How to Wear Festival-Inspired Braids to the Office

The first weekend of Coachella signifies the true moment when we know that festival season has officially kicked off. We’ve already got you up to speed on Coachella street style and all the spring fashion trends we spotted, so now it’s time to take this festival inspo and apply it IRL. If you’re not attending Coachella but love the event’s vibe, wearing festival-inspired braids to the office is a fun way to get in the spirit from afar. Here are three super simple, funky braids you can master in a matter of minutes and rock at your nine-to-five — they’re def office appropriate.

BRAID #1: The Triple Crown

This triple-sectioned, inside-out messy French braid is streamlined into three mini buns in the back — it’s a stunner! This look will have you channeling your inner Coachella gal in a matter of minutes. Here’s how to create the triple crown braid.

Step 1: Section It Out

To help keep your sections clean, divide your hair into three separate sections. Leave the first section you will braid untied.

Start on one side of your head and style an inside-out French braid. Be sure to slightly widen your braids by gently tugging on each strand.

Step 2: Style An Inside-Out French Braid

Continue to style inside-out French braids into the remaining sections, and secure with a small elastic.

Step 3: Repeat, Repeat

Wrap up the end of each braid into a mini bun and pin it in place at the nape of your neck. This creates a textured chignon effect in the back that’s SO pretty.

Step 4: Make Mini Braid Buns

BRAID #2: Keep It Old School

With braids being such a trend these days, revamped versions of classic styles are resurfacing! We wanted to remind you of the old school, gorgeous French braid.

Step 1: Bump It Up

Pump up the volume, people! Get on board the backcombing train and build serious height into your locks. The added volume and texture will help to set the base for this super simple look.

Buttttt let’s not get carried away ;) Gently take the ends of your comb and smooth the outer layer of your hair. Be careful not to flatten the work you just did though!

Step 3: Frenchie, Frenchie

Step 2: Smooth It Down

French braid your hair until you get to the ends, and then secure it with an elastic.

Now, tuck the tied end of your hair inside your French braid. Pin it in place.

Step 4: Tuck + Pin

BRAID #3: Fishtail Crown

The perfect braid for short haired gals (like me) is a messy fishtail. This baby frames your face with just two bobby pins to hold it in all in place!

Style a fishtail braid on one side of your head and use a small elastic to secure it. Then, tuck it behind your ear and separate the braid by gently tugging on the strands of hair to make it look loose and unkempt.

Step 1: Create Your First Fishtail

Repeat the same fishtail braid on the other side of your hair.

Step 3: Pin in Place

Step 2: Same Fishtail, Different Side

Use a bobby pin on each side of your head to pin the braids in place. You can pin anywhere that makes your silhouette look appealing to you.

Now turn up your playlist, get your peace fingers ready and strut your stuff (and your inner flower child!) into work!

Coachella Beauty & Fashion Trends For 2024

As always, Pinterest Trends is one step ahead of even the most stylish among us. They're bringing the most aesthetic micro trends to real life, no matter how niche. A team of styling and beauty experts is helping festival-goers lean into the looks we've all been pinning, from light and airy coquette and fairycore to dark feminine aesthetics like Lana Del Rey-core. It's safe to say that everyone looked so fab that I had to get in on it all!

A Coquette Fairycore Makeover

I arrived at Coachella in a light floral set (one of my go-to warm weather outfits) and decided on the spot that I wanted to tap further into the fairycore and coquette aesthetic. The Pinterest team didn't skip a beat in helping me achieve my perfect festival look.

We started with a light blue eye shadow to tap into the sugar plum vibes. As a maximalist who loves a little extra sparkle, I naturally opted into the inclusion of micro pearls to frame my eyes.

Like every Pinterest girlie as of late, I'm still stuck on the Y2K and bow trends. There was a huge selection of bows in every size and color to choose from, but I settled on alternating baby pink and periwinkle. We added butterfly clips to my braids and topped off the look with more pearls in my hair.

Dax Shepard Asked Oscar Nominee Cynthia Erivo About Going To The Bathroom...For Some Reason

The Wicked moviepress tour has been a truly beautiful thing to witness. Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo have cried in almost every interview because of how much they love their characters and each other, and it seems like working on this project really did heal something in them. So, after the sincerity of their interviews, I was really taken aback when I learned Dax Shepard had Cynthia Erivo on his Armchair Expert podcast...and chose to ask her about going to the bathroom?

On an episode of his Armchair Expert podcast, Dax Shepard asked Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo if her famously long nails make it difficult to wipe when she goes to the bathroom. “I knew you would ask that,” Cynthia responds, saying “no one’s afraid” to ask such an intimate question.

“My answer is that nobody uses just their fingers to wipe their backside,” she says. “You use tissue, correct? And you wipe!”

