Discover Why This Middle Eastern Country Is a Holiday Favorite for the Royal Family

While the rest of the Windsors gathered in London to welcome the royal baby this April, Princess Beatrice jetted off to Jordan with the likes of Karlie Kloss and Ellie Goulding. Rather than fete the youngest heir to the British throne, she palled around with Crown Prince Hussein, heir apparent of Jordan. Though her shirking of family protocol was received with a bit of shock, her choice of destination didn’t break with tradition.

The morning sun strikes a rock formation in Wadi Rum

Jordan has a long history with the royal family: the nation’s monarchy was created by the British in the wake of WWI and, a century later, the British royals remain partial to the country’s charms. The country’s photogenic, Deerfield-educated royal hosts certainly add to the appeal: King Abdullah attended the New England boarding school, and Queen Rania is renowned for her sense of style. Although Jordan is a staple for the European jet-set, it remains relatively unknown for American travelers. Even when our First Ladies of pop culture (Sex and the City, duh) traveled to the Middle Eastern desert, they only visited Abu Dhabi. Hopeless American tourists indeed (and an even more hopeless sequel, at that). What is it about this country that so appeals to the royal family and their blue blood affiliates? A mixture of ancient architecture, vast deserts, and elegant nightlife on Rainbow Street in the nation’s capital. From Dead Sea resorts to desert safaris, here is your royal travel guide of must-sees in Jordan.

1. Wadi Rum: This UNESCO World Heritage Site is also known as the Valley of the Moon, and the desert where Princess Beatrice took her recent holiday is also beloved by Will and Kate (it was even reported as the site of their honeymoon). Desert safaris offer a unique opportunity for unmediated adventure and cultural immersion — a chance to experience a way of life that’s usually inaccessible to visitors. The freedom is liberating: Navigate by camel, ATV, and Jeep 4×4 under the Middle Eastern sun by day, and set up camp with Bedouin hosts beneath a spectacular sky of stars at nightfall. Be the first of your friends to Instagram from this majestic place — a picture of the sunset (with its vivid orange and pink sky) is sure to produce your most likes ever.

2. Amman: Jordan’s capital city — where Kate spent part of her childhood — is a historic blend of old and new. Head to the souks of the Old City to sample a traditional Middle Eastern marketplace, then visit the bars and restaurants of Rainbow Street to partake in the city’s burgeoning nightlife. The architecture and cuisine to be found along the palm-tree-lined streets of this charming city are not to be missed.

3. The Dead Sea: A short drive from Amman is the lowest point on Earth: the Dead Sea of Jordan. This natural wonder is also the saltiest point on earth, and — thanks to a rapidly changing climate — the time to visit is now, as this uniquely dramatic landscape could disappear within the next hundred years. Stay at the luxury Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea to holiday like a royal: With a spa, tree-shaded pools, and a private stretch of beach, this property is perfect for enjoying the natural wonder away from the crowds.

4. Aqaba: This seaside town on the Red Sea’s Gulf of Aqaba — also known as the “Bride of the Red Sea” — is a less salty alternative to the Dead Sea. Located just south of the city in the Aqaba Marine Park, its Yamanieh coral reef is one of the most magnificent in the world and a favorite among scuba divers. Even if scuba isn’t your thing, this coastal resort is perfect for all water enthusiasts, with windsurfing, snorkeling, and boating expeditions (and if simply watching the waves roll in is more your speed, there’s plenty of alfresco seaside dining).

5. Petra: The rose-red city of Petra is a can’t-miss destination — not only in Jordan or the region, but on the planet, as the ancient city is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The 850 steps to Ad Deir (“The Monastery”) are 100 percent worth it and most beautiful (and less swarmed by tourists) at sunrise or sunset. After a day of exploring, the walk down can be even more grueling than the hike up, so we recommend a donkey ride as a leisurely reward at the end of your day.

