Lauren Conrad on Her New Kohl’s Collection and Why She Avoids “High-Maintenance Clothing”

Lauren Conrad’s newest Kohl’s collection just dropped — and it’s proof positive that style doesn’t have to come at the expense of comfort. In addition to redesigning all the LC Lauren Conrad jeans to have a consistent fit and tons of stretch, the California-born boss lady is also set to launch a cozy loungewear-inspired line this September called LC Lauren Conrad Weekend Collection. Stylish and snuggly? We had to know more. We caught up with Lauren at her New York City preview to get the details.

Brit + Co: So what was your biggest inspiration for these lines?

Lauren Conrad: Well, denim is a relaunch — we wanted to re-look at how we were doing denim and start with a clean slate. Every season we were updating and changing, but we wanted to create a line that had consistency in the fit and to look at the fabrics and washes to make sure we had the most updated styles; so it’s kind of a refresh. For the weekend line, we wanted a way to introduce some ultra cozy, soft fabrics, as well as relaxed fits into the collection so you could wear pieces in your everyday wardrobe or head-to-toe as a loungewear look.

B+C: And what’s inspiring your own style right now?

LC: Honestly, its the weather! Whatever won’t leave me sweltering dictates my wardrobe. I’m loving linen and all these great summery fabrics that are having such a moment right now.

B+C: How has your style changed since becoming a mom?

LC: It’s become a little more relaxed. I’m definitely avoiding things that are high-maintenance as far as clothing, whether it’s how they fit or how they wash. I don’t want to be really worried about my clothes throughout the day. I work from home most days, so if it’s my lunch break and I’m hanging out with my kid, I don’t want to be worried about ruining a piece of clothing. He’s just past a year, so it’s just a lot of trying to avoid spills!

B+C:What specifically were you looking to improve upon with the denim redesign?

LC: We wanted to make sure it felt fresh and updated and that there was consistency in the fit throughout. So across the different washes and styles, the “block” on top (the waist and hip area) is the same — so if you buy a pair and you really like the fit, you can look at different styles and you’ll have that consistency. Because a lot of times you’ll shop a line, and find something you like, but then you buy it in another wash and it fits totally different. The jegging and the super skinny are a little more stretchy, but the top fit is the same.

B+C: Are there any denim trends you never want to see come back?

LC: I’m usually going for fit instead of trend. I think there were certain trends like the capri that would cut you off halfway or ultra low-rise denim that were difficult to pull off and I’m ok if those don’t come back.

B+C: Whats the most you’ve ever paid for a pair of jeans?

LC: Probably like $200? But I haven’t done that in a while!

B+C: The September collection is weekend inspired. Whats your typical weekend look?

LC: I think it depends on what I’m doing but it’s very relaxed. I wear a lot of denim but right now it’s pretty toasty so I’m not wearing as much. I have, actually, a go-to pair of white denim overalls that I’m super into right now. I think they’re technically a maternity pair but they’re so comfortable I don’t even care! I’ve been wearing them because we go to Sunday concerts in the park or even over a bathing suit — it’s easy just to throw them on. It’s that or easy sundresses right now.

B+C: The Weekend Collection is great for travel— whats do you pack for a weekend trip?

LC: I haven’t taken a weekend trip in a very long time! If I’m packing for a couple of days, I’m just packing separates that I can mix and match. I never check a bag unless I absolutely have to! Like I’m wearing these jeans again tomorrow on the plane — they are super soft and stretchy. I normally just wear leggings unless it’s a very stretchy denim because the worst is when you have to unbutton your denim on the airplane, then you forget that you’ve done it and you feel like a real fool.

When you wake up and get dressed in the morning, the last thing you want to do is make yourself look older. Yet, certain colors have a way of adding years to our appearance without us even realizing it.

While some shades can enhance natural beauty and give you a vibrant glow, others might just make you appear more mature.

Here are the colors that may be aging you so you can steer clear (and have an excuse to give your closet a refresh).

Scroll to find out which colors are actually making you look much older!

1. Neutral Beige

Askar Abayev

Open up TikTok, and you'll find that neutral colors, especially beige, are totally "in" among younger generations. From camel wool coats to tan accessories, these warm hues are considered classic and refined.

However, they also have the potential to make you look older than you are. Shades like beige can wash out your complexion, giving you a flat or lifeless appearance.

To avoid getting bogged down by your own clothing, try mixing beige with bolder and richer tones, like navy or deep jewel shades.

2. Too Much Gray & Black

RF._.studio

We all know that black is generally considered the most flattering clothing color. Its darkness helps smooth out our silhouettes and hide imperfections that lighter colors, like white, would immediately call attention to.

