Regardless of how you feel about who won Super Bowl 51, you can’t ignore that Lady Gaga’s 2017 Halftime Show was a visual feast for viewers’ eyes. And among the Cirque du Soleil-inspired tricks and pyrotechnics, there was a whole lotta sparkle. Get ready for a deep dive into the “Poker Face” singer’s look that will be sure to have the “Paparazzi” swarming around you, should you try to recreate this look at home.
Gaga’s makeup artist, Sarah Tanno, was inspired by all of the singer’s iconic looks throughout her career and elevated them to new heights (literally). “I wanted her to be able to look at this 10 years from now and have it feel timeless,” Sarah said. Because the eyes (also those Gaga’s Versace looks, TBH) have it, let’s start there. Sarah used all Marc Jacobs Beauty products and started the look with Twinkle Pop Stick Eyeshadow Stick ($28) in Au Revoir 406, a pewter shade for a base to the shimmery eye look. Next, Sarah used a blend of darker purple shades to contrast the pink with About Last Night Style Eye-Con No 20 Palette ($99) and Style Eye-Con No 7 Palette ($59) in 202 in the crease.
She highlighted Gaga’s brow bone with the lightest shade in the No 7 eyeshadow palette, Lover 220. She added definition to Gaga’s eye with Highlighter Gel Eye Crayon ($25) in Blacquer 42 along the lash line, creating that dramatic wing. She topped the line off with Magic Marc’er Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner ($30) to create a dramatic cat eye and finished off the look with several coats of Velvet Noir Mascara ($26) on the top lashes and Feather Noir Mascara ($24) along the bottom lashes. This was all hiding under the rhinestone mask that Gaga ripped off halfway through her set in the most impressive on-stage makeup change ever.
On her lips, the singer wore Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Créme Lipstick ($30) in Dashing 206 with Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Gloss Lip Lacquer Lipgloss ($28) in 322 Hot Hot Hot, a bright fuchsia shade, on top.
Lady Gaga’s hair stylist, Frederic Aspiras, used Matrix Biolage R.A.W. and Matrix Style Link collections to make sure the singer’s hair was blonde, bright and flowy. Guess what? He shared his tips with Brit + Co. After washing and conditioning with Matrix Biolage R.A.W. Recovery Shampoo ($25) and Matrix Biolage R.A.W. Re-Hab Mask ($30), Aspiras applied Matrix Style Link Mineral Airy Builder Dry Texture Foam ($18) from Gaga’s roots to her tips.
Next, you’d section hair accordingly and blow dry using a large boar bristle brush. Spray Matrix Style Link Heat Buffer ($18) to each section as you dry. Layer Matrix Style Link Smooth Setter ($18) to the mid-section and ends to add that extra hold and smoothness. Once the hair is dry, curl the top and sides of the head using a medium barrel curling iron. Curl the back of the head using a large barrel curling iron. Pin the curls with clips as you go. Allow the curls to cool for about 10 minutes.
Remove clips and brush out with a large paddle brush, then spray Matrix Style Link Texture Builder Messy Finish Spray ($18) to the whole head then finger comb the curls to style them. When you’re finished, give the look a good shot of Matrix Style Link Style Fixer Finishing Hairspray ($18).
Voilà! Though, custom Versace costumes are not included.
