Kaley Cuoco Proves You Can Braid Your Hair Even If It’s Short

If you’re thinking about going for a dramatic hair change to mark the beginning of fall, there are endless reasons why a pixie cut should be a front runner. You’ll spend less time under the hair dryer, showers will be quicker and, oh ya, it looks awesome. But one of the major downsides of the style is the inability to switch things up: when you’re rocking a pixie, you can definitely add a pin here or there but, overall, there isn’t much you can do to make it feel totally new. At least, that’s what we thought until we saw Kaley Cuoco’s latest Instagram.

The actress took to the social media platform yesterday to show off a super stunning halo braid. Usually, this wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but since Kaley is rocking a long pixie, we were surprised to see that she managed DIY the style and keep it in tact. Since we don’t have Kaley on speed dial (yet), we decided to consult our on-demand beauty guru (AKA good old Youtube) to see how we can hack the hairstyle.

Vlogger, Rachel Marie Miller, who has a super similar cut to Kaley (long in the front, short in the back,) shows us how to easily master the look. Rachel first take her long bangs and French braids them along the crown of her head, tying it off when it gets too short and securing it with a bobby pin. She then does the same on the other side and pins the excess hair that’s left up top into the crown braid so it doesn’t all come out throughout the day. Finish with a coat of hairspray and voila, instant versatility!

The hardest thing about having thin hair, is when you're trying to style your short, thin hair. It can be incredibly hard to style, especially you're always looking for new ways to add volume, only for it to fall flat... literally. Well, as a former short hair girly myself, with seriously thin hair, I've got the hacks and hairstyles for all the volume you could ever need.

Plus, I consulted the experts, Julius Michael(celebrity hair stylist) and Wes Sharpton (hairdresser at Hairstory) to get their professional opinions on which hairstyles are best for short and thin hair, as well as any pro tips they have for ways to add volume. So keep reading for all the best — and easiest — hairstyles to add volume to your short, thin hair!

Textured Side Part

Instagram/@juliusmichael1

Celebrity hairstylist Julius Michael gave us tips on how to achieve this cute, side part hairstyle that adds a lot of texture! He first, starts by adding texture to the roots with his Voloom hair iron, and then he finishes the style with a 3/4 inch curling iron to create soft waves. His number 1 tip for short, thin hair? Don't be afraid to experiment! He also embraces flyaways because they keep the hair naturally beautiful and not so frozen and stiff!

Layered Bun

Shai

A messy bun with with face framing pieces and layers, is the easiest way to fake volume. If your hair is flat like mine, and it just doesn't hold volume, then just throw your layers into a messy bun and pull out face-framing pieces. This will not only flatter your face shape, but it also gives the illusion of volume. Sometimes I like to put my hair up in a bun, and slowly start yanking out a few layers throughout the hair to give it a lived-in look. We're not looking for sleek, because that will make the hair look flat. The messier, the better!

Loose Waves

Claire Craig

Loose waves look incredible with short hair! And the key to gaining volume? Texture, texture, texture! To get this texture, you're going to want to buy a texture spray, and spray it all throughout your hair. Then scrunch it, flip it upside down, and really tossle it. This will give it volume, and ensure it doesn't look thin.

Textured Pixie

Wes Sharpton

Wes Sharpton, hairdresser at Hairstory, gave us an expert tip if you happen to have short hair that is also fine and curly. He says that you can mix wax and oil and form the coil with a diffuser hair dry to help give the hair some body and texture. This style looks especially good with short hair, styled like above in a super cute textured pixie cut!

Voluminous Curls

Dominique Goncalves

These voluminous curls are achieved by tightly curling the whole head of hair. But the real trick is to tease the roots with a brush. When I had short hair, this was my secret weapon. I would style it with heat, then tease my whole head at the root to ensure it looked full, and didn't fall flat in 30 minutes. Top it off with some hairspray to really hold it all together!

Fun Bow/Scrunchie

Cora Pursley

A good hairstyle that makes your hair look full, even when it's messy, is to use a scrunchy. Tease up the roots once more, and throw it into a low bun with a fun scrunchy. I love the one above, because the large bows make the hair look large and full. This is a lazy-girl approved hairstyle that still makes your hair look put together!

Blunt, Textured Bob

Ajaila Walker

A blunt bob has to be one of my favorite hairstyles ever, but it can be seriously hard to style if you have thin hair. A tip for this is to sleep in little braids or buns. I would take my short hair and twist it up with a clip just a bit before I went to bed, then when I woke up, I had the cutest waves that made my hair look so much more full and voluminous. The messy look, like above, is a 10/10, I'm obsessed with this style.

Claw Clip

Pexels/İlknur Çelik

The easiest style for short-haired girlies with thin hair? Claw clips. These will save your life, especially when your hair gets in that odd, inbetween phase where it's not too long and not too short. You just get a cute claw clip and clip it up into a half-up half-down hairstyle. I like to purposefully push the claw clip up, so it gives a bit of volume in the back of my hair. And voila! All you need for an easy hairstyle to give volume to your otherwise thin, flat hair!

