Jake Johnson Took the Best Souvenirs from the ‘New Girl’ Set

After seven hilarious seasons, New Girl will air its final episode tonight, May 15. We knew this was coming, obviously, but we’ve grown to love Jess, Nick, Schmidt, Cece, and Winston like family, and it won’t be easy to say goodbye to them or to the show. Jake Johnson, who plays Nick Miller, indulged us in a little reminiscing about the series ahead of Tuesday’s two-part finale, which will see Nick and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) *finally* tie the knot.

Brit + Co: So, tonight is the series finale of New Girl. Without giving anything away, can you say whether you’re satisfied with how it ends?

Jake Johnson: Yeah, I feel satisfied with how it ends. I really wanted, selfishly, after season 6, to come back and give the fans a proper finale. I thought season 6 ended nicely with Nick and Jess kissing, but I felt like everything was a little rushed. And I really appreciated that Fox gave us that opportunity. You see what Fox just did with The Mick and Last Man on Earth and Brooklyn Nine-Nine — you know, networks can be swift and make harsh decisions that they think are best for their business, so I really appreciated that they decided to give New Girl fans the final eight. They didn’t have to. And I think they really did it because we have such a loyal fanbase who care about this show, and I appreciate that. So the final eight [episodes] feel to me like a nice finale to the whole thing.

B+C: We interviewed Lamorne Morris a couple of months ago, and he said you cried a lot while filming the finale. Is that true?

JJ: No! [Laughs] Lamorne! Maybe he was crying in his trailer. No, he wasn’t crying. Honestly, at least for me, it didn’t feel like that sentiment. It wasn’t everyone sitting around crying. It felt more like a celebration. You know, we all feel very lucky that we were part of a show that did 148 episodes of television. Especially a single-camera show. And at the end of it, you realize, these are people I’ve seen so much during the last seven years, and we’re not going to be able to see each other. So, yes, it’s sad, but more it was just a lot of laughs and jokes and reminiscing.

B+C: What’s your favorite memory from the show?

JJ: There’s too many of them. But I think my overall favorite memory is just the cast — we had so many jokes together, and we had such a language that we all found to be really funny, that only existed when we were all together. It was like a family, like family jokes. And that cast had a lot of family jokes. Just being in those bits and laughing together is the thing that I definitely miss the most.

B+C: You said in another interview that you took all of Nick’s pants from set. Did you take any other souvenirs?

JJ: I did. In the flashback episode, Nick has braces when he’s in high school, and I stole those braces, so I have Nick’s high school braces. And just recently, I got Nick’s college wig. I don’t know what I’m going to do with this stuff, but I have braces and long hair and Nick’s jeans.

B+C: Do you have a favorite episode?

JJ: I really loved doing all the Nick and Jess story lines. My favorite with them was when they weren’t quite together but courting one another. I always felt like that had a fun energy. I loved doing the Nick and Schmidt stuff, I loved the flashbacks. I loved doing all the sincere Chicago stuff with Lamorne, with Winston. There was just a lot of great stuff.

B+C: You have a movie out this summer, Tag. What sold you on that project?

JJ: What drew me to that project was that it was based on a true story. There was a documentary that I had seen about the actual tag guys who did it, and I really liked that documentary, so I thought it’d be really fun to make something based on a true story. And you know, the cast is just spectacular. So that was really fun.

B+C: You’re also working on a new campaign with Natty Light, which just announced plans to donate $1 million for college debt relief, plus $1 for every retweet through May 27. How did you get involved with that?

JJ: They contacted me and told me what they were doing and how they were giving money away to college students to pay off student loans, and they asked me if I wanted to be involved and help spread the word on it. And I thought it was a really great thing to do to try to get young people out of debt, because debt is such a monster for people to deal with. It makes it so hard for them to take the next step of their professional life. So I thought this was an easy way to use my platform and get some people some money. … I like being a part of things that give back in some way.

B+C: What else is next for you?

JJ: Just taking time off, spending time with family and friends. Hopefully some good acting parts and writing parts come up, too. We’ll see what happens.

Yellowstone comes to a close on Sunday, December 15, but Beth and Rip's story is far from over. That's right, stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are coming back for a Yellowstone spinoff from creator Taylor Sheridan! Rather than a prequel like 1883 and 1923, this new series seems to be a continuation of the OG story we've loved since Yellowstone premiered in 2018.

Keep reading for everything we know about Kelly Reilly & Cole Hauser's new Yellowstone spinoff about Beth & Rip.

The 'Yellowstone' spinoff "shares the most DNA" with the original show.

Paramount

Okay so we don't have too much official info on the Yellowstone spinoff yet (come on y'all the show hasn't even ended!!) but Deadline reports that the series could feature other cast members from the original show. PLEASE let Kayce and Monica (Luke Grimes and Kelsey Asbille) make an appearance. I just cannot get enough of those two.

