I've been seeing platform UGG boots just about everywhere since they debuted last year, and I love 'em because they give every look a nice boost. Your cold-weather ensemble will also become instantly trend-worthy since these boots are Bella Hadid-approved.

Nordstrom

UGG Ashton Zip Waterproof Boot

If you, like me, have to make it through through snowy, wet winters, classic UGG boots aren't the most practical choice for commuting. The soles on classic styles (like the ones mentioned above) are made of a foamy synthetic material that doesn't necessarily stand up to moisture and ice, whereas the rubber sole on these bad boys is durable and waterproof. Of course, you still get that undeniably recognizable UGG look from the chestnut brown colorway and the little logo stamp on the sides of these boots.

Nordstrom

UGG Classic New Heights Genuine Shearling Cuffable Boot

Okay – I am thoroughly obsessed with these UGG boots. The bold, curvaceous soles remind me of go-go boots you'd find in the '70s, making this style instantly timeless. The tall calf shaft can be worn rolled up for added warmth or cuffed down to reveal the cozy faux-shearling lining, so you essentially get two looks in one unique shoe.

Nordstrom

UGG Classic Ultra Mini Alpine Bootie

Après ski season is swiftly approaching, and I'd argue there's no better shoe to slip into after a day on the slopes than some plush UGG boots. These booties have an especially cozy vibe to them, thanks to the moccasin-inspired stitching along the seams. The shorter height also makes them easier to slip into than traditional calf-grazing UGGs!

UGG

UGG Classic Twin Seam New Heights Boot

These UGG boots don't have to work hard to make a statement – the 3-inch platform heel does most of the talking. The footbed of this style is adorned with UGG's classic, dense lining, while the ankle part is simply suede, making them easy to wear over socks and other wintery layers like tights or leggings.

Nordstrom

UGG Classic Mini Platform Boot

Fitted with the ever-trendy platform soles and a boot shaft that hits a little higher on your calves than the UGG Ultra Minis, these are the style to snag if you want a nice balance of style and practicality this winter. The lining will keep your feet super warm, all while the boosted silhouette of these boots adds unmissable flair.

Now that fall is officially in full swing, there’s a lot of seasonal traditions to look forward to, like apple picking, enjoying pumpkin spice lattes, or perfecting Taylor Swift’s famous chai sugar cookie recipe. But in recent years, a new Halloween trend has taken social media by storm – boo baskets. Whether you’re planning on crafting the perfect basket for a loved one, or you have no idea where to start, here is a guide that will help you get on the right track.

What Are Boo Baskets?

Reine Jalloul

Boo baskets are Halloween or fall-themed gift baskets typically filled with candy, seasonal decorations, and fun crafts that you can surprise your significant other with to celebrate the season. While videos of this trend usually show people giving their baskets to their “boo” (pun intended), it’s not limited to just your partner. You can also make one for your friends, your parents, your kids, or even your pets if you wanted to!

What Do You Put In a Boo Basket?

Sarah Barna

Just about anything can go in a boo basket! If you’re creating a basket that’s specific to your loved one’s interests, the possibilities of what you can include are endless. But based on countless TikTok videos and Instagram reels posted about this trend, the general formula for a basket that I’ve noticed includes a cozy item, a mug, a fall-themed drink mix, snacks or candy, a stuffed animal, and (of course) a basket big enough to fit everything!

First, The Basket

Amazon

Technically, any big basket or container could be used to hold your boo basket items. However, if you’re the kind of person that likes to go all out when gift-giving, I would recommend a Halloween-themed basket like the Andemie Halloween Collapsible Organizer from Amazon. Not only does this basket come in multiple colors and patterns, you can easily flatten the basket and store it anywhere you want, so you can reuse it next fall.

Candles, Body Care, Sweaters & More … A Cozy Girl’s Galore!

Cora Pursley

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to getting all relaxed and comfortable, especially on a chilly, rainy fall day. Personally, there are three essential elements to my lazy days – an oversized sweater, some gourmand scented body care, and a candle that makes my entire apartment smell like walking into a bakery. If this sounds like you, here are some of my favorites.

Etsy

This sweater from the LoveStitchesCo shop on Etsy has quickly become a staple to my “lounging around” outfits this season, and for a good reason. For only $26, this sweater is made out of 100 percent cotton, has a wide size range available (S to 3XL), and can be customized to whatever color you’d like. Plus, the embroidered design is absolutely adorable; who doesn’t love ghost kittens?

