Do you feel like you’re stepping into a time capsule or experiencing a wave of déjà vu lately? It’s no coincidence. As we embrace fall for 2024, fashion and beauty echo the bold yet relaxed vibes of the '90s — a decade profoundly influenced by Saturn in Pisces from 1993 to 1995. This resurgence is more than just a revival of retro aesthetics; it’s a nod to the celestial energies that shaped that era.

Whenever Saturn, the planet of structure and discipline, meets the romantic sign of Pisces, magic is bound to happen. Saturn’s time in Pisces encourages introspection and creativity, stirring a cultural shift now that's currently resurfacing in our beauty and style choices — hairdos included. This planetary influence seems to have set the stage for a revival of '90s trends, blending that era's grunge and romantic elements with a contemporary twist.

Looking around, you’ll notice a nostalgic flair in the current hairstyles, which combine the gritty allure of '90s grunge with an updated, romantic sensibility. Women are channeling the spirit of the era through their choice of fashion and hair, from power suits to oversized knit sweater dresses to the iconic "Rachel Haircut."

As a former hairstylist turned astrologer and beauty expert, I’m here to guide you through this nostalgic transformation by blending beauty advice with cosmic magic. Let’s illuminate your inner and outer beauty with a sprinkle of astrological insight! With that in mind, here's what you can expect for fall hair trends in 2024.

This season, the French Bob — popularized by celebrities like Winona Ryder in the ‘90s — makes a stylish return with a chic, sophisticated edge. The Lob, a favorite of Julia Roberts, continues to bridge classic and contemporary with its timeless appeal. Salma Hayek’s daring Pixie cut and baby bangs from this era are also back, bringing a bold, youthful vibe. The Shag, reminiscent of the rock-and-roll spirit seen in the '90s, and “The Rachel Haircut,” which initially debuted during Saturn’s transit in 1995, are making notable comebacks. Let’s dive deep and look at the haircuts making their mark this fall.

French Bob

Channeling the chic and playful vibes of the '90s with a sophisticated edge. Wearing this flirty cut with your favorite barrette (butterfly clip) can go a long way from work to events.

Lob

The long bob (AKA Lob) remains a timeless favorite, bridging the gap between classic and contemporary. This low-maintenance cut is perfect for busy moms or those who want to give bobs a chance without commitment.

Micro Fringe

Bringing a bold, youthful touch reminiscent of the era’s daring looks. These bangs are risqué, yet you can wear them proudly with the right attitude and pomade.

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

The Shag (AKA The Wolf Cut)

Embracing the layered, textured appeal of the 90s with a blend of rock-and-roll and romance. This haircut is ideal for those with natural waves that need a boost. Use a diffuser and leave-in product for the best results.

The Rachel Revival Haircut

I’m calling this “The Rachel Revival Haircut.” It's a mature take on the iconic Rachel, adding a polished twist to a classic favorite. The trendsetter Aquarius, Jennifer Aniston, reawakened this timeless haircut earlier in 2024, and it's definitely making an official comeback this fall! Fun fact: this original haircut was debuted by Aniston when Saturn was in Pisces on Friends in April 1995.

Long Layered Haircut

This haircut balances nostalgia with modern elegance, offering a versatile and timeless choice. Long hair has been an American girl’s staple, but tresses must be healthy and well-maintained. Schedule routine haircuts with your stylist to ensure health and longevity for your locks. Also, invest in a hair treatment mask and use it every other week.

Fall 2024 Hairstyles

The hairstyles for fall 2024 are a vibrant nod to the '90s, as well, channeling the duality of grunge and romance, reflecting iconic trends sported by celebrities of the time. Drew Barrymore embodied the carefree spirit of textured waves, while Pamela Anderson brought Hollywood glamour to the forefront with her voluminous updos. Kate Moss personified the bedhead grunge look with effortless style. These timeless hairstyles are set to make a striking comeback this fall, blending '90s nostalgia with modern flair.

Textured Waves

Loose, tousled waves that evoke the carefree spirit of the 90s grunge scene. The secret to working an effortless look is to use a salt spray.

