Pantone Was Right — This Color of the Year Is All Over Instagram

Ultra Violet has been dubbed 2018’s Pantone Color of the Year, and we for one are all in when it comes to this “deeply provocative and thoughtful purple shade.” What’s not to love about a color that’s empowering enough to represent on the GRL PWR front (Millennial Pink, you’ve been replaced), yet mystical enough to channel the cosmos? With inspiration for the deep purple hue stemming from Prince to David Bowie, a dose of violet-y goodness — in the form of a marshmallow puffer or a pair of those coveted Balenciaga OTK spandex boots — could be just the thing to stave off a case of the mid-winter blues. Let your imagination run wild with these 16 Instababe-approved looks that will inspire you to have a purple moment of your own.

1. Matching Jumper and Satchel: This London-based blogger is the perfect picture of a girl about town with her cozy violet jumper and ladylike lavender satchel taking center stage just outside of Covent Garden.

2. Having a Shearling Moment: Susie (Bubble, that is) strikes again! She’s armed with a dark purple Western-inspired shearling jacket and an accompanying cold-weather pout, and her masterful play on color pays homage to the ’80s.

3. Purple Monochrome: If Pantone’s the world-renowned authority on color, then Monling Lee is a color-blocking master. Peep her Ultra Violet denim utility jumpsuit and backpack, and bluish-purple mirrored shades.

4. The Fuzzy-Wuzzy Effect: Velcro sneakers à la Prada? Check. Leather flares? Check. Textured purple topper with traffic-stopping appeal? BINGO.

5. Purple Hair, Don’t Care: Be the unicorn of your friend group by test-driving purple ombre hair with as much panache as Bowie. Your inner rockstar will thank you.

6. So Mod: A ’70s-inspired purple patterned jumpsuit with bohemian flair will have you feeling like a foxy mama. As per Tamu McPherson’s “nothing off limits” style philosophy, leopard print pumps and retro pink-tinted sunglasses are all the outfit-elevating extras you could ever need.

7. Casual Purple Suit Day: Breaking glass ceilings and lookin’ dang good while doing it. Introducing the violet-infused power suit that officially deserves a spot in every aspiring lady boss’s wardrobe.

8. The Sky’s the Limit: Purple out with a pair of Balenciaga’s cult-favorite Knife boots, a frosty lilac dress, and windswept hair. (Photo via @handinfire)

9. Purple Marshmallow Spotting: Just how many lavender puffas do you think Lenki Lenki sold after Eva Chen ‘grammed this #OOTD magic right here?

10. Ultra Violet Grecian Goddess: Be it for an upcoming spring banquet or a summer wedding, the reign of purple gowns has only just begun. This flowy orchid-hued Rosie Assoulin stunner is #flawless.

11. Bedroom Dressing 2.0: Slay, Gitta Banko, slay. Royal purple silky PJs reminiscent of the Duchess herself are totes necessary for your next at-home pampering sesh or midnight rendezvous.

12. A Hint of Purple: Take it from the Milanese and their less is more style know-how — a purple amethyst sweater oozes sophistication. Kudos to the striped pants and Thrasher Vans for bringing an element of zaniness to the table. (Photo via @thesartorialist)

13. Fabulous Fringe: Scuse us, we’re having a MAJOR (purple) fringe moment over here. ‘Nuff said. (Photo via @styledumonde)

14. Plum Perfection: Plum crazy is right! We can’t decide what we love more: the bright cocoon coat or Carrie Colbert’s fantastically sassy Barbie pink tassel earrings.

15. Jewel Tones and Fancy Frills: Jane Aldridge’s incorporation of head-to-toe jewel tones (amethyst and emerald) is enough to set any color-loving gal’s heart aflutter. Don’t even get us started on her perfectly tousled red hair.

16. Extra AF: TFW you’ve got a dope date-night look all planned out, and you unintentionally match your violet feather bolero to your plum-tastic beret. Et voilà!

Finally — a Pantone Color of the Year that I can totally get on board with. PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse is a deliciously warm brown that blends two of my favorite things: coffee and chocolate. This cozy, yet refined hue is the ultimate neutral for anyone embracing the earthy tones that make your home decor feel grounded, organic, and effortlessly elevated. It's rich without being overpowering, with a muted sophistication (think: coffee with a splash of cream) that instantly warms up a space. Pantone describes it as the color of comfort, and I couldn’t agree more.