And, naturally, "the new offshoot shares the most DNA with the mothership of any shows in the Yellowstone universe to date, which explains why it will be the first spinoff to carry Yellowstone in the title," according to Deadline sources. 1883 and 1923 introduced us to new time periods and characters within the Dutton family, but continuing the same relationship arcs and family dynamics will make this Yellowstone spinoff feel more familiar than ever.

Kelly Reilly talks "beautiful" 'Yellowstone' season 5.

Kelly Reilly told Entertainment Weekly ahead of the season 5 premiere on November 10 that "Beth is more like a wild animal this season than ever. When I read the scripts, it made me think [that] she is, for the first time, maybe afraid she will lose it for [her dad]."

And I'm very interested to see how the series wraps up this season's plot line of keeping the ranch in the family — and how that will affect Beth and Rip's future. "It's dark, brutal and desperate stuff — gaining power, losing it, defending and fighting," she continues. "It's bloody and at times beautiful in how it breaks them into their core selves."

“I read the last episode the day before we started filming,” Luke Grimes told Entertainment Weekly. “I couldn't be happier. I think it's a perfect ending for the show for every character. It's just a testament to what a good writer Taylor is, and it's a very, very profound, beautiful ending. I can't wait to sit down and watch it one day.”

We don't know what the 'Yellowstone' spinoff is called yet...but it'll have 'Yellowstone' in the title.

Paramount and Taylor Sheridan haven't announced the title for the Yellowstone spinoff yet, but based on those Deadline sources, it'll have "Yellowstone" in the title. The series finale is called "Life Is A Promise," and Yellowstone: Promise would be very poetic, but it feels a little too flowery for the Duttons. The giant tree on the season 5 poster makes me think of Yellowstone: Roots. We'll just have to wait and see. No matter what the title is, here's hoping we get awesome cameos like Bella Hadid ;).

When you're in between episodes of your favorite January TV shows, then there's nothing better than watching new January movies. (Also, I can't believe it's almost a new year already!! Where did the time go?!). Whether you're a tried-and-true movie theater goer, or you love nothing more than a movie night from the comfort of your own couch, these rom-coms, action movies, and horror flicks coming in 2025 are exactly what you need to add to your New Year's Resolutions.

Here are all the new January movies you can watch in 2025.

1. Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl — On Netflix January 3, 2025

Netflix

Wallace and Gromit are back! Thank goodness, because there's no other way I would want to start a brand new year. This January movie sees Wallace's new "smart" gnome become way too smart — and a dangerous certain someone might be behind everything. Now Gromit has to battle the most sinister of forces to save the day.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl premieres January 3 and stars Ben Whitehead, Peter Kay, Lauren Patel, Reece Shearsmith, Diane Morgan, Adjoa Andoh, Muzz Khan, and Lenny Henry.

2. Better Man — In Theaters January 10, 2025

Paramount Pictures

This new movie is based on the true story of British popstar Robbie Williams. While examining his rise to fame and his time with boyband Take That, the movie also dives into the highs and lows of fame...all while presenting as a monkey. I'm going to be honest, this movie really confuses me. It's definitely a creative and unique concept, which I've been craving more of, but I'll have to see this movie before I can figure out how I feel!

Better Man premieres January 10 and stars Robbie Williams, Jonno Davies, Steve Pemberton, Damon Herriman, Raechelle Banno, Alison Steadman, Kate Mulvaney, Frazer Hadfield, Tom Budge, and Anthony Hayes.

3. The Last Showgirl — In Theaters January 10, 2025

Roadside Attractions

Pamela Anderson stars as Shelly, a showgirl who has to figure out what the rest of her life looks like when her show suddenly closes after 30 years. With an incredible cast, a award-worthy performance from Pamela, and music by Miley Cyrus, this is one January movie I literally can't stop thinking about.

The Last Showgirl premieres January 10 and stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Dave Bautista, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, and Billie Lourd.

4. Wolf Man — In Theaters January 17, 2025

Nicola Dove/Universal Pictures

Scary movie fans rejoice! Wolf Man is exactly the kind of movie that'll send shivers down your spine, unrelated to the winter weather. When Blake (Christopher Abbott), Charlotte (Julia Garner), and their daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth) come across a dangerous and mysterious animal, they barricade themselves inside a farmhouse to stay safe. Unfortunately, Blake begins a strange transformation of his own — and puts Charlotte and Ginger in a whole new kind of danger.

Wolf Man premieres January 17 and stars Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner and Sam Jaeger, Matilda Firth, Benedict Hardie, Ben Prendergast, Zac Chandler, Beatriz Romilly, and Milo Cawthorne.