Sleek Half-Updo (With Gel)

This polished yet relaxed style is a major throwback to the glossy finishes popular in the ‘90s. Use a paddle brush to achieve a sleek look and manage flyways.

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images

The Pamela Updo

Voluminous and glamorous, reminiscent of the 90s Hollywood glamour that combines practicality with retro chic. From the office to a fall gala, this hairstyle will turn heads.

Sleek Single Braid

This minimalist and refined style echoes the decade’s sleek and structured trends. Apply a hair serum to dry hair to give it a glossy finish.

Bedhead Grunge

To achieve this look, embrace the effortlessly undone aesthetic that defined '90s grunge. Use a pliable leave-in product and apply it to towel-dried hair. Twist random locks and allow them to air dry.

Fall 2024 Brunette Trends

Netflix

Fall 2024’s color palette embraces deep, rich browns, echoing the earthy tones popular during the early '90s under Saturn in Pisces. This revival mirrors the iconic brunette looks of that era, including Winona Ryder’s natural elegance in Reality Bites, Julia Roberts’ striking deep brown in The Pelican Brief, and Salma Hayek’s dramatic espresso in Desperado. These shades — rich brown with baby lights and bold espresso — capture the sophisticated essence of fall 2024’s color trend. Let’s explore the range of brunettes that can capture your essence this season — and don’t forget to use a color-safe shampoo and conditioner to preserve your new color!

Rich Brown with Babylights

A look that holds onto the memories of summer while transitioning into autumn. It is a warm and multi-dimensional color that includes highlights for dimension.

Truffle Brown

This look will channel Emily in Paris vibes. It's a classic, tasteful, and yet low-maintenance color that will keep you on your A-game this fall.

Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images

Chestnut

A classic, warm brown with a natural shine. This is the perfect color for those who like to rock a shade that emanates intoxicating shades of red, gold, and copper.

Espresso Brown

This is your go-to shade for an alluring yet endearing tone. It is deep and dramatic, offering a bold contrast.

Ebony

An ultra-dark hue that brings a sense of mystery and depth.

Saturn’s influence brings a wave of introspection and transformation, so it’s no wonder the 90s are making a stylish comeback. This fall, let’s embrace the past with a renewed sense of style, celebrating the nostalgia and sophistication of the season’s trends!

Dough:

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten

Filling:

  • 2 cups of unsweetened pure pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 1/4 cups half-and-half
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
Instructions:
  1. For the dough, mix together flour, sugar and salt evenly in a bowl
  2. Lightly beat in butter and egg
  3. Cover the dough in plastic and let chill in refrigerator for 2 hours
  4. Once chilled, sprinkle flour on a flat surface and roll out dough, then roll dough onto pie pan. Leave about half an inch extra around the edge and fold underneath the edge of the crust.
  5. Pinch edges of pie with your fingers, then freeze the shell for 30 minutes.
  6. Add parchment paper over the pie shell and fill with pie weights (this can be dried beans or even sugar)
  7. To prep the dough for the filling, bake on a baking sheet for 30 minutes on 375 degrees, or until pie shell is golden brown
  8. Take the crust out of the oven and remove the weights, then let the crust cool.
  9. Set oven temp to 350 degrees
  10. For the filling, mix the pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, half-and-half, light brown sugar and spices and eggs into a bowl. Whisk until smooth.

Black women's hairstyles are some of the most diverse I've seen — we're known for wearing our natural hair one week only to show up to work with braids the next. As one of my former hairstylists told me as a pre-teen, "You have to keep them guessing!" And while it's always fun to switch it up, it also a great way to experiment and find a summer look that feels effortless. With that in mind, here are six Black hairstyles that I think we'll see a lot of this year, regardless of hair texture. Here's to finding your own next look, ladies!

Image via Theo Wargo/Getty Images

Goddess Knotless Braids

Braided hairstyles are by far one of the go-to styles for summer. They help keep hair protected from the heat and other elements that may cause dryness or frizz while creating a cute style that lasts anywhere from 4-6 weeks.