When he asked if she was annoyed or offended by the question, Cynthia admits she's "annoyed by it."

“I'm, like, 'Come on, guys,' ” she says. “But I get it, but it's also, like, ‘I'm a functioning adult, and I've never walked around smelling like, you know…'"

The actress has proved she's nothing if not honest this fall, going viral for saying "thank goodness" the actresses who auditioned with her for Glinda didn't land the role and for vocalizinghow much a fan edit of the Wicked movie poster offended her (she later admitted she should have texted her friends instead of posting on social media).

Now, this question was very weird to me for a few reasons. Not only does it have nothing to do with the film, but Dax asking Cynthia about her bathroom habits gives me a similar feeling to the one I got watching that male interviewer ask Scarlett Johansson about her underwear during Avengers: Age of Ultron press. Just...what is the reason? Plus, the fact Cynthia has also been vocal about how much she values her nails as a part of Black culture only makes the question (and the fact the nails feel like, no pun intended, the butt of the joke) weirder.

"Here’s the thing," Cynthia tells Dax before switching topics. "There are people who do not have nails who need to check how they’re wiping." Get 'em girl!

Zendaya Surprised Fans At Coachella Weekend 2 During Labrinth's Set

Coachella was full of surprises this year, from $60 burritos to Frank Ocean’s controversial set. But if anything could make up for these losses, it’s Zendaya. The Euphoria lead surprised fans during Labrinth’s performance on Saturday, singing along to “I’m Tired” and “All For Us” from the cult classic teen drama.

Dressed in knee-high leather boots and a pink corset dress, with her hair flowing effortlessly down her back, the star stunned in a festival-ready look.

Following her performance, the award-winning actress took to Instagram to share her appreciation: “I cannot express my gratitude enough for this magical night. And to the crowd tonight ... wow ... my heart is so full,” Zendaya wrote. “I can’t thank you enough for the love I received tonight, made all my nerves melt away, I'm so grateful.”

The retired Disney Channel star also posted a video with a message for her fans: “I have never heard screaming like that in my entire life,” she shared. “As soon as I turned the corner, I couldn’t hear anything. I couldn’t hear anything but you guys. I don’t know what happened, I don’t know what I sounded like. But I was like, you know what? I'm just gonna have fun. And whatever. You know ... it was so special. Everybody was singing along, and it was so cool. So so cool. So thank you all for welcoming me back on that stage with open arms.”

Zendaya’s appearance marked her first time performing live in over seven years. Zendaya released new music a decade ago, with the hit single, “Replay,” on her self-titled album. We hope to see the star hit the stage “again and again,” but until then, at least we have season three of Euphoria to look forward to.

Nicole Kidman is, as the kids say, mothering. She's giving fans plenty of movies and TV shows to pick from while we wait for the next seasons of Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers — A Family Affair, Expats, The Perfect Couple (and the AMC intro, of course). Her newest movie Babygirl comes from A24, and the steamy drama is mixing work and pleasure. Pour yourself a glass of wine for this one, folks.

In Babygirl, Nicole Kidman plays Romy, a powerful CEO struggling to hold her perfect persona together. Her marriage to Jacob has never provided with much pleasure, despite the fact he's caring and artistic. But when Romy meets a young intern named Samuel, and feels immediately drawn to him, the two begin a torrid affair.

And filming scenes with Harry Dickinson got so intense, Kidman said she literally had to take breaks. “There were times when we were shooting where I was like, ‘I don’t want to orgasm any more,'” she told the Sun. “Don’t come near me. I hate doing this. I don’t care if I am never touched again in my life!”

But the fact the movie was made by women empowered Kidman — and gave her a sense of freedom. "Doing this subject matter in the hands of the woman that wrote the script, that's directing it and is a really great actress herself — we became one in a weird way, which I'd never had with a director before," Kidman says in a statement. "When you're working with a woman on this subject matter, you can share everything with each other.”

"I really decided in the beginning, I want to make a sexual film, just as sexual as all these films that I've always admired so much," adds writer-director-producer Halina Reijn, "but now I'm going to do it completely through female eyes. What does that mean and what does that look like?”

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Nicole Kidman revealed Babygirl is the most "exposing" film she's done because she's “made some films that are pretty exposing, but not like this.”

“It left me raggedm" Kidman says. "At some point I was like, I don’t want to be touched. I don’t want to do this anymore, but at the same time I was compelled to do it...This is something you do and hide in your home videos. It is not a thing that normally is going to be seen by the world.”

“I felt very exposed as an actor, as a woman, as a human being,” she continues. “I had to go in and go out like, I need to put my protection back on. What have I just done? Where did I go? What did I do?”
