7 #OOTDs for the Week: Rock Menswear-Inspired Shoes Like a Lady

This season, heels aren’t the only footwear that can make an outfit feel fancy in an instant. From preppy loafers to posh oxfords, menswear-inspired dress shoes are quickly becoming the fashion girl go to for adding an easy-going polish to nearly any look. This week’s outfit inspiration is about how to take cues from the boys when it comes to slipping in or lacing up, with help from some of the most stylish ladies on Instagram. Scroll through these seven #OOTDs below for tips on how to wear the flatter footwear like a lady.

1. @frassyaudrey: Patent leather’s super shine makes even the most basic of lace ups feel gala fancy. As seen on Parisian style blogger Audrey, the pair stand up elegantly to a fit-and-flare cocktail dress, and, along with that heart-print clutch, give the look a uniquely playful feel.

2. @phoenixlovechild2: When you want to turn jeans and a tee into a work-worthy uniform, turn to leather lace ups like this London-based blogger. Take the look to the next level by cuffing your denim to expose a set of colorful socks — a style hack stolen straight from the guys.

3. @larisacostea: Wear classic penny loafers the way they were meant to be by channeling your inner prepster like Romanian style blogger Larisa. The bowler cap, backpack and cardigan cement the vibe, but we just can’t take our eyes off of those statement socks.

4. @alwaysjudging: When the best of both worlds is so versatile, there’s no reason to not own a pair of heeled oxfords. SoCal blogger Courtney gives us major schoolgirl vibes with this sock baring skirt look (and we mean that in the best possible way), though we see these shoes looking just as good paired with cropped trousers or flaired denim.

5. @n0bigdeal: Bay Area style blogger Sarah dresses up her sporty basics with eye-catching silver loafers, putting an unexpected twist on a made-for-the-weekend look. Besides looking naturally fresh with a fancy jumpsuit, we’re dreaming of wearing this pair with our fave jersey midi and Jean jacket all of spring too.

6. @myshowroomblog: No other pair of shoes looks cuter with shorts and tights than oxfords. Barcelona blogger Priscila is making a seriously strong case for owning a leopard printed pair, especially when styled with classic pieces like a white tee and plaid scarf.

7. @thriftsandthreads: Take it from LA style blogger Brittany: your new 9-to-5 staples are chunky oxfords. We’re loving this modern blazer and midi skirt combo with the footwear, or max out on menswear inspo by wearing the pair with a two-piece suit. Be sure to finish with #Girlboss details like a slicked back pony and bold lip.

With the ever-increasing popularity of the high-waisted jean, it’s no wonder fashion girls want to show off their flattering contours by testing out every creative way to tuck in their tops. But even those that have masted the trend need a little guidance every now and then. So, as per usual, we’re here to help. Scroll on to learn a few simple tricks for conquering the cute tuck and seriously upping your personal 2018 style game.

The Front Tuck: Perhaps the most difficult to tackle, the front tuck is best achieved by tucking in your top completely and then untucking everything *except* the front quarter — about midway between your first and second belt loop from the front. This is a great way of highlighting a special belt buckle or embroidery or denim embellishments. Try this method with anything from a simple tank to a bulky (and oh-so-cozy) cable-knit sweater. There’s really nothing you can’t front tuck.

The Half-Tuck: Probably the most lazy-girl-inspired of the tucks, the half-tuck looks relaxed yet intentional and is pretty much just an all-around dope decision. As with the first method, tuck in your shirt completely before pulling out just a front eighth. Clearly, this looks works best with button-up blouses and more structured tops, but we challenge you to try anything! Pair with a cardigan or blazer to pull off a perfect blend of professional with a dash of messy.

The Full Tuck: We know, we know, it seems simple but somehow it doesn’t always feel simple to integrate into your outfit. Tuck your top tightly into whatever you’re sporting — be it a pencil skirt, trousers, or skinny 501’s — and then lift your arms up and hop on one leg. JK! But seriously, imagine you’re seeing Queen Bey slay the stage and she’s just asked you to put your hands in the air and then voilà, perfect full tuck look achieved!

Sometimes, you get dressed and you want the whole world to see your super on-point outfit — not just those you come across on your commute. However, a simple selfie might not capture your whole look, and a mirror pic might not do the trick, either. That’s where an Instagram Husband or Wife (or, y’know, partner, for those of us who are non-binary) comes in — they’ll take a full-length picture for you to post across all your social media platforms to rack up all the likes you truly deserve. And now, for a limited time (September 7-15, to be exact), you can hire your very own Instagram Husband or Wife from Task Rabbit!

Task Rabbit is a service that allows you to hire people to do all the chores you don’t want to do — pick up your laundry, move your office supplies from your old building to the new one, hang your shelves and more. But this Fashion Week, they’ve gotten super creative with their offerings and have decided that what we all really need is some help taking #OOTD photos — and how can we argue with that? Your Instagram Husband or Wife will take photos for you, carry around extra clothes (and who knows, maybe even a Tide pen, just in case), edit photos for your liking and even press “Share” if you’re too busy to do it yourself. What a dream.

If you want to take advantage of this special offer, you’ll have to do it soon — Instagram Spouses are only available from September 7 through 15, and you know you wanna give this no-commitment relationship a shot.

As much as I love celebrity couples, I love celebrity sibling relationships even more. And Elle and Dakota Fanning are two sisters I've grown up watching since I first saw Dreamer in 2005. Considering Elle Fanning is only five months older than me, and I have a sister of my own, this is one relationship that feels particularly familiar. And while Elle has also watched Dakota Fanning act since we were kids, Dakota just revealed seeing Elle onscreen is just as special for her.

Here's why Dakota & Elle Fanning get emotional seeing each other onscreen.

Elle remembers "sobbing" during one particularly emotional Dakota Fanning movie.

“When Elle’s in anything, it makes me feel it deeper,” Dakota Fanning said at TheWrap’s Power Women Summit on December 3. “She never can fully disappear into a character totally for me as her sister. She obviously does an amazing job, but I’m always gonna see my little sister a little bit.”

And Elle is just as touched by Dakota's roles, and remembers "uncontrollably sobbing" after seeing Now Is Good, a movie where Dakota's character was dying of cancer. “Because it was my sister, I had a real traumatic reaction after that premiere and the screening,” Elle says. “Obviously the acting, but it was something felt on a deeper level.”

“I’m doing this job, I’m an actor because my sister started before me and I watched her,” Elle continues. “I wanted to do exactly what my big sister wanted to do.”

And their movies have also made an impact on everyone who watches them.

When Brit + Co caught up with Dakota Fanning at the world premiere of The Watchers, I had to ask about one of her most iconic movies: Uptown Girls. "I love it," she says of TikTok memes and edits giving the movie new life. "It's nostalgic for people who are kind of around my age, who grew up watching that movie, I think it's like a comfort movie for people. And so I love that people are still revisiting it and loving it. And maybe now that everyone's older [they're] understanding different things about it."

Dakota starred opposite Brittany Murphy, who also had roles in movies like Clueless, 8 Mile, and Girl, Interrupted. Brittany passed away in 2009 when Dakota was 15. "I loved Brittany so much and I still miss her," she says. "So anytime that she has, you know, a moment where people think about her is also nice."

You can see Elle Fanning in A Complete Unknown, in theaters December 25, and you can also stream Dakota Fanning's new show The Perfect Couple on Netflix now.
