Katy Perry Sent an Actual Olive Branch to Taylor Swift to End Their Feud Once and for All

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift appear to be putting their bad blood behind them. Swift has been sharing behind-the-scenes photos and videos from her Reputation tour rehearsals over the last week, and on Tuesday, opening night of the tour, she showed off something really special: a gift from her onetime rival.

“So I just got to my dressing room and found this actual olive branch. This means so much to me,” the “Delicate” singer said in an Instagram Stories clip, which she captioned, “Thank you Katy.”

The olive branch came with a handwritten note, which is only partially visible in the video. Eagle-eyed fans deciphered the first few lines, though, and they mention Perry wanting to “clear the air” with Swift. “Hey Old Friend — I’ve been doing some reflecting on past miscommunications and hurt feelings between us,” the note begins.

The singers’ feud has been well documented over the years, both in the press and in Swift and Perry’s music, but the “Roar” performer said last year that she was “ready to let it go.”

“I forgive her and I’m sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from her … I love her, and I want the best for her. And I think she’s a fantastic songwriter,” Perry told Arianna Huffington in June. “Maybe I don’t agree with everything she does and she doesn’t agree with everything I do, but I just really, truly want to come together in a place of love and forgiveness and understanding and compassion.”

We’re definitely feeling all of those things right now.

It Ends With Us is no stranger to controversy. The book, and its movie adaptation, follows the story of Lily Bloom (played by Blake Lively in the film), who finds herself surviving a domestic violence relationship when she falls in love with Ryle Kincaid (actor & director Justin Baldoni).

Over the last year, the project has created online conversations around everything from Lily's outfits to Brandon Sklenar's (who plays Atlas Corrigan) red carpet anxiety. And the latest chapter in the drama appears to be between Baldoni and Lively.

What happened between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively?

Fans first noticed something seemed off when it was revealed Blake Lively, Brandon Skelnar, Jenny Slate, and Colleen Hoover don't follow Justin Baldoni on Instagram. Baldoni didn't take photos with the cast at the New York City premiere, and he also hasn't done any of the viral press with his costars. Plus, the fact that Baldoni's onscreen sister Jenny Slate dodged a question about him only makes this whole situation more odd.

While The Hollywood Reporter reveals the cast and crew might have wrapped with two different cuts of the movie, citing creative differences between Baldoni and Lively, the supposed feud might go deeper. A set source just revealed to People that not only have Blake and Justin been at odds, but apparently "the principal cast and [author] Colleen Hoover will have nothing to do with him."

"All is not what it seems," the source continues. "There is much more to this story."

Internet users are speculating that there's been a creative control struggle between Baldoni and Lively throughout the process, especially now that rumors are swirling Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds hope It Ends With Us scores Lively an Oscar nomination. The actress also served as producer and was involved in everything from the script to the inclusion of Taylor Swift's "My Tears Ricochet."

Will Justin Baldoni direct It Starts With Us?

In addition to this video from set, where Lively and Baldoni look like they're in a visionary standoff, Baldoni just revealed he probably won't step back into the role of director if 2022's It Starts With Us is also adapted.

"I think that there are better people for that one," he tells Entertainment Tonight at the August 6 NYC premiere. "I think Blake Lively's ready to direct, that's what I think."

The internet is coming to Baldoni's defense, praising his vulnerable Man Enough podcast. AnIt Ends With Us extra even recounted how kind and attentive he was on set, while sources told The Daily Mail Baldoni was "chauvinistic" and "borderline abusive" during the filming process.

That being said, while Lively has always been praised as an "unproblematic queen," fans of the book wish official press for the movie centered on domestic violence awareness as much as Baldoni's one-on-one interviews do.

On August 13, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Justin Baldoni has hired PR crisis manager Melissa Nathan amid the It Ends With Us drama. Nathan represented Johnny Depp during the 2022 Amber Heard trial.

After It Ends With Us director and star Justin Baldoni went viral for saying he didn't want to direct the potential sequel, It Starts With Us, I started thinking about the It Starts With Us movie. Namely, does It Starts With Us have a movie? While we're definitely getting Regretting You and Verity adaptations, the internet's wondering if we'll see Blake Lively, Brandon Sklenar, and Justin Baldoni onscreen together again — especially after all the It Ends With Us drama. Here's everything you need to know about the sequel, and its potential movie adaptation. Spoilers ahead!

Does It Starts With Us have a movie?

Sony Pictures/YouTube

Sony hasn't confirmed we're getting an It Starts With Us movie yet, and it all depends how well It Ends With Us does at the box office! The movie opened on August 9 and made $80 million around the world during its open weekend.

Justin Baldoni's Wayfarer Studios "has the option" for It Starts With Us, but during the premiere for the movie, the actor and director teased that Blake Lively might want to direct the sequel instead.

Colleen Hoover weighed in, saying she loved working with everyone on the project. "Whoever decides to take charge of the next one would do it justice," Colleen Hoover tells ET. "I think they're all in it for the right reasons."

What is It Starts With Us about?

Amazon

The It Starts With Us book, which was published in October 2022, picks up right after the events of It Ends With Us. Lily and Ryle are divorced and co-parenting their daughter together. History repeats itself when Lily reconnects with Altas again, agreeing to go on a date with him, and Ryle is not happy about it.

In addition to Lily, Atlas, and Ryle, Alyssa and Marshall are featured in the story, as well as a few of Atlas' family members we haven't met yet.

While this sequel centers a bit more on a Lily and Atlas instead of Lily and Ryle's relationship, readers should know there is still some violence in the book from Ryle — once toward Lily and once toward Atlas.

Is It Starts With Us a prequel or sequel?

Sony Pictures Releasing

It Starts With Us is a sequel to It Ends With Us. It serves as a new beginning for Atlas and Lily, as well as Atlas and one of his family members.

Who played Atlas in It Ends With Us?

Sony Pictures Releasing

Brandon Sklenar plays Atlas in the It Ends With Us movie, while young Atlas is played by Alex Neustaedter.

Is there a movie to the book It Ends With Us?

Sony Pictures Releasing

Yes, It Ends With Us is in theaters now! And it looks like the movie could start streaming on Netflix this winter.
