‘Riverdale’ Star Lili Reinhart Reveals the Heartbreaking Way She Used to Deal With Acne

As one of the breakout stars of Riverdale, Lili Reinhart is still getting used to life in the spotlight. But the actress has been refreshingly honest with fans about her life behind the scenes, even when the subject is not so glamorous — like her battle with anxiety and her skin issues. In a new interview with Seventeen, Reinhart opened up about her cystic acne, and what she said will totally break your heart.

The Galveston actress told the magazine that she developed “really bad acne” in 7th grade, sharing that she “developed slight body dysmorphia.” She added, “when I would break out, I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror for a couple of months at a time. I remember doing my makeup before school in the dark, which is an awful idea, but it’s because I didn’t want to see myself in that bright light.”

And even though she’s a fan of some of our favorite drugstore beauty buys, she still has cystic acne. As acne sufferers know all too well, zits rarely go away when the teen years are over. Reinhart says that she still faces breakouts, and at times her skin has kept her from leaving the house. “Sometimes when I have a breakout it triggers me back to that time when I was a teen and I feel so self-conscious — like the whole world is looking at my bad skin. I’ve definitely not gone out of the house because of a breakout, which is horrible.”

But she tries to be gentle with her skin, reminding herself that her body is still changing. “I’m still growing up — my body’s still changing. Maybe my acne will go away eventually, but for right now, I try to acknowledge it [like in my] Instagram stories when I’m wearing pimple cream on my face. And poke fun at it in a way, as much as I can. At the end of the day, I tell myself that if I’m walking down the street or having lunch, other people don’t give a shit what my skin looks like — it’s just me, who cares?”

Stassi Schroeder may look picture-perfect when appearing on her reality series Vanderpump Rules, but beneath that seemingly flawless complexion, she wants us to know that she’s every bit as human as the rest of us.

The Straight Up With Stassi podcast host took to Instagram stories over the weekend sans cosmetics to let fans in on a little secret: She actually suffers from psoriasis. “The psoriasis situation is not on fleek,” she said in the accompanying post video. “If anybody else suffers from this and gets it on their face, I’m with you.”

She reiterated her statements with her caption, saying, “If you suffer from Psoriaris, you ain’t alone. Sh*t sucks.”

It’s not the first time she’s opened up about the topic: Back in 2015, she shared a similar selfie while letting fans in on her big beauty secret: Ultra HD Make Up Forever Foundation ($43).

“So many of you ask what makeup I use because It “looks” like I have flawless skin,” she wrote at the time. “I don’t. And these patches are an f-ing b*tch to cover up and make me feel ugly all the time… Feel beautiful today, girls. We all have our issues.”

As she told Bravo in a subsequent interview, it’s important for her to be open with her viewers about her looks. “Because I know if I go on another girl’s blog or if I’m looking at her Instagram — I stalk tons of female celebrities too — I don’t like feeling bad about myself,” she shared. “I don’t like when people pretend everything’s perfect, it’s not… And I don’t like when women feel insecure, and I don’t want them to ever look at me and feel that way so that’s why if I need to talk about my psoriasis or the fact that I’m wearing pairs of Spanx, fine.”

Her sentiments echo that of Lorde’s, who shared her own struggles with acne just last week. Kudos to both ladies for showing us all that even with our perceived “flaws,” we’re still beautiful in every way!

It seems like people will post anything online without fear of consequences — and Sydney Sweeney has clearly had enough of it. After really invasive images of her in a bikini at home leaked to the press, a ton of hateful comments swarmed about the state of Sydney's body. The Euphoriaactress took to Instagram, calling out the plethora of hate and body-shaming in her comments...all without actually saying (or writing) a thing. Instead of letting her haters win, she let their words — and her muscles, TBH — speak for themselves.

See how Sydney Sweeney responded to all the body shamers below!

www.instagram.com

On December 12, 2024, photos of Sydney Sweeney wearing a bikini (in her own backyard) leaked to the press and spread like wild fire. It's clear the photos are super zoomed in, insinuating that paparazzi were eyeing her backyard from afar to get the shot of Sydney in her private home.

As if that wasn't awful enough, trolls took to the comments section of each article to body shame. Some comments call her hateful names like a "butterface" and "slimphat," while others inquire whether or not she's pregnant. If you're thinking this is very reminiscent of the 2000s tabloid heyday, you'd be right. We all grew up with this kind of invasive paparazzi, and while there's been pushback to a degree, it's unfortunately been normalized over time.

Thankfully, Sydney Sweeney decided she's not here to let this behavior remain normal in her life. Instead of posting a lengthy caption, or responding to every single troll in the comments section, Sydney made one very powerful video that says it all. The post opens up with screenshots of the horrible comments people made about her over the last few days — including their usernames — as the video flips through hateful message after hateful message. The video then cuts to Sydney in the gym, clearly training for her upcoming movie where she plays renowned boxer, Christy Martin.

With this single post, Sydney proved her strength in more ways than one. She proved that she's in great physical shape, with the ability to do (and crush) intense workouts left and right. She proved that she won't let these insensitive words bring her down. And she proved that she won't let haters hide in plain sight anymore — if you're gonna say something about her, she's putting your username on blast for her 23 million followers to see.

Now, not only do those body-shaming weirdos look dumb for calling her fat — and whatever other ways they tried to bring her down — but they also have their names attached to their words. And I, for one, am more than here for it. Go Sydney!

(PS: Let's leave celebrity's backyards off-limits, okay paparazzi?!)

When it comes to acne, no one is immune — not even celebrities. If your skin problems are stubborn enough, it doesn’t really matter how much fame or money you have: Just ask Kendall Jenner, who clapped back at haters who criticized her skin on the red carpet, and now, Lorde.

The 21-year-old took to Instagram stories recently to sound off about the topic, and honestly, we can relate.

After highlight her problem areas with “magical tones,” she got real about her skin condition, saying, “For real though, acne sucks.”

She also let it be known that those “helpful” solutions people try to offer? Not so helpful. “Know what also sucks? When you’ve had acne for years and years and years, done all the drugs, tried all the things, and people are still like, ‘You know what worked for me? Moisturizing! Make a mask out of honey and Greek yogurt and avocado! All you need to do is buy an apricot scrub. Coconut oil. The secret is coconut oil.”

She concluded her mini rant by saying, “And the very worst one of course, is when people think you’re just dirty. ‘Do you wash your face?’ It’s like, YES, I wash my face, I’m just genetically cursed!”

It wasn’t all doom and gloom, however. The “Green Light” singer let fans know that not only were they not alone, they would make it through — together.

“For anyone out there who’s got bad skin, and actual bad skin, not just kind of bad skin you could just use the fancy cream on for a few days and it’ll get better, I feel your pain. We’ll get there, we will — I promise.”