While knotless braids have become a lot more popular, more people are opting to wear 'Goddess' knotless braids which includes an unfinished look or an addition of wavy or curly human hair extensions in between the braids. It's the perfect style for a summer vacation that includes a ton of beach or water park days.

Short and Sweet Bob

Admit it — you've lowkey always envied Edna's luscious bob in The Incredibles. It makes sense because she is a succinct fashion designer that knows how to create looks. Even if your inspiration isn't Edna, chin-length bobs scream sophistication and can make any casual outfit look like a 90s off-duty model look.

Classic Updo

Women can't get enough of classic updos, and I don't blame them. I have very fond memories of seeing older Black women wear them to special events so I have a soft spot for them.

If you're trying to figure out what what kind of updo you want to wear, take a cue from Keke Palmer! Her sleek updo manages to look soft as well as voluminous and it also frames her face.

Image via Theo Wargo/Getty Images

Cute Pixie Haircut

Short haircuts are here to stay, especially when we know it's going to be hot during summer! Since I've cut my hair on three separate occasions, I know a few tricks that make sure my hair was razor sharp and shiny every time I stepped out. One of them is making sure I used a moisturizing shampoo and conditionerduring each wash day. This help me set the tone for styling.

Next, I recommend using a heat protectant spray that won't dry your hair out if you plan to use a blow dryer and curling iron. If you plan to let your hair air dry, you could also mold and set your hair using a good foaming mousse!

No matter how you choose to wear your pixie haircut, it's sure to look glorious when you properly prep your hair.

Image via Rob Kim/Getty Images

Middle Part Sew-In

It wouldn't be right if I didn't refer to this look the way the TikTok and Instagram girlies do. Known as one of the most popular Black women's hairstyles, this is actually referred to as a 'bussdown' middle part — and it looks fabulous on Ciara. Truthfully, anyone can wear this style because it's universal (love it) and isn't specific to one group of women. I mean, even Law Roach has been know to wear a good bussdown middle part, and we love him even more for it!

Image via Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

Curls Out

Not everyone will reach for braids, short hairstyles, or extensions though. Some women will be rocking their natural curls, allowing them to be on full display this summer. If you plan to be one of them, make sure you try Beyonce's Cécredline to give your curls the volume and shine they deserve!

Black women's hairstyles should be fun and look carefree during summer even if the process of achieving certain looks takes a while!

The recent trend toward warmer hues like burgundy, terra cotta, olive, and brown, has had me rethinking my blue-leaning home. I've been sprinkling in things like pale pink pillowcases, a burgundy throw blanket, and olive green rug, and loving my warmer aesthetic. But then Amanda Leigh and Taylor Hahn, of celeb-loved design firm House of Rolison, stopped me in my redecorating tracks with their latest bathroom renovation.

Take a look at this stunning blue bathroom renovation that I can't get enough of — plus tips on how to transform your own space!

Nils Timm

In the middle of an earthy 1940s Spanish Colonial home, this stunning cobalt blue bath alcove feels like a refreshing, bold and unexpected moment of calm. And I'm obsessed.

"Historically, Spanish-style homes did incorporate deep blues and greens and we wanted to honor that as well as just a fun play on words given the iconic street name, Bluebird Ave," says Amanda. I love that homage. Once a closet, the bath's arch opening creates a tucked-in feeling around the tub with Zia Tile in Night Blue as the dramatic facade.

Nils Timm

"We made sure to wrap the home in windows, which brought the landscaping into the color palette giving us the opportunity to mix greens, blues, reds and dusty olives into the design," says Taylor.

The pair took a fresh take on Spanish design while keeping the home's soul intact. A deep low-profile sofa sets the tone for its elevated yet warm and casual vibe. "We appreciate structural and architectural integrity while allowing every room to tell a story," says Amanda.

Nils Timm

Each room feels like a chapter in a book, woven together with earthy tones, Spanish Colonial charm, and sleek contemporary design. “We love to play around with various monochromatic palettes," adds Amanda. "Generally people stray from cold colors and right now burgundy and reds are trending, which fall very heavily on the warm scale. We found a way to compliment both."