“Amen,” all the Starbucks-frequenting vegans, lactose intolerants, and anti-dairy people said in unison. Starbucks is no longer charging extra for non-dairy milk customizations! Starting November 7, 2024, the coffee giant saidthey’re nixing the up-charge on alternative milks like soy, coconut, almond, and oat.

Starbucks

“At the heart of the Starbucks Experience has, and always will be, the ability to customize beverages and our baristas’ expertise in helping you find, and craft your Starbucks beverage,” a Starbucks announcement reads. “Substituting non-dairy milk in a handcrafted beverage is the second most requested customization from our customers, behind adding a shot of espresso.”

The chain reported that almost half of U.S. customers that pay for non-dairy milk could see a price reduction of more than 10%. The news comes amidst the company's recent 6% drop in sales, along with customer complaints that Starbucks is simply charging too much for their goodies – something the newly-appointed Starbucks CEO, Brian Niccol, seems to be addressing.

Starbucks

How much savings are we really talking about with this menu update? Most Starbucks stores charge $0.70 to customize your drink with soy, coconut, almond, and oat milks. Some locations in hotspots like New York City even see an up to $0.90 upcharge.

A regular Caffé Latte in my area (Denver, CO) costs $5.25, and if I were to customize it with an alternative milk, it brings the price up to $5.95 ($6.43 total with tax). That's around a 13% increase that I luckily won't be seeing anymore once the new non-dairy changes go into effect.

Starbucks also announced the pricing update on their Instagram page. Many commenters seem elated to hear the news.

“FINALLY!!!!!!” one user wrote.

“People should never have been getting charged because of allergies or dietary restrictions,” another person said. “It’s [about] time 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻”

“Good call as long as nothing else goes up,” someone else noted. “Prices are getting way [too] high even for a simple, non fancy coffee.”

Say goodbye to the iconic bob, because Hailey Bieber just flaunted a new hairdo. Of course, the internet just had to equate her returning brunette locks to a type of food — because apparently that’s a thing that needs to happen for every hair and beauty trend now. Bieber debuted “chocolate syrup hair” after posting a mirror selfie on her Instagram story and a video to TikTok. The model opted for a classic blowout, darker brown hue, and mid-length extensions for a fuller and fresher look.

Fans were ecstatic about the switch, with one commenting that this is the “best hair [Hailey’s] had” and another chiming in that “the iconic long hair is finally coming back.” It’s giving us flashbacks to Bieber’s 2022 era, when her deep brown long hair was all over red carpets.

Fans who missed the social media posts took notice of her hair change at yesterday’s Super Bowl, when the Biebers were pictured getting cozy in their VIP Box. Hailey matched the new color shade with a fluffy cheetah print jacket, white top, and mid-wash jeans. Her superstar hubby, Justin Bieber, followed the brown aesthetic with a loose caramel long sleeve adorned with crescent-moons, dark pants, and a black backwards cap.

This is the first time Hailey's sported long hair since she chopped it off back in 2023, making it at least a year since she displayed the chin-length bob heard around the world (we all thought about copying this hairstyle a time or two, let’s be real). The shoulder-grazing cut was actually nicknamed after food too — cinnamon cookie butter hair — due to the range of golden brown and copper undertones.

And now, chocolate syrup hair is just the latest in a slew of beauty trends that the Rhode skincare founder has started. Remember glazed doughnut skin? Strawberry girl and latte make-up? Blueberry milk nails? Okay, so that last one was inspired by Sofia Richie, but it still fits into the ongoing theme here…

The 2018 Met Gala

Hailey was pretty in pink with this 2018 hairdo at the "Heavenly Bodies" Met Gala. The pastel color is really hair to pull off, but leave it to Mrs. Bieber to absolutely slay. While I love her brunette do right now, definitely would love to see her try something more playful like this again!

The 2019 Met Gala

Clearly, Hailey does NOT disappoint when she shows up on the First Monday in May. This super blonde high ponytail is giving Bond girl in all the best ways! Plus, can we talk about the slicked-back hair and bow combo?! 2024 would eat this look up if she wanted to try it again!

2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

We know miss thing rocks a shorter cut, and this blunt bob is no exception. The slick side part pairs so well with her naturally high cheekbones, and her earrings really compliment the length of the cut. 10s across the board!

The 2021 Met Gala

A soft, beachy wave is honestly everything. I love how she pairs this more lax hairstyle with a luxe event like the Met Gala, giving her overall look so much texture and intrigue. Plus, that honey-colored hair was made for an effortless look like this.

2022 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Mirroring her 2021 Met Gala look, Hailey rocked tousled waves again, but with a deeper honey color. The overall styling looks chic, but attainable, subtly inviting everyone to request "The Hailey" at their next appointment.

Hailey took beachy to new heights with this long hairdo. Her waves are slightly more subdued, giving that "I just woke up like this" look we're all still trying to get. I'm so excited to see her back to a darker brown now because this color is absolutely serving!