6. Jerash: Another ancient city that’s a favorite among travelers, Jerash is located just north of Jordan’s capital of Amman. It’s home to the country’s famed Roman ruins, so be sure to visit the Temple of Artemis and the Arch of Hardian. And the Jerash Archaeological Museum brings the past to life for even the most neglectful student of world history. But as you’re touring the city’s cultural legacies, remember your sunblock: The Jordanian sun is not to be underestimated, especially in the summertime.

Yellowstone season 5B is here! Twisters might have been THE summer movie of 2024, but the western vibes aren't going away, even after the Glen Powell movie has left theaters. The second half of Yellowstone season 5 returned to Paramount November 10 and it did not disappoint. 16.4 million viewers tuned into the premiere over a variety of networks — making it the most-watched season premiere in the show's history.

And it's a major season for one very specific reason: Kevin Costner isn't returning as John Dutton. The star decided to exit the series after season 5's eighth episode premiered in January 2023, but as big of a change is this is, Costner is still an executive producer on the series, giving it a familiarity fans will appreciate.

Yellowstone has always been dramatic, but in the Yellowstone season 5 first look, you can just feel the tension from fan favorites like Beth Dutton, Monica Long, and Kayce Dutton. And no wonder: the Duttons' family drama is coming to a head, and it looks like someone might not make it out alive. Read up on everything you need to know about the new season of Yellowstone, and check out why Paramount+'s New Drama Landman Is Perfect For Yellowstone Fans.

Keep reading for everything you need to know about the final season of Yellowstone.

What happened on the finale of Yellowstone?

Paramount

Yellowstone season 5 had two major themes: save the ranch and avenge John Dutton's death. And the Yellowstone finale saw both of those things happen in their own way. Kayce sells the property to High Chief Thomas Rainwater at $1.25 an acre (the price when his ancestors took it) on two conditions: his family stays in their home, and the land will never be developed or sold to anyone else.

And after John's funeral (where Beth literally tells his casket she'll avenge him), Beth runs off to Jamie's house, gets into a brutal fight, and stabs him in the heart before moving to start a peaceful (?) new life in Dillon, Montana with Rip. I guess all's well that ends well?

Is this the last season of Yellowstone?

Paramount

It's always hard to say goodbye to a beloved show, but despite reports that Yellowstone would end with season 5, it looks like we could be getting a Yellowstone season 6 after all. Deadline confirmed that negotiations are happening for a potential continuation, which would focus on Kelly Reilly's Beth and Cole Hauser's Rip.

Reilly told Entertainment Weekly ahead of the season 5 premiere that "Beth is more like a wild animal this season than ever. When I read the scripts, it made me think [that] she is, for the first time, maybe afraid she will lose it for [her dad]."

"It's dark, brutal and desperate stuff — gaining power, losing it, defending and fighting," she continues. "It's bloody and at times beautiful in how it breaks them into their core selves." The setup for a potential season 6 will totally depend on how season 5 ends — and how it affects Beth, Rip, and the rest of the family.

Is Kevin Costner in Yellowstone season 5 part 2?

Paramount

No Kevin Costner is not in the second half of Yellowstone season 5, and we find out the fate of his character John Dutton immediately. When Beth and Kayce find John dead in the bathroom, Beth immediately suspects foul play and blames it on Jamie. Well, Kevin is finally speaking on his character's end, and told The Michael Smerconish Programon November 11 that he actually didn't know the show had premiered the night before.

“I’m going to be perfectly honest. I didn’t know it was actually airing last night,” he says. “That’s a swear-to-God moment. I’ve been seeing ads with my face all over the place and I’m thinking, ‘Gee, I’m not in that one.’ But I didn’t realize yesterday was the thing...I heard it’s a suicide, so that doesn’t make me want to rush to go see it.”

But even if Kevin isn't over the moon about watching his character die, he doesn't have any bad blood with the writers. “They’re pretty smart people,” he continues. “Maybe it’s a red herring. Who knows? They’re very good. And they’ll figure that out.”

Well, the actor told Entertainment Tonight that he STILL hasn't seen the season 5 premiere as of November 17. “I didn’t watch it, so I don’t really have any thoughts about it,” he said. Due to delays from the writer's strike, and a tug-of-war between Paramount saying Kevin couldn't film new episodes and Kevin saying creator Taylor Sheridan took too long to write the scripts, the actor chose to leave the series, reportedly in part to promote his Horizon movie franchise.

