Juman Malouf’s 10 Books I Read When I Want to Revisit Childhood

While being an adult certainly comes with some major perks (hello, drivers license and disposable income!), it’s hard to beat the wonder of being a kid. No one knows that better than the incredibly talented artist and children’s book author, Juman Malouf. We’ve asked Juman to share the books she reads when she wants to revisit childhood. Whether you’re hunting for the perfect book for your niece or you’re in the mood to revel in nostalgia, these stories will surprise and delight you.

Juman Malouf is an artist, fashion designer, costumer and, with the debut of her novel, The Trilogy of Two, she’s a children’s book author as well. She’s also the wildly talented artist behind the whimsical character sketches in Moonrise Kingdom, a film written and directed by her husband, Wes Anderson. She graduated from Brown University with a BA in fine arts and art history. She received an MFA from Tisch School of the Arts for set and costume design.

Juman’s Book Recommendations

1. Let’s Kill Uncle by Rohan O’Grady ($10): [This is] a wonderful children’s book, which had a great Edward Gorey illustrated cover when it was first published. I only discovered this book as an adult, but I would’ve loved it even more as a twelve-year-old. It’s suspenseful and whimsical. I like the extremely detailed descriptions of the foods in their little picnics.

2. Black Jack by Leon Garfield ($8): I love Leon Garfield, and this is one of my favorites. There’s a lot about it that reminds me of Charles Dickens, but it’s freer and wilder. There is a giant, a circus, a dark forest and a mad young girl named Belle.

3. Alice in Wonderlandby Lewis Carroll ($18): A few years ago, I saw the first version Carroll actually wrote by hand and illustrated (which he called Alice’s Adventures Under Ground). Those drawings were the model for the illustrations in all the other versions over the years. Like everybody else, I was completely enchanted by this story as a child.

4. The Twits by Roald Dahl ($7): There isn’t a Dahl book I don’t like! This one I remember in particular because I loved Quentin Blake’s pictures of Mr. Twit and all the disgusting food that would get stuck in his beard.

5. Ramona Quimby by Beverly Cleary ($7): It’s been thirty years since I read these, but I remember loving Ramona and wanting to be as mischievous as she was. Also, I wanted her haircut.

6. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein ($17): In Shel Silverstein’s books, I think the drawings are exactly as important as the text, and they seem to have been conceived together. This always fascinated me, which makes sense now, as it is what I love doing. The Giving Tree still makes me cry today.

7. Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens ($8): They gave us the abridged version. I was obsessed with Fagin and his gang of pickpocket street urchins. The Artful Dodger was my favorite. A gang called the Scrummagers in my book is inspired by them.

8. The All-of-a-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor ($7): There are five of these books. I don’t know how I got my hands on them living in London. They were set in turn-of-the-century, Lower East Side Manhattan — a completely foreign world to me. I read them over and over and had to tape the spines back together. One of the covers was the five sisters dressed in matching smocks and pinafores, standing under a tree. It eventually fell off the book, and I tacked it to the wall of my bedroom.

9. Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery ($8): In this book, the Prince Edward Islands are described as though they were almost magical, Edenic places. Anne is a memorable character. She talks non-stop and has bright red hair and a heart of gold.

10. Lord of the Flies by William Golding ($10): We had to write an essay about this one — not just a book report! We had to analyze it a bit, rather than just prove we had read it. I think it taught me and my classmates about looking for what’s below the surface in stories, and how they may work on a sub-conscious level. [It’s] a startling, haunting book.

While we're all sad about The White Lotus season 3 coming to a close following the shocking finale, there is some good news: the show was already renewed for a fourth season! That means fans of the drama and debauchery will definitely be getting another fix soon. But where will our next dose be set?

All three iterations of The White Lotusthus far have been set in tropical destinations, with filming at The Four Seasons. According to executive producer David Bernad, the series continues to use this specific luxury resort chain since they were "the one hotel that let us shoot there."

Let's do a quick recap: season 1 was set in Hawaii, season 2 was in Italy, and season 3 was, of course, Thailand. These locales aren't chosen at random, either, but are rather picked to match each season's theme.

