We got thinking about magical, dreamy hair for fall and winter weddings and created a look that rivals the mane of a mermaid and the mystique of a unicorn. Ladies, meet the gathered knotted down ‘do — a bridal hairstyle that’s super hackable for the big day and allows you to easily incorporate a burst of pastel color to take your partner’s breath away. Read on to get our inside scoop on tying the perfect hair knot!
STEP 1: ADD A FAUX POP OF COLOR
We chose to add a fun pop of pastel color, but that’s totally optional. If you’re into it, you can easily purchase hair on Amazon — just make sure it’s real hair so you can style and curl it. To make things easier on the big day, opt for one wide set of hair (as demonstrated above) held together by a series of clips to snap easily into your own strands.
At the crown, part your hair and clip in the entire section of your extensions. Opt for curling your faux hair the night before the wedding (like we did) to set the curls and avoid extra work on the big day. When it’s time to say “I do,” curl your actual hair with a large barrel curling iron. Feel free to spray your faux hair as you would your natural strands.
STEP 2: CREATE YOUR FIRST KNOT
If you’ve ever wondered how to get perfectly “knotted” hair that stays, here’s the ultimate hack on how to achieve just that. First, take a section of hair at the crown (leave side bangs out) and form an instant knot by placing your hair in an elastic, but not pulling the hair entirely through.
STEP 3: WRAP IT UP
Next, grab sections of hair from the sides to wrap around the knot you just created. You’ll be wrapping these side sections around the elastic you put in place in order to form the look of an actual knot. This professional technique helps to create authentic-looking knots with loads of volume and staying power.
STEP 4: PIN THOSE STRANDS
Complete the knot by pinning the side strands in place. There you have it — the first dreamy knot is in place!
Step 5: REPEAT THE PROCESS
Repeat the same process again to create a series of knots cascading down the length of your tresses. We created a total of three knots with this ‘do, but most looks would look equally magical with just two.
You can opt to end your knotting here or elevate your look by creating a third knot, like we did above.
The final look is a swoon-worthy succession of knots. Enjoy as-is or dress up your look even more with a hair accessory.
