I Messaged Guys on Tinder Using Only Kimmy Schmidt Quotes and This Is What Happened

Recently, I traveled to New York for a work trip. I may live in San Francisco now, but this mecca of finance, culture and fashion moved FAST. I felt a little clumsy ordering my lunch at Dig Inn, and I got a bit lost when I rode the subway for the first time… in the wrong direction. Everyone around me moved with such confidence, while I felt a little like beloved Netflix heroine, Kimmy Schmidt— a very curious child in the big city.

But, like Kimmy, I decided to embrace every bit that New York had to offer. Wake up at 6AM (which is actually 3AM in SF…) to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge from Soho? OKAY! Forgo sleep in order to visit five bars in one night? Let’s do it! Join Tinder at the bequest of my coworkers and message the men of New York using only Kimmy quotes? Sounds like a plan!

On my last day in New York, I joined Tinder. I created a profile using my happiest, go-lucky photos and made my bio read: “Smile until you feel better.” Then I began swiping right. Only right. Because Kimmy wouldn’t discriminate… and neither should I!

Unfortunately, I actually RAN OUT of right swipes. Apparently, I’m *not allowed* to meet and like everyone in New York. My Kimmy-self was really sad because I didn’t want to leave anyone out. Welp! Guess it’s time to talk to my men matches…

The first guy I met had a REALLY nice profile — with a dog! He also had a beard and I thought he looked like a werewolf, so naturally… I went with this Kimmy quote. But then I panicked talking to such a handsome stranger, so I “ghosted” on him. Apparently that’s allowed in online dating. (Vic as Kimmy confession: I felt bad disappearing quite literally on him, but my coworkers told me it was okay).

This yummy-New York guy has SUPER fun clothes, so I let him know! Paying compliments are a sure way to get friends. Fortunately, I left him speechless… but maybe not in the best way.

My bio is working on this guy! He likes my motto about always smiling, and he likes MY SMILE! So sweet. He tried to make plans, but gosh, Friday was so busy with all the new suitors and with my candy plans…

Sometimes Kimmy quotes were very effective. “Hello, sugar balls!” is a REAL Kimmy quote. She has a way with words, that Kimmy. This guy loved the nickname and called me delightful, but then things got weird… So I ghosted away again. Oops!

This guy was NOT having it. Rather than upset him, I said goodbye with “Troll the respawn, Jeremy,” and then he blocked me. Not everyone in New York is nice.

If I wasn’t going to find love on Tinder, at least I could learn more about New York and the world around me. I set off in pursuit of knowledge… but then my Kimmy-cover was nearly blown! This guy and I had mutual friends on Tinder… STRANGER DANGER.

So much potential with this conversation. I was getting super vulnerable by telling him about my new experience in New York, but he never responded. I was ghosted! It’s not much fun.

My coworkers told me the key to finding true love is to find someone with similar interests. Great advice! I found this guy :) :) :)

During my Tinder stint, I got a SUPER LIKE from someone. WHAAAAT. IS. THIS. I love everything about this concept, so I went and I super liked someone. But the story ends there. :(

This guy LOVED my Kimmy quotes. He was never discouraged by the weirdness, and kept trying to make plans. Major points for the continued dedication… now please stop messaging me. I’m on the other side of the country, okaaaay?

Then to mix it up, I tried some Titus quotes. This guy was kinda into it.

Ultimately, I didn’t find love in New York. BUT I discovered that people love Kimmy Schmidt. She’s a bit quirky, but her endless optimism was well accepted on the Tinder platform. I didn’t meet up with anyone because major stranger danger, but I feel like I made some good first acquaintances. Until my next trip to New York, I’ll be watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season two (!!) for more quotes and more life advice from my fave spirit animal.

Until then, troll the respawn, Jeremy!

The show may be called Nobody Wants This, but I definitely do. And I want more. I sat down to watch what I thought would just be a funny show, and I wound up finishing the whole series in one sitting. I didn't even get up for bathroom breaks. It was just that good! Adam Brody and Kristen Bell's new rom-com has to be one of my favorite shows I've seen this entire year for how witty, charming, romantic, and clever it is. Everything about it will have you wishing it would beat out The Bear for Best Comedy, and that's saying a lot. So let's get into 10 reasons why you'll also think it's the best TV show ever.

'Nobody Wants This' has the best TV kiss I've seen in such a long time.

Saeed Adyani/Netflix

Starting off strong, we need to talk about that kiss, especially since everyone's talking about it, and I have to say I understand why. I have a ranking of best onscreen kisses. Among them are Nick and Jess' kiss in New Girl — because obviously — Noah and Allie in The Notebook, I mean I could go on and on. And this one delivered. From the "put your bag down" to the face grab, and the going in for seconds. It was iconic on so many levels.