“I gave this thing five seasons,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporterthis summer. “I was really happy to do it. And I don’t need drama. So, let’s just take that drama away, let’s take the guessing [away]. The fans have been way too good to me. And my obligation is to go on and continue to make things that mean something to them.”

How many episodes are in Yellowstone season 5?

What is Yellowstone season 5 about?

Paramount

Yellowstone Season 5 Plot

The series introduced us to the Duttons, a powerful family in charge of America's biggest contiguous cattle ranch. Every season has been gritty and powerful, and in the fifth season, we've seen John become Montana's governor and make Beth his chief of staff. But with Jamie trying to take the power away from his dad, the Duttons are fighting each other like we've never seen — especially when Jamie and Beth start considering how to get away with murder.

Luke Grimes recently told Entertainment Weekly how pleased he is with the finale, and Kelly Reilly revealed creator Taylor Sheridan actually told her the ending to the series while they filmed season 1.

“I read the last episode the day before we started filming,” Luke says. “I couldn't be happier. I think it's a perfect ending for the show for every character. It's just a testament to what a good writer Taylor is, and it's a very, very profound, beautiful ending. I can't wait to sit down and watch it one day.”

This post has been updated.

When I was pregnant, I was terrified of labor. I heard only the horror stories, but my experience, like many others I later learned, went surprisingly smooth. It was definitely not what I imagined from the movie labor scenes I witnessed, with the OTT screaming and sweating, especially since I chose to get an epidural.

I was soon reading Amy Poehler's Yes, Please! while lying on the delivery table. (Which was actually the perfect book because she talks about her labor fears too). I even took a nap! I felt great. It wasn’t until the last two hours that I had to “push” — which was no picnic, but also you get through it with lots of nursing cheers and partner support — and the immediate feeling after when you finally meet your babe is BLISS.

This is all to say: maybe keep the scary pregnancy stories private if you have them. I always make a point of sharing my positive story with newly expecting moms in hopes that they will worry less when all you can do is wait. I think a good rule of thumb is to be supportive, positive and excited for her/them. Here are 15 things you maybe shouldn’t tell a woman with a baby bump.

Toa Heftiba

1. "Wow, you’re huge!" or "Are you sure it’s not twins?"

Comments about size or weight, whether the person is “too big” or “too small,” can be hurtful. Every pregnancy looks different so put any thoughts about physical attributes to bed.

Yan Krukau

2. "Should you be eating/drinking that?"

Policing someone’s food or drink choices is invasive and unnecessary. Trust that they’re capable of making informed decisions, with their OB/GYN's support, about themselves and their baby.

Vince Fleming

3. "Was it planned?" or "How long did it take?"

Questions about conception are deeply personal and inappropriate unless they choose to share this info with you.

Leah Newhouse

4. "What are you going to name the baby?"

Many couples want to keep the name private until the baby is born and I'll explain why. Because when you do share, people have their own associations with the name and are not afraid to share what they think, even with just a look on their face. We decided to stop telling people we were naming our baby Matilda because we got negative comments. Now all people say when they meet her is how much they love the name. It's all about the person, not the name!

Jessica Rockowitz

5. "Are you returning to work?"

This is a decision a woman can make with her partner and family without the need to share or decide during the pregnancy stage. I decided three months in, after returning to work, that I couldn't manage a new baby and a demanding job and thought my only option was to leave. Turns out, my boss was very accommodating and allowed me to work from home my first year as a new mom. This is a private decision but also so much changes once the baby arrives.

cottonbro studios

6. "Are you hoping for a boy/girl?"

Talking about gender can put unnecessary pressure on the idea of gender preference when the health of the baby is what truly matters.

Pavel Danilyuk

7. "You look tired."

Pregnancy is exhausting, especially during that first trimester. Pointing it out doesn’t help and might make expecting moms feel self-conscious. "Glowing" and "beautiful" are better words for mama-to-be to hear!

