It's no secret that when it comes to the career marketplace, it's a job seeker's dream right now. Unemployment rates are low, and the Great Resignation has had employers stepping up salaries and benefits alike. Our friends over at Fairygodboss are the best professionals to speak to this, and a professional recruiter from their team let us know that there are new job rules for 2022. Here's what they say about job hunting this year, and the way you should think. about your next career move.

In this ultra-competitive job market, employees are more in-demand than in recent years, and any successful company will be investing heavily in hiring. As a senior recruiter working in tech for almost 10 years, I can attest to the fact that candidates often come into an interview process with several offers on the table — and that they’re shopping around and asking for what they want, now more than ever. If they can, why can’t you? Here are my new job search rules for 2022.

1. We're done settling in our job searches.

In this job market, you have options. This is the time to evaluate different criteria and reprioritize how you choose your work, based on your life and your values. Is salary the most important thing to you? That’s ok. Is it feeling like you can be yourself at work? That’s great. What about having the flexibility to work during your hours of choice? That’s cool too. Write your top three most important things down and stick them up near your computer somewhere. In 2022, we’re done settling for jobs that tick only one or two out of three boxes. We want a job that checks them all.

2. "Job shopping" is the new job searching.

Now that we’re done settling, our job search strategy becomes one of job shopping, as candidates begin holding employers to a higher standard. This goes for things like salary and benefits, of course, but also for important factors like your relationship with your future manager, the company’s culture, investment in real (not performative) D&I initiatives, and the amount of flexibility and trust that is felt within the organization. Even factors like how excited you are about the company and the product are all fair game.

Shop around and don’t let any company rush you. You’re shopping for a place where you’ll devote a large part of your time, after all. Line up around five to seven “tough” questions you ask every employer, around things like work-life balance, mental health support, or whatever is important to you. Comparing answers is key, as it shows you where one company may be strong, or where another may be lacking.

3. Come in with strong salary data.

Salary transparency is slowly happening. In May, New York ismandating salary transparency on all job descriptions. But beyond waiting for legislation to change our job search practices, I urge all career coaching clients of mine to ask for help when they navigate one of the toughest parts of their job search: the salary negotiation. Find about 7-10 good data points of salary for your level, industry, desired job title and location. Asking people currently in the role or by asking people who are interviewing you.

Don’t go in blind, and know that you never need to disclose what you’re currently making in a role. Stick to discussing your expectations with these companies, along with what type of compensation you prioritize the most (base salary, bonus, stock, etc.). Is the salary too low on their end, and is it a top three criteria for you? See the first rule.

In 2022, people are valuing their skills more than ever. More people seem to be investing in their own career development, both within and outside of the traditional corporate structure. 2022 is all about having career options, evaluating companies more strictly, and increased pay transparency. Data is your friend, shop far and wide, and shop specifically to find a place (or a few) that will serve you best in this next chapter of your career.

Advancements in technology and shifting consumer behavior are constantly shaping the job market and causing it to evolve. So, some careers that have stood the test of time are becoming obsolete and facing numbered days.

1. Warehouse Workers

Warehouse jobs, particularly those in large distribution centers for companies like Amazon, are at high risk of being replaced by automation. With the development of AI and advanced robots, companies are looking to automate tasks like order fulfillment, inventory management, and packaging.

Automation offers the advantage of 24/7 operation without the need for breaks or sleep, making it more efficient than human labor. Leaders like Elon Musk have acknowledged that making a full switch will be challenging. Nonetheless, the shift toward technology-driven warehouses is undeniable, and many traditional jobs will likely be transformed or phased out.

2. Librarians

Being a librarian was once viewed as a vital and secure profession. Now, digital tech has changed the way we access information, and with the rise of e-books, audiobooks, and online databases, fewer people are relying on physical libraries for their reading and research needs.

Plus, as books become more affordable and accessible, the traditional library model, which is centered around physical book rentals, is becoming less relevant. So, even though it's unlikely that libraries are going to disappear entirely, the role of librarians may shift toward digital management and online services.

3. Ride-Share Drivers

Drivers for taxi companies, as well as ride-share apps like Uber and Lyft, are facing an uncertain future as autonomous vehicles become more advanced. Self-driving cars, which are powered by artificial intelligence, are set to revolutionize the transportation industry and possibly eliminate the need for human drivers.

These vehicles will use apps to identify riders, calculate fares, and complete payments, all without any human intervention. This means the role of the traditional ride-share driver may no longer be necessary.

4. Customer Service Reps

AI and chatbots are increasingly replacing customer service representatives, too, as they're capable of handling a wide range of inquiries and issues. These AI-driven systems may offer faster and more efficient solutions and, in turn, eliminate long wait times for customers trying to speak to a human representative.