"In the script, it says, 'It's the best kiss of her life' or 'It's the best kiss of all time' or something," Adam Brody told EW. It definitely was.

The banter is top tier.

Hopper Stone/Netflix

I'm an avid banterer myself. I love some good chit-chat, and witty back and forth. And this show is brilliant when it comes to the funny one-liners and dialogue between the characters. And not just between Noah and Joanne! Sasha and Morgan were hilarious, and Sasha and Esther! Everyone had great banter, I was truly obsessed.

Adam Brody as a hot rabbi — need I say more?

Stefania Rosini/Netflix

In case you didn't know from the endless Tiktok edits and thirst traps being posted of Adam Brody in this show — he plays a hot rabbi. And he delivers. His character is so charming, funny, emotionally secure, and witty, and somehow this character is even more adorable and funny than Seth Cohen. I loved Noah and I think it's about time we get some green flag characters in TV shows! Thanks, hot rabbi!

The chemistry is ~chef's kiss~.

Hopper Stone/Netflix

I have to say I was slightly unsure about these two starring together in a rom-com, because I know them as such iconic characters elsewhere. It was hard to picture anything other than Seth Cohen and Veronica Mars. But once you see their scenes together, you have no choice but to see the undeniable and palpable chemistry between them. It was some of the best on-screen chemistry I've seen in a hot minute.

'Nobody Wants This' is based on a real-life love story.

Hopper Stone/Netflix

The show was written by Erin Foster, who based it on falling in love with her husband in real life. Although he's not a rabbi IRL, she is an opinionated & successful podcaster who fell in love with a Jewish man from a traditional household who was encouraged to marry a Jewish woman. The show outlines their struggles, and what it was like for Erin to enter a community she didn't know much about. She wrote this show as a "love letter" to him and their relationship. And spoiler alert: she converted, and now they're married with a baby! So, this story gets a happy ending IRL too!

If you love The O.C., it's a must-watch.

Hopper Stone/Netflix

Did you know that not only is Seth Cohen, AKA Adam Brody, involved in Nobody Wants This but so is another The O.C.star? The writer of Nobody Wants This, Erin Foster, was in The O.C. for a couple of episodes. She played a character named Heather for the 3rd and 4th season, so it's a reunion of sorts! Some people are even saying Noah is like if Seth Cohen moved to LA and became a rabbi.

The side characters are even better than the main ones.

Hopper Stone/Netflix

Sometimes I'm watching a show with so many side plots and characters that I'm genuinely confused as to what I'm watching (*cough Bridgerton cough*), but I truly enjoyed the side characters in this show. From the sibling banter on both sides, to the crazy parents, and even the WAGs, it was enjoyable all around. They even had you understanding and rooting for the ex-girlfriend to find love too! That never happens!

It's a mature love story.

Adam Rose/Netflix

Unlike most series that center early twenty-somethings navigating life and love for the very first time, this show is about adults who have actually lived some life. The characters are in their mid-to-late thirties, and they've been through many relationships, gained success in their career, and know what they want. There isn't this painfully obnoxious theme of "I don't know who I am or what I want in life" that most romantic comedies showcase for younger characters entering the real world.

I also happened to love Noah and Joanne's decisions. They chose to be emotionally healthy and sound; they didn't make stupid decisions just for the plot. While these characters were a little flawed, I really felt like they were honest, mature, and sound at their core.

It's like someone is reading your innermost thoughts and fears (in a good way).

Adam Rose/Netflix

A few moments in particular stuck a deep chord for viewers. In one scene, Noah tries to get Joanne to reveal her deepest fear in a sex shop while holding some very questionable items (it's a long story), only for her to finally admit it's that, "I will become emotionally dependent on a guy who will one day realize that I’m too much and break my heart.” That. Hit. Deep.

"I often feel like 'Nobody Wants This' because I'm a lot and I'll never change," one fan says on TikTok. "Even though it's just a show, I still believe [love like] this exists."

The show also covers some other pain points like jealousy (in a mature way, because we're adults, right?), exes, and just about everything you can think of. The writers really did a great job with getting to the heart of people and their innermost fears and insecurities.

'Nobody Wants This' was actually filmed in LA.

Sefania Rosini/Netflix

Although a variety of TV shows and movies are set in LA, most film in "Hollywood North," AKA Canada. Because of that, we miss out on iconic Los Angeles hotspots and scenery we'd get if they actually filmed in the city. But lucky for us, this show did actually film in LA! You can spot several famous spots on the East side of Los Angeles like Goldburger, and the Los Feliz Theatre.

