Sorry 'Ratatouille' Fans, Josh O'Connor Won't Be Starring In A Live-Action Remake

josh o connor live action ratatouille

Ever since Josh O'Connor broke into the cultural consciousness in this year's Challengers, and the internet realized he looks exactly like Linguine from Disney Pixar's Ratatouille, fans have been calling for the Knives Out 3 actor to join a live-action remake. If you ask me, it makes perfect sense. Josh has fantastic physical comedy, but he also possesses an earnestness the role would require. Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter finally weighed in on those live-actionRatatouille rumors...just not with the answer we were hoping for.

Andreas Rentz/Getty Images

When asked whether we'd finally see Josh O'Connor as Linguine, Pete Docter told Time he's not a huge fan of live-action remakes. “This might bite me in the butt for saying it, but it sort of bothers me,” he says. “I like making movies that are original and unique to themselves. To remake it, it’s not very interesting to me personally.”

Not only is it a new story, but a live-action version of this story in particular would require the audience to watch CGI rats...TBH, that doesn't sound very appealing. "So much of what we create only works because of the rules of the [animated] world," Pete Docter adds.

So, unfortunately, not only are we not getting a live-action Ratatouille, but we also won't see Up, The Incredibles, or Inside Out.

"So if you have a human walk into a house that floats, your mind goes, 'Wait a second. Hold on. Houses are super heavy. How are balloons lifting the house?'" he says. "But if you have a cartoon guy and he stands there in the house, you go, 'Okay, I'll buy it.' The worlds that we’ve built just don’t translate very easily."

Walt Disney Studios/Pixar

That being said, we're still in for an incredible line-up from Pixar! Pete Docter revealed to Entertainment Weekly that there's an Inside Out TV show coming to Disney+, as well as Toy Story 5.

Foodies and TV show fans alike are in for a treat because not only is The Bear season 3 streaming now, but The Bear season 4 has already filmed! On March 14, Deadline reported that Jeremy Allen White's hit show was secretly renewed for a fourth season (sneaky, sneaky!). Not only has it been renewed, but season 4 filmed back-to-back with season 3, which premiered June 26 on FX and Hulu. Given the popularity of The Bear cast and all their new projects (Inside Out 2! Fantastic Four!), I am definitely not complaining. Here's everything you need to know about The Bear season 4.

Will there be season 4 of The Bear?

Chuck Hodes/FX

Yes, The Bear season 4 is on its way! FX renewed the series ahead of the season 3 release so that both seasons can film back-to-back. While some fans are wondering if this means season 4 of The Bear will be the final season (which is what happened with Donald Glover's Atlanta), this filming schedule could also be a way to ensure the senior season isn't delayed. Because The Bear cast is booking so many new projects, filming season 4 in 2024 means we should be able to see it in 2025. If you ask me, The Bear is one show that could run for at least six seasons, if not more!

During the press conference for season 3, the cast talked started teasing season 4. "We did something like [filming back-to-back]," Jeremy Allen White says (via Decider), while Ayo Edebiri adds, "Yeah, a little version of it, sort of. But not exactly...Is that helpful for journalism?"

"You’ll have to find out!" Abby Elliot says.

When will The Bear season 4 come out?

Chuck Hodes/FX

Even though they've already filmed The Bear season 4, we probably won't see it until summer 2025. Every season of The Bear so far has released in June (season 1 released in 2022, season 2 in 2023, and season 3 in 2024), so we're hoping The Bear season 4 will premiere in June 2025. By filming seasons 3 and 4 together, they'll be able to get all the filming done so season 4 is totally ready by the time they want to release it.

Who will be in The Bear season 4 cast?

FX

Since they filmed season 3 and season 4 of The Bear back-to-back, it's safe to assume all our favorite stars will return! The Bear cast includes Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliott, Matty Matheson. Fingers crossed we get to see guest stars like Will Poulter, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Sarah Paulson again!

What is the plot line of The Bear?

Chuck Hodes/FX

Seasons 1 of The Bear follows Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), who returns to Chicago to take over his late brother's restaurant The Beef. There's ton of friction when he doesn't fit in with the rest of the kitchen, but with newcomer Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and his sister Natalie (Abby Elliott), they set out to turn The Beef into a brand new restaurant that will change the Chicago food scene forever.

Season 2 is all about the team renovating the restaurant into something upscale and chic, while season 3 follows their first few months open.

When is season 3 of The Bear streaming?

As much as I'm in the SydCarmy camp when it comes to romantic relationships on The Bear (I’m so sorry to all the Carmy x Claire shippers), there’s one friendship in the hit FX show that I think outshines the rest. While Fak and Sugar perfectly complement each other, and Tina and Ebra are on exactly the same page, Richie and Sydney have become my favorite friendship on The Bear.

FX/Hulu

What starts on a very rocky foundation at the beginning of The Bear season 1, due to poor communication and knowing exactly how to push each other's buttons, a frustrating coworker situation quickly evolves into a friendship with mutual understanding and respect.

"I love the relationship between Sydney and Richie," one Reddit user agrees. "Their characters are avatars for progress and tradition so it makes sense that they would argue, but you can also see it in the moments they share when they're not arguing...They exert an interesting push-pull dynamic on Carmy who's still too caught up in dealing with trauma from his old job and his brother's death to really parse out what he wants from each of them and become the leader the kitchen needs."

Do they still get on each other's nerves? Absolutely. But instead of yelling at each other (or, you know, threateningly holding up giant steak knives), Richie and Sydney understand one another. They're able to provide advice or comfort when they see the other upset, like Richie apologizing to Sydney when his and Carmy's fighting gets under her skin, or Sydney telling Richie everything will be okay when his front of house speech is rockier than normal.

Ayo Edebiri/Instagram

And the fact that Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ayo Edebiri have a similar friendship in real life (like the fact Ebon texted her "Every birthday is a small death" on her birthday)? That’s just the cherry on top.

What is your favorite relationship on The Bear? Do you think Richie and Sydney make a good pair? Let us know all your thoughts on The Bear on Facebook!