This, coupled with the fact that chatbots can operate 24/7, will help companies streamline their operations and cut costs. That's why many customer service roles are already being phased out.

5. Legal Secretaries

Even legal secretaries are facing threats due to AI-powered tools, which can handle tasks like legal research, document drafting, and contract management. These technologies are automating a lot of the routine work that once required humans and reducing the demand for legal secretaries in law firms.

Now, this role probably won't be completely replaced by AI. Even so, the automation of basic functions could still lead to lower overall staffing needs, particularly for paralegals and junior legal assistants.

6. Cashiers

Walk into your local supermarket, and you'll see that technology has already begun to take over traditional checkout processes. With the rise of self-checkout kiosks, mobile payment options like Apple Pay, and even cryptocurrency transactions, the need for human cashiers is steadily decreasing.

Retailers like Amazon have already introduced cashier-free convenience stores, and other companies may follow in their footsteps.

7. Referees

Not even sports fields seem to be safe from the rise of AI. In fact, referees are increasingly being sidelined as technology takes a more prominent role in officiating sports.

Systems like goal-line technology and Video Assistant Referee (VAR) have already proven that AI can make more accurate and unbiased calls than humans. Another appeal of automated officiating lies in its ability to reduce controversial decisions that spark arguments among players, coaches, and fans.

8. Translators

As AI-powered translation tools become more sophisticated, translators are facing stiff competition, too. These systems, which were once limited to basic word-for-word translation, are getting better at understanding context, tone, and nuance.

The improvement of machine learning will also allow for vast amounts of text across various languages to be processed simultaneously, increasing its accuracy. So, the demand for traditional translation services is expected to decline in the wake of faster and cheaper AI solutions.

9. Computer Programmers

AI-driven coding tools are advancing as well. Automated programming assistants and open-source AI libraries are streamlining many routine coding tasks, like debugging, code generation, and even basic software development.

Skilled developers will likely still be needed for complex problem-solving and other, more creative software design projects. But, developers whose roles focus on repetitive tasks may see reduced demand.

10. Dispatchers

Finally, human dispatchers may gradually be replaced by AI systems that can manage logistics, emergency responses, and customer inquiries. Things like advanced GPS tracking, automated scheduling, and real-time data processing allow AI to handle dispatch tasks with little human help.

Some cities have already implemented AI for non-emergency calls, slashing the need for human operators on the other end of the phone.

Half of them are cult classics that have earned Parker Posey the title of a "90s indie queen," according to her The White Lotus co-star Michelle Monaghan(via E! News) and we agree. But she's also appeared in 2000s films we love watching too!

Whether it's been a supporting or starring role, Parker's found a way to steal the show with her memorable quips as well as unforgettable facial expressions.

1. Dazed and Confused (1993)

P.S. It features the outdated and harmful practice of "hazing" so viewer discretion is advised.

Before there was Not Another Teen Movie, the '90s gave us Dazed and Confused. For several reasons, it's one of those indie cult classics that some of the biggest celebrities have appeared in. From Matthew McConaughey to Renée Zellwegger, viewers watched them portray high schoolers navigating the day before summer break.

Parker's role was a senior named Darla who was a part of a group who eagerly humiliated freshmen girls. Though she didn't have a huge breakout role, the familiar facial expressions we mentioned earlier were on full display.

2. Drunk Girls (1995)

Drunks is a little darker in nature than Dazed and Confused, but still maintains the indie spirit Parker's known for. It follows those who struggle with alcoholism and other addictions as they seek therapy for their issues. Between the main character's attempts at getting better and the other attendees' journeys, viewers are subject to the uneasy trajectory addicts face.

Parker's character was Debbie, a girl who loved partying but decided it wasn't worth drunk all the time. However, her new obsession happened to be football.

3. Party Girls (1995)

That same year, Parker Posey appeared in Party Girl where she took on the role of partier Mary and her obsession with having as much fun as she could. When her habit lands her in trouble, she's indebted to her godmother and starts working at a library. Though things start going well, a lewd act causes her to lose her job and forces her to part ways with beloved vintage pieces.

Over time, Mary learns to grow up and find her true purpose in life while also realizing she can have fun doing things that don't get her in trouble.

4. The Daytrippers (1997)

The Daytrippers is another funny indie movie that takes viewers on a wild goose chase that ends with a shocking discovery. When one woman (Hope Davis) is convinced her husband's cheating on her, she and her family decide to take a trip to NYC to find out what's going on. Hilariously, Parker Posey plays the woman's sister who thinks it's a great idea to bring her boyfriend (Liev Schreiber) along for the adventure.