  • Outer Banks Season 4 Part 1 finally brings the cast back to the OBX.
  • John B., Sarah, Cleo, Pope, Kiara, and JJ are up against the Kooks — and other treasure hunters.
  • Season 4 feels more grounded and relatable than past seasons, making it a very strong installment.

If you know me, you know I'm a die hard Outer Banks season 1 fan. I binge watched the entire thing with my family in 2020 while quarantining on the real OBX, I joined the Drew Starkey fan club the moment he stepped onscreen, and I was obsessed with JJ and Kiara way before the internet started shipping them. So, needless to say, I've been waiting for Outer Banks season 4 with baited breath — especially when I heard rumors it would focus on JJ (Rudy Pankow) the way previous seasons had focused on John B. (Chase Stokes) in season 1, Pope (Jonathan Daviss) in season 2, and Kiara (Madison Bailey) in season 3.

I think season 1 will always be my favorite, but Outer Banks season 4 part 1 pleasantly surprised me. We're far enough into the show that we really care about the characters, and they have enough history with one another that we're invested in their decisions. Plus, returning to the OBX provided real-world stakes I could relate to as a viewer: family drama, dealing with bullies, and more. No matter whether you really love JJ, or you're always dreaming about your next beach vacation, here's whyOuter Banks season 4 absolutely NEEDS to be your weekend binge. (Serious spoilers ahead!!!)

We're Back On The Outer Banks!

Netflix

FINALLY! After a couple of seasons in the Caribbean and South America, Outer Banks is back, well, on the Outer Banks. Honestly, this automatically makes the season better because it provides a ton of familiarity, nostalgia, and comfort for readers. And it also provides a realistic, grounded aspect to the adventure. Because let's be honest, a group of teens hopping on a tiny plane and taking part in a jungle treasure hunt requires a little too much suspension of disbelief for me. Plus, just like Gossip Girl wouldn't be the same without Blair and Serena hitting up Bergdorf's, a Pogue beach & surfing day just feels right.

The Pogues Open Their Own Shop

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

The first episode of Outer Banks season 4 catches us up on that season 3 time jump. After learning how much money they actually have their hands on, the Pogues move into JJ's old house (renaming it "Poguelandia 2.0"), and open a bait, tackle, and charter shop. While I have a few questions about how six teens literally built a business without the help of a contractor, I love seeing this group lead regular lives. The shop plays into their strengths and allows them to cultivate their relationships in normal settings instead of life-or-death ones. Friendships are made in those boring moments, IMO.

The Pogues And Kooks Are Fighting Again

Netflix

Because so much of Outer Banks season 4 takes place on the OBX, it means John B., Sarah, JJ, Kie, Pope, and Cleo are once again clashing with Topper, Rafe, and the rest of the Kooks. Despite the fact this season features plenty of death-defying stunts, the scene that will stick with me the most is when the Pogues and Kooks wind up at the same beach access.

I audibly gasped when Ruthie, Topper's new girlfriend, plays chicken with the Pogues on the beach, almost hitting Kiara with her Jeep and running over a turtle hatch in the process. (IRL, protecting endangered sea turtles & their hatches are a big deal on the Outer Banks, so this definitely got a visceral reaction from me).

At the end of the day, the major (and arguably, the most painful) conflict of this teen drama is how the Kooks make the Pogues feel like they don't belong anywhere. And if you ask me, exploring this tension and these relationships is where the show truly shines.

The Villains Are Actually Scary

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

That being said, I found the villains this season, Lightner and Dalia, to be way scarier than I expected — especially once Lightner killed Terrance and almost killed Cleo. Every time he showed up onscreen, my heart started pounding like he was chasing me! The thought of being stuck in my bait shop alone with a creepy guy, especially one brandishing a knife? Thank you, next.

The Pogues Are Searching For More Than Blackbeard's Treasure

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

After Outer Banks season 3, the one thing I said I didn't want the show to do was go into supernatural, ghost territory. Turns out, that's exactly where we're going. Wes Genrette and his son-in-law Chandler Groff hire the Pogues to find Blackbeard's treasure, but it doesn't take long for them to realize they're once again in over their heads.

Wes is a direct descendent of Francis Genrette, the man responsible for killing Blackbeard and his wife Elizabeth. Now, Elizabeth haunts every generation of the Genrette family, and once she appears, you don't have long to live. Wes reveals his daughter Larissa (Chandler's late wife) saw Elizabeth a week before she died, and Wes himself has seen her, which means his days are numbered.

Now the Pogues have to find Elizabeth's amulet to break the curse. Their race against Lightner and Dalia brings Pope, Cleo, Sarah, and John B. to Charleston — and leavesPope and Sarah trapped in a crypt as it slowly floods.