Shutterstock

8. "You’ll sleep when the baby sleeps."

Actually, you won't because mom has so many other things to take care of, including herself, when the baby is sleeping. Instead, offer to help watch the baby so she can get some sleep or offer to help run errands. This is so much better than advice that is just not practical!

Jonathan Borba

9. "You're going to have your hands full!"

Pregnancy and parenthood come with plenty of changes, but fear-mongering or negativity isn’t helpful. Everyone’s experience is unique, and making blanket statements like this one is just not useful to new moms.

PNW Production

10. "Enjoy your freedom while it lasts."

Parenthood may change things, but it’s not helpful to imply life ends once the baby arrives. The first year and beyond are so rewarding and can even bring you and your partner even closer. Yes, it's challenging in terms of having free time, but you find so many moments of joy too that you don't really want to be away from your baby!

Febe Vanermen

11. "Can I touch your belly?" (or worse, touching without asking)

Always ask for permission, and don’t take offense if they say no. Personal space and body autonomy is still important.

Ivan Samkov

12. Do you plan to breastfeed?

This is such a personal choice and the question itself comes off as judgmental. Also, some women who plan to breastfeed can't so this is a question better left unasked.

Jeferson Santu

13. "How much weight have you gained?"

Weight-related comments are intrusive and can be offensive. See question one!

Amina Filkins

14. "You’re going to bounce back, right?"

Recovery is personal, and this type of comment pressures new moms to meet unrealistic expectations.

Germs

15. "Is the baby here yet?"

I was a few days late and had several people check in maybe a little too often. I wanted to say, 'You'll know when I know!" Late in pregnancy, this can be frustrating and annoying. We're already counting the days and don’t need reminders!

Besides Princess Diana, I never kept up with the Royals until Prince Harry and Meghan Marklebecame one of media's new fixations. It seems like most of the world was shocked when the former bachelor announced he was ready to get married for a number of reasons — but nothing seemed more puzzling to others than learning who he was in love with: Megan Markle.

It didn't take long for inflammatory comments about her to find their way into public articles and online social platforms. There's been disparaging ideology tossed around about her attitude, the fact she's older than Harry, and more. As a black woman who knows she'll never marry into a royal family, I've always wondered what it is about her that makes people bristle. I'm not 100% sure, but I have a few theories about why she's such a hot topic.

6 seriously unfair reasons it feels like people can't stand Meghan Markle

1. She Had A Career In Hollywood Prior To Marrying Prince Harry

Unique Nicole/Getty Images

Before Meghan married Prince Harry, she was an actress in Hollywood. She appeared in episodes of 90210, CSI: Miami, and more notably, Suits. According To Business Insider, she was also one of the "briefcase girls" on Deal or No Deal. However, she didn't mind stepping away from her career once she and Harry got engaged.

While royals are born into their dynasty, Meghan worked to build hers. It almost feels like people have questioned, "How dare this silly American actress think she deserves to marry into the Royal family?" While she's a celebrity to us, they're treating her as less than because she had to earn it. Tell me how that makes sense!

2. Classism & Racism Give Way To Nasty Behavior

Chris Jackson/Getty Images for the Invictus Games Foundation

If you're still saying you "don't see color" in 2024 and refuse to understand race does matter, you're perpetuating a narrative that likes to ignore the reality of being considered a minority in the public's eyes. What's interesting is that Meghan is biracial — she's both black and white — and yet she's still subject to off-putting, racial comments about her.

Think about about it like this: British monarchy is incredibly antiquated (and some even think it should be abolished), where one (white) leader acts as a figurehead and inherits power over the whole country just because of the family they were born into. So, when Meghan revealed to Oprah that there were “concerns and conversations" about "how dark" their son's skin would be when he was born — it's both shocking and unfortunately unsurprising. Of course a system rooted in whiteness would seek to perpetuate that same whiteness.

Meghan's Blackness in a culture of white supremacy will always be problematic to those who haven't unlearned racism. And honestly? That's just the tip of the racist, classist iceberg.