"For example, Koh Samui was not only chosen for its visually stunning environment overlooking the Gulf of Thailand but also for its thematic alignment with the season's exploration of Eastern spirituality and existential themes," detailed the chief commercial officer of Four Seasons Hotels, Marc Speichert.

However, fans have noticed how creator Mike White hasn't repeated any continents. Plus, each of the past filming locales was tropical, which may suggest the next season will go against the grain in a chillier region. With all this in mind, here are the locations rumored to be top contenders for The White Lotus season 4.

Here are the top locations we think The White Lotusseason 4 could take place!

1. Mexico or Egypt

Taryn Elliott

While these two destinations are thousands of miles apart, we're grouping them together for one main reason: an insider spoke to Parade and claimed the show's producers were scouting both spots.

"Right now, it's looking like the next season of The White Lotus will be shot in Egypt or Mexico. They want to pick somewhere they haven't shot yet, so a new continent. They want to go somewhere completely new since this season is in Asia, which is why they're between the two. The decision should be made soon," the insider alleged.

This would make sense, given that both Mexico City and Punta Mita have The Four Seasons.

2. Australia

Mudassir Ali

Another possible option is Australia. In fact, Mike White admitted it would be his "dream" to hit every single continent with the show.

"We kind of have to come to Australia if we keep going. It would be so fun. Obviously, there's a huge wealth of talent here, and the beauty is inarguable, so it feels like it checks all the boxes," he shared. (via Yahoo! News)

3. Norway

Lastly, I'm sure that a colder destination, like Norway, would help infuse brand-new antics into The White Lotus. Mike White supposedly scouted locations in the country, too, and reportedly spoke to the Norwegian Film Institute about a grant to film on location.

Unfortunately, though, executive producer David Bernad doesn't think it's actually in the cards, pointing out how Mike White isn't a fan of the cold.

During an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast, he continued, "[Mike] is a California guy. He is not built for the cold. Never say never, but I would be surprised."

If The White Lotus remains so successful, it seems inevitable that the show will eventually have to venture to a non-tropical locale. But, for now, there are still plenty of filming location options, and we'll just have to stay tuned regarding where the season 4 batch of entitled travelers goes next.

It's been nearly a year since Bridgerton season 3 came out, chronicling the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington as she wrestles under the weight of a big secret.

The highly anticipated two-part season concluded last June, and sadly, there still isn't an official release date for Season 4. According to Netflix, the next iteration of Bridgerton will center on Benedict Bridgerton meeting his love interest and feature eight episodes. Nonetheless, it may be a while (like 2026) until we get to dive into the Regency era yet again.

In the meantime, though, there is some good news: another Netflix series, TheLady's Companion, might just be able to fill that void. The Spanish period drama debuted on March 28, is set in 1880s Madrid, and has already received a ton of praise, with one fan tweeting, "If you love Bridgerton, you have to watch The Lady's Companion. It's so good, it has me giggling."

Here's what to know!

Scroll to find out everything you need to know about The Lady's Companion on Netflix!

What is 'The Lady's Companion' about?

Netflix

The Lady's Companion follows Elena Bianda, played by Nadia de Santiago, a 35-year-old actress from Spain who is most well-known for her role in Las Chicas Del Cable (The Cable Girls) from 2017 to 2020. Elena is Madrid's most in-demand lady's companion and a celebrated matchmaker with a reputation for guiding 20 women into "proper courtships and engagements."

Her life's passion is seeing her protégées become happily married. Yet, when she's invited to the Mencía household to identify suitable beaus for three sisters, things take an unexpected turn. Elena actually finds herself falling for a man named Santiago, who was originally meant for one of her clients, and gets tossed into a whirlwind of romance, secrets, and scandal.

Who's in 'The Lady's Companion' cast?

Netflix

Santiago is portrayed by 28-year-old Álvaro Mel, who played the lead role of Alex Ventura in La Fortuna, a 2021 adventure drama limited series. Other cast members include:

  • Isa Montalbán
  • Zoe Bonafonte
  • Tristán Ulloa
  • Iratxe Emparan
  • Gracia Olayo

When is 'The Lady's Companion' set?

