Why People Are Posting This New Kind of Selfie

Due to daily commutes involving harsh scents, lots of traffic (foot and vehicle) and rude people every *once* in a while, we tend to forget how much we actually love the cities we live in. Until each weekend rolls around, that is ;) A new social media trend is looking to make you fall back in love with the place you call home by giving it some much-needed hugs.

The Hug Your City selfie (see above!) was born spontaneously when product strategist Alfie Dennen had a friend from Berlin visiting him in London. The duo was taking a photo of the London City Hall when he decided to put his arm around the building to give it a little squeeze. We spoke with Alfie to get a little more background on this RT-worthy kind of selfie and he gave us the inside scoop on his random building embrace: “I think I gave it a hug because it’s round and somehow looks cute. Since that first hug I’ve had a couple of #huglondon excursions. It’s a super fun thing to do with friends.” You know, sometimes we feel the same love for buildings in SF, so we get where you’re coming from, Alfie.

While it started out as a random act of hugging, Alfie is looking to turn the embraces into a social media trend, and we’re really into the reason behind it. “Urban landscapes and architecture are often under-appreciated, and we tend to take photos of things and stand in front of them like ‘oh look, a building.’ Hug Your City puts both the photographer and the subject into a fun and joyful intervention with the city, communing with it in a nice sweet way,” he shared with us. Alfie’s mission is simple: “What’s great is that it makes you look at your own city in a different and new way — as a loving tourist in your own city.” Seriously, this trend is giving us all the feels for the beautiful architecture San Francisco (and the world) has to offer.

Photos of people giving hugs to their cities’ landmarks have been popping up in London and Florence so far (step up your game, America!), but Alfie hopes it will become a global trend. Other than his native London, he would like to see some building buddying-up in Spain. “Barcelona would be a great place for some love. There’s a lot of very warm, rounded and huggable buildings there like Gaudi’s Casa Milà and the Torre Agba skyscraper.”

This isn’t just an opportunity for some fun photos; Alfie hopes Hug Your City “makes people feel great about the city they live in and the person or people they are exploring it with. In its purest form it humanizes our relationships to our sometimes otherwise drab urban environments.” Take in all the sights, people!

Go out and hug your city, then share your sweet embraces on Twitter + Instagram. BRB, going to hug the Painted Ladies (thanks for this pretty pic, Rosee). <3

In our Take 5 series, sponsored by Verizon, we ask women in business about unexpected challenges, their inspirations, recent wins, and how the free Verizon Small Business Digital Ready Program has helped propel their business forward. Here, we meet Rita Suzanne, a marketing strategist for health and wellness businesses who learned to network, connect with other entrepreneurs, and build her business online and IRL.

What's an unexpected business challenge that you've had to face and how did you overcome it?

The hardest thing for me was my sister passed away and I ended up taking custody of my nieces. I ended up being a single mom of four kids. This is the thing that transitioned my whole entire life. I stopped doing web design and started my podcast Mom Owned and Operated. I wanted to reconnect with other moms and figure out how they were able to run their businesses and raise a family and take care of themselves because I wasn't able to do all three at the same time. Through that journey, I realized that I really needed to connect with other people and how important it was for my business. It helped me to create that community that I was yearning for that I didn't realize that I needed.

What's a recent small win for your business?

For me, the win was just pivoting back to something that I actually wanted to do. Also, I’ve started to say no to things that I no longer want to do.

Who is a woman in business that you look up to and why?

I have always admired and looked up to Amy Porterfield [author of Two Weeks Notice]. I listened to her all the time when I was starting out. I think that she's amazing and I love her stuff. She just seems like a very genuine person.

Is there a resource that has made an impact on you as an entrepreneur?

I listen to a lot of audio books. One of my favorites that has been huge for me is You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero. I was told when I first started my business, by a friend who was a business coach, that I have a mindset problem. Ten years ago, I had no idea even what “mindset” was. Sincero’s book helped me to see what she meant by “mindset” and helped me adjust that mindset and fix some of the things that I didn't realize were broken.

How has the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready Program helped propel your business forward?

