10 Ice Cream Makers to Get the DIY Sundae Party Started

As much as we love heading to our neighborhood creamery or fro-yo joint, there’s nothing like making your very own ice cream at home. And since we’ve already shown you our picks for other amazing frozen treat gadgets, and given you the scoop on how to throw an epic ice cream social, we figured it’s an obvious must that we share with you the best ice cream makers on the market. They range from classy and old-fashioned to high-tech and futuristic, along with everything in between. So dust off the rock salt, grab some sundae toppings and get ready to whip up all of your favorite flavors.

1. Play + Freeze Ice Cream Maker ($23 and up): If you can put in a little bit of elbow grease, this ingenious ice cream maker creates a one-of-a-kind frozen treat. The best part is that it doesn’t even feel like “elbow grease” when you’re just playing with a ball!

2. Cuisinart Pure Indulgence ($70): It ain’t called Pure Indulgence for nothin’! This ice cream maker pulls off specialty frozen blends like a champ. It makes two quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt or sorbet in under an hour, all in a sleek package with a stowaway cord.

3. Nostalgia Electrics Ice Cream Maker ($29): Get all the nostalgia of an old-fashioned ice cream maker with the convenience of a modern machine. An electric motor does the churning and the kitschy design takes you back in time.

4. Yonanas Ice Cream Maker ($51): One of our favorite ice cream alternatives is a tasty frozen banana, but this gadget will take all frozen fruit to a new level. It’s simple to use too, so your new weeknight ritual will be turning those extra cantaloupe slices and rogue berries into tasty ice cream.

5. Hamilton Beach Half Pint Ice Cream Maker ($23): Take your make sesh outside with this stellar portable piece. Bring it on your next picnic (or to the office, we won’t tell) and try out your favorite recipe on the go. It only makes three servings at a time, but at just $23, the sweet price makes up for it.

6. Wooden Bucket Hand Cranked Ice Cream Maker ($167): Machines are great, but there’s something so charming about cranking the ice cream maker yourself. Skip the power outlet and put a little work into making your very own dessert the old-fashioned way.

7. Cuisinart Soft Serve Maker ($70): Get the soft serve of your dreams with this supremely sweet soft serve maker. It packs a big punch as it whips it up in just 20 minutes, holds your cone and dispenses up to three toppings over your ice cream. Bonus: It comes in pink.

8. DeLonghi Gelato Maker ($281): The self-refrigerating compressor in this pick means you can make batches back-to-back without having to put the container in the freezer! It mixes from top to bottom to give the impressive gelato flavor you’ve been longing for.

9. Deni Fully Automatic Ice Cream Maker ($43): Leave the salt and ice behind while this automatic ice cream maker does the work. Plus, you can drop cookies and candy into the built-in crusher for easy-as-pie toppings that’ll blow everyone away.

10. Peddler’s Creamery: If you still like the idea of making your own ice cream but aren’t into investing in gadgets, you could always travel to Los Angeles to churn it with your own two legs! This fun creamery serves dozens of flavors of bicycle-churned, organic ice cream that’ll change your life. (via Peddler’s Creamery)

It’s no secret that Trader Joe’s absolutely kills it in the dessert department. I’m a massive fan of their Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupsand Chocolatey Coated Chocolate Chip Cookie Dunkers, but taking a gander down the frozendesserts aisle is an entirely different ballgame. From fruit-flavored mochi to decadent chocolate layered ice cream sammies, there’s something at Trader Joe’s for every kind of sweet tooth. Perfect for mid-day and midnight snacks alike, these are the 8 best Trader Joe’s frozen desserts that are worth every bite.

Scroll on for the 8 Trader Joe’s frozen desserts that belong in your next grocery haul!

Trader Joe's

1. Coffee Bean Hold the Cone! Mini Ice Cream Cones

These coffee-flavored, chocolate-covered, mini-sized ice cream cones are a total hoot. Their small size makes 'em unbelievably easy to snack on, though, so it may take some restraint to not eat the whole box in a single sitting (speaking from experience). You get a little bit of creaminess and crunch with each piece, which is insanely satisfying – and something you don't get too much of – from a frozen treat!