Netflix

While the aesthetic and plot line of the show may feel reminiscent of Bridgerton, which is set between 1813 and 1827, TheLady's Companion coincides with the Alphosine era and the Restoration period, giving viewers a fresh take on another intriguing time in history. The first season has eight episodes, which are all around 40 minutes long and available for streaming on Netflix.

Will 'The Lady's Companion' get a season 2?

Netflix

Now, if you happen to love this show as much as Bridgerton, there is (thankfully) hope for a second season. Gema R. Neira, the creator of the series, revealed that the writers were already "working on it."

To be clear, nothing has been confirmed just yet! But given the first season's cliffhanger ending and "to be continued" message right before the credits, it seems in the cards. In the meantime, tune into Season 1 of The Lady's Companion, which currently has a 7.3-star rating out of 10 on IMDb.

I'm a tried-and-true Marvel stan — even as a kid, the idea of superheroes existing in the regular world and fighting evil always made me feel so powerful. And with WandaVision, Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolts*, that feeling has only evolved as I've become an adult. But as the MCU has grown, adding countless TV shows, characters, and universes, some of the original, classic nostalgia has faded. And that's where The Fantastic Four: First Steps comes in!

Flying into theaters July 11, 2025, The Fantastic Four takes place in an alternate 1960s — so when I say the movie is making me feel nostalgic, I mean it quite literally. And thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have a brand new look at the movie!

Keep reading for the newest images of Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in The Fantastic Four, coming to theaters July 11, 2025.

Who are the main 4 in Fantastic Four?

The Fantastic Four revolves around Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Entertainment Weekly just dropped a bunch of new pictures from the film — like this shot of Ben securing his helmet for space exploration.

When is The Fantastic Four?

Jay Maidment/Marvel Studios, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly

Marvel's Fantastic Four takes place in the 1960s...in a different universe. Because with Marvel's multiverse, anything is possible.

"We knew that we'd be on another Earth, so we had a chance to reinvent what the '60s looked like," director Matt Shakman (who also directed WandaVision!!) tells EW. "I was really interested in imagining the Fantastic Four being astronauts. Instead of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin going to the moon, what if it was Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben who were really the first to go into outer space, the first to push those boundaries?"

Who's in The Fantastic Four cast?

Jay Maidment/Marvel Studios, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly

The Fantastic Four cast was, without a doubt, the most important part of the movie to get right. "It wasn't just a search for who was the best Ben and who was the best Johnny, but also who was the best family?" Matt Shakman says. "Who was the best married couple? Who were the best siblings and honorary uncle? So it's been very gratifying to see the incredible chemistry that the four of them have had since the beginning."

The cast includes:

  • Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic: the leader of the Fantastic Four with the power to stretch his limbs.
  • Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman: Reed's wife who can turn invisible and create force fields.
  • Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch: Sue's brother who can ignite into flame and fly.
  • Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing: Reed's best friend who basically appears as a mass of rocks.

Are Sue Storm and Reed Richards married?

Jay Maidment/Marvel Studios, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly

Yes, Sue Storm and Reed Richards are married — and they make a perfect team.

"If he is the most scientifically intelligent person, then she is the most emotionally intelligent person on the planet," Matt Shakman tells EW. "Between the two of them, they're building an idealistic society."

"If you played an exact '60s Sue today, everyone would think she was a bit of a doormat," Vanessa Kirby adds. "So figuring out how to capture the essence of what she represented to each generation, where the gender politics were different, and embody that today, was one of the greatest joys of this."

Jay Maidment/Marvel Studios, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly

But they're also quickly going to become a family of three because Marvel confirmed during CinemaCon that the theory about Sue being pregnant is correct!

"One of the things I love most from Sue's history is when she becomes Malice, and all her dark stuff comes out," Vanessa Kirby says. "I wanted to make sure that there were tones of Malice in there with her, that she wasn't just the stereotype of a goody, sweet mother."

"I've always been really interested in the mess of femininity," she continues. "Not just the tough, invincible, powerful woman, but also a mother who gives birth, which is itself a superhero act. I love that these characters are real humans in a messy family who argue and try to work it out and get things wrong."

With this cast and WandaVision's Matt Shakman at the head, I know The Fantastic Four: First Steps is going to be a Marvel movie that goes down in history. Read up on 5 New Marvel Movies Worth Watching.