There are a lot of things that I have loved about it. There are local networking and training opportunities, and that has been great, and the online training is very valuable. It's a great resource. I find that marketing needs a three-tiered approach, meaning you need to network it locally, socially, and then also have a very comprehensive online approach to your marketing. One of the Verizon Small Business trainings that I took was all about taking advantage of your local resources. I found that to be extremely valuable because often people think they need to just focus on social media. I don't think that people focus enough on their local community.

Women like Kristin Cavallariare giving a middle finger to outdated rules like who's allowed to have an age gap relationship or not, and it's refreshing to see. As much as we remember her for her time on The Hills, she's branched out as an author, entrepreneur, and host of the podcast Let's Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari. Speaking of her podcast, Kristin Cavallari didn't hold back in her when she dished about her ex-boyfriend Mark Estes.

At first listen, her giddy tone is evident and immediately captivated listeners for the 45 minutes she gushed about the key details that led her to a new relationship. Since then, the two had quite a public relationship even if was short-lived!

How did Kristin Cavallari meet her ex-boyfriend Mark Estes?

Mike Coppola/Getty Images

We're truly living in a digital age because TikTok is the reason Kristin Cavallari was introduced to her ex-boyfriend Mark Estes. She told her best friend Justin Anderson that she was scrolling down her timeline when she came across what she called a "boy group" called The Montana Boyz and they both agreed one of them specifically is her type. She said, "He's gorgeous. Like, everything about him is perfect. But, he's also outdoorsy and manly."

Three weeks later, she got a DM from The Montana Boyz that said "I love you" and she immediately let them know she wanted to have them on her podcast. Although the podcast didn't happen, Kristin Cavallari appeared in one of their TikTok videos. Once Kristin Cavallari learned from her assistant that they were planning to move to Nashville, she arranged for a line dancing meet-up with The Montana Boyz and her staff. After they met, Kristin decided to call the guy who would become her ex-boyfriend "Montana." (Cavallari used Montana as a stand in for her boyfriend's real name during the podcast recording as she never names anyone explicitly on her show.)

Shortly after that, Kristin Cavallari hard launched her new relationship with ex-boyfriend Mark Estes on Instagram in February, and the rest is history!

How did she feel about their age gap?

Presley Ann/Getty Images for MTV

Kristin Cavallari didn't know how young The Montana Boyz were, but she wasn't interested in pursuing a relationship with Mark Estes at first. She did admit she had a brief issue with their age gap, but decided that Mark being 24 while she's 37 didn’t really bother her. Justin pointed out that she actually used to say she wouldn't date guys who were only 30 because she thought they were too young. However, she was more interested in who Mark was as a person and notes that life experiences and how you were raised is more indicative of one's maturity level than age alone.

Did Kristin Cavallari's kids like Mark Estes?

Jason Kempin/Getty Images

Kristin Cavallari said her boys were so excited to meet Mark for the first time and she felt like they really wanted her to be happy. "I've been really good about separating my dating life from their [life]," she said. Her oldest son especially approved of Mark and it was shocking to Kristin because he's usually the toughest judge of whoever she's dating.

How did her career prepare her for public opinions about their relationship?

Terry Wyatt/Getty Images

Kristin Cavallari didn’t care what anyone thought about her ex-boyfriend. She's lived life in the public eye and is comfortable enough with herself to make decisions that make her happy. Kristin said, "...when this news came out, it's the first time in my entire life I 100% haven't given a sh-t what anyone thinks... My own mother is noticing a difference in me."

Did she mention anything about her divorce from Jay Cutler?

Timothy Hiatt/Getty Images

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler were married for seven years before announcing their divorce in 2020. She didn't go into detail about it during the podcast episode, but she did talk about the magnitude of her former relationship with her ex-boyfriend. "It's the first time I've gone public since my divorce," she said.

How did Mark Estes adjust to being in the public eye with Kristin Cavallari?