Nils Timm

The design duo, who are also engaged!, used Viola marble throughout the home to add unique texture, a bold statement, and an organic feel.

Nils Timm

The rich hues create an old-world feel throughout, including in the master bedroom's lounge area. Black-framed windows and elements with darker tones pair perfectly with warm woods and the dramatic stone featured in the kitchen and bath.

Nils Timm

The result is a soothing palette designed for sleep, rest, and relaxation. The fireplace adds a cozy touch, while the room's connection to the outdoors creates a harmonious vibe.

Nils Timm

The rustic and moody dining room is the perfect counterbalance to the sunny outdoors of the Hollywood Hills home. I’m in love with the cozy intimacy of a round dining table, which draws everyone together vs. apart at the center.

Nils Timm

This deep red-hued bedroom hints to the home's Spanish influence while still feeling fresh and contemporary.

Nils Timm

House of Rolison's best bathroom renovation advice?

"Don’t be afraid to get a little weird! Have fun with it. We always say “cool or too weird?” Which is really an homage to how we look at them," says Taylor.

Amanda adds: "To us, a bathroom is like a pop of color or texture to a bedroom. It’s like the jewelry of the space. Use paint, wall texture, paneling, Roman clay, wainscoting et cetera to give the walls some movement. Pick stones that you like for no other reason than because you like them. You may have to trial and error complimenting colors, but it’ll come together. Bathrooms are an easy place to get creative and take risks."

Nils Timm

Each bedroom does feel like a reflection of the bathrooms, telling its own story but feeling cohesive to the space. I love this pop of reddish-brown in a sphere pillow paired with the striped bolster in an otherwise neutral space.

Nils Timm

The era of all-white homes is clearly fading. Drenching walls in rich color while balancing them with lighter tones creates a look that feels warm and welcoming rather than stark and cold.

Nils Timm

Thoughtful details, expressed by collaborator Olive Ateliers, like a three-light floor lamp in the reading nook, vintage artwork, and stone pots add character and charm to create an inviting guest room.

Nils Timm

The bar area in its own intimate nook complements the kitchen with the same bold marble and similar chain pendant.

Nils Timm

I spy a pop of blue tile near the pool in the backyard too!

Nils Timm

The dramatic entryway arch sets the stage for the style and character of the home's stunning interior. Thanks Amanda and Taylor for sharing this beautiful space, and congratulations!

Following in the footsteps of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid, there's a new live Disney movie in the works: a live-action Snow White! The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actress Rachel Zegler stars as Snow White in the new iteration, and this weekend, we got the first official look at the film!

Snow White has faced plenty of controversy this year, from the actors' comments to the costumes to the rest of the cast, but I'm actually excited for it. I'll see any story that places women at the forefront!!

Here's everything you need to know about the new live action Snow White, coming in 2025.

Is there a Snow White trailer?

@biran337 rachels voice😭🤍! #rachel#rachelzegler#snow#SnowWhite#billie#BillieEilish#barbie#GretaGerwig#halle#HalleBailey#disney#Disney100#littlemermaid#thelittlemermaid#MickeyMouse#apple#poisonapple#poison#somedaymyprincewillcome#partofyourworld#chloe#chloebailey#zendaya#thehungergames#music#musicvideos#sing#singing#coquette#dwarfs#sevendwarfs#snowwhiteandthesevendwarfs#snowwhiteliveaction#digital#30s#40s#50s#60s#70s#80s#90s#00s#2010s#2020s#megan#megantheestallion#style#ootd#outfits#makeup#wish#disneyprincess#princess#prince#beyonce#hungergames#beautyandthebeast#belle#achangeinme♬ original sound - mina

Well, yes...but also no. Someone leaked the brand new Snow White trailer to TikTok and I can't stop watching. Rachel Zegler's vocals, Gal Gadot's mystery, and the handsome Jonathan. Because, FYI, Rachel clarified that the movie will feature romance, telling Variety that "I would never want to box someone in and say, ‘If you want love, then you can’t work.’ Or ‘If you want to work, then you can’t have a family.’ It’s not true. It’s never been true."