Powers At Be Want To Bulldoze The Cut

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

If this show has proven anything, it's that the OBX is far from paradise. This season, some big names are trying to turn The Cut — including Poguelandia 2.0 — into an extension of the wealthier Figure Eight. Things get even more complicated when Hollis, who worked with Ward before he died, wants Rafe to be her financial partner...and then gets his girlfriend Sofia to convince him to sign her contract.

Rafe Could Actually Be Getting A Redemption Arc

Netflix

Drew Starkey admitted after season 1 that he didn't care whether Rafe got a redemption arc, and I agreed at the time. I found the idea of Rafe, who was so driven to please his father he'd literally murder for him, incredibly compelling. Plus, he's been the ringleader of the War on Pogues this whole time, so suddenly making him sympathetic towards them felt like backtracking on his character.

But now that I've seen him with Sofia, the romantic in me is kicking her feet and giggling.

Rafe still has his moments (like saying he'd never date a Pogue after finding out Sofia was from The Cut), but for better or worse, Sofia brings out the best in him. And in the aftermath of Ward's death, and his ultimate wish that Sarah and Rafe would make up, feeling sympathy for the Pogues might be Rafe's way of staying loyal to his dad.

I just want to know how Rafe is going to respond when he finds out Sofia overheard his comments about never dating a Pogue...and then tricked him into signing Hollis' contract. Messy, messy.

Luke Is Back

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

After JJ & Kiara said goodbye to JJ's dad Luke in Outer Banks season 2, he's been totally off the grid. Except, apparently, he hasn't? JJ learns Luke is back when he visits Barracuda Mike, but the father-son bonding quickly takes a turn for the crazy when Luke drops a piece of news that changes everything: he isn't JJ's biological father. Chandler Groff is.

JJ Has Actually Been A Kook This Whole Time

Netflix

JJ's entire character is based around the fact he's proud to be a Pogue. He hates the Kooks and everything they stand for, which is why when Luke reveals he isn't JJ's biological father, and that JJ is related to the Groff/Genrette clan, it totally sends JJ into orbit.

This Kook identity is something he's been running from the entire series — even before Kie had to reassure him that finding the gold didn't make them Kooks — and he's going to have to do some serious soul searching to figure out who he actually is now.

I was wholly sold on the theory Outer Banks 4 would reveal JJ and Sarah were siblings, but this is a pretty good alternative. And who knows? Maybe they're cousins. Fingers crossed JJ doesn't get a deadly visit from Elizabeth's ghost in part 2...

Mysteries and thrillers often tick off a familiar checklist: strained relationships? Check. Shady dealings? Check. A tortured yet empathetic lead? Check. If you found yourself reeling after the end of Presumed Innocent and are hooked on Lady in the Lake, then you absolutely need to make room on your watchlist for Netflix's new Korean mystery thriller (especially if you're waiting for Squid Game season 3). Yes, The Price of Confession features a lead who's accused of murdering her husband (another box on the checklist), but it's shaping up to be a standout because what Ahn Yoon-soo finds when she gets to prison is unlike anything you've seen before.

The Price of Confession Plot

"My husband is dead," says an official Instagram post from Netflix Korea. "I was caught as a suspect. And a woman called witch approached."

When her husband is mysteriously murdered, Ahn Yoon-soo's dreams for a loving family come to a screeching halt. And things only get worse when she's accused of the murder. Surrounded by a memorable cast of characters — her lawyer, the prosecutor, and an inmate the other prisoners call a witch — Yoon-soo has to fight for her freedom and her future.

The Price of Confession Cast

Jung Jaegu/Netflix

Park Hae-soo in Money Heist Korea: JEA

The cast of The Price of Confession includes Jeon Do-yeon as Ahn Yoon-soo, Kim Go-eun as Mo-eun, who has a remarkable ability to read people, Park Hae-soo as prosecutor Baek Dong-hun, and Jin Sun-kyu as Jang Jung-gu, Yoon-soo's lawyer and an ex-boxer.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Waterproof Matte Liquid Eyeliner

It seems like the top-rated liquid eyeliners have one thing in common: they're waterproof. And this option from Anastasia Beverly Hills is no exception to that! Plus, this one claims to be highly-pigmented — which doesn't seem like a reach if you know how good Anastasia Beverly Hills' products are.

P.S. There's no parabens, phthalates, or mineral oils in it.

Sephora

Rounding this list out is this amazingly vegan liquid eyeliner by One/Size! I've already made a case for their setting spray so it doesn't surprise me that this makes other customers happy too. • Phthalates
  • Mineral oil
  • Retinyl palmitate

  • Triclocarban