Montana Boyz's Mark Estes Says He's a "TRUE ROMANTIC" With Girlfriend Kristin Cavallari | E! News

Mark Estes may be in the spotlight because he dated Kristin Cavallari, but that didn’t mean he was enthusiastic about it. E! News caught up with him at the CMT Awards and he said, "It comes with the territory, I guess...It is what it is." One thing his friend Kade Wilcox — another one of The Montana Boyz — mentioned is that Mark was quite the romanticist when it came to Kristin Cavallari. He told the outlet, "He's pretty good at date nights."

How did Kristin Cavallari feel about dating a younger man?

Uncommon James

Kristin Cavallari and Mark Estes may have been in bliss for a short while, but the former knows having an age gap in a relationship isn't always applauded by others. " I understand what it looks like from the outside world of, like, yeah, I’m dating a 24-year-old, but no one in my life has been like, ‘This is weird.’ Everyone’s like, ’I get it. It makes sense,'" she said (via Bustle).

She also said, "...Emotionally, he’s able to step up to the plate, and he’s shown up for me more than anyone else I’ve ever dated," (via Bustle). And according to her, Mark's all in when it comes to her kids and they love him for it. "He loves my kids. He actually took my kids to school, and it's just—he fits in very well. And I'm really thankful for that," (via E! News).

It's not easy balancing being an attentive mom who has a full-fledged career and relationship, but Kristin seemed grateful for the way Mark stepped up to the plate. She said he made things feel "so easy" which is something all moms crave!

Hard Feelings The Debut Eau De Parfum From Uncommon James

Since talking about everything from her time on Laguna Beach to her relationship, Kristin Cavallari and Mark Estes appeared together in an ad campaign for her brand's new fragrance, Hard Feelings. It's described as an "alluring" scent that's meant to invigorate one's senses. With notes like pink pepper, hibiscus, and sandalwood, we don't doubt it's sensuality!

What's the steamy thing  Kristin revealed about her former relationship?

Uncommon James

During the "Truth or Drink with Mark Estes" episode on Let's Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari, Kristin and Mark delved into steamy secrets about their relationship. The latter even dropped a bombshell when he admitted he enjoyed being intimate with Kristin. He said, "Yeah, you’re the best sex I've ever had for sure," which shocked her.

Though she liked his confession, she said she "didn't know that" before letting him know she felt the same. But, she attributed their hot sex to things like being "more present physically during sex" and being "wildly attracted" to Mark.

But, their relationship isn't all about their amazing romps in bed. Mark was “obviously so in love" with Kristin so that added to the spiciness factor!

Why did Kristin Cavallari And Mark Estes break up?

Mindy Small/Getty Images

Sadly, all of the passion Kristin Cavallari and Mark Estes had fizzled out because they broke up after 7 months of being in a relationship (via Us Weekly). She told Alex Cooper, host of the Call Her Daddy podcast, the breakup was “fresh,” (via PEOPLE ).

It doesn’t seem like their breakup ended on a sour note, but we’ll see if they share more about it in the coming weeks!

If you've been online recently, then I'm sure you've become all too familiar with the #tradwife aesthetic — and the ladies who come along with it and dominate our FYP's at the moment. The two that you've probably seen the most? Ballerina Farm and Nara Smith.

Nara Smith took the internet by storm with her "from scratch" meals she makes while simultaneously raising her three kids and modeling alongside her husband at just 22 years old. Nara begins just about every video with, "My kids woke up and told me they wanted ___ so I decided to make it." And she proceeds to cook her "from completely scratch" meal for whatever her kids or husband want that day — all while in full glam and a gown.

She's loved and loathed at the same time, but regardless you can't look away. Her content, among so many other tradwife creators, portrays a life deemed "simple," but leaves viewers feeling that it may not actually be attainable. It opens up a wider conversation around societal expectation of women, and how these "aesthetic" lifestyles may be damaging to women's overall esteem.

This then makes us ask the question: does Nara Smith actuallyauthentically live out this unrealistic lifestyle every day? Or is it simply a show she puts on for social media? After compiling some of Nara's most unhinged and unrealistic videos, I talked to clinical psychologist Dr. Charlynn Ruan and mental health professional Natalie Rosado to get their opinion on this new #tradwife lifestyle. Here's what I found out!

