Jonathan Van Ness’ ‘Getting Curious’ Podcast Is a Lesson in the Importance of Always Learning

When Queer Eye first premiered on Netflix in early 2018, the world fell madly in love with Jonathan Van Ness — and for good reason. The grooming expert’s larger-than-life personality made for immediately quotable quips, and it soon became obvious that beneath all that sass was a genuinely thoughtful and kind person, with a deep interest in and care for people.

Since 2015, Van Ness has also been showcasing his hammy-yet-insightful personality on his podcast, Getting Curious With Jonathan Van Ness. Not surprisingly, the podcast, an interview show that features Van Ness speaking with an expert on a topic about which he is curious, has increased its audience significantly since the success of Netflix’s reality show reboot. But Van Ness has been unapologetically himself since the very beginning.

If you’re a new listener to the show, it might be the interviews with Van Ness’ fellow Queer Eye cast members that initially draw you in. And then maybe you notice other intriguing episode titles, such as “Is Saudi Arabia Cute Now?”; “What Is Gender Identity?”; “What Do White People Need to Know About Racism?”; and “What is Toxic Stress & Why Is She So Bad?”

The conversations, while serious, are buoyed by Van Ness’ casual and affectionate demeanor. He often calls his guests “henny,” and he isn’t afraid to ask what’s on his mind. Like on the show, Van Ness speaks his piece and creates an inviting and non-judgmental space for others to do the same.

As a result, his conversations with his guests are both sweet and surprisingly informative. In that way, the podcast is an example of what can happen when we let go of the self-consciousness and ego that can sometimes hold us back from connecting with people. It’s also a reminder about how important it is to keep our minds open to other perspectives and to continue to learn about the world around us.

Those messages are at the heart of Queer Eye, too. On both the Netflix show and his podcast, Van Ness exudes an earnestness and a wonderment that is frankly too rare. He never stops learning, or wanting to learn. And that may be the best lesson of all.

I genuinely did a double take last fall when I saw SNL alum Pete Davidson and Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline were reportedly dating. After both Pete and Madelyn allegedly split from their partners, multiple sources confirmed they were dating to both People and Us Weekly. The celebs kept their relationship pretty under-wraps, but in a new interview with NYLON, Madelyn's comments on the breakup (which happened earlier this year) prove SHE should be the one on SNL.

Did Madelyn Cline and Pete Davidson break up?

Netflix

Yes, Madelyn Cline and Pete Davidson broke up in early 2024. When asked about the relationship (and the nature of being in public relationships) in an interview with NYLON, she simply responded with, "The jokes write themselves.” (And a smirk apparently). Madelyn is always proving girls can be hot and funny. Thank you Maddy!

When did Madelyn Cline and Pete Davidson date?

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue

A source told US in the fall of 2023 that “Pete and Madelyn are dating. They spent the night together at the Beverly Hills Hotel and then had breakfast together there the next morning...They were really low-key and kept things casual, wearing baseball hats.” Madelyn also showed up to Pete Davidson's stand-up show in Las Vegas on September 23.

Both of these reports came after Madelyn posted some photos to Instagram — one of which includes a mystery man with an arm around her. Pete, is that you?

Have Pete Davidson and Madelyn Cline been seen together?

Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images

Madelyn Cline and Pete Davidson were spotted together at the end of January 2024 after Pete's set at the Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Madelyn, who's a Tommy Hilfiger ambassador, wore a tan Tommy Hilfiger cap and a fur jacket (which is going to influence my fashion for the rest of the winter, thank you Maddy). Pete wore a black hoodie and brown jacket combo.

Pete Davidson and Madelyn Cline were also seen together after Pete hosted SNL Saturday, October 14. “They seemed very lovey, very cute, but they kept to themselves," a People source said.

Who has Pete Davidson dated?

Dave Kotinsky/Getty Images for Hellmann's

Pete Davidson has dated people like Ariana Grande, American Horror Story star Kim Kardashian, Margaret Qualley, and Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor. Pete told Jon Bernthal on the Real Ones podcastthat his dating history is "very crazy and interesting to people. I don't think it's that interesting...In 12 years I've dated 10 people. I don't really think that's that crazy, but to some people, it seems very interesting. That became all anyone would talk about."

"I'm not, like, flexing, you know what I mean?" he continues. "These people that I've dated, I met them at work...I wasn't in anyone's DMs, no one was in mine...Suddenly you're in this f*cking zeitgeist and everything that's spoken about you has zero to do with the work. And that s a really sh*tty feeling."

How long did Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes date?

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes announced they were dating after Outer Banks premiered in 2020, but ended up splitting just over a year later in November of 2021 before being linked to DJ Zack Bia.

"[Chase and I] had a working relationship before we had a personal relationship, and our job from day one has always been to leave the show better than we found it," Madelyn told Entertainment Weekly ahead of Outer Banks season 3. "I'm incredibly grateful for my co-stars and their professionalism and just how talented each and every one of them are."

Where can I watch Pete Davidson and Madelyn Cline?

Columbia Pictures

Pete Davidson and Madelyn Cline both have quite a few titles you can watch! Pete has starred in Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, Meet Cute, and is in one of 2023's fall moviesDumb Money. In addition to teen dramaOuter Banks, you can see Madelyn in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. She also guest starred on Stranger Things and The Originals.