Sol de Janeiro

As the weather gets colder, many people (like myself) opt to swap their perfumes and scented lotions from fruity and tropical notes to warm and edible notes like vanilla, caramel, honey and chocolate. If you’re looking to spoil your boo basket recipient who likes these kinds of scents, Sol de Janeiro recently released a limited edition body cream in one of their best-sellers, Cheirosa 71. Fragrance notes of caramelized vanilla, white chocolate and toasted macadamia nut will have you smelling like a snack (literally), while moisturizing ingredients like macadamia seed oil and tucumã butter will keep your skin feeling silky smooth.

Bath & Body Works

If you’re a candle lover, then you already know that the best place to find candles for every season is at none other than Bath & Body Works. Sure, there are plenty of pumpkin scented candles to try, but if you’re looking to include something in a boo basket that screams fall, Autumn Chai is the perfect option. This three-wick candle has notes of cinnamon chai, French vanilla, and caramel – a great combination if you’re looking for something cozy, but not too overwhelming.

Drink Mixes

Target

Hot chocolate is one of the quintessential cold weather beverages, but if you want to be more creative with your drink choice, Target’s Favorite Day brand has a spooky-themed hot cocoa mix that would be a great addition to your boo basket. One box comes with two cocoa mixes and a marshmallow confetti mix shaped like beakers you can find in a science laboratory, and when combined with warm milk, changes to an orange or green color. How cool is that?

And Of Course, A Mug To Match

Target

You got the perfect fall drink for your boo, but what mug would go with it the best? At this stage, I think this is where you get something that is the most personable to your boo basket recipient. You could include a mug that matches their career or their favorite hobbies and interests. If you want to play it safe and stick with a Halloween theme, this 15 oz ghost mug from Target is spook-tacular!

Plushies Make Everything Better

Warmies

Who says that stuffed animals are just for kids? Not only are they fluffy and come in all shapes and sizes, giving a stuffed animal to your loved one is one of the best ways to show that you care about them. As a plushie connoisseur, my go-to pick for a boo basket would be any plush, like this pink llama from Warmies. Each cuddly buddy is lavender-scented and also serves as a microwaveable heating pad that can be used to relieve stress or soothe muscle aches and pains.

Don’t Forget the Candy

Target

No Halloween basket would be complete without candy! From chocolates to gummy worms and sour WarHeads, there are so many options to choose from that it can seem overwhelming to pick just one. And if your boo basket recipient has any dietary restrictions, it can be even more difficult to find something that fits that person’s needs. My twin sister has been vegan for almost five years, and before we both moved out from our parents’ house, these dark chocolate coconut bars from Unreal were a staple snack for the whole family. Not only are these bars certified vegan and gluten-free, each bar only contains three grams of sugar and three ingredients – coconut, cassava syrup and dark chocolate. As someone who isn’t vegan, trust me when I say that when you try these, you won’t want to go back to the name-brand chocolate.

If I could persuade you to buy one thing for fall to make every outfit feel complete and oh-so-chic, it would be a pair of tall black boots. They come in so many different shapes, sizes, and cuts, so you're sure to find one to meet your standards, no matter what! I love wearing them with pretty much every look for fall, whether they're paired with jeans and a sweater, or a mini dress and a trench coat.

Tall, black boots are just that girl when it comes to fall shoes. Don't believe me? Here are the 10 pairs that totally prove it.

Reformation

Reformation Frances Boots

#1 on my current "to buy" list are these phenomenal boots from Reformation. I'm pretty obsessed everything they're selling right now, but these chunky boots really take the proverbial cake. I love the juxtaposition of more masculine style boots paired with feminine and dainty sweater dresses, or even mini skirts and trench coats.

Anthropologie

Schutz Raffaela Boot

I'm normally a pointed-toe boot gal, but these take pointed-toes to a whole new level — and I love it! They're the perfect staple shoe that most definitely still make a statement. Plus, since they're a block heel and more comfy, you'll get plenty of wear out of them. The leather is incredibly high quality on these bad boys, so they're sure to last many seasons more.

Target

Target Tall Platform Stretch Boots

These platform boots will have you looking like the Sabrina Carpenter in no time! They give all the pop star, cutesy vibes — and they also add quite a lot of height since they're platforms! Grab these to step up (get it?) your fall fashion game!

Anthropologie

Jeffrey Campbell Checkmate Boots

These are probably #2 on my "to buy" list! They're such a classic — and classy — style of boot! I have a few pairs almost exactly like this, and they're:

  • Very comfortable
  • Incredibly chic
  • Look good with every outfit

Ann Taylor

Ann Taylor Suede Boots

Sale alert! Ann Taylor has these high-quality faves listed at 40% off right now, which is an awesome deal. Suede is one of my favorite trends at the moment, and I simply can't get enough of it! I will definitely be grabbing these babies!