@traderjoesobsessed

2. Blood Orange Mochi Ice Cream

These addicting little pockets of blood orange-flavored ice cream wrapped in sweet mochi dough are super nostalgic, especially for someone like me who practically grew up on Flintstone's Push-Ups! They're the ideal finger food, and though you might assume eating each piece is messy, the snackin' experience is anything but. With just enough zing from the blood orange and plenty of sugary goodness, you're definitely going to want to buy at least three boxes at a time during your TJ's runs.

Trader Joe's

3. Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches

These ice cream sammies are simply a modern take on a beloved classic. They're just like those popular treats you can pick up at the gas station, but with tons more chocolate chips. TJ's says they've perfected the best "crunchy-chewy ratio" possible for the duo of chocolate chip cookies involved, both of which hug a thick dollop of vanilla ice cream for a sweet summertime – or anytime, really – refreshment.

@traderjolene

4. Macaron Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwiches

This brand-new Trader Joe's frozen dessert already has fans going crazy, and I get it – it's basically two of the best desserts in one! Surrounded by a pair of "delicate" macaron shells, these chocolate ice cream sandwiches are totally chocolated out. I'm certain any fan of chocolate will adore them.

A TJ's fan on Reddit noted that the macaron component of this treat is "perfectly cooked, sweet and chewy," while the ice cream "tastes premium... and has a lot of chocolate flavor."

"It’s like they made these just for me," someone else chimed in on the thread. Same here!

Trader Joe's

5. Chocolate Croissants

If you didn't know Trader Joe's carries frozen croissants by now, you've truly been missing out. No more paying $5 per pastry at your local cafe! These bake-and-eat goodies are crafted with high-quality butter and semisweet Belgian chocolate for a deliciously sweet balance – all without having to laminate the dough yourself (amen)! I love treating myself to this box to enjoy on a lazy Sunday morning alongside some fresh coffee.

Trader Joe's

6. Lemon Bars

As fun as they are to make yourself, these frozen, ready-to-eat lemon bars erase the need for you to drag out all of your bakeware! Also – oven, who?! After thawing out at room temp a bit, these truly taste just as fresh as they would if you DIY'ed them. These are my go-to Trader Joe's frozen dessert if I'm attending a party and need to bring something to share... but don't necessarily have all the time in the world to whip something up.

Trader Joe's

7. Speculoos Cookie Butter Ice Cream

Die-hard TJ's fanatics might already know the pure magic that is their Speculoos Cookie Butter, but not many know that the grocer's incorporated it into a deliciously creamy pint of ice cream! This frozen find is swirled with the famous butter and packed with pieces of cookie for extra Speculoos oomph. I like to add some chocolate chips to mine (like a total chocolate fiend), but I also think TJ's Teensy Candy Bars or crushed Chocolate Vanilla Creme Joe-Joe's would work wonderfully as toppings.

Trader Joe's

8. Brownie Crisp Coffee Ice Cream Sandwiches

Chocolate and coffee is a top-tier food combo, and it's downright irresistible if it comes in a frozen form like this. While traditional ice cream sandwiches typically come with cookies as the top and bottom layers, this TJ's dessert comes complete with a duo of brownie crisps to provide a unique bite. Eat them on their own, or dare to go bold and try one affogato-style!

If you've spent the last couple of months glued to your screen watching The White Lotus, then you're already familiar with the genius of Mike White. The insanely popular HBO show just aired its divisive season 3 finale, and plenty of viewers are upset about parting ways with the series for now.

However,The White Lotus is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Mike White's filmography. He's had a hand in plenty of hidden gems and fan favorites, from the hit movie School of Rock to the rom-com The Good Girl and the teen drama Dawson's Creek.

So, as we eagerly await Season 4 of The White Lotus, you can still get your Mike White fix. Here are 10 TV shows and movies that he's worked on.

Scroll to see all the Mike White movies & TV shows you should watch while you wait for the next season of The White Lotus.