In a series of side-splitting moments, viewers watch as their family tries to solve the great mystery of who's at the center of the cheating scandal only to wish they didn't know towards the end of the movie.

5. The House of Yes (1997)

P.S. The topic of incest is broached in this movie.

Parker Posey takes on the role of a woman named "Jackie-O" who won't let go of JFK's assassination in The House of Yes. When her twin brother Marty Pascal reveals news of his engagement, Jackie-O does everything she can to cause friction between him and his new fiancée. Over time, it's revealed the twins had an uncharacteristically close relationship which explains Jackie-O's jealousy. However, things get even weirder when it seems like people are aware of Marty and Jackie-O's "relationship," which causes chaos and confusion.

By the end of the film, viewers are left shocked when Marty dies and it seems like Jackie-O's "plan" succeeded.

6. You've Got Mail (1998)

Next to Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail will always be one of our favorite love stories. However, Tom Hanks' Joe Fox doesn't remain in love with Parker Posey's Patricia Eden. As we all know and love, he instead falls for Meg Ryan's Kathleen Kelly after exchanging a series of AOL chat messages. However, they're unaware they're in charge of competing bookstores.

When their online messages lead to a mutual meetup and Joe realizes who Kathleen is, he almost decides it's not worth
"introducing" himself to her. But love is hard to ignore and the two eventually find themselves right where they're supposed to be by the end of the movie.

Scream 3 (2000)

When Parker Posey's Jennifer Jolie is posed to play Gail Weathers (Courtney Cox) in a new Stab 3 movie, the set is shut down when a new series of murders begins. Ironically, Jennifer and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) are in a relationship which bothers Gail. However, they have to set their petty rivalries aside as they work together with the remaining cast to figure out when the killer will strike next.

Sadly, the killer discovers where a secluded Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) resides which forces her to help the cast as well. By the end of the film, it's revealed that killer's always know who Sidney is and was responsible for everything that's happened to her as well as everyone around her or the people involved in the Stab franchise.

And while we would've loved if Parker's Jennifer survived, she meets a terrible end towards the end of Scream 3.

8. Josie and the Pussycats (2001)

Did you really grow up during the '90s if you didn't know who Josie and the Pussycats were? All jokes aside, this girl group felt similar to our reverence of The Spice Girls, but in kid-friendly form.

The movie follows The Pussycats (Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, and Rosario Dawson) as they try to secure a name for themselves in the music industry. They're discovered by MegaRecords executive Wyatt Frame (Alan Cumming) and sign the biggest deal of their lives.

They immediately begin feeling uncomfortable and it's all for good reason because MegaRecords' CEO Fiona (Parker Posey) is working the the government to essentially brainwash young teens who listen to music. There's also the obvious message that any musicians who discover what they're doing meet a terrible end so the company is able to continue its nefarious plot.

Towards the end of the movie, the brainwashing seems to come to an end and the beloved group is able to maintain their popularity without the aid of terrible messaging that could harm teens.

9. Blade: Trinity (2004)

Parker Posey as Danica Talos in Blade: Trinity was one of favorite characters we loved to hate! She really put the "super" in supervillain because she was condescending and ruthless in her quest to help ruin Blade. However, what sealed it for us was when she and her team allowed for the death of the Nightstalkers' (Jessica Biel and Ryan Reynolds) trusted scientist Sommerfield.

Danica eventually meets a dramatic end where her corpse fades into ash and it feels like a delicious end to such a terrible character (we still love you Parker!).

10. Mascots (2016)

Only Parkey Posey could pull off a character named Cindi Babineaux in Mascots who was among other actors portraying the lives of mascots getting ready to attend the World Mascot Association Championships. Taking it very seriously, viewers are given a BTS look at what it takes to prep for something "prestigious" as this and it's quirky as you think.

For starters, Cindi Babineaux's mascot is an armadillo whose moves are quite elaborate given her dancer's background. Secondly, the competition features outlandish routines that somehow make you root for the mascot you'll come to appreciate the most.

There's arguably nothing worse than dealing with a passive-aggressive boss. Rather than laying their grievances out on the line, they use indirect communication that leaves you feeling confused, frustrated, and unsure of how to respond without escalating the situation.

One of the biggest issues with passive aggression is that it makes someone's issue with you indirectly apparent. Yet, it can be tough to know exactly how to fix their problem moving forward, given they're beating around the bush.

Let's say your boss makes a snarky remark about a PTO request or acts unsatisfied with a project you completed. Don't hesitate to ask, "So, what next steps should we take to ensure this doesn't happen again?"

A smart way to respond is by saying, "I'm here to learn and grow." It makes your intentions crystal clear, reminds your boss that you're only human, and could open up conversations about avenues for improvement.