“Mocha Mousse is the perfect choice for 2025," says designer Ashely Stark. "Mocha Mousse offers endless possibilities for decorating, whether it’s through a plush rug, a soothing carpet, or as a base for bold pops of color like deep jewel tones or metallics. This versatile shade opens up a world of design options, making it a timeless and adaptable addition to any space." Ready to infuse your home with a Mocha Mousse aesthetic? Sullivan's Crossing season 2 just wrapped up on The CW, but we're not saying goodbye to any of our favorite characters just yet — at least, I hope so. I've been worried sick about Sully (Scott Patterson) since the finale ended with him trapped in the diner as it went up in flames, but Deadline confirms Sullivan's Crossing season 3 will premiere in 2025, meaning we don't have to wait multiple years to reunite with Maggie (Morgan Kohan), Cal (Chad Michael Murray), and the rest of the gang — and find out what happens to Sully (like SOME shows).

Here's everything we know about Sullivan's Crossing season 3, coming in 2025 and starring Morgan Kohan & Chad Michael Murray.

Will there be a season 3 for Sullivan's Crossing?

Yes, Sullivan's Crossing season 3 is on its way! “We are so excited to return to Sullivan’s Crossing next year for a third season,” Brad Schwartz, CW's President, tells Deadline. “Roma, this talented cast, and the entire creative team have built an incredible world full of emotionally charged storytelling that has resonated with viewers over the last two years. And tonight’s season finale includes a can’t-miss cliffhanger that will leave fans clamoring for more.”

Showrunner and executive producer Roma Roth (who's also behind Virgin River) expressed how excited she is to return to the Crossing too! “I am beyond thrilled that we get to continue telling this beautiful story about love and family with this extraordinary cast,” she says. “The love and support from both the fans and The CW has been overwhelming, and we can’t wait to show them what we have in store next.”

How to watch season 3 of Sullivan's Crossing?

Sullivan's Crossing season 3 will premiere on The CW in 2025! You can watch seasons 1 and 2 on The CW now (and rewatch until new episodes drop).

What happened in the Sullivan's Crossing season 2 ending?

Y'all know it's never a dull day at the Crossing (like seriously, can we please give Cal, Maggie, and Sully a BREAK?). In the Sullivan's Crossing season 2 finale, Sully and his friends successfully win the auction for the Crossing, meaning it's staying in the family (along with Sully's new partners Frank and Edna) and not going to Glenn.

Maggie finally tells Cal she's in love with him and they share the kiss we've all been waiting for. But before the episode ends, the group learns that the diner's caught on fire — and Finn and Clover are trapped inside. Sully and Cal run inside to get everyone to safety, and while Cal returns with Finn in tow, Sully remains inside as an explosion goes off. ("You have got to be kidding me," we all say in unison.) After so much back-and-forth in his relationship with Maggie, we can't say goodbye to him yet! But we'll have to wait for Sullivan's Crossing season 3 to see just what happens.

I spent all of high school, and most of college, avoiding the color red. With my very minimal understanding of color analysis, I'd absorbed the idea that because of my cool undertones, I needed to stick in the blue-green-purple world. Plus, the fact that my alma mater's colors are blue (and one of our rival's is red) meant I'd never really needed shades of cranberry, auburn, or ruby. But one clothing swap, When Harry Met Sally movie night, and red sweater later, and my approach to fashion totally changed. Because just like our skin has cool and warm undertones, so do clothes! Now I love wearing my H&M turtleneck sweater, especially since I can recreate one of Meg Ryan's most iconic outfits.

And when red cardigans started trending for fall this year? I became laser focused on a single mission: find the perfect red cardigan and find it quick. But of course my thorough, Type A, oldest daughter mentality meant that to find the perfect sweater, I had to scroll through hundreds of options. Red cardigans are like wearing red lipstick — they're an easy, bold addition to any outfit! Here are the best results, per my very thorough research.

  • Red cardigans are an easy, bold way to brighten any outfit.
  • Red cardigans can work for any skin tone because they come in so many tones.
  • Here are an editor's picks — including Old Navy, Target, and J. Crew — after scrolling through hundreds of options.

Old Navy SoSoft Crop Red Cardigan Sweater

Old Navy

These Old Navy cardigans have taken the internet by storm, and for good reason. They come in multiple colors, they're ultra flattering, and they're super soft. The 53 percent cotton x 24 percent recycled polyester is like wrapping yourself up in a blanket, but it's not thick enough that you'll sweat through it. And to top it off, while writing this story, the Old Navy site is telling me 3,839other usersviewed this item today. Grab one while you can!

Target Cozy Knit Button-Front Red Cardigan

Target

Target is always one of my favorite places to hop on a trend while staying within my budget, and its red cardigans are no different. This pick had midweight fabric (made with polyester, acrylic, and spandex) and I'm obsessed with the dimension the ribbed cuffs and tortoiseshell buttons add!