What is a tradwife?

A tradwife is just short for "traditional wife," meaning that a woman falls into the more stereotypical or traditional roles for women in society — think cooking, cleaning, domestication, or homemaking. None of these acts are inherently negative or punitive for a tradwife, but simply the way they live their lives and lean into those traditional roles.

Is this attainable for most women?

Dr. Charlynn Ruan, Licensed Clinical Psychologist and the founder of Thrive Psychology Group, explains that it's not harmful for a woman to choose to be a homemaker "as long as she is in an arrangement that protects her financially and otherwise." For most women, however, this lifestyle is solely dependent on your partner. You cannot work a full-time job, raise your children, be a wife, and cook completely from scratch every single day. Even the recent Sunday Times article featuring Ballerina Farm suggests that she would lay in bed for weeks from exhaustion trying to keep with this lifestyle.

Given how dependent this lifestyle ultimately is, Dr. Charlynn recommends that you have an arrangement in place that protects you from solely relying on your partner to take care of you financially. She says that her concern is that women aren't seeing the long term consequences of the “tradwife” role and are instead inextricably linking one’s financial stability and wellbeing with one’s relationship. This has, historically, not often worked out well for women.

Can the tradwife lifestyle be harmful?

Photo by Florida Memory on Unsplash

While the tradwife trend may seem fun to consume, it could potentially have longterm mental health effects that we have yet to see. I talked to licensed mental health professional, Natalie Rosado, to ask what implications this may have and she said it affects these spheres of womanhood:

  • Autonomy: These women are portraying a deflection of self, instead focusing on the servitude of their family. Which can be an incredible gift, and joy for many, but the content is primarily focused on the servitude of others, thus communicating the message that autonomy/independence as a woman doesn't matter.
  • Unrealistic Expectations: Rosado says that this new fad is enchanting to look at but is subconsciously romanticizing an unrealistic expectation of motherhood and family roles. She said that this could be detrimental to mental health because it can create immense pressure on women to live up to these standards, leading to feelings of inadequacy, guilt, and low self-esteem when they inevitably fall short.
  • Mental Health Risks: Women have increasingly high expectations put on them by so many people: society, their families, their husbands, their kids, other women. So this is just creating another layer of expectations for them to meet, which, however unrealistic, will make women guilty that they are not meeting these standards.
  • Perpetuation of Gender Stereotypes: Rosado says that this aesthetic reinforces outdated gender stereotypes, which can hinder any progress we may have made toward gender equality. She says that this perpetuation suggests a woman's primary value lies in only her domestic abilities. This way of thinking can be incredibly damaging to her sense of worth and potential.
This trending topic continues to open up a wider conversation on what it means to be a woman in today's society. If we were to rewind 60-70 years to the 1950's or 1960's, then this would be a commonality. But in today's modern world, women are already expected to do so much on top of being a homemaker, and this trend may be only adding to that.

Who is Nara Smith?

www.instagram.com

Nara Smith was essentially deemed the mom of the tradwife trend, based on her Tiktok claim to fame for creating outlandishly fresh, "from scratch" meals in full glam and a gown at six in the morning. Smith is only 23 years old, but is already a mom to three children, stepmom to another child, wife, model, content creator, and homemaker. Her husband, Lucky Blue Smith, is also a Tumblr "It Boy" turned model. They married each other quite young, and immediately started having children to start a family. The two now live in Texas, but previously lived in L.A. and Germany (where Nara's family is from).

Smith started off with rather simple recipes like easy Mediterranean dishes, but the more followers she gained, the progressively more difficult she made her dinners and the more elaborate gowns she wore. It became clear that she was going to play into this "tradwife" culture as much as possible.

Why does she live this lifestyle?

Grace O'Driscoll

While I've come to enjoy this content, it can definitely be bit jarring when it's noon on a Sunday and I still haven't cooked breakfast — and definitely not from scratch. And although Smith may have multiple nannies or family members watching her kids while she films all of this, her content becomes much more relatable when you realize that it stems from her having debilitating eczema that is caused by what she eats so she cooks from scratch to prevent that. So although Smith's recipes have gotten more and more elaborate and untouchable, it takes a sweeter tone when you realize that she's cooking from scratch in order to give her and her family a healthy lifestyle that doesn't cause her skin to flair up.