3. The Media Treats Meghan Markle Differently Than Kate Middleton

Charles McQuillan/Getty Images

BuzzFeed News actually put together a list of 20 headlines that showed a stark difference in how the media treats them and it had my jaw on the floor. I knew there seemed to be a pattern with how the media likes to look at them, but seeing it in black and white genuinely makes me sick to my stomach. Just look at these articles from Daily Mail and Mirror:

Let's get one thing straight: Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are two different women. There's nothing that indicates they're going to 100% mirror each other's actions, but people seem to love using Kate Middleton as an example of why Meghan Markle gets everything wrong. Not only is that unfair to Meghan, it's also tasteless to rope Kate into harmful opinions.

4. Prince Harry Chose To Publicly Protect Her

Chris Jackson/Getty Images

I still don't know why this is such a shock to people considering Prince Harry witnessed how awful the British media was to his mother. You know, Princess Diana? The same woman whose life was cut horribly short as she tried to get away from pesky paparazzi?

When it was apparent the media wasn't going to stop sharing harmful things about his wife, Prince Harry made sure to publicly speak out against it. He was quoted as saying, "I will always protect my family, and now I have a family to protect," and "Part of this job is putting on a brave face but, for me and my wife, there is a lot of stuff that hurts, especially when the majority of it is untrue" (via BBC). Unfortunately, people took it as an "us or her" kind of thing, creating a narrative that Meghan Markle forced Prince Harry to defend her.

I may not be the brightest crayon in the box, but I always assumed it's common sense for romantic partners to protect each other in situations where unfair treatment happens. I'm nowhere near famous and my fiancé has spoken up several times when someone's done something disrespectful in public. However, I think because people are used to the old guard's 'rules' that Meghan should put on a brave face and deal with it, rather than be the real, raw human that she is.

5. Meghan & Prince Harry Left The Royal Family

Toby Melville - Pool/Getty Images

In an unprecedented move, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to leave the royal family in 2020. "After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen," a portion of their official statement read.

According to BBC, the couple didn't talk to anyone prior to making their decision which is believed to have caused an uproar. Yet, another BBC article sheds light on how difficult it was for them to navigate with so much negative attention from the press. Although Meghan knew to expect some pushback, she at least hoped "it would be fair."

6. She & Prince Harry Aren't Afraid To Reframe Their Own Narratives

Mike Coppola/Getty Images for 2022 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Gala

Still, Meghan and Prince Harry have been doing their best to take control of their own narratives despite the media's blatant attempts to paint them as villainous beings. In 2021, the couple finally opened up about life as royals during an interview with Oprah Winfrey— you know, where the famous "Were you silent, or were you silenced?" question comes from. After that, Meghan and Prince Harry decided to share their own documentary in 2022 to give their own perspectives about their lives with Prince Harry writing his own memoir, Spare, the next year.

Some people felt the couple wasn't doing a good job of escaping the press when they decided to publicly speak up, but it's important to remember two things can be true. The kind of privacy they requested stemmed from the invasive articles, opinions, and paparazzi photos — so it makes sense that they would use that same insatiable press to push their side of the story to the public at large. However, it feels like people assume this is the life Meghan earned by marrying into the royal family — one full of media and criticism and more — and it's upsetting when she actually addresses her perspective, shattering that illusion they've built about celebrity and royalty.

Also, it's not lost on me that one of their neighbors recently enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame by claiming Meghan doesn't provide anything to the Montecito neighborhood they live in (via Page Six). I'm not sure why people feel they're entitled to her time and energy so she can prove she's worthy of their positive opinions, but this feels seeped in "I need a real hobby." Her presence does not exist for your pleasure.

I'm sure someone will see the headline of this article and recommit to their negative feelings about Meghan Markle, but at least there's one less horrific and unfair article about her that exists online.

Christmas has come early for two reasons: Carpool Karaoke is back — and so is Lady Gaga! Wondering what they have in common? Everything!

