Lauren Conrad Reveals the Major Difference Between Her Plus-Size Clothing Collection and Everyone Else

Lauren Conrad’s empire knows no limits. Her line of clothing and accessories is killing it at Kohl’s, offering her signature pretty, polished style to the masses. And as of September 7, the LC Lauren Conrad Runway Collection is officially branching out into plus size — a move that’s guaranteed to make a lot of ladies very happy. Featuring everything from clothing, now in sizes 0-3X, to shoes, jewelry, handbags, and sunnies, the aptly titled “Downtown Glam” channels a street-style/girls’-night-out vibe. We sat down to chat with the style star and girlboss to hear more about it.

Brit + Co: Your last Runway collection was festival inspired. How did you decide on “Downtown Glam” as the theme this time around?

Lauren Conrad: We really just wanted to have more fun with this collection. Typically we do a romantic vibe with the line and this one is a little cooler with trends like shine, crushed velvet, and suede that all feel really current. (Photo via Kohl’s)

B+C: What made you decide to finally expand into plus? Was this something customers have been asking for?

LC: Customers had asked for it for a while now and we are super excited to roll it out with Runway. Thrilled, actually! (Photo via Kohl’s)

B+C: What do you think this collection brings to the plus market that maybe wasn’t there before?

LC: We did a lot of research for plus and one thing I felt that was missing from the market was current trends. We wanted to make our collection for everyone — not change the pieces but make them the same as the regular collection. The point was to be inclusive. (Photo via Kohl’s)

B+C: So are the apparel pieces extended-size versions of the main range or are the designs tweaked? And are the accessories sized for plus, as well?

LC: The designs are very slightly tweaked for fit but generally they’re all the same. The accessories aren’t tweaked but we’ve always made a point to create jewelry that’s always expandable and includes extenders. (Photo via Kohl’s)

B+C: Blogger Loey Lane is featured in the campaign for the plus collection. How did you decide on her to represent this launch?

LC: We went through a lot of options and we narrowed it down to a few. Ultimately, we felt Loey is very much on brand for us. She’s adorable with great energy and just someone we were super excited to have as a part of this. (Photo via Kohl’s)

B+C: Okay, we know you love it all, but do you have a favorite piece from the line?

LC: I always pick a dress that I love. This midi dress, with the ruffle along the top and the nipped-in natural waist, is probably my top pick. It comes in solids and prints and is just really versatile. You can wear to a wedding, to dinner, or happy hour. But I always gravitate to dresses; they’re just fun. (Photo via Kohl’s)
