It’s no secret that we’re big fans of girl bosses over here at Brit + Co. That’s why we love Levo League‘s Power Suit series that gives us a glimpse at what some of the top female bosses, CEOs and leaders in their field wear to work. Last week we showed you the founder, CEO and creative director of The Style Line Rachel Schwartzmann’s go-to power outfit and now we’re coming at ya with some more professional styling — this time in the gourmet world. Keep checking back for more real-life 9-to-5 ensembles each week!
Name: Marian Cheng
Brief description of what you do in your role: I operate the restaurant on a day-to-day basis, manage a team of 10-15 employees, partner with vendors and purveyors, connect with customers and establish relationships, plan inventory, create recipes for our monthly specials, dream and plan for the future…always
What are you wearing?
Outfit: Burberry leather bomber jacket, shirt from a boutique in Soho in Hong Kong, black jeans from J Brand, Nike Dunk Sky Hi’s.
Jewelry: earrings from a boutique in Copenhagen, “BELIEVE” necklace from Sydney Evan (one of my best friends gave me this necklace right before my sister and I had our presentation meeting with the landlord of our restaurant space as a reminder that I don’t have to worry and to trust God), rose gold diamond band ring from Mark Awad Jewelry, rose gold dot ring from Fayt Jewelry.
Why does it make you feel powerful?
Leather is always a fierce/chic touch. I love having some sort of bold, but effortless fashion component to my outfit while feeling comfortable and not overdone, especially running around the restaurant all day. I like to mix fabrics and wear minimalist colors; black is my go-to and is a statement in itself. The understated jewelry rounds out my outfit with feminine touches, and they each have sentimental value to them. I like wearing the same jewelry every day.
Any advice for dressing when working in the food industry?
Wear clothes that are fitted, but not tight, on the dark color scheme, and you definitely need some comfortably padded shoes. I’m obsessed with the Nike Roshe sneakers right now because they make me feel like I’m bouncing on clouds.