"The love story is very integral," she continues. "A lot of people wrote that we weren’t doing [the romance] anymore — we were always doing that; it just wasn’t what we were talking about on that day."

What else has Rachel said about the movie?

Rodin Eckenroth/Getty Images for Disney

Like the live-action Disney movies before it, the new Snow White teaser trailer shows off a variety of shots you know and love from the original 1937 movie. But there's also a hint of modern edge that I'm excited to see in the final film. While the cartoon Snow White is pure sweetness, Rachel Zegler adds a touch of sass, spunk, and determination. I have no doubt she'll be able to bring the iconic princess into the modern age without sacrificing the goodness we love in the original character!

But as much as I love seeing Rachel Zegler in this starring role, I was not expecting the entire movie to look so CGI. The live-action Cinderella was successful aesthetically because it used so many practical elements, but so far, the Snow White visuals — from the animals to the dwarves to the cottage — seem a little hazy.

However some people are taking their critiques wayyyy too far and sending Zegler literal death threats. "fun fact i will be dying eight times a week on broadway this fall!!!!!" she says in response to a now-deleted tweet. "get your tickets, lee! also @fbi." You can see Zegler star in Romeo + Juliet opposite Kit Connor.

When is the live-action Snow White coming out?

Disney

Snow White Release Date

Snow White hits theaters on March 21, 2025! Check out the rest of the Most-Anticipated 2025 Movies you can watch next year. The lineup is already amazing.

What is the new Snow White movie about?

Disney

Snow White Plot

It looks like Snow White will focus more on the princess becoming a leader than it will on her romance. And Rachel Zegler went viral for her comments on how the film would change the original story. "We absolutely wrote a Snow White [that's] not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love," Rachel says in a clip from D23 in 2022. "She’s going to be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true.”

Many internet users didn't like how Rachel phrased her problem with the original story, claiming that telling women they have to choose between falling in love and leadership is inherently anti-feminist. "No but she could fall in love AND be a leader at the same time," one TikTok user commented.

However, the extreme backlash to Rachel's comments was put in a new light after Priscilla star Jacob Elordi (who plays Elvis Presley) joked he didn't know much about Elvis except what he learned on Lilo & Stitch.

"Okay but when Rachel Zegler says she wasn’t a fan of the original Snow White (a cartoon btw), and only revisited it for her role as Snow White, she’s 'entitled' and a brat," one user wrote on X. "This just confirms Rachel Zegler hate is literally just misogyny." Say it louder for the people in the back!

Who else is in the cast of Snow White?

Disney

Snow White Cast

Gal Gadot will star as the Evil Queen opposite Rachel Zegler's Snow White. We'll also see Andrew Burnap as Jonathan (in place of the original film's Prince) and Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman.

Will Snow White be a musical?

Disney

Yes, Snow White is going to be a musical, just like the original film! In addition to original songs like "Whistle While You Work," La La Land and The Greatest Showman writers Pasek and Paul (who also added a couple of new songs to the 2019 Aladdin) wrote some new tunes for the film.

How many dwarves does Snow White have?

Disney

In the original film, Snow White meets seven dwarves: Doc, Bashful, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey, Happy, and Sleepy. After actor Peter Dinklage expressed his anger over the new story ("You're still making that f—king backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f—k are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soap box? I guess I'm not loud enough," he said in an episode of Marc Maron's WTF podcast), Disney released a statement to Good Morning America saying they were changing the original story.

"To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community," a Disney spokesperson said. "We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period."

However, the movie's first look clearly shows Rachel Zegler's Snow White surrounded by seven dwarfs, and honestly, we're even more confused than we were before about how Disney has updated the story, if at all.

What is the original dark story of Snow White?

Disney

In the original Grimm's Fairytales Snow White, the princess avoids even more brushes with death than she does in the Disney version. In addition to the poison apple, the queen also tries to suffocate her with too-tight bodice laces, as well as a poison comb through her hair.