2023 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

The bob is bobbing — no, but really this iconic bob is next level. It takes her iconic waves and makes them elevated, elegant, and everything I've ever needed. While I'm more than here for her longer hair right now, I hope we get a brunette bob moment again.

Amazon

Per Taylor Jenkins Reid's official website, Atmoshpere is set in the 80s and tells the tale of one woman's journey through space.

Joan Goodwin's love for space has led her to a lovely role as a physics and astronomy professor at Rice University. She splits her time between teaching and bonding with her niece Frances — two things that bring her great joy. But her interested is piqued when she discovers she can possibly join NASA's Space Shuttle program.

Somehow Joan is selected to join and begins building relationships with the other chosen candidates at Houston's Johnson Space Center. Though mostly everyone is kind, mission specialist Lydia Danes isn't interested in rolling out the welcome mat to anyone. Still, this doesn't cause too much friction as they continue training in the program. Joan even finds love in an unlikely place and wonders if she can go back to the life she had before.

Just when the trainees think they've found a nice rhythm, mission STS-LR9 provides the biggest shock no one saw coming.

‘Tis the season for cold temperatures, so if you’ve gotta bundle up, you might as well do it in style. Of course, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice warmth for the look – which is exactly where these trusty wintercoats come in! The winter coat trends on schedule for 2024 truly have range – they vary widely in length, material, and texture, but all look so chic no matter what layers you throw on. These are the winter coat trends you need to know to guide your next cold-weather shopping spree. Betweenbarn jackets and shaggy faux furs, you’re sure to find a style that speaks to you.

Trench + Longline Coats

Reformation

Reformation Matteo Trench

Trench coats definitely give you the most coverage, which is perfect for those extra-cold days. More than anything, they supply major main character energy to any look you plan to wear this season. The longline cut brings the drama!

Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie & Fitch Classic Long Trench Coat

This green trench hosts all the classic details: a double-breasted collar, side pockets, and a tie waist. It's timeless as can be, so you can wear it year after year in endless ways.

J.Crew

J.Crew Wrap Trench Coat

If you dare to make a statement, this bold red trench coat is the piece for you. The thick wool-blend fabric will also keep you super snug.

Barn Coats

Free People

We The Free Denim Barn Coat

Also called barn jackets or chore coats, barn coats bring a sense of utility to your outfits. They're definitely very trendy at the moment, but I think they're worth wearing past this season alone since you can easily layer up or down depending on the weather.

Reformation

Reformation Harrison Utility Jacket

Snag a barn coat in a neutral colorway like this, and you've got yourself an absolute wardrobe staple that wears well with any of the colors in your closet. I'd layer this piece up with a sweater, wide leg jeans, and cowboy boots for a chic tomboy-ish look.

Nordstrom

1.STATE Oversize Cotton Twill Barn Jacket

This barn coat is intentionally oversized, so it'll be perfect for topping off the multiple layers you've gotta rock for those colder-than-cold days. The sleek buttons and contrasting collar spice this clean-cut style up the perfect amount.

Exaggerated Puffers

Urban Outfitters

The North Face 1996 Retro Nuptse Jacket

When it comes to puffer coats, try taking them a step further by finding styles like this that really emphasize the puffiness. The stitching adds eye-catching textures and patterns that'll supply your outfits with extra oomph. This puffer in particular expertly insulates your body heat with 700 down fill – even snow days are no match for its comfort.

Gap

Gap Oversized Denim Puffer Jacket

I've never seen a denim puffer coat before, but now that I've stumbled upon this style from Gap, I need one ASAP. The boxy fit is ideal for piling more layers on, but the silhouette won't entirely drown your figure out.

Free People

Free People Solid Cotton Candy Puffer

This "puffy to the max" coat makes a statement with dramatic balloon sleeves and a stand collar that's perfect for cozying up to when the wind chill is just too much.

Leather Bomber Jackets

Target

Wild Fable Faux Leather Oversized Bomber Jacket

Bomber jackets made in a leather (or in this case, faux leather) fabrication feel much more polished and mature than the polyester ones of days past. They toe the line between dressed-up and casual, which is perfect for when you don't want to think too hard about your winter 'fits.

Free People

We The Free Buckle Up Vegan Leather Jacket

This pick is perfectly oversized to accomodate more warming garments like sweaters, long sleeve tees, and flannels. Layer up!

Anthropologie

Pilcro Oversized Washed Faux-Leather Jacket

This is an undeniable statement coat you can wear on repeat with dresses, skirts, jeans, trousers, and more!

Shaggy + Sherpa Jackets

Mango

Mango Jacket with Shearling-Effect Lining

For a fun play on texture, sherpa-lined and shaggy coats are the way to go. This one is also weighted heavy enough that you won't need many extra layers to keep warm while you're out and about!

Nordstrom

Sam Edelman Faux Shearling Short Jacket

You'll fall in love with just how soft this coat is. It pairs well with more formal party 'fits as well as casual errand get-ups.

Gap

Gap Recycled Faux Fur Coat

No matter what you're wearing underneath, this longline faux fur coat will turn heads. I think it'd look simply iconic with some leather pants and chunky black boots!