Black & White Productions

1. Year of the Dog

In Year of the Dog, Mike White delivers a powerful story about grief and transformation. It stars Molly Shannon as Peggy, a kindhearted woman whose life starts to unravel following the sudden death of her dog, Pencil.

But then, this story of loss turns into a journey of self-discovery as Peggy becomes an animal activist. Year of the Dog was both written and directed by Mike White.

Amazon Prime Studios

2. Brad's Status

This movie stars Ben Stiller as Brad, a guy who starts to question his achievements when comparing himself to his more "successful" college friends during a trip with his son.

The comedy-drama tackles themes of envy, regret, and insecurities, but still has Mike White's signature stamp of subtle humor. Other cast members in Brad's Status include Austin Abrams, Luke Wilson, and Michael Sheen.

Paramount

3. School of Rock

School of Rock is one of Mike White's most successful projects. While the 2003 film was actually directed by Richard Linklater, it was Mike who penned the script and let Jack Black shine as Dewey Finn, who fakes his way into a substitute teaching job.

To this day, School of Rock remains a cult classic that's high energy and takes viewers on a feel-good journey.

Editor's Note: Haley Sprankle wants the world to know this is her favorite movie of all time. In her opinion, it's truly a perfect film and should be a required viewing for everyone. Let's rock today!

HBO

4. Enlightened

Before The White Lotus, there was Enlightened, an HBO series that showcased Mike White's talent for creating complex and flawed characters.

Laura Dern stars as Amy Jellicoe, a corporate executive whose public meltdown leads her down a path of spiritual awakening and reinvention. It's a quiet but powerful precursor to Mike's storytelling style, which he perfected in The White Lotus.

Odeon Films

5. Chuck & Buck

Chuck & Buck is an uncomfortable yet oddly touching indie film that showcases Mike White's talent for balancing cringey humor with emotional depth.

He actually stars as Buck, a socially awkward man who's still clinging to a childhood friendship with Chuck, played by Chris Weitz. This early screenplay, which came out in 2000, laid the groundwork for his distinctive tone.

Fox Searchlight Pictures

6. The Good Girl

Jennifer Aniston stars as Justine, a bored and unhappily married retail worker in The Good Girl. Then, she has an affair with her younger coworker named Holden, played by Jake Gyllenhaal.

This lesser-known rom-com came out in 2002, and Mike White's writing style helps bring out the complexity of seemingly mundane lives. Other cast members in The Good Girl include John C. Reilly, Deborah Rush, Tim Blake Nelson, and Zooey Deschanel.

Paramount Pictures

7. Orange County

Again, Mike's unique perspective brought a clever twist to the teen comedy genre in Orange County. Colin Hanks stars as Shaun, a high school student who's desperate to get into Stanford, but because of an application mix-up, his dreams are derailed.

With the help of his brother Lance, portrayed by Jack Black, he tries to make things right and ultimately realizes he can achieve his dreams closer to home.

Paramount

8. Nacho Libre

You may not have known that Mike White co-wrote Nacho Libre, the strangely sweet 2006 comedy starring Jack Black. In the film, Jack plays Nacho, a monastery cook who secretly moonlights as a masked wrestler to help support the orphans he cares for.

Even in 2025, Nacho Libre remains a cult classic (and continues to inspire plenty of Halloween costumes every year).

Universal

9. Despicable Me 4

The heartwarming and family-friendly Despicable Me 4 is a far cry from The White Lotus, but believe it or not, Mike White had a hand in writing this massively successful animated film, too.

While it's definitely different than most of his filmography, viewers can still feel Mike's style in the movie's mix of bizarre humor and unexpected emotional beats. This iteration of the franchise follows Gru as he balances fatherhood while facing yet another villainous threat.

The WB

10. Dawson's Creek

Lastly, Mike White also flexed his writing muscles on the teen drama hit Dawson's Creek, which ran from 1998 to 2003. The show followed a group of close-knit friends as they navigated the messiness of young adulthood and love in a small town.

Dawson's Creek featured stars like James Van Der Beek, Joshua Jackson, Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams, and Chad Michael Murray.