But even though both black and gray are extremely versatile and easy to mix and match, wearing too many dark hues can create harsh contrasts and cast sharp shadows on your face that inadvertently highlight fine lines and wrinkles.

The key is to soften your outfits whenever you can by incorporating warmer tones. If you're wearing a black or gray blouse, for instance, layer a brighter cardigan or blazer on top.

Also, the type of black hue you choose does matter. Those with fairer skin tones should opt for a softer charcoal black, which results in a less jarring contrast.

3. Soft Pastels

SHVETS production

Now that we're rounding the corner on spring, you may have plenty of pastel garments in your closet just waiting to be worn. Unfortunately, you might want to think again.

Even though pastels give off a fresh aesthetic, they're not always the best choice if you're going for a youthful look. The lighter tones can emphasize eye changes as you get older– such as pigmentation of the eyelids and a duller appearance of the sclera or the white part of your eye– and make your eyes appear sunken.

That's why it's advised that you stick with slightly deeper or richer tones to complement your complexion.

4. Monochromatic Outfits

Polina Tankilevitch

Finally, monochromatic outfits are also back in style, but wearing the same color from head to toe might make you look more mature.

The key to appearing youthful is being thoughtful about contrast. You can still look sleek while mixing in different shades. Pairing a cream sweater with deeper tones, like a mocha skirt or boots, will add a lot more depth.

And if you ever feel like your outfits are falling flat, remember that accessories are your best friend. A bold scarf, baseball cap, fun purse, or statement necklace will instantly help your look feel more dynamic and lively.

Enough chatter about what's outdated or overrated! We could hyper-focus on this all day long, but we'd rather talk about which fashion trendsshould be in your closet in 2025. With the help of Stitch Fix's stylist Jessica Sockel and Amy Ekren, stylist as well as owner of Inherit Clothing, we've got an inside look at the easiest styles you can make work with what you already own.

P.S. Some of these trends are making a comeback from last year!

7 fashion trends you definitely need — and are easy to style — this year!

Anthropologie

1. The Bridgerton Effect

Are you sick of hearing about Bridgerton? We're not and it seems like others want to take a page from the franchise's style book. Jessica Sockel says, "The show’s romantic, whimsical aesthetic appeared to inspire our clients [Stitch Fix] with requests for “coquette” styles up 100% compared to last year."

Meshki

2. Timeless, Structured Dresses

Fashion trends are always fun when they feel timeless and Amy Ekren predicts we'll continue seeing styles that mirror this. "Clean lines and simple shapes will be popular, but with interesting details like pleats, asymmetry, or unique necklines. No one wants to feel like they’re trying too hard, and structured pieces make a statement without being loud," she says.

Try this style: Meshki Taylor Draped Crepe Midi Dress

Abercrombie & Fitch

3. Neutrals and Soft Earth Tones

Somehow our mothers were right — neutrals are beautiful (and easy) to style. With trends like mocha mousse taking center stage in the fashion and home decor industries, Ekren says we'll be seeing it all year because "neutrals make it easier to build a wardrobe that feels cohesive instead of trendy."

She also draws attention to shades like "warm, muted tones like oat, clay, and soft olive" that "will take over in 2025." Why? It's simple: she feels "they’re easy to style, feel sophisticated, and work for every season."

Try this style: Abercrombie & Fitch Ribbed Collared Cardigan

MANGO

4. Practical Layers

Lean in close. You're ready to stop feeling swallowed by your coats aren't you? Ekren says, "People are moving away from oversized puffers and leaning into more tailored outerwear. Cropped wool coats, quilted jackets, and fitted trenches will be everywhere. There will be more functional style."

Try this style: MANGO Double-Breasted Cotton Trench Coat

Gigi Pip

5. Western-Inspired

Did you think the cowgirl era was over? It's clearly not because shows like Yellowstone are making us want to tap into our inner 'yeehaw' this year with a slight upgrade to traditional silhouettes. Sockel says, "Western charm will continue to be popular in 2025 and evolve to incorporate a refined edge. Denim-on-denim, barn jackets and barrel-leg jeans (which have already surged 2,925% in client searches compared to last year) will become wardrobe staples."

And if you thought "suede and fringe" were long buried in time, Sockel says "requests have also increased by 25% since last year" which is "cementing this trend's staying power" in Stitch Fix's eyes. It's to the point where she's seeing "82% of stylists" agreeing that "cowboy boots and feminine dresses will be a client favorite." We guess it's time to break out our cowboy hats!