I know from experience, having eczema myself, some of the products in America can be particularly unhealthy and modified so it makes complete sense that she would want to protect herself — and her skin — from that. Especially since, her parents are from South Africa and Germany, where the food is a bit more healthy and less processed.

Is there a positive impact when it comes to tradwives?

While this trend has its implications, there are many who say that — like any fad on social media — it has to be taken with a grain of salt. You have to view it as fiction, because that's partly what it is. There aren't many average people who have the ability and resources to wake up before a 9-5 to make three meals from scratch in a full face of makeup and dress — it's simply unrealistic.

So, if you take tradwife videos as fiction — like most reality shows — then you're able to take a step back and enjoy it for what it is: content and inspiration. In the case of Smith, she's a stunningly gorgeous woman with a sweet family and a penchant for recreating complicated and elaborate meals. You can either ignore it, or enjoy it! I can definitely say that I decided to make a few of Smith's recipes myself...they were failures, but I still tried!

The point is, this content can be fun! And as someone who's watched far more videos than I'd like to admit, I've definitely seen a ton of moments that are so outlandish and entertaining that I have to wonder if Smith is trolling us. So, I present to you five moments where Nara Smith went so tradwife that I'm not sure what's real and what's fake.

Nara Smith Makes Her Own Cheese

@naraazizasmith absolute perfection 🫶🏽 #easyrecipe#homemade#baking#toddlersoftiktok#grilledcheese#fypシ♬ Me Cry - NGOTUAN NGUYX

One of the first times I came across Nara Smith was when she made grilled cheese. I remember thinking, "Oh that's great that she makes her own bread — how cute." Then she began to curdle and cook her own cheese, and I was fascinated immediately. This isn't your average home-cooked meal, this is a tradwife home-cooked meal. With fresh baked bread and cheese for her toddlers upon request.

Nara Cooks A Mediterranean Meal In A Gown

@naraazizasmith family dinners 🥺 #easyrecipe#homecooking#fypツ#mediterranean#dinnerideas♬ Just Give Me One More Day - Alej

This next video came on my FYP, and I realized that she has to be playing into this narrative that people have created of her: the picture perfect "tradwife." And it's smart! In fact, it's a genius marketing tactic. People are already talking about how crazy she is for getting glammed up to cook from scratch, so why not make it even crazier? Honestly, I love it. The more unattainable it is, the less guilty I feel for not being able to cook at all most days. The more the lore intertwines with reality, the more digestible it becomes.

Nara Smith Cooks Crepe In Chanel

@naraazizasmith Oh my… what do you like on your crepes or pancakes?🫶🏽 #easyrecipe#homecooking#dessert#fypツ#crepes#marriage♬ La vie en rose (Cover Edith Piaf) - 田东昱

Only Nara Smith could make home-made Nutella and crepes in a full Chanel Ready-To-Wear outfit that costs upwards of $20,000. In this video, she makes her own home-made Nutella with hazelnuts that she roasted and cooked herself. Then she proceeds to make the crepe from scratch as well. Let's hope she didn't leave a scratch on her Chanel outfit, because that's an expensive mistake. But then again, with her over 9 million followers, she can probably afford it!

Nara Smith Makes Home-Made Bubblegum

@naraazizasmith this was fun! What’s your favorite roadtrip snack? #easyrecipes#homecooking#fypツ#candy#bubblegum♬ Just Give Me One More Day - Alej

In typical Nara Smith fashion, she makes her own bubblegum! I didn't even know this was possible (a phrase I constantly utter when watching her videos), but it's fun to think about doing. It seems relatively easy, and I'd imagine it's quite yummy! This is an unhinged moment that people have been loving to recreate! BRB, adding the ingredients to my cart right now...