Trader Joe's

Trader Joe’s Hold the Cone! Mini Ice Cream Cones category includes classics like strawberry, chocolate, and chocolate chip, but a newcomer just joined the lineup: coffee bean! The cones are truly a cult-favorite item amongst shoppers, including myself!

Trader Joe's

According to Trader Joe’s, the Coffee Bean Hold the Cone! Mini Ice Cream Cones feature mini chocolate sugar cones lined with a “chocolatey” coating that are then packed with a rich and “strongly flavored” coffee bean ice cream.

Trader Joe's

Chocolate and coffee is a truly stunning food combo, so coffee and dessert lovers will adore this new iteration. Additionally, their small size makes them absolutely irresistible for snacking sessions – I could honestly eat the whole box in one sitting.

@traderjoesobsessed

One Tree Hill fans go through a lot throughout the show's 9-season run. Everything from family drama to psycho stalkers, kidnappers, and murder. But there's one down-to-earth moment in the series that confuses fans just as much as the outlandish ones: when Brooke (Sophia Bush) marries Julian (Austin Nichols) and her BFF Peyton (Hilarie Burton) isn't there.

Here's why Peyton (and Hilarie Burton) didn't come back for Brooke's wedding on One Tree Hill.

Why did Peyton not go to Brooke's wedding?

@dramaqueenspodcast hilarie wasn't invited back to Brooke wedding #brulian#austinnichols#julianbaker#sophiabush#brookedavis#haleyjamesscott#peytonsawyer#bethanyjoylenz#dramaqueensoth#dramaqueenspodcast#onetreehill#braley♬ original sound - Drama Queens Podcast

In an episode of their Drama Queens rewatch podcast, Sophia Bush finally explained the real reason Peyton wasn't at Brooke's wedding: Hilarie Burton just...wasn't asked.

"Since you're talking about how much sh—t you got, I feel like this is a really important moment to tell our fans that we were told, Joy and I, that you had been invited back for the episode and said no," Sophia Bush says. "They had essentially asked us in the press to be like, 'Oh, well, you know, she was invited to come but was doing White Collar,' or whatever you were working on at the time...When I talked to you and found out that was a lie, I went ballistic. I was so mad. Oo I was mad!"

Sophia did tell Hollywood Life in 2011 that, "We really tried, and we of course would have been thrilled because their characters were big parts of our story. It doesn’t always work. So for the fans out there who always ask me on Twitter to get the bosses to ask them back, they’ve been asked back… but scheduling conflicts are scheduling conflicts.”

“Quite frankly, we just couldn’t make a deal,” creator Mark Schwahn also told TV Line at the time. “Everybody had the best intentions. But at the end of the day, it just didn’t work out.”

The fact that Peyton didn't show up to Brooke's wedding has always been a pain point with fans because it just doesn't make sense for her to miss her lifelong best friend's wedding! "Peyton should have been at Brooke's wedding," Bethany Joy Lenz says.

"Peyton should have been there and it wasn't up to any of us," Sophia adds.

Hilarie shed some light on the situation from her perspective, explaining that she only remembers getting one call to guest star, but she was heavily pregnant.

"I was pregnant with Gus, it was in October of I guess season 7, and my manager got a call that was like, 'Hilarie's on the board for this episode, so we're trying schedule her travel,'" she explains. "And we had had an epic fallout as I left the show, and my manager had been told all these things by our bosses that were just like horrific about me and that I'd never work again and all this stuff. And so it was just this really pleasant call from, like, a secretary...I was like super pregnant! And I was like 'Uh, I'm unavailable.'"

"We'll just have to do it again," Hilarie adds. Who knows, maybe the One Tree Hill sequel series will feature a vow renewal!

Does Brooke marry anyone in One Tree Hill?

Warner Bros. TV

Yes, Brooke Davis marries film producer Julian Davis after he proposes in the season 7 finale, "Almost Everything I Wish I'd Said the Last Time I Saw You" — my favorite episode of television ever!

What episode does Brooke get married in One Tree Hill?

Brooke and Julian get married in One Tree Hill season 8, episode 13, "The Other Half Of Me."