Try this style: Gigi Pip Teddy Cattleman

GAP

6. 'Skinny' Silhouettes

We know — who decided to bring back the 'skinny' trend? We're just as shocked as you are, but Sockel's seeing an increased interested in it. "Rumor has it skinny jeans are staging a comeback. While wide-leg jeans remain the most requested silhouette, 2025 is set to spotlight elevated night-out looks featuring bold prints and unexpected shapes—a vibe Stitch Fix is calling the "Corner Booth" trend."

Her suggestion? "Picture faux leather skinny jeans paired with a cut-out top and animal print booties, which saw a 400% spike in client searches between June and September 2024."

Try this style: GAP High Rise True Skinny Jeans

Old Navy

7. Minimalism

Overall? Ekren says, "Less is definitely more next year, but not in a boring way. I see minimalist style leaning toward higher-quality fabrics and well-placed accents, like subtle embroidery or textured fabrics."

You can still have fun with this trend even though it's not full of statement pieces. Ekren believes "simple doesn't have to mean plain" and we couldn't agree more!

We've been teasing news surrounding Emily Henry's newest book Great Big Beautiful Lifesince last year partly because her enthusiasm made us want to learn everything we can about it. Fortunately, we're not the only ones because Cosmopolitan just shared an exclusive excerpt from its pages!

All it's doing is making us want to do is watch two writers fall in love while they unravel the enigma of the personality they may get a chance to profile. Ready to feel your heart racing as you get a glimpse of their personalities?

Here's A Preview Of The 'Great Big Beautiful Life' Excerpt

Amazon

The excerpt starts off with Alice's POV as she's assessing Hayden's aloof nature. She says, "He can’t be as bad as he seems. And even if he is, it’s not like we’ll be spending time together," as they make their way to the Grande Lucia Resort they'll be lodging at (via Cosmopolitan).

There's an air of excitement surrounding Alice, but Hayden appears like he could care less about her enthusiasm based on these lines: "I glide back onto the mostly empty four-lane road that connects the mainland and Little Crescent and slow to a stop at a red light. Hayden’s in the next car over. He notices me too. I wave. He frowns."

While he does eventually talk to her, it's not like he's looking to be besties with his competition. From gruffly offering Alice a choice of days to interview Margaret Ives to lamenting the fact her hotel room is right next to his, Hayden doesn't seem like the kind of writer who's looking to be distracted. It could have everything to do with him feeling like he was "strung along for a month before even finding out" he and Alice would be in competition to secure the position of writing Margaret's biography.

It's apparent Alice Scott and Hayden Anderson aren't on friendly terms towards the beginning of Great Big Beautiful Life, but the excerpt Cosmopolitan's obtained paints a vivid picture of their enemies-to-lovers troupe. Though it's one of the most familiar book trends, Emily Henry refreshes it by adding the element of surprise to the novel's undertones. Lurking the two writers interactions with each other and the elusive Margaret Ives are hidden secrets that are ready to burst at their seams.

A big ol’ Bavarian pretzel is the center of a massive buzz among Aldi shoppers right now. Fans across the internet cannot stop raving about the $7 frozen find, and many say it’s a total 10/10. Since we’re always on the hunt for the latest and greatest groceries, we just had to share this one that carb lovers can’t afford to miss.

Scroll on to discover the frozen snack Aldi fans are simply obsessed with!

Aldi

The frozen find in question is the Bavarian Beast Pretzelfrom Milwaukee Pretzel Company. Described as the “perfect appetizer for gatherings,” this snack is crafted using a traditional German recipe. It’s also free from preservatives, artificial ingredients, and added sugars.

The best part about it, though? The fact that it’s huge. It easily feeds 3-6 people!

Milwaukee Pretzel Company

Soft pretzels are one of those foods that’s hard to hate. When you’ve got a luscious, bready twist covered in chunky salt, how could you possibly go wrong? Knowing this, it’s no surprise that Aldi fans had a hoot with the Bavarian Beast Pretzel once it hit shelves.

“This monster was delicious!!” one Reddit user commentedin r/Aldi. “It took my boyfriend and I two days to eat it and we enjoyed every bite. 😂”

“Had to buy another one,” another person said. “It’s pretty damn good for $6.99.”

“100% top five things we've ever gotten from Aldi,” one more Redditor announced.

Reddit

Compared to the classic Super Pretzel (AKA a freezer mainstay of our childhoods), shoppers say this Aldi version is “superior” and the difference between the two is “night and day.” It comes together super quick in the oven, too.

Shoppers are prepping their pretzels with everything from honey butter and bacon grease to cinnamon-sugar and homemade beer cheese – yum!

Reddit

With plenty of users saying their stores were sold out of the Bavarian Beast Pretzel, you should absolutely stock up if you’re interested in trying it for yourself. As one Aldi shopper warned: “Grab multiple if they have any left!”
