We can find a cause for celebration nearly every day of the year. From congratulating our friends for being awesome on International Day of Friendship to cheers-ing popcorn bars on National Popcorn Day, we are all about giving credit where credit is due. Today we’re celebrating a delicious drink: the margarita. Both sweet and salty (and sometimes even spicy), these fruity drinks deserve their own day to shine! That’s why we were giddy when Triscuit teamed up with us to throw the ultimate Margarita Day party. We’ve got three margarita recipes to share and three Triscuit appetizers that pair with each drink. Taco fixings on top of Triscuit crackers are THE BEST. You heard it here first, people :) All it takes is three simple ingredients on top of a Triscuit for the perfect little bite.
Let’s talk about pairings.
First we’ve got a classic margarita that pairs perfectly with pork, cotija and pico de gallo. Then we’ll move on to a delicious mango raspberry margarita paired with a Triscuit covered in mango, red onion and a slice of serrano chile. And finally we’ll show you how to make a watermelon margarita that goes nicely with a Triscuit topped with ceviche, red onion and coconut. Let’s get to it.
How to Make a Classic Margarita
This classic margarita is exactly what you’d expect given its name.
Ingredients:
– 1 1/2 ounces tequila silver
– 1 ounce orange liqueur
– 1 ounce lime juice
– 1/4 teaspoon honey or agave
– lime wedge
– sea salt
Add ice to your shaker, then pour in all of the ingredients and give it a good shake. Rim your glass with sea salt by first wetting the rim with lime. Then dip it into a plate of sea salt. Pour your drink in the glass and top with a lime wedge.
Triscuit + Pork + Cotija Cheese + Pico de Gallo
Another flavor combo that stands the test of time, these toppings combined with the crunch and saltiness of the Triscuit are worthy of applause.
Either make or buy pork from your local taco shop. Same goes for the pico de gallo.
First break up your cotija. Then add a pinch of pork to the Triscuit, followed by a sprinkling of cotija. Top it off with pico de gallo salsa.
Yes please!
How to Make a Mango Raspberry Margarita
For those of you with a little sweet tooth (and a spicy tooth!), this margarita is for you.
Ingredients:
– 1 1/2 ounces tequila silver
– 1/2 ounce chambord
– 1 1/2 ounces mango juice
– mango chunks
– raspberries
– cayenne
– sugar
Fill your shaker with ice cubes and add all of the liquid ingredients. Mix sugar and cayenne on a plate and then rim your glass for a sweet and spicy kick. Pour your drink into the glass and add a few chunks of mango and berries.
Triscuit + Mango + Red Onion + Serrano
The toppings on this Triscuit are similar to mango salsa. Just beware of that spicy bite — it’s flavor-packed!
Grab your ingredients and get chopping!
Cut off a section of your mango, then slice it into a grid without breaking through the skin. Flip the section by pushing on the skin side until the grid pops and you have chunks of mango. Cut these off, then dice them if they are too big. Chop your red onion and add a few pieces on top of the mango. Then cut a very thin slice of serrano and add it on top.
Oh man(go)! These couldn’t be any more scrumptious. If you’re not a fan of the spice, not to worry. Triscuit crackers are made for more, so they are really the perfect base for the toppings of your choice. It’s totally up to you!
How to Make a Watermelon Margarita
Not too sweet yet not too sour, this margarita wins the refreshing award.
Ingredients:
– 1 1/2 ounces tequila silver
– 1 ounce grand marnier
– 1 1/2 ounces watermelon juice
– 1/2 ounce lime
– watermelon wedges
– sugar
Start out by making watermelon juice. This drink on its own is to die for! Just add watermelon chunks to a blender and give it a whirl.
Like the other two drinks, simply add ice to your shaker and then add the liquids. Shake it up and pour it into your sugar-rimmed glass. You could even add some jalapeño to this one if you want a little kick.
Triscuit + Ceviche + Red Onion + Coconut Flake
Ceviche is a refreshing and excellent Triscuit topping choice. Plus it’s so easy to make!
Ceviche isn’t just for tropical vacations ;)
Get some white fish like cod, snapper or tilapia. Simply chop it into pieces, place in a bowl and cover with lime juice and a pinch of salt. Add other items like onion and jalapeño if you want a kick. Let it sit for 30 minutes and you’ve got yourself ceviche. Add a few pieces to your Triscuit, then top with chopped red onion and a single coconut flake.
Watermelon and ceviche — doesn’t get much better than this!
Set up a party in bright fun colors like magenta, golden yellow, lime green, teal and purple. Mini cacti make for great decorations and double as party favors. And they are perfect for your pals who don’t have a green thumb.
Happy Margarita Day everyone!