For fans wondering "Will there be a Guts tour?", Rodrigo enlisted the help of a popular TikTok audio to reply to a comment reading, “When do you think you’ll go on tour?” – although her reply was severely open-ended, and didn’t actually answer the question at all.

“Oh my goodness, I love this question,” the audio rang out, finishing with an incomplete: “Um, I think–” and it cut off. She looked elated in the video, and no wonder. The Guts tour was one of the most fun parts about 2024!

Our favorite dancing queens (Meryl Streep included) might be returning to the big screen for a third encore of Mamma Mia! and we’re already rewatching the first two movie musicals in preparation.

In an interview with Deadline in May of 2023, Mamma Mia! franchise creator and producer Judy Craymer said a third movie musical is in "earliest stages." She also shared that she has come up with a way to bring Meryl Streep back again.

"I don't want to over-egg it," she said of the unofficial news, "but I know there's a trilogy there…and I do think Meryl should come back, and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna."

"Of course I want to do it," Streep said during the 2024 Cannes Film Festival (via Deadline). Sounds promising to us!

Is Mamma Mia 3 happening?

Universal Pictures

Yes, Mamma Mia 3 is in its early planning stages! Christine Baranski just told The Hollywood Reporter that she's met with producer Judy Kramer, and that Kramer has plans for the third movie. "She gave me the narrative plotline of how it’s going to happen," Baranski says. "That’s all I can say! But, it’s not like, 'Oh, I wish it could happen!' Judy Kramer makes things happen. She made number two happen, and it was a phenomenal hit. I wouldn’t put it past Judy Kramer to get everybody back together."

Universal Pictures

A third installation was first mentioned way back in 2020, during a Collider interview with Mamma Mia! star Amanda Seyfried. Seyfried said she was on board — and at the time, she thought the rest of the star-studded cast would be too.

"Listen, every single person in that movie would say yes in a heartbeat because we want to hang out with each other," Seyfried told Collider at the time. "That's what we talked about last time, like did we ever think that we'd end up here again on an Island in Croatia?"

When will Mamma Mia 3 come out?

Universal Pictures

We don't have an official answer about when to expect this highly anticipated sequel. The project is in the "earliest stages," according to creator and producer, Judy Craymer, so hopefully we'll have more answers sooner rather than later!

Has casting information been shared about Mamma Mia 3?

Jonathan Prime/Universal Studios

While nothing's been made official, Amanda Seyfried just said something that made my heart skip a beat. She told ABC News she loves Sabrina Carpenter's music and dropped this admission: "If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I’ll make it happen."

But before she admitted that, the actress said something else that made me raise my eyebrows. "Everybody says it’s gonna happen, but I mean, I haven’t seen a script."

I don't know what it'll take, but hope someone gets a script in Amanda Seyfried's hands ASAP because we need to see this mother-daughter duo onscreen.

What is the first Mamma Mia about?

Universal Pictures

The first film follows Donna (Streep) and Sophie (Seyfried) as mother and daughter living on a remote Greek island. When Sophie is about to marry Sky (Dominic Cooper), she sets out to learn who her real father is after discovering it could be one of three men (played by Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, and Colin Firth).

Who does the second Mamma Mia follow?

Universal Pictures / NBCUniversal

Mamma Mia 2takes viewers back to 1979, where young Donna (Lily James) embarks on a series of adventures throughout Europe following her Oxford University graduation. On her journeys, she makes the acquaintances of Harry, Bill and Sam – the latter whom she falls in love with. In the present day, pregnant Sophie dreams of renovating a taverna while reuniting with her mother's old friends and boyfriends on a Greek island island.

TBH, we’re pretty happy that Mamma Mia! is far from over, and we can’t wait to see what the franchise has in store for us next. Stay updated on all the latest entertainment news with Brit + Co.

Taylor Swift and her amazing “date” to the VMAs (aka her Bad Blood co-stars) were a sight to remember. In fact, we remember them so well that we are bringing them back for Halloween. Whether you want to rock this as a group costume or dress as Tay and simply carry around your #squad as a party-hopping prop, this costume is sure to turn heads much like these ladies did on the red (or rather color blocked) carpet.

This girl group look will always be one of our favorite moments from VMAs history.

How To Be Taylor Swift's Squad For Halloween:

Brit + Co

Materials + Tools:

  • photos of the #squad
  • 11 x 17-inch paper (needs to be this big to fit over your cute little face)
  • scissors
  • popsicle sticks
  • tape

Instructions:

  1. Print out your #squad faces.
  2. Cut them out.
  3. Tape a popsicle stick to the back and you’re done!

Brit + Co

Print out one or all of these famous faces. We recommend making lots of them so that you can hand them out all evening. Carefully cut out each face. These ladies don’t need plastic surgery, so stay in the lines!

Finally, tape a popsicle stick to the back to turn them into masks. What, did that take you five minutes? Less? We thought so.

And now on to the fashion show!

First up we’ve got T. Swift herself. Looking foxy in her crop top pant combo. Make sure to slick your hair and add those notable cat eyes.

Next we’ve got Cara Delevingne played by our very own Kelly. For this look, find a short flowy black dress with silver details.

Maddie is doing model Gigi Hadid right with her long-sleeve yellow dress.

For Selena Gomez, Ashley wore an adorable wide-leg jumpsuit.

A flowy coral dress and sandals work perfectly to play the part of Karlie Kloss.

Much like the girls at the VMAs, our in-house crew was having a fabulous time behind the camera.
