3 New Makeup Essentials You Should Try This Weekend

Another week in the books, y’all! Congrats. It’s FriYAY and I’m sure we’re all welcoming the weekend with open arms — and open minds when it comes to what makeup to wear this weekend. Whether you need to take things to the next level tonight after you leave the office (hello, bronzey shimmer) or want your eyelash game to be *on point* with a new mascara, we’ve got you covered. Just make sure you set your alarm clock for brunch on Sunday — you have a standing appointment with bacon + your besties, right? Here’s what three makeup essentials you should wear this weekend:

what makeup to wear friday night: your desk-to-dinner look

If you haven’t heard of Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Bricks ($46), you need to pay attention. They’re one of the best multi-purpose products out there if you ask me. A Shimmer Brick of your color choice (there are a bunch of different shades) will be your savior on Friday when you’ve gotta step up your game from office-appropriate to a nighttime look. You can add definition to your eyes (the dark shades work well wet as eyeliner), highlight the high points of your face and use the pinkier shades to warm up your cheeks. Yas.

what makeup to wear saturday night: your night o.u.t. look

Eyelashes are everything to some people. They can really change your entire look, and when it comes to a big night on the town, many people think the bigger + bolder, the better. That’s what you’ll get with the new L’Oreal Voluminous Superstar Mascara ($11). I’m sure you’ve already heard of (or used) the classic Voluminous mascara, which is a staple in SO many people’s beauty toolkits. This new version has a primer on one end and curved brush on the other to kick your fringe into even higher gear.

what makeup to wear sunday: your brunch with your besties look

Sometimes, the last thing you want to do is put on a whole face of makeup for brunch. It’s nice to have a quick, light makeup routine down for times like this when you want to look fresh-faced but not done-up. The Urban Decay Sheer Revolution Lipstick ($22) is *perfect* for this easy brunch look. It’s sheer enough that you don’t have to worry about messing up the application, but it also gives your lips some healthy color.

Turns out, they’ve been hiding some really impressive deals on groceries in the shadows, but I’m here to shed some light on ‘em. Whole Foods offers savings every week, and I’m fully convinced that my local Whole Foods will be seeing a whole lot more of me from now on.

1. BOGO 50% off packaged soups (Tuesdays)

Tuesdays and Fridays are the main days of the week that Whole Foods offers savings on their groceries. The first amazing deal for Tuesdays is BOGO 50% off packaged soups – perfect for this time of year!

They’ve got every kind of flavor from minestrone and chicken noodle to Italian wedding and broccoli cheddar. Their packaged soups average out at about $9 per 24-ounce tub, so saving 50% on one when you buy one is pretty good, especially for meal prep purposes.

2. $2 off classic and organic rotisserie chickens (Tuesdays)

You can take $2 off two kinds of Whole Foods’ rotisserie chickens every Tuesday. Their classic rotisserie chicken goes for $9 while the organic version sells for $13. I love using rotisserie chicken for soups, sandwiches, wraps, and pastas, so getting a whole chicken to use for recipes all week long for just $7 is so nice!

Sometimes you just do not feel like cooking on a Friday evening after work – that’s where this Whole Foods savings hack comes in! Every Friday, you can get a large cheese pizza for $8. While there’s nothing wrong with a plain cheese pizza (nostalgia galore!), I’d take advantage of this deal then bulk up my slices with various toppings like peppers, pepperoni, and olives.

It’s summer, so it’s hot, sticky, and pretty much the definition of “no-makeup weather.” The problem is that you still want coverage (both for blemishes and for sun protection). Well, Benefit is launching a brand-new lightweight foundation that is as easy and foolproof to apply as your moisturizer.

Hello Happy Soft Blur Foundation ($29), out today, offers coverage ranging from sheer (“I woke up like this”) to medium (“I woke up and applied a quick and easy fix”). The flashback-free formula features face-filtering soft-blur spheres, smoothing shea extract, and an SPF 15 with PA +++ protection against UVA. Offered in 12 shades (three for lighter tones, five for medium, and four for deep), the line has a lot of wiggle room for those in-betweeners thanks to its neutral undertones.

It’s meant to be applied like you would moisturizer or a sunscreen — just slather on and go, no mirror required. The packaging’s needle-nose tip releases just a drop, which is all that’s needed for sheer coverage. If you need more, squeeze out another (or another).

Right about now, you’re thinking, “Another foundation? Do I really need it?” We get it, so we put the formula to the test by asking women in our office to see just how easy and flattering it truly is. The feedback has us saying, “Helloooo, Hello Happy.”

Every volunteer praised the product for its ability to melt into her skin. “Beautiful,” said our tester who applied shade 12. “It’s a perfect match and doesn’t look like I’m wearing anything.”

Hello Happy also won over our group for its feel. “It felt very light on my skin, which is ideal as summer approaches,” said our tester for color 8. Our volunteer for hue 1 said, “I found it perfect for the mornings or afternoons where you’re in and out running errands and need decent all-day cover. Plus it smells nice, is super-lightweight, and has SPF.”

Also, users loved that you don’t need any special tools. “It’s easy to apply — no BeautyBlender needed! — and the finish is so natural. My skin looks (and feels) like my skin, just better and more even-toned,” said our tester for number 5.

In fact, according to our tester for 4, it’s perfect for stashing in your purse for touch-ups. “I put this on in the car and was amazed that there were no streaks. It was seamless.”

Are you ready to say buh-bye to cakey solutions and hello to Hello Happy?

As much as I love celebrity couples, I love celebrity sibling relationships even more. And Elle and Dakota Fanning are two sisters I've grown up watching since I first saw Dreamer in 2005. Considering Elle Fanning is only five months older than me, and I have a sister of my own, this is one relationship that feels particularly familiar. And while Elle has also watched Dakota Fanning act since we were kids, Dakota just revealed seeing Elle onscreen is just as special for her.

Here's why Dakota & Elle Fanning get emotional seeing each other onscreen.

Elle remembers "sobbing" during one particularly emotional Dakota Fanning movie.

“When Elle’s in anything, it makes me feel it deeper,” Dakota Fanning said at TheWrap’s Power Women Summit on December 3. “She never can fully disappear into a character totally for me as her sister. She obviously does an amazing job, but I’m always gonna see my little sister a little bit.”

And Elle is just as touched by Dakota's roles, and remembers "uncontrollably sobbing" after seeing Now Is Good, a movie where Dakota's character was dying of cancer. “Because it was my sister, I had a real traumatic reaction after that premiere and the screening,” Elle says. “Obviously the acting, but it was something felt on a deeper level.”

“I’m doing this job, I’m an actor because my sister started before me and I watched her,” Elle continues. “I wanted to do exactly what my big sister wanted to do.”

And their movies have also made an impact on everyone who watches them.

When Brit + Co caught up with Dakota Fanning at the world premiere of The Watchers, I had to ask about one of her most iconic movies: Uptown Girls. "I love it," she says of TikTok memes and edits giving the movie new life. "It's nostalgic for people who are kind of around my age, who grew up watching that movie, I think it's like a comfort movie for people. And so I love that people are still revisiting it and loving it. And maybe now that everyone's older [they're] understanding different things about it."

Dakota starred opposite Brittany Murphy, who also had roles in movies like Clueless, 8 Mile, and Girl, Interrupted. Brittany passed away in 2009 when Dakota was 15. "I loved Brittany so much and I still miss her," she says. "So anytime that she has, you know, a moment where people think about her is also nice."

You can see Elle Fanning in A Complete Unknown, in theaters December 25, and you can also stream Dakota Fanning's new show The Perfect Couple on Netflix now.