Lucky Smith Makes Sunscreen

@naraazizasmith 🤍 #fypツ#easyrecipe#sun#fromscratch#skincare#marriage♬ Just Give Me One More Day - Alej

In this incredibly unhinged moment, Nara has her husband make sunscreen from scratch... that's right. Sunscreen. While this may be fun to watch, dermatologists have come out to say how very dangerous and irresponsible this is to do yourself. This video has to be one of her most unhinged and controversial videos, which occurred after she made her own toothpaste in a separate video. Let's keep to the FDA approved ones for now, folks!

So what do you think? Is Nara being genuine, or is this all a silly internet trend she's just playing into? While I haven't decided for myself...I'll definitely still be watching!

There are so many plot lines in Gilmore Girls season 1 through A Year In The Life, that it's hard to imagine adding anything to the story. But every time I think about a prequel about Emily Gilmore, or the spinoff about Jess Mariano we never got, I can't help but think about what could have been. I mean a story about a 16-year-old Lorelai running off to Stars Hollow and raising Rory as a teenager? That is absolutely the kind of TV I'd eat up (alongside any one of these delicious Gilmore Girls recipes). Well, the latest Gilmore Girls spinoff idea has me spiraling just because of how good it is. And the fact it centers two completely underrated characters: Paris Geller and Lane Kim.

Warner Bros. Television

"Ok who would’ve wanted to see this show [about Paris and Lane?]," one Reddit user asks. "Two intelligent beautiful girls making their way in the big city? Just getting out of college? Roommates? Girlfriends?"

Liza Weil as Paris has always been a standout Gilmore Girls character for me, especially after learning she originally auditioned for Rory and the writers liked her so much, they created Paris just for her. And Keiko Agena gives such a heartfelt and emotional performance as Lane Kim that she's widely regarded as one of the most beloved Gilmore Girls characters, period.

Warner Bros. Television

"I honestly think GG would’ve been so much better had the three girls—Rory, Lane, and Paris—hung out more with each other," another user adds, while a third says, "I wish Lane could have gone to a community college in New Haven or something (idk if new haven has a cc, but tv magic ✨). They could have shared an apartment and we could have the wacky adventures of them."

Running around the city, going to parties, and going through the woes of dating and career life? That's the life Lane deserved!

Neil Jacobs/Netflix

Gilmore Girls fans have never quite loved the way Lane's arc from repressed teen to wife and mother played out (neither did creator Amy Sherman-Palladino for that matter), and it's even more heartbreaking when Lane admits that "all of a sudden I'm this over-burdened mother. I barely got to do it Zack, I barely got the chance to be a person."

Brit + Co writer Aleena Malik questions, "Given how difficult [Lane's] upbringing was, couldn't the show have given her a win by having her be the one who gets to follow her dreams?" I, for one, would have loved to see Lane actually, permanently move in with Rory and Paris instead of just staying with them for a few weeks.

Warner Bros. Television

And if Paris and Lane reached their mid-20s, realized how selfish and out-of-touch Rory can be, and moved to Hartford? More power to them. Both women are so smart and passionate about topics like music and writing that they'd never run out of things to talk about. Plus, Paris would encourage and drive Lane forward in her goals, while Lane would help Paris loosen up.

Because who are we kidding? Rory is always off in her own world, thinking about boys, books, or college. And Paris and Lane definitely deserve someone who will give them as much care, love, and intention as they offer their own relationships.

Dudes — do you own a flannel? Well, we're pretty sure that you do, so behold SIX different ideas for easy costumes for men using that one shirt! You're welcome. Even if you have a different Halloween party every day of the week, you'll have different costumes you can wear to each one. Not only are they made with things you already own, but they're also pretty comfortable if we do say so ourselves.

To make these epic Halloween costumes, we picked up this basic red flannel from our local thrift store for $5 and paired it with a bunch of basic clothes most men already have. Scroll on to see how we made these super easy (last-minute even!) halloween costumes!

Brit + Co

Thanks to Zane for rocking all of these looks!