Target Rib Pearl Shrunken Sweater Cardigan

Target

Prefer thinner fabric? This red cardigan has the same classy neckline but features faux pearl buttons that Blair Waldorf would be all over. The cropped hemline is perfect for all your high-rise denim, and considering this sweater comes to just $24, you might as well grab another color or the perfect pair of fall shoes.

Banana Republic Red Ribbed Merino Cardigan

Banana Republic

I love a crew neckline, but if you're more a V-neck fan, Banana Republic has you covered. The split cuffs and rib knit is ultra modern, and the slim fit means it's perfect for layering. But my favorite part is BR's Responsible Wool Standard that makes sure the sheep themselves are protected.

Zara Smooth Knit Crop Cardigan

Zara

I'm obsessed with this Zara single-button cardigan just for how unexpected it is. This is great for days you want extra color and dimension but you don't need the warmth of a sweater. The silhouette and square button are classy, but the asymmetrical look gives it a new age look.

Urban Outfitters Kimchi Blue Rachel Cardigan

Urban Outfitters

If you're looking for a super bright red cardigan, definitely check out this Urban Outfitters piece. If you look closely, you can see it features just a bit of white or gray alongside the red, which makes the whole thing even more eye-catching! Pair with an LBD or my favorite combo: white tee, jeans, and sneakers.

Mango Curly-Knit Red Cardigan With Jewel Buttons

Mango

Speaking of LBDs, if you need a red cardigan to dress up an outfit, this cozy sweater is great for any occasion. Despite the fact the cardigan is all one color, the different designs along the hem, collar, and buttons provide plenty of contrast. I'm a firm believer in "the devil's in the details," and these jewel effect buttons prove it!

J. Crew Featherweight Cashmere Pointelle Shrunken Cardigan Sweater

J. Crew

If you'd describe your style as kitsch, this pointelle sweater will add the perfect dose of creativity to your fall outfits. The design (and four pockets) give it a super cute vintage look, but the cropped hemline and fitted silhouette make it modern enough to go with all the latest trends.

Aritzia Cashmere Relaxed Crew Cardigan

Aritzia

In need of a football game outfit? Something to dress up your grocery store look while staying comfy? This cardigan is what you're looking for. The 100 percent Grade-A cashmere just might make you feel like you're wearing pajamas, and the midweight fabric will keep you warm without leaving you overheated. And once it really gets cold, you can layer it with your favorite turtleneck!

Free People Most Wanted Cardi

Free People

If you're still in desperate need of warm-weather options, this short sleeve piece will give the illusion that you're wearing a cardigan without committing to a thick, fuzzy sweater. The cap sleeves and flayer hem are totally reminding me of all the peplum silhouettes I saw on red carpets this fall. The deep cherry color is also great for anyone who prefers toned-down shades.

French Connection Fluffy Knit Cardigan

Macy's

Every time I see a piece from French Connection, it stops me in my tracks, and this red cardigan is no exception. It's relaxed, it's bold, it's adorable. I love the way the color of the buttons blend into the sweater, while the shiny material still stands out against the fabric. Wear it buttoned with just a bralette or overtop of a bodysuit! It goes good with everything.

Glen Powell is the gift that keeps on giving, TBH. From his viral Anyone But Youpress tour to his iconic Twisterscowboy-in-the-rain scene, it's Glen Powell's world and we're all just living in it. Thankfully, the Glen-iverse is expanding with a new movie, and it's set to be spicier than ever. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Homewrecker, the upcoming erotic thriller, just officially landed at a production company, finally making Glen's new movie a reality. Wanna know more? Let's get into it!

Here's everything to know about Glen Powell's upcoming erotic thriller, Homewrecker!

Not too much is known about Homewrecker — other than that it's an erotic thriller. The film is based off of an unpublished story by Neil M. Paik (Reawakening, Rainbowfish) that's only three chapters long.
The Hollywood Reporterbroke the news that Legendary won the bidding war for Homewrecker this week. According to the outlet, there was "a seven-figure outright purchase" for the film rights and "a seven-figure arrangement" to have Paik write the screenplay.
With that deal in place, Glen Powell is set to star and produce this project, with Paik writing the script. So far, everything else is very under wraps, but here's what I do know:
  • Glen Powell is one of the most charming men in Hollywood, so I know he's gonna bring that charm to new heights in this film — even if they're slightly sinister heights!
  • Glen Powell in the rain in Twisters (yes, it's the second time I'm brining this up — it's fine) was so hot, and he wasn't even doing anything actually hot...just imagine the erotic thriller possibilities here!
  • IMAGINE YET ANOTHER GLEN POWELL PRESS TOUR?
Basically, all this goes to say, the girlies stay winning when it comes to Glen Powell. 🙌 Can't wait for more updates on this very exciting project!