J.Crew

J.Crew New Stevie Boots

Everyone's favorite, classic boot is back and better than ever! The classic Stevie boot from J.Crew just got some re-vamps, like stretchier fabric in the top to make it easier to slide on and off, as well as a more refined heel. These boots are going to be a closet staple for years to come — just watch!

Target

Target Tamara Boots

These boots are simply everything. They look so incredibly sleek and high fashion — TBH, nobody would guess they're from Target. I can already envision these with a mini skirt, a sweater, and an oversized trench coat. You'll have the picture perfect, off-duty model look.

Anthropologie

Coconuts by Matisse Carla Boots

These croc-print boots are definitely on the more affordable side — and thank goodness! I've seen these types of boots go for upwards of $300, so this is the lowest I've seen for a pair that's got great quality and is on-trend. And while they're an animal print, I love how versatile these boots are. They can be worn as a statement, or you could style them as a staple, everyday shoe since they're a classic style and color.

J.Crew

J.Crew Piper Boots

Um, these amazing boots are 40% off right now, so definitely run to grab them while they're still in stock! They would look so good with shorts, a sweater, and a chore jacket for a more bohemian look. The leather's also really durable and thick, so you don't have to worry about them getting too damaged or scuffed up.

Ann Taylor

Ann Taylor Block Heel Leather Boot

Block heels are essential given how comfortable they are, all the while still looking incredible chic and put-together. They definitely make it easier to walk for longer periods of time, so these are ideal if you're a student, work in an office, or need a cute look while you're on-the-go, but want to be comfortable at the same time.

We're officially one week into Scorpio season — are you feeling it? Is your intuition heightened? Are you super sensitive and a bit more introverted? It’s a good time to slow down, feel your feelings, and tap into the inner wisdom of your soul. Scorpio is often misinterpreted, perhaps because this season coincides with Halloween, the decreasing daylight in the northern hemisphere, or simply Scorpio’s intensity and power. A key word for Scorpio is transformation, which is never easy.

Think of the caterpillar’s metamorphosis — its time in the cramped and dark cocoon. That primordial, gooey existence is anything but comfortable. Transformation requires time, a willingness to experience discomfort, and patience before emerging as a beautiful butterfly.

Ajaila Walker

Scorpio is one of the healing signs in the zodiac, and while the Sun is in Scorpio, we can make great strides toward healing ourselves and helping others. There’s nothing superficial about Scorpio — it demands depth, wanting to uncover layers and expose what’s hiding. That’s why it’s a great time to focus on your inner world and subconscious mind. All forms of therapy are beneficial during Scorpio season, but psychotherapy is especially powerful if that's an option for you.

Eager to know what this transformational energy has to offer? Read on for your weekly horoscope to understand how this can impact your sun and rising sign!

Astrological Overview For Your Weekly Horoscope

Eugene Lisyuk

The New Moon in Scorpio occurs on November 1 at 9 degrees of Scorpio. You'll want to check your birth chart to see where 9 degrees of Scorpio falls — this is the area of your life where you can experience transformation and growth. New Moons are powerful times to plant seeds for future growth, to dream and plan for the coming month. Take time to reflect on what truly matters during this period of darkness and inward focus.

Yuliia Tretynychenko

Mars, the planet of action and determination, has been opposite Pluto, the planet of transformation, for months. Both Mars and Pluto co-rule Scorpio, creating an intense and volatile energy. This opposition becomes exact again on November 3 and 4. Use this energy to propel yourself in a new direction and honor your true self. Strength and focus can harness this intensity for personal breakthroughs, but be cautious in making impulsive decisions during this time — on the global stage, tensions may rise, and there could be heightened aggression.

Sam Lion

Adding to this turbulent energy, Mercury, the planet of communication and learning, leaves Scorpio and enters Sagittarius on November 2. As Mercury exits Scorpio, it forms a beneficial trine to Mars and a sextile to Pluto. This is a powerful opportunity for words to contribute to healing, so take care in how you communicate. Be mindful of the power your words hold, especially as Sagittarius can be blunt and outspoken. While Mercury is in Sagittarius until January 9, focus on expanding your consciousness, learning new skills, and broadening your horizons.

Key Dates For Your Weekly Horoscope

This week focuses on your community and your relationship with like-minded people. Group learning and activities will be more impactful than solo efforts.