The Brawny Man Halloween Costume

Brit + Co

Men, get those muscles and those pearly whites ready for this flannel shirt costume! In our eyes, the Brawny Man has everything we're looking for. He’s got that tough muscle bod to swoop us off our feet, the square jaw line to melt our hearts and the perfect dark hair that we just can’t wait to run our fingers through.

Brit + Co

First, shop the (hilarious) Muscle Shirt. Think of it like a push-up bra for your entire torso. Cut off the lower arm section of the muscle suit so you can roll up the flannel sleeves and get down to business. Don't forget to grab a pack of Brawny paper towels to complete the costume!

Brit + Co

Don't panic if you start saying things like, “Oh gosh, is that some dirt over there on your vanity mirror? Girl, I’ve got you. Let me fix that.”

Brit + Co

We're giving this two thumbs' up because it's such an easy costume for men!

Al Borland Halloween Costume

Brit + Co

Remember this 90s sidekick from Home Improvement? Go as him or just any tool-belt-loving fella ;).

Brit + Co

This is a super easy costume for men because if you're a workman, you probably already have the flannel, boot cut jeans, and work boots! The key to getting this look right, however, is all about the accessories. We purchased this basic tool belt from Amazon. Fill it with your tools (or a flask) to really get you in the Halloween spirit.

Brit + Co

We all hate measuring to hang up your favorite framed pieces of wall art. Don’t worry, Al is here to save the day!

Brit + Co

If you don't want to commit to a full bushel of a beard, we understand. We picked up this fake beard and find the look quite comical. You can trim it to get a look that you like best.

Larry The Cable Guy Halloween Costume

Brit + Co

“I'm happier than a tornado in a trailer park!" There's nothing better than a man who can make you laugh. Larry the Cable Guy has a particular kind of humor, but the one thing we can always count on him for is his sleeveless flannel shirts. I guess he must always be running warm.

Brit + Co

Get ready to release some anger, because you’ll need to rip off the sleeves for this look. (Meaning that if you're planning on using all of these costumes, you might want to save this one for last). Pair your sleeveless flannel with boot cut jeans, boots and a trucker-inspired baseball cap.

Brit + Co

This look says, “My cooking is probably subpar, but I can make you laugh while we try to cook together.” ;)

Brit + Co

Larry's signature look is his goatee-mustache combo. We weren't going to subject Zane to actually shaving for this costume, so instead we created the look with a fake goatee stick-on beard and a brown eyebrow pencil. Easy as pie.

The Hipster Halloween Costume

Brit + Co

Does your beer brewing side hobby need your constant attention?

Brit + Co

Zane completely dressed for this costume himself from his own wardrobe. Pair your flannel with a V-neck tee, cuffed slim-fitting jeans and your best pair of leather loafers. Accessories are a must — think thick-rimmed glasses, beanie hat and a cold beer. PBR or Tecate will do the trick, since you are already in the process of creating the perfect beer yourself ;)

Brit + Co

Need man bun styling tips? Or man braids if your hair is long enough.

Marty McFly Halloween Costume

Brit + Co

Okay, real talk – can you believe the year Marty traveled to in his time machine was 2015? How time flies (even if the cars don't).

Brit + Co

Marty’s iconic look is all about the layers, so be sure to add a jean jacket and that signature puffy vest over the flannel. Pair with boot cut jeans and the whitest pair of 90’s (dad) sneakers you own.

Brit + Co

Zach let us borrow his board but you can find an inexpensive skateboard on Amazon too.

Brit + Co

Keep the hair simple. We went for a side part and wind-blown vibes — traveling through time is windy, right?

Wind-blown Man Costume

Brit + Co

We’ve all had those bad umbrella days…All jokes aside, this look was our absolute favorite to create. We are just dying over the fact that no wind or fan was used in creating this photo.

Brit + Co

We had Zane dress in a normal everyday outfit, then added some wind-blown tweaks. You will want to stick wire down the inside of your tie to give it a rippled shape and then safety pin it to corner of the flannel. We also pinned up the bottom corner of the shirt and taped on some wind-blown newspaper ads to the knee of the pants. Most importantly, you’ll want a broken, inside-out umbrella to complete this costume.