5. Paddington in Peru — In Theaters January 17, 2025

Peter Mountain/StudioCanal/Sony Pictures

If you're already dreaming about a summer vacation, you're not alone — even Paddington Bear is headed somewhere warm! In Paddington in Peru, our favorite cuddly teddy is on a quest to find Aunt Lucy...and brings the whole family along for the ride.

Paddington in Peru premieres January 17 and stars Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Imelda Staunton, Carla Tous, Ben Whishaw, Olivia Colman, and Madeleine Harris.

6. One of Them Days — In Theaters January 24, 2025

Sony Pictures

Keke Palmer and SZA are reviving the BFF comedy in 2025 and I am MORE THAN READY. When Dreux and Alyssa learn Alyssa's BF has spent their rent money, they have to go on a totally unexpected adventure to keep themselves from getting evicted.

One of Them Days premieres January 24 and stars Keke Palmer, SZA, Maude Apatow, and Janelle James.

7. Flight Risk — In Theaters January 24, 2025

Lionsgate

In this new January movie, Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery stars as a U.S. Marshall who must bring a witness to court and deal with the fact the pilot's really a hitman. (I can't help but wonder what Lady Mary would do in this scenario).

Flight Risk premieres January 24 and stars Michelle Dockery, Mark Walberg, and Topher Grace.

8. Inheritance — In Theaters January 24, 2025

IFC Films

Maya's life turns upside down when she learns her father used to be a spy...and then finds herself in the middle of an international conspiracy. No big deal!! Now Maya must evade dangerous hunters and stay alive long enough to find the answers to her questions.

Inheritance premieres January 24 and stars Phoebe Dynevor and Rhys Ifans.

9. You're Cordially Invited — On Prime Video January 30, 2025

Prime Video

Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell are starting 2025 with a bang! This hilarious R-rated rom-com follows Reese's character as she plans her sister's destination wedding...then realizes the venue has double booked them with Will Ferrell, a father who's determined that his daughter's (Geraldine Viswanathan) wedding go perfectly. When I say chaos ensues, I'm talking alligator wrestling, a zebra knocking over the cake, and strippers.

You're Cordially Invited premieres January 30 and stars Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon, Geraldine Viswanathan, Meredith Hagner, Jimmy Tatro, Stony Blyden, Leanne Morgan, Rory Scovel, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Ramona Young, Jack McBrayer, and Celia Weston.

10. Valiant One — In Theaters January 31, 2025

Briarcliff Entertainment

When a captain and his unit get trapped behind enemy lines — and their equipment goes out — they have to band together and figure out how to get to safety. This January movie has some familiar faces like Chase Stokes and Lana Condor, and it'll keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Valiant One premieres January 31 and stars Chase Stokes, Lana Condor, Desmin Borges, Callan Mulvey, Jonathan Whitesell, and Daniel Jun.

11. Mickey 17 — In Theaters January 31, 2025

Warner Bros. Pictures

Mickey Barnes goes on countless life-ending missions after he signs up to be an Expendable. On his quest to colonize the ice world of Niflheim, he's cloned countless times — but, shockingly, nothing really goes wrong until two Mickeys wind up surviving at the same time.

Mickey 17 premieres January 31 and stars Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.

Stanley 1913, the creator of the famed Stanley tumblers you know and love, just recalled millions of cups due to multiple reports of… burn injuries?!

Here’s what to know about the current Stanley cup recall.

Consumer Product Safety Commission

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC), the Stanley recall covers all Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs. These travel mugs pose a “burn hazard” to sippers who have them since the mugs’ lid threads can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use.

Stanley 1913

Stanley received 91 reports from consumers facing this issue, with 38 burn injuries worldwide. A total of 11 consumers required medical attention from the flaw. The CSPC estimates that about 2.6 million mugs are part of the massive recall.

These are the exact recalled products:

  • Switchback 12-ounce mug, product identification number 20-01437
  • Switchback 16-ounce mug, product identification numbers 20-01436, 20-02211
  • Trigger Action 12-ounce mug, product identification numbers 20-02033, 20-02779, 20-02825
  • Trigger Action 16-ounce mug, product identification numbers 20-02030, 20-02745, 20-02957
  • Trigger Action 20-ounce mug, product identification numbers 20-02034, 20-02746

“We ask that all customers in possession of either product immediately stop use and reach out to Stanley 1913 for a free replacement lid,” a recent Instagram post from Stanley 1913 reads. “At Stanley 1913, we are committed to constant improvement and are focused on creating quality products that are built for life.”

Stanley 1913

If you believe you own any of the recalled products, you can visit www.stanley1913tmrecall.expertinquiry.com/ for a free replacement lid by verifying your mug’s product identification number and place of purchase.
