Julia Roberts is putting her Greenwich Village apartment on the market for a cool $4.5 million, but we’re still grabbing “cool” decor ideas from her stylish abode. This 2,000-square-foot home comes with a wood-burning fireplace and a terrace that is every urban outdoor-lover’s dream. With its fresh and modern palette, the natural textures and pops of color mixed in keep things interesting. And the best thing to note about Julia’s simply decorated home is that less is always more. Instead of cluttering up her space, she chose pieces that she really loved rather than things that “belonged.” Scroll on for how to get the look.
Even though the apartment is built around an all-white palette, the space still feels warm thanks to lots of texture from the wood floors, the jute rug, shiny metals and a throw blanket on every chair. Blue decor pieces are a fun addition that also keep the space from feeling stark and unfriendly.
To get the modern, blue-ish look, bring in some texture with a concrete lamp from Rejuvenation ($159) and a DIY metallic side table that barely takes up any room but brings major wow factor with copper and marble. Throw down a natural textured rug from West Elm ($40+) and add some color with a bold blue vase from Target ($20).
In another seating area, a red leather couch really adds some interest and brings the whole room to life. A couple neutral throw pillows and blankets keep the look cozy and inviting, and the coffee table is perfectly styled with the ideal odd number of objects.
While a perfectly styled coffee table means something different to everyone, you can’t go wrong with a pile of pretty books — including Homemakers, of course — plus a round wooden tray from IKEA ($10) for holding knick-knacks like candles ($20) and a vase from Urban Outfitters ($58) for bouquets of fresh flowers.
How fabulous are those striped floors? Even if you can’t paint your floor, an enormous striped rug ($40+) will bring the same effect and can help make a tiny kitchen look much bigger.
The master bedroom feels calm and peaceful with all-white-everything, but a couple pops of bright blue ensure the room isn’t a total snooze-fest. The nesting side tables are a fun option for small living as you can bring extra storage to other rooms when you need it.
Blue is an obvious color for a serene bedroom, and a couple of ombre throw pillows ($58) mixed in with these ikat pillows from Etsy ($17) will complement a neutral color scheme. Hack the IKEA nesting tables ($60) with a paint color of your choice like this DIY from Classy Clutter and reflect any natural light your bedroom has with a big statement mirror from West Elm ($350).
Probably the best part of this apartment is the outdoor living space — just look at that view. Complete with a little sitting area and a big dining room table that’s begging to be part of a summer dinner party, this small patio has enough room for a couple planter boxes and a wicker table for holding morning coffee and evening cocktails.