The 2010's sensation gave us amazing celebrity appearances with James Corden as driver extraordinaire, and stars like Harry Styles, Katy Perry, and Selena Gomez. Lady Gaga joined the carpool in 2016 — with over 88 million views on Youtube — singing songs like "Million Reasons" and "Bad Romance" to her heart's content.

Finally, the pop star — and the show itself, TBH — made a return this week! And more than that? Lady Gaga even debuted her new Christmas song. I've already played it multiple times, so I know it's about to top my most-played Christmas songs. Excited? Here's everything you need to know about the surprise song drop, the return of Carpool Karaoke, and more!

See how Carpool Karaoke gave us the biggest surprise of 2024 — a new Lady Gaga Christmas song!

www.youtube.com

- YouTube

In an unexpected trailer for A Carpool Karaoke Christmas, Zane Lowe can be seen accepting a phone call from the one and only James Corden who has a huge favor to ask. The first passenger Lowe picks up is the "Bad Romance" songstress herself — followed by Chappelle Roan and Dua Lipa's own individual appearances.

The car's decked out in green wreaths and festive red bows which adds to the Christmas spirit as everyone sings along to famous holiday songs. Lady Gaga can also be heard singing "Christmas Tree" which has fans in the trailer's comment section besides themselves with glee!

According to Deadline, the special premiered on Apple TV+ December 15, so it's not too late to watch it if you're just as excited as we are. But that's not all!

The outlet also reported Lady Gaga and Lowe released a new version of "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town" on all streaming music platforms! This means you get to hear the pop star give the nostalgic song a punk rock vibe that's now stuck in our heads.

If Lady Gaga tells us not to pout or cry, we're going to listen! (And sing along while we're at it 😉)

Luigi Mangione sparked a media frenzy after his arrest for the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, and details of the case set the internet ablaze with speculation and theories, transforming the tragedy into a gripping real-life mystery. The bizarre circumstances surrounding the case, coupled with the public’s insatiable appetite for true crime, quickly turned Luigi Mangione into a household name.

As shocked as I already am about the whole situation, nothing could have prepared me for the thirst edits or the Luigi slideshows playing against Hannah Montana's "He Could Be The One"— are y'all okay?! And it looks like the celebrity fascination is peaking because 7 days after his arrest, a Luigi Mangione documentary is already on its way.

Here's everything we know about the Luigi Mangione documentary coming soon.

A Luigi Mangione documentary is in development from Stephen Robert Morse.

Jeff Swensen/Getty Images

Deadline confirms that Stephen Robert Morse (who's behind documentaries like Amanda Knox and How to Rob a Bank on Netflix) is developing a feature documentary about 26-year-old Luigi Mangione. The filmmaker, who's been nominated for two Emmys, is already set to direct.

“This case is complex and raises important questions about vigilantism, the devastating cost of a privatized healthcare system, and the inevitability of violence when peaceful change is seen as impossible,” Stephen says in an interview with Deadline. “My goal is to present a balanced exploration of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s assassination, showing all sides of the story while respecting the profound loss of life and its impact on everyone involved.”

In the age of the internet, it's no surprise a documentary is coming together so quickly. And Stephen is already planning how to engage with members of Gen Z who will be tuning in, noting that “this documentary will be memed.” But he also explains that he wants the film to “foster a deeper understanding” of the entire legal situation while also honoring the loss, which will help not to alienate older generations.

The internet has one celebrity they want to see play Luigi Mangione.

Even though this Luigi Mangione documentary might include interviews with the individuals involved instead of a cast of actors, the internet is already fancasting a hypothetical feature film (which, based on the current obsession with biopics, isn't out of the realm of possibility).

The most popular fancast is Dave Franco, and honestly the resemblance is uncanny. "No audition needed. I crown you Luigi!" one TikToker says in the comments, while another jokes, "He was born for this Role.. it is destiny."

Stay tuned for the latest news on this documentary — any any potential feature films.

What do you think about the internet reaction to Luigi Mangione's arrest? Are you one of the true crime-obsessed? Let us know on Facebook. And check out The Best True Crime Podcasts to listen to tonight.
